He doesn’t know his stock. Home Depot carries the bemis brand that has all metal hardware. Multiple models. A little pricey. 45-60 dollars I saw.

Bwcetc- Ty took a screenshot of the name brand. When I worked there it was a different era they had stuff they do y don’t carry now so hard to keep up.Guess he didn’t know either it’s online only or in the store but he doesn’t normally work for that department probably.
Michele- Darn was getting ready to make the applesauce. Did find a few things I can make with them tho.
Feel so full but had calories left over. Decided on a salad y egg cheese on toast for dinner with protein shake y unsweetened Apple pie filling . Yummy!

Today a clerk with an attitude at the Social Security office "found" a form I sent her 6 weeks ago. I have been pulling my hair out because it needed to be taken care of by Dec 31. I had sent 2 forms without response. When she came back with the "found" form, I sat there with my mouth open, because she had just finished telling me that since I hadn't sent them the form in a timely fashion, I was going to have to live with the (costly) consequences. I started making a fuss, so she saunters over for a conversation with her supervisor, who eventually pulled my form out of one of numerous tall filing cabinets full of unprocessed mail! I asked her how this could be & she said they were "too busy taking care of customers to process the mail". To make it worse, I had mailed the form to her in a postage-paid addressed official government envelope she had given me at a previous visit, & never mentioned that it they don't actually process the mail & it would be better to come back in person. You can't make this stuff up. She was not too happy when I insisted that she give me a copy of the form with the dated stamp showing that they did get my form on time. Geez.

Thanks for that heads up I need to send forms to social security and I will send it certified mail to make sure I have proof of it being sent in on time.1 -

Hi Gals,
I’m a bit behind,
Beth – I would offer all those flours to the gluten free friend.
Rebecca – I agree with the other ladies to consider it a challenge to make out enough to respond.
Amber – I have noticed that there are a number of items that you eat that have the “fake sugar” sweetner, I find if I do any of the fake sugars I crave sweets more, so I have stopped having them – Do you have any problems with them?
Heather-Machka - I did have teen diaries, and at first wrote some feelings until I discovered that my mother regularly read them, and then what I had written about would come up in discussion over dinner, in a mocking way. My Diaries quickly became lists of things to do or completed. What I do have that I have not looked at are college age journals…
Kylia – I buy plain low fat yogurt, and sweeten it with fresh (or fresh frozen) fruit, I often heat the fruit a bit first to have it break down and mix in easier. Depending on the type of fruit I may add cinnamon. The brand I buy is Mountain High, I would love to afford a non-gmo or organic, but the budget is tight in the beginning of the year.

"Todo"s and "done"Done Wednesday: labs, annual tests, reconcile checking account/credit card invoice, started packing
Bonus: ‘nother two loads laundry,
ToDo: Thursday drive to Eugene, Dermatologist, BottleDrop, Walmart or Winco. Friday Winco or WalMart, Trader Joe’s, drive home. Saturday dog group, start over 10 mins daily cleaning with Office, MBd, GuestBd, board mtg minutes. Sunday church, invest 10 mins cleaning Kitchen/Laundry, veg prep, bake bran muffins, call Carolyn. Monday: call about turnout drying racks, invest 10 mins cleaning MBth.
Skipped BB&B, indulged in breakfast out instead between labs and 90 minutes of annual tests. Rant.4 vials of blood ?!? sensors chest and belly for breathing, immune system?, EKG, balance, neuropathy, cognitive, and a real nasty one that measured heart rate, blood oxygen and blood pressure. Why nasty? Those confounded automatic blood pressure cuffs hurt. I HATE ‘em. As result my bp skyrocketed up to 190, where its usually 120-130 when a nurse takes it manually. I’m surprised I finished the test and didn’t rip the doggoned thing off and stamp it to pieces. Pfaugh!Skipped dog group too, but took Shadow for a ride to do recycling and gas up before tomorrow’s trip.
NYKaren and Samand had to check my order history but yup, the one that’s flaking out now is a lightning cable, bought last April. Reading reviews of this and others, including the “Apple” connector and ~5 to 8 % of the reviews say it stopped working after 2 months or less, so guess it’s just the nature of the beast. Might see if there’s a convenient Apple Store in Eugene to see if they can do better.
NYKaren Hoping the right neurologist is quickly found and available.
Pip if we tried that with any of our dogs, there’d be tooth marks on that remote!
Lanette, yep that is coach Ken. I’ll miss class Friday, but will chat him up Monday about Part 3
Rebecca that pic of Athena Rose in the shower should win a prize somewhere.
Rita and Amber sorry to hear it. Sending virtual ginger ale.
Michelle love the purple nose on the blue bear, just right for PJ.
Machka love that dream house, big fan of old millwork and that looked to be in beautiful condition.
Kim (and Heather) you both inspire me to get off the honey wagon and really try sweetening my yoghurt with warmed up fruit instead… someday…
House envy: I absolutely love our setting in the woods above the sea with no near neighbors, but do NOT like our house at all. Reluctant to invite anyone over. Ashamed of how I’ve let it go, just because I don’t like the style (‘80s doublewide). Decided I might like it better if I gave it some attention, hence this year’s 10 mins daily cleaning strategy. It might be working, we’ll see …
Will be away for two days, will try to read from my phone, IF my charging cable holds up... (grump).

