Janetr - How wonderful to have a great grandchild! I already miss the grandchildren 's babyhood. Shan't have another baby for a l o n g time. Barring accidents. I wonder if I will live long enough. Yours is gorgeous.
The wind last night took down two beach huts and the dining 'igloos' on the seafront. Torn to shreds. Up to 100 mph winds in some places. Flooding locally and worse around the country.
It was gorgeous when we went out, but we walked past all the debris.
Expecting colder weather tomorrow and towards New Year.
A very dear old friend from university has sent me an invitation to a Zoom "At Home" on NYD. Might give it a go.

Heather my granddaughter had just turned 19 when Jaxx was born. I actually have four grandchildren older than her. 27, 25, 23 and 21 then also a 13 year old. My daughters started very young having children. I was almost 25 when my first was born. The tiny baby stage certainly doesn't last long, I just wish I could cuddle baby Jaxx.
That was certainly a strong wind you had along the beach. Weather has been crazy lately.

Katla. I had a great time building my little snowman, I wanted to make him larger but the snow was very wet and heavy so I was concerned I wouldn't be able to lift a larger body up by myself. I told Jack I might not ever get another chance to build a snowman

Cynnanimgirl – welcome! I’m so sorry to hear that you’re in constant pain. Can you get those stones removed?
Debbie – glad you could find a silver lining in this covid mess
KJ – welcome back. Thanks for the idea of having cinnamon rolls when Ken & Lynette come over NYE. I hear ya about the toaster oven. I have no desire for one
Tracey – I’m still mourning my mother over 50 years and my father over 15 years. Watched the DVD of Dr. Zhivago that I got for Christmas. Never fails that I ALWAYS cry in the beginning and at the end. And it didn’t disappoint this time, either. Oh, those boys are SOOO adorable, I just want to squeeze them.
Janetr – I’m so sorry you haven’t even had a chance to meet Jaxx. “Thank you China” is all I can say
Jess is talking about leaving Shadow here while they go out to move so they don’t have to worry about the door being open. I totally understand and told her that’s fine. Then she plans to come back here to work some more at Banfield.
Allie – prime rib and potatoes! You need the protein, and you’re sure getting it
Janetr – too bad Jack didn’t join you in the building. Such fun!

Rita - Isn’t technology just the greatest. I often think how much better it would have been moving across the country if we had the technology we do today.
Sorry you had to read about your daughter’s engagement on FB though.
Janet - what fun building a snowman.
I think I need to clarify, my husband doesn’t think I should be “over” Dad’s passing he thinks I should remember him with smiles and such and not get down about it. He, thankfully, hasn’t lost a parent yet I don’t think he understands completely.
Today I delivered some treats to my daughters and a couple friends. On my drive one of the songs that Dad requested be played at his funeral came on. I cried and sang through it. It’s a beautiful song, called Far Side Banks of Jordan by Daniel O’Donnell. December is hard, Dad passed on Dec 9th and his birthday was Jan 4th so it all happens at once. Crying heals my soul I think.
I love all of the Grandchildren pictures.
I am hopeful that I get to see a great grandchild someday. I had our eldest when I was 20, my daughter was 22 when she had Jonah. Women are long lived in my family though. My Grandmother had my Mom at 33, Mom had me at 22. My youngest daughter was 18 when my Grandmother passed.
We are having appetizers for supper tonight, Rodger is watching the World Juniors. I plan on reading some of my Dolly Parton book and taking a long soak in the tub. Not at the same time. This book is more of a coffee table book and is too heavy for a bath.
I have tomorrow off and return to work Tuesday. I’m looking forward to another long weekend next weekend.

Tracey my daughter was only 17 when her first son (now 27) was born, he's a big big guy and now he's often mistaken to be her boyfriend lol. My mom was 17 when my oldest sister was born and became a grandma at only 34.
Enjoy your day off tomorrow, I'm happy to hear you got the vaccination.

