Lisa: So sorry you had nightmares. I hope that was the last of them for a very LONG time.
Machka: I’m happy you found a template to help you organize your abstract. WTG!!! :flowerforyou:
Heather: We've had poo tests several times. Last go around the doctor wanted DH to have a colonoscopy. That was a few months ago. We had a conference with the surgeon’s staff and the results went to our primary care doctor. Nothing was worrisome.
Karen in VA: Thank goodness for the supervisor at the SS office. The worker you started with was not up to snuff. I hope she was either retrained, lectured, or both. :grumble:
Allie: I’m sorry about your dead battery. :ohwell:
Yesterday we had a visit from a very longtime friend so that he and his wife could get some fresh sourdough starter from us. Michael talked and talked about people we don’t know, fishing expeditions with people we don’t know, and so forth. His wife is a saint! I hope they take good care of this batch of sourdough so that they can enjoy it for years to come. If not, I’ll have more to share. I'm even willing to put up with his reminiscence of things we're not part of once in a long while.

Did Jari Love’s Get Ripped and Slim DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to take the water class.
Amber – the applesauce might be worth it if you got a real good deal on apples or like it from a certain apple. Now the yogurt is definitely worth it.
Kim – what I do is freeze fruit and add it to the yogurt. Then, when it defrosts, it makes a sort of “juice” from the ice in the fruit.
Went to the Green Room today. We were pretty busy, especially early in the day. I bet they’ll be busy tomorrow since that’s the first day of tickets for the general public. Today it was just for Season Ticket holders
Fake sweeteners – I’m of the mindset “give me the real stuff or give me nothing”. This is just me but I don’t like putting something in my body that was made in a lab. I even avoid fat-free things. They many times need to up the sugar in order to make it palatable. But we’re all different
SuziQ – that’s interesting about the iguanas. I’d never heard that.
Brenda VA – happy birthday
I’m starting to get ready for FL. Made brownies to take and chocolate bran muffins. Going to make chocolate chip cookies to take. I may take the recipe for the brownies with me, not sure about that.
Working on this crochet Christmas tree skirt. I think my count is off, but it's so far down and I've ripped it out so many times that I'll probably just "fudge" it.

Katla - Michael reminds me of my 'difficult friend'. She goes on and on about people we have never met and have no interest in. Glad you had something wonderful to give them which made it worthwhile.
Our lentil and chorizo dinner was fabulous.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx4 -
What I am making today.👍
These are not mine, but samples of others the art shop sells. Mine needs to match this art that is on the wall where the light switch is.
Laters ladies!💖

Rebecca ~ The light switch art looks like fun!
Amber ~ Maybe you could slice the apples and dehydrate them in the oven. I love dried apple slices and they will keep well in the freezer (I think).
Missing my favorite soap (General Hospital) because to the Impeachment trials. Ugh!

Today is National Pie Day!
(Not to be confused with pi day, which happens on March 14!)
"National Pie Day is a 'day to maintain America's pie heritage, pass on the tradition of pie making and promote America's love affair with pie.' It is a day to bake and eat pies, try new recipes, and give pies to others. Charlie Papazian, who later went on to found the Great American Beer Festival, started the day in 1975 in his classroom, while teaching in Boulder, Colorado. He chose his birthday, January 23, as the day of celebration."
Barbara - I got a chuckle out of "there are days when we have two 'B' sides." Between the beach and packing up the garage I missed a couple of strength training workouts and I felt like one big B side at the gym yesterday.
Katla - Glad you are having fun with the sourdough. A lot of people don't realize you can make your own starters. Important for me, because I'm not good at maintaining care and feeding of such things. (During the Amish Friendship Bread fad I practically ran and hid from my friends to keep from being gifted a starter!)
Rebecca - Oh, a bowl of warm tapioca sounds like an absolutely divine dinner. One of the rewards of being a grown-up is letting yourself indulge like that now and then!
Machka - That is a beautiful house. Love the porch, and the the woodwork.
SuziQ - All the news stories about falling iguanas are pretty entertaining! This morning someone on my Facebook feed had a big rat snake fall out of a tree in their yard due to the cold. Poor reptiles!
We had a lovely time at the beach last weekend. Seems like I do better if I get my toes in the surf now and then. There was a minor kerfluffle when we went to fill up the clean water tanks and discovered the drain plug had vibrated off somewhere along the way, but we bought a couple of gallons of water at the grocery store to get us by overnight until we could find a replacement plug and fill up. One important lesson about RV camping is that it's good to be easygoing.
This week is all about finishing with garage packing. I'm not sure how long it'll take to get the permits so demolition and construction can start, but I expect it to be pretty soon. We're getting close... hopefully by the end of this weekend it'll be empty. We're getting a lot of exercise hauling boxes!
I never met a pie I didn't like so maybe I'll do something pie-related for dinner.
-Yvonne in TX4 -
Pie Day!!! my favorite dessert. But I was reading? listening to a pod cast? and the talk was of a small girl who thought the saying "Pie in the sky" meant that angels were pies. (gotta love kid logic) so when a family member died the child asked what kind of pie the family member would be.
So - that's the weird conversation for today - When/If you become an angel what type of pie do you want to be?
Personally I better be one with a top crust, cause I'm not sure I'd be good at flying and falling Iguana is weird but falling pie filling would be unexplainable.

