Cancelled hairdresser's today, (no appointment till next Tuesday evening). Had to go to dentist. He says I need 1 inlay/onlay, 2 crowns and 1 implant. I was expecting 2 crowns, but not the implant and the 3rd tooth.
I had some tooth issues in mid summer when almost all dentists are away, and then during beginning of 1st lockdown, when all non-urgent (extremely painful) dental issues were not legal. since it's in back molars and not really visible, or very visible I had a protective or temp filling, and somehow left on the back burning during this complicated year.
That is going to cost 3-4 thousand euros to do the 3.
Way more than the furniture.
Way more than the modest summer trips...
On the way back I stopped in at Uniqlo and got a couple of flannel shirts and a couple of pairs of undies. I almost never wear flannel shirts as they don't look best on me, but they are very cozy, and fine for staying at home in the winter...
Heating up the last of the chicken (guinea fowl) broth soup.
tracking 3rd day in a row.

Hello everyone.
Yesterday was a productive day. My 2021 goals are almost complete and all of the Christmas decorations, with the exception of the lights in the windows and the Nativity scene, are all packed up and stowed away. The Nativity and lights will be put up after the Epiphany.
While compiling my 2021 goals I reviewed 2020. For goals met and not met I added notes next to each. Comments included why it felt good to complete the goal or the reason why I may not have met one. After a complete review of 2020 I started compiling my 2021 goals. Next to each goal I wrote out why I want to hit the goal or some commentary such as, “Hey girl, this one was carried over from 2020 – do you really want another year to pass and not hit this goal?” 😊
Michelle – The long and short of Charlie’s hairline foot fracture is – he ended up developing a blood clot because of how he was walking. He ended up in the hospital for a week on intravenous blood thinners. This was after 2 separate x-ray appointments and then finally the MRI.
Heather – So glad you were able to catch up with your brother and SIL. I want a pair of guinea pig pjs! The grands look adorable.
Allie – So glad you are home and on the mend. Keep up the great work!
Debbie – Big hug to you. You have the patience of a saint. I would not have put up with the type of treatment from your MIL for 30 years. It is time to put yourself first. There is absolutely nothing wrong with you spending time with your family for the holidays while your husband spends time with his mother. You can plan a separate family celebration at your home. Remember girlfriend, no one is going to treat you better than you treat yourself (this is one of my mantras). I have read a little further on and Put YOURSELF first – it is not selfish – it’s survival. I am very proud of you standing up and putting your jacket on. And, although it took him some time your husband did tell her he had to go and he did (small win my dear).
Karen – Could you imagine the US putting the same tactics in place as Australia? There would be a revolt! I posted something to this fact and attitudes around the world in our covid section.
Katla – Hope the car just needs a tire rotation and it’s nothing serious.
Tracey – So glad to see your post. Life takes us away sometimes. Your husband’s woodwork is beautiful. I love the jewelry box and stockings, and, of course, the treasured card from your mom.
RVRita – I think we are both in-sync. I was getting tired of the negative running through my brain. Glad to hear the pain is lessening and hope you get a call from the darn urologist.
JanetR – You’re so cute playing out in the snow. It is good hearing from you. Love little Santa – he is precious!
Cynnamingirl – Welcome.
KJ – The grands are getting so big! Cuteness overload. Enjoy the rest of your time off – it sounds like you’re getting the much-deserved rest you need.
Machka – Oh, a glass top. I never attempted to repair mine. They are a little more complex. I see Ginny has provided a suggestion regarding glass top repair. Already mentioned the 2020 positives in a previous post. 😊
Ginny – You are on handy-woman! 😊 Happy the Facetime was a balm to your soul.
Loved Ones Who Are Gone/Died/Missed – I speak to each and every one. Some more than others. When I am quiet I can sometimes hear their voices or catch a whiff of their scent (may be reflex memory) and know they stop in from time to time. Even if it is only in my mind it provides a comfort to me. Shortly after Charlie passed I went to a Sylvia Brown show (don’t fault me – I got free tickets and thought it would be interesting). She said one thing about those who have passed that touched me. She stated souls have cut their physical ties and do not carry over pain or regret. They are having a grand time and want us to do the same. She stated this much more eloquently than I have done, but the meaning is the same.
Geez how the morning has flown by! I was up at 3:30, stayed in bed until 4:00, and have been puttering. It is time to get on the “get ready for work” train. 😊 It will be a busy week – lots to do. We need to make our numbers for this quarter so I imagine it will get a crazy week. I am also down 1 in the department due to vacation. Looking forward to it being a busy short week! Only 4 days and then another long weekend. Yeah!
Hugs to all and prayers for those in need.
SuziQ – SFL
Great that you are moving on positively with your goals!