Janet OKC: Snow! It looks like you were having fun building your snowman. I’ve missed seeing you and it is good to see you back.
Tracey: I am so glad you are doing okay.
(((Pip:))) I’m sorry for your loss. Lenny must have been very special. You have been blessed twice, with two fine men.
Debbie: Sorry for your situation. Take care of yourself. :flowerforyou:
KJ: You have been missed. I hope you got a bit of rest along the way. I love your photos!
Cynnamin girl: Welcome! :flowerforyou:
(((Rebecca))): I’m sorry that your son didn’t call.
Our Christmas tree is an Alberta Spruce. It is doing very well and we like it. We bought this one last year to replace an older tree that wasn’t doing well. We still have the older tree. The county extensions agent told me the older tree’s health problems are caused by mites. I’ve been spraying it regularly with pyrethrin. I hope I can cure it over time.

Machka – The reason people rent is so they do not have to worry about repairs. If my stove top was not properly working I would call the owner and get it repaired. Is it not the same there? Glad the electric frying pan worked well for your meal.
Hugs to all and prayers for those in need.
SuziQ – SFL
The reason people rent here is because we can't afford to do anything else. The house we're in would be way out of our league if we were to try to buy it. In fact, most houses in our city and surrounding area are out of our league.
Our landlord has been really good to us, especially since my husband's injury, and has not raised the rent much. In turn, we keep up with the minor stuff.
So ... we spent $40 or so on an electric frying pan which seems to be able to solve our problem rather than rocking the boat.
M in Oz
Is your stove electric? Is it one without a glass top? I found replacing the coils worked on my old electric stove for the issue you described. The coils were cheap (this was quite a few years ago) and just pulled off. The new ones slide on (there is a little tugging - nothing major).
Electric with a glass top.
(And those are mini cheesecakes I made several years ago)

It has been a long time since I've built a snowman! Maybe a decade.

Julie-I understand your feelings of “what’s the point.” I had a real bout of that earlier today. I slowly realized that the point is, this will end, so I just want to hold on and not use this darned virus as an excuse (at least in my case) for a huge skid. And by the way-you weigh about what I do and I’m 5’5”. That is not fat! Good luck with tooth.
Beth-I too took a screen shot of your carrot surprise, and shared it with a couple of people!
SuziQ-how nice of your neighbors! Good job with financial planning (and being close to another debt gone!)
Flea-hope your mom is ok.
Debbie-sorry for the MIL on Christmas. I agree as has been mentioned, you need to plan time for you and our parents. It must also be very painful for your son. I have a SIL in talks to her children like that-or did until they stopped having anything to do with her.
Machka-we are still staying with the longer isolation even with a negative test after a close, definite exposure (negative just means negative for that time). Also, it can still take 4 days or so to get test results, depending where you live. Unfortunately, many parts of the US are still having testing issues . . . Also-I would still open the top of the stove and see what the elements are like under them-it could still be the plug in sort, especially if it is an older glass top.
Tracey-sorry to hear of the covid outbreak at your facility. Several in my county (and elsewhere, of course) have been hit very hard. Glad you got first dose of vaccine.
Had a decent Christmas-facetime with youngest son and GF while we opened each other's gifts. FaceTime with Arizona group and watched kids open their presents. Later in day we did a three way family face time. Step son and wife stopped by with kids Christmas afternoon (stayed in garage), quickly opened gifts and visited for about 15 minutes. Zoom call with nephew in the evening.
Hit a pit of depression this afternoon. Tested Az kids that I was pretty sick and tired of the isolation, etc. They face timed. Each of the kids needed to update on the past two days-the chat helped pick me up!
Well, it's about time for me to pack it in. Short work week this week again (and I may make it even shorter!).
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

Just popping in before I switch off the light. I have 3 pages to go, but may fall asleep before I get there.
Annie - It can be difficult to deal with aging parents and trying to help is often seen by them as interfering. I don’t envy you being in that situation. We've been there ourselves.
Tracey: I got behind myself just from sorting out Christmas, so not surprising that all the drama at work left you little time to come on here. So glad that you feel fine from it. We were also restricted from meeting indoors, so I organised an outdoor socially distanced get together on Christmas Eve, and was fortunate that the weather was fine. The gift opening Skype party on Christmas Day worked a treat. I was often still finishing off handicrafts on Christmas Eve for gifts on Christmas Day 😂
Allie - I’m happy to hear that you are doing better. All that palavert would drive me scatty too.
Heather - love the pics of your grandchildren.
Suzi - I got tired of being the chaser-upper with some family and friends. You get little thanks for it. I have donated the majority of my larger clothes as an incentive to stay on the straight and narrow. 😂
Katla - lovely tree
Machka - Relaxation has become an essential part of my daily routine. I meditate or do one of my arts/crafts activities. Writing is also an escape mechanism.
Flea - mincemeat pies were originally made in medieval times with meat. The modern sweetmince was only introduced a couple of centuries ago.
Rebecca - 😍 The card swag, and Athena, of course.
Debbie - my mother was toxic. I eventually stopped visiting her, as she was always trying to cause trouble for me.
😍Joaquin and Miguel.
All in all, we enjoyed Christmas, despite the limitations of Covid. We got together outdoors with our girls et al, having chosen not to have close contact, and it worked well.