Sorry in advance for the novel. Synopsis of the below – life has kind of slapped us in the face the last couple of weeks and stress is taking over. I know some people here are dealing with much more than me so feel free to skip.
So what’s that phrase – “The best laid plans…” Kinda how the year has started off. Not sure if anyone here will remember me, but I was around for a while last spring. Things kind of went off the rails for a while after that but by the end of the year, life was getting better, more settled (except for the holidays). Everything seemed to be going well. We made some big goals for 2020 – paying off our debts, planning a trip for our 30th wedding anniversary in April, I was starting to think about retirement (still at least 4 years off, but getting things in order for it), and then life happened. DH got a call on Jan 1st that his brother had been taken to the hospital early that morning with heart failure. Not a good start to the year. He’s only in his early 60’s but has known heart issues. They were finally able to get him off the ventilator this past weekend and he’s doing better but had to go back to the ICU on Tuesday because of BP issues. They live in Florida and his wife has not been overly forthcoming about his condition. DH’s other brother has been trying to get as much info as he can and keep the family updated but it’s frustrating not knowing what’s going on with him and DH is not someone who talks about his feelings so I know he’s having trouble with it but won’t talk about it.
On top of that, we had an unexpected 3.5” of snow on Jan 11th (was supposed to be a dusting) and our DD slid on her way home from her boyfriend’s house and wrecked her car. She’s fine, she slid into a median getting off the highway, but the car is undriveable with about $4000 worth of damage to the front driver’s side. And the insurance company won’t total the car – it’s a 2008 Chevy Aveo so not anywhere near worth $4000 – and will only pay for $1500 worth of repairs. So we’re not fixing the car, it will be donated to Goodwill or the Salvation Army, and we ended up buying a used car this past weekend. Actually, she’s buying the car. We helped with the down payment, but we’re trying to get her to be a more responsible adult – she’s 25 years old, still lives with us, long story there – and she makes enough money to make the payments as long as she watches her spending.
All this to say – the exercise and healthier eating has gone out the window and the weight that I was starting to lose has come back. I’ve started keeping a journal/planner to track my workouts, my meals, my hydration, my sleep, and the amount of TV I watch. That last one is a biggie for me – once I sit my butt down after dinner and turn on the TV, I don’t get back up. So keeping the TV off is more conducive to me getting my workouts done.
Well this got much longer than expected. I’m hoping that coming here every day or so will help with motivation to get back to the workouts and the healthier meals. And I do feel a little better after writing all this out.