Debby in Va7 -
Good morning all! I weighed in this morning, after realizing I haven't weighed myself in a week (meaning since before the feasting). I have gained five pounds in a week! Mentioned this to my hubby and he told me he gained five pounds as well.
Holy Cats! lol Crossed a few unnecessary things off my list (wine, charcuterie fixings, New Year snacks), added more veggies, ingredients for some dimsum style snacks/dinner, and the ingredients for a veggie soup and I am heading out to do my shopping for the week. It is still dark here, so I will get my walk in as soon as the sun comes up (in about an hour).
Here's something to think about: December 21, winter solstice, and also the shortest day/daylight of the year. So every day since Dec. 21 (and until June 22), we are gaining another 2 minutes and 7 seconds of daylight! Yea! More sunshine!
I think I am going to take a page out of Lisa's book and get on my elliptical! I am not worried about over doing it on that machine. Since I haven't used it in a while, I am going to have to start at the very beginning; which means I will only last five minutes at the most (I am guessing closer to 3 minutes) before I am out of breath. But you gotta start somewhere.
Machka asked: What are some of your highlights of 2020?
Good things. Happy things. Accomplishments.
* I was able to remain open when COVID hit and (knock wood), my immediate family/childcare has not been hit with the virus yet.
* In March/April, when I expressed my worries and fears, my family/childcare families were immediate with their support for me; both emotional and financial.
* Because my daughter was working from home and her childcare was closed for a time, I was able to viber with the boys almost daily, sometimes two or three times a day! Because of this, Joaquin can now call/viber me on his own; which he does from time to time and sets my heart aflutter seeing his face and hearing his little voice say, "Hi Grandmere!"
*My childcare business is growing. Although I am still waiting to be officially inspected and licensed as a group home; I have 10 happy children in my care and my husband seems happy to be my assistant/partner and be involved with the kids.
*My relationship with my DH has grown/deepened with this new joint business venture.
*I accepted a position on the board of directors for a committee that organizes our local historical reenactment weekend event in June of each year. It is an event that I have a long history of volunteering for and working. It gives me joy to teach others about the history of our area/community. I haven't served in a leadership role on any volunteer/charity since my kids were in high school (so more than eight years since my last leadership role).
*The last thing I am happy about is the knowledge that 2020 was one year in thousands of years. A blip on the timeline. Depending on how long I live, a small percentage of my lifetime. I have another day, week, month, year to grow, learn, change, affect change, make a difference in my life and other lives.
Off I go, to get a good start on my day. A walk before shopping. I will leave you with the latest pic of Joaquin, wearing multiple Christmas headbands. lol Goofy guy!

By the way: The above pic is a screenshot of what I see when Joaquin vibers me on his own! lol This face on the screen and "Hi Grandmere! Do you like my hat?"5

(((Debbie & Debby))) Both of you have been facing some difficult times. Debbie in VA - Prayers for both your daughters. Debby with the Upsetting MnL - Positive thoughts for you as you continue to deal with her and your
husband.
Tracey-So sorry to hear about the rampant spread of the virus in the facility where you work. I hope you will continue to stay safe and that the vaccine will be effective.
Janet Thanks so much for stopping by! Your snowman is great!
2020 has been a VERY QUIET year for us! I live such a quiet life that I seldom have a lot to say here but know I should consider that a good thing. We are blessed and hope to continue to be blessed in the New Year 2021.

Horrible dark, rainy, gloomy day.
This morning I'd written about 300 words when I couldn’t stand it any longer and decided to do my roots. Hooray! I always feel so good once I'm a natural blonde again.
Love the hat KJ!!! Max can send us a Zoom invitation, but his laptop is on the blink, so we see him through a fog.
Cooking lamb curry with spinach and peas.
Soon to get on the rower for bonus calories. I am knackered after a terrible night's sleep. Will nap afterwards.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx6 -
Carol in GA Thank you, sweetie. I bet your grandchildren are getting big. I'm glad you are doing well.
Janetr OKC2 -
After knitting about a third of the baby blanket I'm doing for a woman I met on Zoom recently, I realized that I've made it too wide. After considering a variety of solutions, I decided to order more yarn and start over. I'll finish the blanket I've started and give it to Project LInus where it can go to a slightly older child. At first it sounded like a lot of money and then I realized that Jake just bought a hat he didn't need that cost more than the yarn and when we drove past the fancy coffee stand on the way to the grocery store yesterday, that people who buy a fancy coffee every morning spend more than that each week for coffee. Now it hardly seems extravagant at all.
Carol, Like you, I am very grateful for my quiet life.

Rita: I am usually the one who initiates phone calls with our daughter and her family. I enjoy talking with them, and don’t mind paying for long distance calls. We have been taking advantage of the magic of zoom calls whenever possible.
(((Tracey:))) I am so sorry about the loss of your dad. We each have our own timetable for grief & healing when confronted by the loss of a loved one. Moms and dads are high on that list. Your husband’s pushing is likely well intentioned but unrealistic. If he has not already experienced the loss of a parent or loved one, he likely doesn’t understand.
Kim in N CA: It is good to see your post.
Heather and Machka: I’m not gaining weight, either, but I feel as though I’m not active enough. Lock down is awful. I miss the gym, and also miss going out to the stable. The stable is a favorite place for me, but DH has been anxious and wants me to be at home. I’m hoping for vaccinations for all of us who need them to stay healthy & a better 2021.
Barbara: We all watched Auntie Mame via Amazon Prime. We rented the movie for $3. DH says that our son and family watched with our daughter’s family on a shared connection and we all watched at the same time. Our son timed things so that we started and ended together. I am grateful that I didn’t have to do any of the setup.
SuziQ: I misunderstood DH. The car tires are okay but we need to buy a new rear windshield wiper. It has been ordered. I don’t know when it will arrive. :ohwell:
Debby in VA: Sending good thoughts for your daughters. :flowerforyou:
KJ: I crave light, too. I am so glad that the days are getting longer.
Carol in GA: I hope we are all blessed with a good 2021. :flowerforyou:
Today we have frost on the deck and a slippery outside. I carefully let the dog off of the deck for his morning constitutional. It was too dark for me to see what little prizes he left on the lawn, so I’ll be going out there soon to pick up after him.
Be safe.