I second this. I still get teary and sad about my grandmother. I miss her so much. Her birthday was today. :-( Anyway, she died very young -- 62, so I only knew her for 21 years. I am nearly as old as she was when she died (just turned 60), so she's been gone for twice as long as she was in my life. No matter. I really, really, miss her. She was amazing. Not one important thing has happened in my life when I haven't wished she was here to share it.

DH and I have had some health problems this year, which rocked the boat a bit, but in general we have had a very good year
We have so much appreciated each other's support and encouragement during lockdown. I feel blessed by our partnership.
We have both made very good progress with our writing. We settle down to a session every morning after exercise and I am getting nearer to finishing a very long book covering my teenage years. My teenage self has been an interesting companion through her diaries.
Updating the living room and dining room with sanded floors and a paint job. Gives us pleasure every day.
Making huge progress with German and discovering all the "Easy..." language videos on YouTube.
Feeling supported by my son, DDIL and grandchildren. They have done so much to keep our spirits up with videos, photos, Zooms and garden visits. We still feel in touch with their lives.
Not gaining any weight. Haven't lost any either, but we've kept up with our rigorous exercise regime through bouts of less than perfect health,so we are proud of ourselves.
Eating lovely, delicious food every day.
Enjoying the community I live in. The local shops are a joy. The sea is always new.
Zooming my old school friends once a week. I've seen more of them this year than ever! We have known each other 57 years.
Many more wonderful things!
I'm looking forward to even more progress on my book. Starting today!

Thank you. He has been hearing this stuff all his life- like when he was about 13 that she didn't want him , that she found out too far into the pregnancy that she was pregnant so couldn't end it. Yeah, great thing to be told.
She loved her first husband, the other son's father but he divorced her, leaving her alone with a 2 yr old in Tokyo. Husband's dad was a widower so out of feeling sorry for her, married her and brought them back to US- always said that was the biggest mistake of his life- she treated him just as bad if not worse than she does his son.

I'm so sorry. There are many many people that were not planned or not good timing or wrong gender relative to the parents's wish something, especially back then when there was not much easy access to birth control, but that's not a reason for being mean. And people can change, even very late in life. My mom was argumentative but after going to a nursing home due to mobility issues, she started taking anti-depressants in her 70s, re-started counselling briefly, had some nice nurse's aids to interact regularly with that she related to, and also communication classes at the nursing home a few years later, and became so much easier to deal with.2 -

Good for you that you are recognising and able to keep perspective.
Long ago a friend-acquaintance spoke about a friend of his who said something like, "he lets himself hit bottom, and then come back, but the friend I was talking to found it a loss of energy." I don't think I had such a notion but it's a conversation that remained in my memory, so I guess it had some meaning.
This weekend I really felt that inertia, especially yesterday. It was so stormy it was difficult to go out really, and one only has the choice between home, shopping and walking outside pretty much these days. I'm not a major shopper.
Ginny, but I am 5'2"! That's a big difference from 5'55 the same weight. Your BMI would be about 23 and mine about 25! For the past 20+ years I'd been at about 19-20 BMI, without much effort really. Now I'm close to 25 BMI. Of course it could be worse. I am not comparing myself to other people but to myself. I've gained about 15 lbs in the past 3 years or so, that I hadn't had for decades. People have different comfort zones. It could be worse, but I'm not thrilled with seeing belly, and had to buy new jeans, etc.
All the women in my immediate family struggle with weight. 3 of the 4 others have had long bouts being morbidly obese, and have spend most of their lives well over 25 BMI.
I was spared from this struggle for 20 years! I guess I can be grateful for that!!!! I naturally lost weight without trying at all, when I was 33 and in a nice regular relationship with a guy who ate healthily. (and who didn't ask me to lose weight at all. He liked me as I was both before and after losing weight)... and then I just stayed within a certain reasonably comfortable range, for a couple of decades till 2 years post menopause. As we're getting closer to the end of 2020, I'll ask this question ...