JanetO: So sorry that you are having a rough time. You will find many sympathetic souls here.
Rebecca: WOW! those light switch covers? Absolutely beautiful.KetoneKaren wrote: »Terri Playreadind sounds like a blast!
It really is. We ham it up something shocking. 😂
I would want to be lemon meringue pie! 😂

Michele: Regarding “fake” sweeteners. I agree with you. We use stevia, which is plant based and not engineered in a chemistry lab. Stevia is not as sweet as sugar, but it does fine in my coffee. I don’t use it in food. If I’m baking I use real sugar.
Heather: You’ve made an excellent observation regarding Michael. He also goes on and on. This time it was about fishing. I think his wife is a saint.
Rebecca: The light switches are beautiful. :flowerforyou:
Yvonne: I have never tried to create my own sourdough starter. I was given this starter by a friend in about 1970, and I have kept it alive all this time, despite having to scrape mold off of the top a time or two. It is still alive and well. How do you create your own? I’d love to know.
Kim: No one ever gave me the idea that Angels were pies on pi day or any regular day. When I was a young child one of my aunties told my mom that I was an old soul. I heard it often enough that I accepted the idea. I was also told frequently that departed family members were angels looking after me. I wanted to become a Guardian Angel when It was my turn. The young child inside of me still hopes for that honor in the next life. :flowerforyou:
JanetO: So sorry for your stress. :flowerforyou:
IrishTerri: I wouldn’t want to be lemon meringue pie, but I wouldn’t mind eating a slice. Or two--- It has been years since my last taste of lemon meringue pie.
I’m evidently not on my A game today. I irritate DH every time I say or do anything. :ohwell: I may mention it to him. Or not. :ohwell:

Sad part is grocery stores now to food manufacturers almost all foods now have unnatural ingredients. Crayola company makes food dyes...yes it’s the same thing that’s in their markets, wax crayons 🖍,y your favorite foods even meats sometimes. Some places inject dyes to make meat look a better color. That bag of yellowing white chicken you said gross too at the market IS the natural color of chicken. What your buying next to it that you think looks freasher because the color has the right tint is probably injected with Crayola company dyes to pretty it up for you. Some grocery store Deli’s add it too at the grocery store. Your cereal 🥣 has unnatural ingredients to your breads anymore. Reading the labels before buying your cheese even you can cut down or all the artificial ingredients out. Can you fully have a Natural diet? Yes but that means you have a garden y farm so your creating your own everything then don’t add anything at all but what you grew,no pesticides,be careful what feed you buy almost all has hormones y stuff added now,y watch what shots you give to medicines to a sick animal or plant. The best rule of thumb is Dont stop eating y everything in moderation. Being prediabetic I got to watch sugars use alternatives more often . To even it out I make sure to try not to grab lab grown veggies in the produce section (yes their in there) ,cheeses that show natural ingredients as possible,y meats to eggs saying free range to organic.Trying to even out the can corn to box of cereal ingredients. I have a bag of sugar, box of sweetnlow, artificial sweetener products,y real sugar products... everything in moderation because all sugars can be bad even natural ones to artificial. Ask your Doctors will all get a different answer lol it’s based on their personal beliefs not facts usually. One study shows eggs bad for you another says good...jury out on all hypothesis based studies which is 100% of them. Reminds me of the saying the only fresh air any more is in a area far away where man has never touched only. Figure same goes for our foods too lol.
Amber Tx
Stevia- I’m allergic to alcohol y wines that’s a sugar alcohol because they use a sugar alcohol additives with it commonly plus is still considered bad for you compared to nothing at all of course. Ask one Doctor they’ll praise it another will not. Yes it has shown to effect makes reproductive areas in lab rats. Of course real sugar leads to diabetes in lab rats 🐀 so can’t win it all. I hear stevia easier on the stomach tho so those with stomach conditions but not alcohol allergies it’s a good one to try. https://www.runnersworld.com/nutrition-weight-loss/a27198164/what-is-stevia/1 -
Amber I agree you have to look carefully at what you are eating. I enjoyed reading Eating on the Wild Side that discusses the changes in the food supply. Interesting enough usally the more bitter the vegetable the better it is for us. There has been a movement to make veggies sweeter. The history of corn we eat today makes me almost want to stop eating corn. It is hard to give up fresh corn on the cob. If I find a vegetable is an heirloom variety it makes me want to try it.
I do not care for the after taste of Stevia. There is a Kombucha that uses it and I don't buy that brand.

