went over to the hospital to do blood work, they have it shut up like fort knox, but that is good, it was quick and painless.. and will go see my kidney dr on tuesday..
will speak with her about maybe going on disability that way I could stay out of work.. but I dont want to cheat the system either..

Good morning ladies!

Another day to count blessings. Good stuff and virus update;

--Renewing relationships with neighbors via texting, email, messaging. We are looking out for each other
--Getting out for daily walks with my neighbor. She is such an interesting person, and was a nurse at the hospital not far from where the virus broke out in the nursing home near Seattle. She retired the end of December. We share the same philosophy and outlook on many things, doing what we can to remain positive and take care of our health.
--So far most businesses are still open other than bars, restaurants (doing curbside and takeout now) and gyms. Employees using caution and wiping down a lot.
--County offices are closed to the general public for 2 weeks, but still doing business via email, internet, etc. So employees can come to work, get paid. Commissioners will be ironing out policy for employees over 60 with health conditions - there are several of them.
--Most grocery stores are having early morning openings for seniors and physically challenged at lease one day a week. But the early morning openings are generally super early- 5 to 6 or 6 to 7 am. Good idea for them to be able to stock up on essentials in a less-crowded environment. Awfully early for some people but fits my habits.
--At the White House press conference yesterday, Dr. Brix, the virus coordinator, said a malaria drug is promising.

I was able to find information on 1918 Spanish Flu deaths in the county where I was born and raised in Indiana. Many from my mom's home town. It was a very interesting YouTube presentation and showed newspaper clippings from that era. Even back then schools, churches and businesses were closed and folks were wearing masks and social distancing was advised. It was also thought that constipation contributed....perhaps that was a signal of an unhealthy gut and the folks who became ill had compromised immune systems? Amazing what researchers are discovering about our GI health.

Will make a run to town this morning for final necessities - quick stop at the garden store to get onion and potato starts & potting soil, fire starters, and the Cannabis store. I think it should qualify as a pharmacy since so many of us seniors frequent the place. That should do us for a month or more if it comes to that.

Looks like Chewy and Amazon are running low or have run out of our dog's food. Dogs are thrilled they might be relegated to eating boiled chicken breast and canned green beans for a while if they can't restock. I still have over a month's worth (bag and a half) of their chow left.

Biglots is now open 1st hour of every morning (their opening times first hour of it) is for Seniors only so you can get your shopping done! 65+ but sure if your 63 you can fudge on by lol 😂.

Rearranging my pantry for this mess. Plus to see what I got to use up first y last. Last out of reach. Get the sleepy time tea out of my way lol 😂 top shelf it goes.

Got to figure it out for next meals but exhausted 😩 heavy Aunt Flo has hit me hard luckily got my pregnancy vitamins so taking them for Aunt Flo like Doctor advised before JRs birth (he was planning on a Csection but didn’t tell me cause that’s not done in my family...I’m the 1st! So far only one to have one ever)

Hi All! I'm on page 62. Trying to catch back up. Busy with little one!! Looking like the 50-year class reunion for DH will be cancelled since schools in KS are out for the year. I know he will be very disappointed! Maybe at the end of the year everyone can make it?? Still hoping things calm down for our family reunion in June! I miss my babies in FL and my siblings, nephews, and nieces all over. I am very thankful for Face Time. I called my best friend who is also self-quarantined and it was so nice just to see her face and know they are okay!! As I try to get DH to be better about washing hands, I am wishing I hadn't taken microbiology in college!!

SuziQ I love your positive attitude! I am doing my best to look at things the same way! I’m sure I’ve mentioned my house is a disaster, and as I watch my back pain with Baby, I will start chipping away at the dirty house a bit at a time…have already started wiping down phone and remotes with alcohol and spraying doorknobs with Lysol. Hoping this will be the push I need to get back to a “normal” home.

Kylia Isn’t it amazing how far we have come with technology!! I am very grateful! Remembering how little I could talk to my Momma at the end of her life due to high long-distance rates…what a difference. Now we can see each other, and it feels so much better! Sorry about having to wear gloves. I am expecting if I do need to go anywhere besides the kid’s house, I will be wearing them, too, as the constant hand washing is killing my skin!

Kim I am so very pleased to hear of your neighbors taking interest in helping you through!! I am thinking all that is going on will bring the nation together again – the way we were after 9/11. We all need to watch out for one another. I stepped out to a neighbor yesterday (no big deal, but…none of us really co-mingle, so I talked across the fence to be sure she had what she needed and that she knew we are here for her).

Carol So sorry you were unable to get the things you needed from the store! It is sad how people have taken so many extra things that they won’t need and left others with nothing.

Barbie Staying in the moment is the key!! I am glad you see it. I am not worrying about what is ahead or behind…just the now. Enjoy everything we can and stay in touch with others. Grateful to have all of you lovely ladies to interact with!

Margaret I am so very sorry for all you have gone through with your son. I am glad you can talk by phone and that he told you he loved you!! Stories like yours put everything in perspective! I hope things continue to improve and you continue to be encouraged by his progress! Thank you for caring enough to share as you did.

I went around the corner to do my shopping. There was milk in the newsagents! No green veg, but I found a butternut squash and some huge onions and garlic. We have frozen veg, so we are fine. Bread sold out, so I took the opportunity to buy some longlife pumpernickel type rye bread, which I actually adore, but DH isn't so keen. Found some salt beef, so should be delicious!
The butcher's had pigs cheeks, escalopes, beef mince and chicken livers for me.
When I came home I washed my hands, then unpacked, then washed my hands again, then wiped down my purse with 70% alcohol, including the straps. I kept trying to visualise the bugs lurking there.

