Michele ~ I have a Maytag convection oven and I use it almost exclusively. I really don't see using it as any different than using the "bake" feature. It might work better if you elevated the food you are cooking on a wire rack. I also have the Ninja Foodi Grill which has a air crisp feature. We love the way it air crisp some foods so they are crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. You have to watch the time and temp to make sure you don't burn up the items.
Carol in GA5 -
Michelle - The convection function turns on the fan and circulates the air in the oven, theoretically giving you a more even bake/cook. As Carol said, you have to adjust the time/temp for the convect cooking, typically you convect bake at a lower temp and often for less time. Like Carol - I almost exclusively use the convect function.

Well Ladies, we got a bit of a thunderstorm, but as is normal, we did not get a big storm like they predicted. We ended up with a bit of thunder, some pretty good lightning and about .85 inches of rain. We'll take it for sure!

Good morning ladies! Saturday!!
Michele - I have Delta Dental supplemental, it's $48 a month and I think it pays up to $1000 max per year. Includes 2 cleanings. and a % off fillings and such. Our dentist has his own plan which is actually a little better that I might switch to. I wouldn't be covered tho if I needed something done by another dentist/endodontist, whereas the insurance does.
Kelly - love those Joaquin and Miquel photos. Time flies, I remember when Joaquin arrived.
Kim - I need to start pawing through my seed catalogs. Still so chilly here. The plastic on our greenhouse door has deteriorated and will need to be replaced - a 10 minute job if I do it (heavy plastic and duct tape) and an hour job if DH does it (new wooden framing, adjusting the hinges.) I'm sure it will be ready when we need it.
Terri - thanks for sharing your flower arranging photos. I can see why this hobby can be good for your soul. I've managed to coax along a couple paper white bulbs who aren't very happy trying to thrive in our 60 degree kitchen these days. But they have teensy white fragrant flowers.
Heather - glad your DH saw the doc, what a relief for you both. I tried to reach through the screen of this laptop and help myself to a bowl of your pea soup. Hope the cleaner works out. I always look forward to the look and smell of a newly cleaned house, our gal is worth her weight in gold.
Pip - ouch! Good thing you are in great shape and can bounce back from these spills quickly. Make sure you don't hinder your boot applying technique. We depend on it.
Rebecca - love the photos of Athena and Aurora. So neat the way our 4 legged kids watch over the 2 legged ones.
Okie – LOL ! too am a toilet paper hoarder! I figure if the apocalypse comes we could trade a roll for a sack of beans, if nothing else. Seriously, it’s gotten so expensive (like everything) if I find it on sale I load up.
Kylia - drat those yeast infections!!! The worst. You mentioned you had migraines for 3 months - do you have any special cures/techniques for keeping them at bay? Just power through them the best you can? Are you taking triptans? They are so expensive now and insurance is getting picky from what I hear. They saved me for many years, at least I was able to muddle through the days. Meno made a world of difference for me.
Lisa - so happy to hear your doctor visit went well. I also have terrible white coat high BP. I take it at home and always bring my little notebook along to show the doc that it's generally OK for me.
I am so very happy to hear your IF is working, I'm learning people have all kinds of windows in which they don't eat. Please let us know about the ketosis.
More on IF here…There’s a lot of conflicting information out there, even by the experts. Some say a person needs a really long fast for ketosis to kick in, others say it kicks in after 10 or 12 hours, while yet another says it can take weeks for the “burner” to finally kick on. And we are probably all different in how our bodies respond.
I stop eating at 4 since the evenings are when the Twinkies and Butterfingers would jump off the pantry shelf and we'd party. I tell them wait until tomorrow (and strangely, they don't appeal to me when the eating window is open.) I'm doing what I can to "clean" fast - coffee or tea w/o milk or sweetener, nothing with calories or sweet flavorings like diet pop. There's some thought that this strategy helps control insulin release and induces the body to burn fat. Not sure if there’s science to back it up, but some fasters claim this is where the “magic happens.”
So I’m OK waiting to have milk in my coffee when my eating window opens. And dunking a biscotti in it. Delaying, not denying.
I also am not sure if I could do Mary's and Beth's 19:5 or if I even need to or want to, but it's fairly easy to not eat for 14 or 16 hours and I'm getting results with increased energy, maintaining control over sugar and junk food quite easily, paying more attention to nutrition and exercise after a year of sadly abandoning it - so I'm good with that. I’ve read that IF is a “health program with a side effect of weight loss.”
Interesting to read that while some gals who do the IF eating don’t lose a lot of pounds on the scale, they still lose many inches in addition to being able to reduce or eliminate meds they’ve been on for years. Just by skipping dinner or breakfast.
OK, time to scoot. Make it a fabulous weekend!