Hi all: I got a call this morning and ended up teaching water exercise at the YM. I was going to the class anyway so just had to teach instead of participate. The regular teacher was not feeling well. One of the ladies in the class and I were talking afterward and she recently lost her DH too. We both like the symphony but don't like going alone so now we are going to the Everett Philharmonic together on February 9. I think it will be fun, an all Mozart program. I am really looking forward to it.
Brenda VA - Happy birthday!
Yvonne in TX - My hay guy keeps telling me how much he likes pie, any kind of pie so last time he delivered hay I gave him apple turnovers to take home. Not sure how many of them made it there. LOL He would definitely be in favor of pie day.
JanetO - Hugs.
Rebecca - I like those light switch covers. we need pictures of yours.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA

Rebecca – that switch art is gorgeous. I never thought of something like that!
Yvonnie – A RAT SNAKE!!!! Glad I wasn’t there….lol
Margaret – I never cared for the taste of stevia, either. I thought it tasted on the bitter side. That might have been because the only type I ever tried were the drops. Ahhh well…
Worked on that Christmas tree skirt some more. Going to give it a rest and watch some TV.

Margaret be careful with fresh corn in a store even almost all stores carry the lab made ones. Genetically modified corn 🌽. The corn we all used to eat is rarely found anymore here in the USA heirloom seeds to foods are not readily available in many towns! I wanted some heirloom plants even for my yard they only had seasonal at a few places that do not produce seeds of the ones I wanted! Others still are heirloom plants but their getting harder to get.
11 GM foods carried in almost every store now https://www.treehugger.com/green-food/11-gm-foods-commonly-found-grocery-stores.html
A lot of soy products to zucchini are GMO now too. Can’t stop eating tho.
I figure the future will be worse for further generations so just like our parents foods was healthier than ours will be considered a more healthy food era than the ones to come.

More good reads. Here’s how to find out how your store measures up on trying to not have GMO products.Of course they may still unknowingly have some from cornbread to cereals even Pet Foods!

I use Stevia based sweetener. I haven’t noticed an aftertaste.

I'm a banana cream pie on a graham cracker crust. 🥧
My sweetener of choice is monk fruit, which grows on trees. I buy the purest, powder form which comes with a teeny, tiny spoon equal to one serving. I add it to my first cup of coffee, smoothies and iced tea. There is a monk fruit product made for baking, but I find that it only works well when combined with real sugar.
Barbara: I loved the video by your instructor. I am going to add some of those exercises to my routine.
Katla: Vintage sourdough starter is a very special gift in my book. Glad you had a good visit.
Janetr: Giant hugs. I keep your DD in my prayers.
Amber: I second Margaret's recommendation of the book "Eating on the Wild Side". It made a profound impression on me. I try to buy organic and seasonal produce as much as I can. I installed an under counter water purifier on my kitchen sink so I can wash everything well before we eat it. Thanks for that website with the different non-GMO grocers. But, you are right...we have to eat, and almost everything we find in neighborhood grocery stores has been 'manufactured'. The book "Salt, Sugar, Fat" chronicles this very clearly.
Heather: I did my poo test today, too. I had a colonoscopy less than 3 years ago, but changed medical systems, so they wanted me to do this test as part of my full physical upcoming next week. I'm in awe of how you kept your diaries all these years. Happy reading.
Stay well, friends. We can do this.

Back from a fun evening.. cost me 216.00 for a battery but the guy put it in,so now I dont have to worry about that...
We went to Mohegan Sun 1 of the casinos here in Ct. Trudy got free tickets for Brian Wilson.. now if you ladies remember he formed the beach boys....
Wow so he is 77 and the brought him out on stage with a Walker and plopped him in front of a piano.. Al Jardine is still with him and can play and sing and they have another 8 musicians with them to make up the music..
I swear Brian must have had a stroke as he could only sing a few words and the rest of the group sang ..even with the camera on him he waant singing nor playing the piano..
Sorta sad to see..
I spent 10 bucks on the slots and won it back and cashed out..home and in bed and will be working an 8 hr day tomorrow3 -
Terri – the aftertaste I experienced with stevia was probably because I was using the liquid drops which are concentrated. Oh well….. I like honey. This guy down the street from me has hives in his backyard. Can’t get much more local than that!
Allie - it's so sad to see some of our rock musicians failing (or even dead). Glad you had a good time