DH's sister has volunteered to go back into nursing. She used to be a sister in charge of an intensive care ward. She hasn't heard back yet from the hospital. She is 67. She is isolating from her long term boyfriend, who doesn't live permanently with her, because he is diabetic and I think has a bit of heart failure.

Virus talk: Coping Strategies

Some of you may know or remember that my academic area is literature, so one of my coping strategies is literature/reading. I have been compiling a plague reading list. I read Poe's "Masque of the Red Death" a few days ago, have put Boccaccio's The Decameron on my list, and last night, I started reading DeFoe's "Journal of a Plaque Year." In doing research, I discovered that in 1978, a Mexican film adaptation was done, El Año de la Peste, with screen play by Gabriel Garcia Marquez (my favorite world 20th century world author). I am now on a search for this film. And I discovered a short film, "The Periwig-Maker", also based on DeFoe's work. It's only 15 minutes long, and was nominated for best short film the year in 1999. What I've been struck by is that our strategies for dealing with this current virus are very similar to the strategies DeFoe describes in his novel (which scholars think was based on DeFoe's uncle's journal (DeFoe himself was only 5 during the wave of the bubonic plague described in his novel.)

Amber: Thank you for the kid-friendly sites and activities. They may work as well with my DH who has the cognitive abilities around the same level as a 4 year old. Can't wait to show him the jellyfish.

I can't think much beyond one day at a time. It's been a week of adjustments. DH was just getting acclimated to the Vets Club (adult day care) and they closed. We were scheduled to pick up his hearing aids on the 17th, and received a message that his VA clinic would be closed starting on that date. And, with the closure of schools and workplaces, the condo gym is in heavy use, so that's out of our menu of activities. We have been taking walks around the park and pond, which has been wonderful on many levels. It's not so great for my broken foot, but I'm dealing with it. DH and I have lived our life the entire year pretty much as hermits. I started ordering groceries online a year ago when I busted both ankles and grew to appreciate what a great time-saver this service is. We stopped travelling and going to restaurants months ago. I don't have much of a social circle here, but have cordial relationships with a handful of neighbors. Everyone is reaching out, which is very sweet.

Brother is vulnerable, anxious, with kidney and liver disease. He has kept away from DH and me every day. He holes up in the clubhouse adjacent to the condo gym. He has a comfy couch with TV and internet access, so he goes there right after waking up, and comes back after 9 PM when DH, the cat and I have already gone to bed. He, by nature is much more social than me, and just wants to get back to searching for a job and meeting his friends at the local sports bar. He is going to be very unhappy when he gets up today and sees it's SNOWING and we are predicted to get about 10 inches today. ❄❄❄ Oh, yeah. Happy spring!

I've been eating at night which is new for me. I've got to get a handle on this because the weight is slowing coming back, and getting on the scale every AM is pissing me off. My virtual-meeting with VA social worker is today, and I'm hoping that if I can unburden with her, I'll be more emotionally balanced around food.

And so for NOW, we are okay. The guys are still in bed, and the cat and I are watching the snow fall, wondering how we can make today fun. Stay well friends. We can do this.

Just checking in with everyone. Work has exploded. We supply technology to businesses with 2000 employees + so you can imagine the orders are flying in. Phone headsets for the computers seem to be in high demand. We are currently trying to track down 80,000 of them for one client. And, that is only one order.

Please stay safe everyone which means staying in and away from others. I have no choice there - it looks like it is going to be a 15-hour day in front of my computer!

It's actually good because keeping busy and away from the news is one way for me to keep sane. I have been taking 10-minute walking breaks every two hours or so. So glad I have a large courtyard with a rather high privacy fence. And, so very thankful I can work remotely.

DH is getting stir crazy. He is also more paranoid about this virus than I am. I am concerned, do t get me wrong but we are isolated here and safe unless we go into town. He is a hoarder and worries we are going to run out of food. On the other hand, he tells the rangers that we have enough food to feed the few of us here for the next two months! IDK..... he is high strung, has ADD and OCD too boot. Making me crazy! Lol.

I’m the sort that takes precautions but deals with problems as they come.

Carol in GA: I am so sorry that your BnL has been left in the hospital due to fear of the virus. There is a world full of fear and paranoia now and I haven’t a clue how long it will be until the pandemic is finally over.

Michele: I went to the grocery store yesterday and it was full of things I need, but nearly empty of people. The local stores have been asked by the governor to take your list, shop for you, and bring the groceries to your car. Restaurants can stay “open” for take out only. Hamburger stands with drive through windows are all set, but the good restaurants are doing their best to follow the rules the governor has imposed. You call your order in and someone brings it to your car. The hardware store has had no rules imposed on it. :huh: Our state has plenty of flu cases but our county doesn’t. YAY!

Karen: I detest the assistant, but not the doctor. She wants me to have a colonoscopy. I sent a message yesterday and haven’t looked for the response yet this morning. :ohwell:

Rori: I’m so sorry that the vet’s club is unavailable for now. Making fun a daily goal is brilliant. I also have that goal. Yesterday’s fun was fixing a broken window shade in our bedroom. It was a huge one for the sliding glass door. It took hours, but DH managed it beautifully.


Grocery stores are empty of customers and delivering groceries to the curb. Hardware stores have no restrictions. What a weird world!