Definitely need the boot 🥾 I’m struggling to get back where I was before Daughter visit. Sore from removing tree. Tried to walk some then Hubby came home I’m cooking a lot for him. He’s off track too! I need to get my walking routine where it was. Eating I’m close to goal or if go over it’s not anything bad since my foods getting back to normal. Christmas is all down some still on garage to put away. Just motivation going down when I want it up. No rubber band exercise today hurt back moving tree with hubby . Need to walk enough.
Drank Water with 2 toast light mayo 4oz steak 🥩 in between with tons of lettuce y spinach leaves 3 servings with it. Hubby grocery shopped this morning. Tonight steak 4oz in lettuce y spinach with Walden 0cal dressing.

@pipcd34
I don't know the expression, "get the boot out" What does that mean? I looked on line and it says "to leave" You mean you think I should leave the thread?
I'm so sorry, PLEASE don't leave.. backstory - I would guess I'm one of the more hardcore workout people here in the group. I workout usually 7days a week, ride my bike 52wks a year. the term the "boot" came up when someone in here was not working out, or eating too much, or I don't remember, so I was being the "drill sergeant" and virtually kicking their butt to get them into gear, so hence "the boot"6 -
Pip: I hope you heal well and quickly from your ‘‘war wound.” :flowerforyou:
(((Kylia))): I hope that today is better than yesterday.
Heather: We have housecleaners every other week. We are at home when they are here doing their work. Our favorite house cleaner was wonderful and she had her own house key. She retired from cleaning and we took the key back. We haven’t had the level of trust to give anyone else a key so far.
Okie: We always have a good supply of TP on hand as well. Each bathroom is well stocked.
Lanette: Have you tried stevia as sweetener for your coffee? I’ve been using it for ages. I like stevia clear best and buy at Fred Meyers. It sweetens but doesn’t taste the same as sugar. No calories. There are no artificial sweeteners in the Stevia, either. It comes in a liquid dropper bottle or paper packets for individual servings. It is great for coffee or tea, but I wouldn't use it to replace sugar in baking. :noway:
Amber: We have loads of Christmas boxes that are in the garage and need to be moved to the attic.
We’ve had lots of rain and the river is deeper than it has been in months. Since we at a low altitude, we’ve had no snow at all so far this year. There has only been a day or two when there was frost on the lawn.

just woke up, I think I need help getting the boot on....:0/
gonna take the day off of working out... WHAT???? ME NO WORKOUT?????? gotta do some stuff round the house

Lanette - the cleaner seemed nice and her English wasn't too bad. She works every day and does long hours! I asked her if it was too much, but she said it's what she came over here to do. Must keep her fit! I tried out the new vacuum cleaner and it seems fine.
She's going to do an initial deep clean next Friday morning for three hours and then every other Saturday for two hours. Hope it works out. We have a lot of staying visitors and I like the house to be spotless when they come. I use the guest bathroom, and sometimes one of the beds, so that always needs refreshing. And, as you know, I like to put on a good food show! Don't want to resent my guests for putting me through a lot of work. Our next overnight guests are for Burns Night.
DH has ordered another single malt whisky. We already have three and our guests are bringing one. Lots of choice!
AF today for me. AF red wine. I have just made some pesto from scratch with my windowsill basil and will be using the leftover ham from the soup. Olives, scallions, sundried tomatoes. Tagliatelli. Green beans for a veg. Parmesan.
I made enough pesto to freeze a batch.
Making yoghurt tonight.
It's my Norwegian detective series tonight. :-)