Regarding diaries: My diaries wouldn’t shock my adult self at all. I didn’t lead a very adventurous life until DH and I found sailing after we married. I didn’t write about it as a diary. We kept ships logs, telling things like location, wind conditions, fuel, shopping stops and marinas. We have them all. We spent time plotting our course to one place one day, and another the next. I would go back to that lifestyle in a heart-beat, but DH is no longer healthy enough to do it.
(((Heather))): Absorbing your diaries is likely very challenging. You are brave to open a door to the past. I hope reading them results in healing.
Machka: Enjoy your rain. I hope it washes any & all smoke out of the air.
(((Rita))): Feel better, soon. :flowerforyou:
Rebecca: I love the photo of Athena with her daddy.
I went to yoga today and enjoyed the class. One of my friends that I hadn’t seen in months was there. It was good to see her. I hope she comes regularly. Later in the day some very long-term friends came by. I had offered to give them sourdough starter because their own had gone bad and was thrown away. We had a lovely visit and they went home with fresh and healthy sourdough.

Morning, afternoon and evening all,
Karen in VA - Good on you for keeping your temper with your oblivious social security clerk. Those are the encounters where I end up feeling my entire body vibrating with rage, and end up walking away before I do something stupid. Not fond of officious officials.
Up far too early, but there were nightmares anyway, formless grey things, best to stay up rather than keep waking up to that... Unusual, as my sleeping has gotten quite a bit better in recent months, which pleases me no end. About a third of the time now, I sleep at least 7 hours... and regularly more than six. These five-hour or fewer nights are averaging less than once a month now, which is the best my sleep habits have been in years.
Had a message waiting for me this morning from my daughter, who was probably up feeding young Levi at midnight last night. When we went up to meet our newest grandson, I took my daughter three cooking spoons I still have of my mother's. I've hauled those things thousands of miles with me, quite literally, but seldom use them. They are midcentury, Norwegian, with stainless steel bowls and tangs, and wooden handles. Little intrinsic worth, but lots of emotional connection for me.
My daughter collects older kitchen utensils (like 1920s-30s era), and usually has a display of them up, but hasn't gotten it up on the wall yet (they only moved to Kansas a few months ago) so I knew she would like them, but they're not really in her favorite era. She plans to put the three I brought her in a shadow box with my mother's pic. She never got a chance to meet my mother, who died 20 years ago now, and of course, I've only been married to Kelsey's dad for 10. Love that girl, and was lucky to get her and her brother along with her dad.
The spring grant cycle is in full swing - more than a dozen to write between now and the end of February, and a few mid-cycle reports for the July grant set. There are many applications that are repeats of last year, with just numbers updated, not nearly as hard as it sounds. A few more rejections have come in, which is never fun, but is part of the game. Off to the races, kids.
Love y'all,

Stayed home today to write a paper ... it's coming along, I think. I'm feeling pretty good about the first section. I haven't said exactly what I want to say in the second section yet, but maybe in the next couple hours. I've got to write an abstract. All the years of writing papers and this will be my first abstract. And I'm battling word limits. But it's only 9:30 pm and the night is young.
Update: Abstract done. In the computer coding world, there is no sense recreating the wheel. Therefore code is frequently and abundantly copied and modified. So I decided to adopt the same approach with the abstract. I found one I liked, copied it, and changed the words to fit my paper. Not plagiarism because I changed the words ... I just kept the format.