Hello everyone.
Yesterday was a productive day. My 2021 goals are almost complete and all of the Christmas decorations, with the exception of the lights in the windows and the Nativity scene, are all packed up and stowed away. The Nativity and lights will be put up after the Epiphany.
While compiling my 2021 goals I reviewed 2020. For goals met and not met I added notes next to each. Comments included why it felt good to complete the goal or the reason why I may not have met one. After a complete review of 2020 I started compiling my 2021 goals. Next to each goal I wrote out why I want to hit the goal or some commentary such as, “Hey girl, this one was carried over from 2020 – do you really want another year to pass and not hit this goal?” 😊
Michelle – The long and short of Charlie’s hairline foot fracture is – he ended up developing a blood clot because of how he was walking. He ended up in the hospital for a week on intravenous blood thinners. This was after 2 separate x-ray appointments and then finally the MRI.
Heather – So glad you were able to catch up with your brother and SIL. I want a pair of guinea pig pjs! The grands look adorable.
Allie – So glad you are home and on the mend. Keep up the great work!
Debbie – Big hug to you. You have the patience of a saint. I would not have put up with the type of treatment from your MIL for 30 years. It is time to put yourself first. There is absolutely nothing wrong with you spending time with your family for the holidays while your husband spends time with his mother. You can plan a separate family celebration at your home. Remember girlfriend, no one is going to treat you better than you treat yourself (this is one of my mantras). I have read a little further on and Put YOURSELF first – it is not selfish – it’s survival. I am very proud of you standing up and putting your jacket on. And, although it took him some time your husband did tell her he had to go and he did (small win my dear).
Karen – Could you imagine the US putting the same tactics in place as Australia? There would be a revolt! I posted something to this fact and attitudes around the world in our covid section.
Katla – Hope the car just needs a tire rotation and it’s nothing serious.
Tracey – So glad to see your post. Life takes us away sometimes. Your husband’s woodwork is beautiful. I love the jewelry box and stockings, and, of course, the treasured card from your mom.
RVRita – I think we are both in-sync. I was getting tired of the negative running through my brain. Glad to hear the pain is lessening and hope you get a call from the darn urologist.
JanetR – You’re so cute playing out in the snow. It is good hearing from you. Love little Santa – he is precious!
Cynnamingirl – Welcome.
KJ – The grands are getting so big! Cuteness overload. Enjoy the rest of your time off – it sounds like you’re getting the much-deserved rest you need.
Machka – Oh, a glass top. I never attempted to repair mine. They are a little more complex. I see Ginny has provided a suggestion regarding glass top repair. Already mentioned the 2020 positives in a previous post. 😊
Ginny – You are on handy-woman! 😊 Happy the Facetime was a balm to your soul.
Loved Ones Who Are Gone/Died/Missed – I speak to each and every one. Some more than others. When I am quiet I can sometimes hear their voices or catch a whiff of their scent (may be reflex memory) and know they stop in from time to time. Even if it is only in my mind it provides a comfort to me. Shortly after Charlie passed I went to a Sylvia Brown show (don’t fault me – I got free tickets and thought it would be interesting). She said one thing about those who have passed that touched me. She stated souls have cut their physical ties and do not carry over pain or regret. They are having a grand time and want us to do the same. She stated this much more eloquently than I have done, but the meaning is the same.
Geez how the morning has flown by! I was up at 3:30, stayed in bed until 4:00, and have been puttering. It is time to get on the “get ready for work” train. 😊 It will be a busy week – lots to do. We need to make our numbers for this quarter so I imagine it will get a crazy week. I am also down 1 in the department due to vacation. Looking forward to it being a busy short week! Only 4 days and then another long weekend. Yeah!
Hugs to all and prayers for those in need.

I can't think of a single other thing.