Machka - I was going to comment on the Hoka shoe photo you posted a couple days ago. I have those exact ones, same color and everything. Wasn't too tickled with them to begin with as I was looking for something more waterproof, but I've sprayed them with the waterproofing spray which does an OK job as long as it's not raining and I don't splash through puddles. Wet pavement, no problem. The orthotics fit fine in them. Yes, quite expensive over here as well so hope these hold up for a long time.
Katla - I never use sweetener in my coffee or tea, just milk in the coffee sometimes. The "clean fasters" will say to avoid anything sweet tasting while in the "fasting" window, even the no or low cal sweeteners like stevia. They claim it's the taste, not calorie content that triggers insulin response. And it's OK to use sugar during the eating window since this isn't necessarily calorie counting unless a person wants it to be. But not necessary. I'm not calorie counting, other than to track macros as a point of interest, and haven't "counted calories" in a long time.
Snow should be arriving here on Monday, maybe not a lot but cold nights into the 20's so slick, slick roads. I plan on staying home all week Don't want to pull a Pip!

Did a bodyflow (yoga) DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to go on the recumbent bike
Made yogurt in the IP last night, then drained it overnight. Now have applesauce in the IP. Plan to make soup later and make a cake for Vince Update: it wound up being brownies because that’s the mix I took out of the pantry.
Bananas – NO, we absolutely don’t want you to go! “Get the boot out” is an expression we use here. See, if someone is above calories consistently or doesn’t exercise, then pip sends a virtual “kick in the pants” to get them back in shape. It’s really more of a joke.
I know I made a goal of doing yoga at least once/week. I would like to add that it’ll be yoga or pilates. Both work on balance and flexibility, which I certainly can use
NYKaren – I always used to tell the kids “the only stupid question is the question that isn’t asked."
Heather – Many times you get what you pay for

Lanette: My weather app predicts a 65% possibility of snow on Wednesday. I won't hold my breath waiting for it. It has been a long time since we've seen snow on the ground. Our food supply is likely just fine as is, although I'll double check my coffee supply.

Lynette - what is the percentage of what the dental insurance will pay?
Michele NC1 -
Katla, im thinking of you as our next round of weather approaches. I just hop my flight to San Jose Tuesday gets off the ground and there ok. Are you expecting super-cold temperatures? We are up here in the foothills. Highs only in the 20s for a few days. Should be better by the time I get back!
Barbara AHMOD, there are times when diplomatic communication skills REALLY get our point across better. Some call it caving”, I call it keeping a partnership working. Bravo for the “Good idea”!
Lily, i too hope to go to Spain and Portugal, but right now I’m looking forward to Mexico in May.
I have a long layover in Mexico City both going down and coming back. I don’t know if it’s unwise to leave the terminal during that time or not. Whatever I do will need to be pretty close.
Oh dear, Amber! having a large child can be very challenging. Now that DGS is 7, life is much easier for everyone concerned. He’s now the size of some 4th graders, and is also VERY fast. If he decides to “elope” my daughter does the best she can, but a neighbor or stranger sometimes saves the day. He’s understanding agreements MUCH better, so progress, not perfection.
Carol in Ga, it’s little steps at a time. Driving to another part of the state, visiting towns in the foothills. Taking a trip to some part of the USA that’s unfamiliar but you’ve wanted to see. I was helped by having grandparents who doted on me and from about age 8 would have me visit them to travel a bit over the summer. After grandpa retired it became “travel a lot”! He’d always traveled for business and grandma often couldn’t join him, so they would travel off and on all year. My mother lived to take us on day trips in the car to visit scenic destinations in Ohio - well, more scenic than Columbus, lol! Do what you feel comfortable with. Take an Amtrak trip somewhere. Or a tour someplace nearby. Trips don’t have to be thousands of miles to be fun.
Sue in WA, it sounds from your weather statement like you must be close to me. I’m in Issaquah, where the creeks are having a field day!
Tata for now!

Michele NC - I have the Aetna Vital Savings dental plan. It’s basically $75/year and for dentists in the network, I get really good rates. I think they are better than insurance because the dental office doesn’t have to deal with the insurance companies. It’s not insurance, it’s basically a year long coupon.
Okie and Carol - I also have convection on my oven that I haven’t used. Basically that is just because I don’t know how. So, thanks for those tips. I’ll give it a try.
Just bought new running shoes. Of course no brick and mortar has the ones I want in stock. So, I ordered them. Should be here Tuesday.