Another morning ahead of reading my diaries.
Had to struggle through my exercises this morning. My body was heavy. Last night must have been more tiring than I thought. The lecture was around 90 minutes and we got there early.
Did my poo stick this morning for bowel cancer screening. They've changed it, for the better. You used to have to do three paper sticks on three days, but now it's only one little plastic wand on one day. Easier than a colonoscopy anyway!
Barbara - your exam seems a lot more thorough than ours. DH is going to have his first ever one next month. Men! His back is still causing him problems. Night pain and uncomfortable in the day.Last night he took a long lasting pain killer and did sleep better. Do they give you results, or do you just have to assume no news is good news like we do?
Must finish my weights.

Good Thursday,
Dream homes- Growing up I always liked the black/white more contemporary style. I am really not sure anymore. I love my current home. It is a ranch decorated comfortably. I guess it is eclectic. Very woody. My sister says it is welcoming. My daughter's mil, who was here for bridal shower 15 years ago, says there are too many dead animals for her comfort. (Have added to those too) We live on small acreage with beautiful views. Unlike my MIL, I don't know if I would stay if something happened to my husband. Her house is larger than ours (same property). It just seems like a lot of space and cleaning! Hopefully I won't have to make that decision for many years. In the meantime, I make small changes every year to try to freshen. Flooring is the next purchase. (After Sara passes) The country blue carpet is from the late 80's and needs replaced.
Thank you for yogurt ideas. I am on my second 10 days of nystatin. Still watching what I eat. May see about allergy testing.
I bought 2 new cookbooks. Really?!? One is Instant pot. One is the yeast connection. They both have lots of information. I need to get excited about good food and need quick, easy, and nutritious. We tend to eat breakfast for dinner at least 3 nights a week. It is fast and easy.
Fake sweeteners- I know lots of people use it, but my body doesn't like it. That and peanut m&m drop my blood sugar so fast that my loving husband says he thinks my head spins. I get angry, shaky, and starving. It took me a few times to figure that out. I love local honey. Really sweet with lots of healing factors.
I have class again today. Ugh! Only two more after this. Will have to watch lunch choices and keep drinking water.
Have a great day!
😍

Hello lovely ladies.
I have been keeping up but have not had the time/energy to reply to everyone's days. It's another h-ll week at work and I simply cannot fathom getting on a computer when I get home. It was so challenging yesterday that I had to simply tell everyone this will have to wait until tomorrow. Which, as we all know, is very difficult for most of us of the nurturing sex.
I really try not to allow that green-eyed monster to come out when I visit people's homes and/or see all of the "stuff" they have and am typically happy for others. Not everything is what it seems. Many times those that are living larger than life lives are besotted with a lot of debt and many times unhappiness. They are reaching for bigger and better while not realizing happiness is found within not without. One particular work friend was constantly shopping, redecorating, etc. She and her husband would have the largest of parties with all of the food and drink one could possibly stand. Laughs and kisses all around. It was shocking when they let everyone know they were filing for divorce. Lo and behold the shopping and remodeling covered up the fact they were extremely unhappy for years, were ignoring the situation and covering it up with fantastic vacations and things, and over the tops of their heads in debt. We really never know what goes on behind closed doors. So I am happy for those that have more and count my blessings of what I have because things could be so much worse.
Since Charlie's passing I have been working diligently to see how much space I actually need to be happy. I have literally tracked the areas I spend the most time in and the space that I use. I know I would not be entirely happy in a "tiny home" which was something I was really interested in a few years back. I now know a small, one-bedroom cottage will be just perfect as long as I have a small garage or outbuilding as a craft space. I also know that I want a small plot of land so I can garden. I really do not want to spend a lot of time, energy, or money cleaning and maintaining a larger home. I would much rather use those funds to be able to pick up and go whenever I want. I want experiences not things.
I have finally fully recovered from the gleaning. Since we were picking peppers I was doing a lot of crab walking as the professionals pick from the top and the gleaners really have to search out the vegetables. I have signed up for another session on February 8th. It's the first weekend my schedule will allow it. A kindred work friend expressed an interest in coming with me so it will be a nice to get out in nature and see if we can develop a friendship out of the work environment. She is highly spiritual, a self-taught and now certified yogi, and we both share similar views.
I wish I had more time to catch up, but work is calling. Prayers to those in need and hugs all around.
SuziQ - SFL
PS: We were really hit with a cold front yesterday. I awakened to temperatures of 42 degrees with a "feels like" temperature of 34. We do not get snow and ice warnings here in South Florida. The National Weather Service sent out an unofficial "Falling Iguana Warning" the evening the front moved through and told us to stay away from trees. This is true - I cannot make this stuff up. Iguanas sleep in trees and go in to hibernation when the temperatures get below a certain point. They lose their grip on the trees and fall out of them. Since they can weigh almost 20 pounds they can knock you out. Here is a snapshot of the warning.