Hmmm, not so simple.
I have to wrack my brains.
The main thing that comes to mind is
--worker's rights, was very active and very much in some collective worker's rights things for hundreds of teachers in the 20 concerned schools that would have gone unmentioned and unnoticed without me. Working with a colleague, that became a flyer, that became a petition (paper and online), signed by about 20%+ of teachers so far, which then became a collective of 17 people (with about 6-8 who are regularly fairly active, and take initiatives in contacting press, government officials, allies, etc.) from about 12 out of the 20 schools all over the country, with union representative, and written support by elected officials. It is now a subject that is officially on the negotiating table, with some leverage. The minister has answered some about this subject, but not us. Some press coverage...We've had googlemeet meetings about every 3 weeks. Since September I've been writing an agenda (before it was a bit all over the place), and an experienced guy is leading the meetings relatively well, and sticking fairly well to the agenda.
The group is not perfect but all in all pretty good.
Got my permanent part-time contract at 3rd pt school September (it's a legal right after 6 years in the same place in government based jobs, but many places get rid of people after 5 or 5.5 years! -which is not terribly legal, or simple don't respect the law. They tried to make my 6th contract 11 months rather than 12 months as they have done for many (also a habit at this school, so they can keep their options open, just in case), and I contested that, repeatedly, with some very very mild union support and eventually they switched it to 12 (they had tried to omit a month during which I had given classes!)
Got new furniture and place looks way better. No more piles of papers on floor and chaires and tables.
My thesis director started being normal to me after years of being mean, and totally unsupportive. Her pet student (who she travelled with, from same country as her adopted daughter, and who was having a long affaire with a very senior professor) graduated, and since, we started having online meetings she couldn't give such BS almost nothing classes, and had to start being a bit more balanced, and started giving info to all. A bit late in the game after many many years (which were harmful professionally). but it's better than the opposite, at present. Also I know she had dissed me to her colleagues and when I presented myself and work for 5 min in a group with many of her colleagues I did it quite well enough and was really irreproachable. Some of her new, fairer colleagues must have gently said to her that I seemed okay. (There's some old school issues in the old guard which is changing a bit this year.)
Some political elections went in the direction I wanted them to go, on the overall left-right spectrum. (I'll avoid details to avoid controversy). Nothing major or cause for euphoria, but much better than it could have been.
I made one nice artwork just after lockdown and shot some video shots of experience of lockdown at the request of a friend who was supposed to make a video from it, as part of a series, related to his work, but is a major procrastinator, and has only done one I think, out of 30 or so.
Enjoyed my ritual 1h in sun on balcony (from 8 -9ish) during severe lockdown, reading, sketching, drinking tea, having breakfast, and daily 1h-1h30 walks around the neighbourhood, also during severe lockdown.
Did some interesting work with some of my students last lockdown.
Also had many nice or okay moments, classes this past semester. There are surely some students that are more comfortable expressing themselves in this way.
Had many nice moments at café when it was open. I would go almost daily to get an espresso and read the paper and sometimes work. Sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes a few hours.
Met a few nice people at the café, simple café buddies: two other teachers (one philosophy teacher, always correcting tons of papers, and another co-leader of tiny graphic design school), and a very recently-laid off computer guy.
Met a few other nice neighbours and had some nice moments speaking with them.
Rented cheap hotel room near the sea, and enjoyed going to the sea, going for lunch, going for coffee, going for swim in the ocean-water heated swimming pool (the sea is very cold even in the summer), going on a guided walk along the seaside to discover some stone fossils.
Went on what turned out to be a mini "road trip", visiting my friend-colleague P for a couple of days (it was mixed but leaves some nice memories), visiting very old friend J. it was great to see her! and spending a few hours one day at a warmer seaside with bigger waves on unexpectedly sunny and warm day, and then spending 2 nights on last minute found lovely inexpensive hotel, not far from highway on way home. with pool, nice garden.
Drinks with colleagues at cafés a few times in the pre-and in-between lockdown period.
Fun going to a few protests back in January and February (I had almost never been to protests previously, not enjoying crowds, but It was a must these times and became fun, when meeting up with a few engaged colleagues at different moments).
Some nice work meetings both live and (less so) online.
Video meetings with very very old friend T.
Calls with a few old friends.
awesome lawyer and work with him
Well I thought it was little, but in fact it is quite a lot, in certain areas.