Well I had a faboo time today....
went withmy friend Carin and her hubby Ray , and our friends Jim and Gail were getting there rescue dog today, so Carin and I helped give the medical forms to the adopters and they as they were getting there dogs...oh such cutie pies, and after they were all gone we walked a few of the other ones that were going to the next stop..
we were kind of mad at the rescue groups who sweep in and get there medical charts and push people out of the way to get there dogs.. some of these people should have there moment with getting there pup and getting picture taken before the vultures flow in..
after that we went to lunch and I came home.. I paid my credit card bills and sent my money to the government , ever quarter because I collect alimony.. oh well. that is done..having some maple ginger tea, and will try and start organizing my stuff for the trip3 -
Have a question for all crocheters:
I'm not sure how to do this. The previous row was ch1, skip next st, dc in next st, all the way across. Now for the next row.
It says to dec over next ch 1 space, dc and ch1 space.
How do you do that? Is it YO, pull up loop in next ch 1 space (so there are 3 loops on hook), then pull up loop in dc (so there are 4 loops on the hook), then pull up loop in ch1 space (so there are 5 loops on the hook),
Then what? do you pull a loop thru 2 loops and then thru the remaining 3? That for some reason doesn't seem right but then again, that would make it at the same height.

Lanette - I like the $75 annually, but what happens if you need to go to a dentist and there isn't one in network near where you are? You have to pay the full amount I assume. Do they reimburse you a percentage?

I think it's Tina with the $75 annual premium. Yes, I would like to hear more about that. There is also a "discount" dentist in our town that Teamsters referred people to, never any co-pays. Since I retired, that's no longer an option for me.
Re my Delta Dental plan, just about every dentist in the state takes it.1 -

Lanette: I’ve been using liquid stevia in my coffee for a long time. I do not use any form of stevia in food preparation. If a recipe calls for sugar, I use sugar. Baking sweet treats is rare for me, but we splurge once in a while. :flowerforyou:
Sharon near Seattle: Our winter has been very mild so far. We haven’t had any snow, nor a hard frost. There was a light frost once last fall. I tucked a miniature rosebush and fuchsias under my rhododendrons for protection. The rose bush has new blossoms on it.
Michele: I’ve been able to knit and crochet for many years, but I couldn’t tell anyone how I do it. Is there a yarn shop or knitting shop near you? There are some great tutorials on the net, Here is one:

I’ve been watching weather news on TV and am glad to be in my damp and rainy state, and out of the way of fierce storms. Rain is one thing, accompanied by high winds it is really scary and tends to cause a lot of damage. Sending good thoughts to anyone in danger's way.

I love my parents but hate their cell phones. Mom got a new phone and turned off service to Dad's old phone. We tried to switch mom's old SIM card into Dad's old phone, but it didn't work so he put it back. They ignore little suggestions like turn it off before you take it apart. Now only Mom's brand new phone works. And they seem to think I can magically fix this! My dad didn't have the attention span to track the swap, but he wanted to quit and make pizza in the middle of things. My mom pried her phone cover apart. I gave them an easy book on cell phones but nobody read it.
So frustrating! You caretakers are saints!6 -

Lol Annie- Yeah same here I taught Dad computers to IPad (Daughter helped too). We taught him tracphone to answering machines. Not easy. Easiest solution New phone for your Dad too. If turning it off placing card in back on doesn’t work that’s your last hope.
Hubby announced he ordered pizza, chicken wings,y more . Hate it because my calories are spent of course I’d love a piece too or half a piece even. Got 100cal left might have enough for 1/3rd slice but is it even worth it. Might eat a fudge Sugarfree pop instead. Whatever I do can’t eat 1 full slice. Maybe tomorrow a full slice but not tonight.
Sore back y legs from exercise y yesterday. Got 1 Tupperware in garage almost full. My cell phone not allowing me to get pictures from JRs birthday to Christmas!! No I’m the only one with them! Thinking email them get put on flash drive.

I have a pair of the Hoka road running shoes which I really like so the trail shoes seem a natural choice if I want to start running more trails. I hadn't thought about waterproofness, but then the trails around here are sandy so if it rains, it soaks right in and if it puddles that's been enough rain I'm not out running!
I just have to decide how much I want to run trails to justify the shoes!