Margaret Certified Mail is best, I think, if you have a pretty good idea of when the item will be delivered. A Certificate of Mailing would be another alternative. The main problem with Certified Mail is that if the item is delivered on a day when there is no one to sign for it (a Saturday for example), the item is returned to the post office to be picked up by the recipient. It can take up to 21 days for your Certified Letter to be picked up from the Post Office. A Certificate of Mailing doesn't prove that your item arrived at the SS office, but it does prove when you mailed it. I mail from the same post office that serves the SS office, another little trick that increases the likelihood of a timely delivery.
Lisa Sorry about those formless grey things. Ugh.
I didn't really hold onto my temper at the SS office, but I didn't blow it so badly that I had to cry or leave. I started off pleasantly enough, but devolved into fuming & scowling, and at one point I raised my voice slightly. I'm sure my tone of voice and scowl conveyed my skepticism and displeasure. First she blamed me, then the Post Office, then said I sent it too late, then was silent & avoided eye contact when her supervisor produced my form from December 12th. The file cabinet was groaning with brown envelopes.

Greetings to all,
I've made it 23 days into 2020...my Birthday! For which I am truly grateful. This health journey has been interesting to say the least, but the good news is my weight is down and I am feeling pretty darn good for a 61 yr old.

Thanks you! I plan to make a copy of all the forms, get a tracking number (I can see when it arrives) and the Certificate of Mailing.
This is for our son who is not in a place where he can fill out these forms. If there is a problem he will have a copy and proof things were done on time.
This is timely as I am finishing up the forms now. There is a box to check for a relative to fill out the form, so I know this is legal.

For years I lived in a decent 2-bedroom apartment in a fairly quiet building. That was actually perfect for me, living on my own.
I'm not much of a gardener, but I had a balcony and grew a few things out there.
My second bedroom was my storage and bicycle room.
My dining room became my library and exercise room.
My living room was my office/project room with a sofa if I wanted to lie down and watch TV.
It just worked for me.
Like you, I would much rather use those funds to be able to pick up and go whenever I want. I want experiences not things.
Oddly enough, they don't have much in the way of apartment buildings like that here. There are a few that look like they were built in about 1960 and haven't been updated since, but they are full of students. And there are a couple in the middle of the city which are a bit more modern but they are very expensive. When it looked like my husband might have to go into permanent care, I looked around for a decent reasonably priced 2-bedroom apartment, but couldn't find one.

Been for my 5k. A grey, overcast day, but not too freezing. The council have been clearing the pebbles with JCBs so it was a lot easier to run.
On the way out I posted my poo and on the way home I picked up a large, wholemeal seeded sourdough loaf and some tomatoes.
We are having lentils and chorizo tonight. With zucchini.