Checking in. Not talkative today.

The family's test results have come back today - negative.
I said they should ask for their money back as they paid a fortune (hundreds of pounds) for 24 hrs service. They missed out on seeing the other grandparents and us for Christmas. Not fit for purpose, taking 4 days.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx11 -
Heather: Hooray! The test results for your son & family are negative. YAYYYY!
I bought vitamins at Walmart this morning. I have a bit of sticker shock. The good news is that we will use them.

Well just had an awesome meal with Trudy...and relaxing watching tv,did my PT early..9
-
good things that happened in 2020:
-we have been able to save away some money. Always a good feeling, especially now with COVID
-I have gotten a handle on my Lichen Sclerosis, its just something that I used to have now.
-I found fasting, and though I don't do it 24/7, I do have fasting days, and it makes me feel better.
-Husband and I enjoy our live together, and I thank my lucky stars, every week I fill his pill container.
-My pen pals and I have continued to bounce life off each other, the good, the bad and the ugly. I have seen a couple of my pals go thru breakups, and surgeries. So our friendships are running a bit deeper.
Though I don't have a gratitude journal I do think about all my blessings, and that is what keeps me sane. From the re-evaluation (weekly) of how my communication is going between my sons, to my need to always "check in" with family members. That has to do with how I communicated with my own family when we were active Navy. We left the fold, so we checked in. Though there isn't the parental check in, I still feel the need. So I am the one that contacts my sisters, my sons, and I have to be ok with that. There are those days when I miss my mom calling me and asking "How are you Becky"? Phew, just typing that phrase makes me tear up.
So I check in with you all, and settle myself.
Had 3 pieces of fish today, with homemade tarter sauce. I might have some of my husband's hamburger helper tonight.
I have been running 18/6 on my fasting. 18 hours fasting, and 6 hour eating window. Choices have been ok.
Hugs,
Rebecca

I'm just trying to make it to January 5, 2021 for now. Short term goals for the time being.
It's raining here today, off and on. So far, we've gotten over .3 inches since midnight. That is significant for us. It's windy and there is most certainly more to come. I like watching the rain, because we just don't get much of it. I can do without the strong winds.
There isn't much positive to say about 2020. I can't even say "at least I have my health." I can be thankful that most of my family is healthy. We have managed to stay financially stable throughout. But there were far more hardships than happiness in 2020.

Vitamins aren't cheap huh! We get ours at Rite Aid, and do the buy one get one free thing. We go thru Calcium carbonate fast because Lee takes it 3 times a day. We both are on the same multi-vitamin so that's nice, and also the Calcium with a D3 thing. He also take Vitamin E, magnesium, baby asprin, and the rest are prescriptions. Did I state I AM PILL QUEEN... hahaha.

Ha! I read "Calcium carbonate fast" as a new kind of diet fast. Maybe I need a nap!!
I appreciate you, Rebecca!

Exercised today then came home to have breakfast then went to Aldi. Work tomorrow
We went to FL this Feb and to the restaurant “Left Turn” with friends, that was before all this covid stuff. This, to me, was a really neat restaurant. This is where the left turn was when they Daytona drivers used to race on the beach. Lots of memorabilia. OK, not exactly cheap. But great ambiance. Also, this year we saved money on less driving so less gas
Gained a bit of weight this holiday season but I’m on the way to losing it
SuziQ – what I’m doing right now about my foot is I am on it without the boot for a few hours then sit down and put my foot up. I’m hoping that it was just that I overdid it on Christmas Eve and just need to gradually get rid of the boot.
Debbie VA – (((HUGS)))) My heart goes out to you about your daughter
Went to the bowling alley. I think next week I’ll try bowling. Mahjongg tonight I’m wondering why I couldn’t use the recumbent bike after Jess and Colby leave? Not intensely, but just something to get back to the swing of things
Allie – sounds like you are really doing well. Keep it up!
How I miss aerobic exercise! Hopefully, I’ll be able to get back to it.
Heather – phew!!!
Fae – where are you?

Rebecca: Vitamins are not cheap, but they are good for our health. In addition to vitamins, I also bought other over the counter medicine and some dog treats.
I am reading a book by a favorite author and enjoying it. The author is Robyn Carr, and I’ve been reading her books for many years. This one is set in Northern California, in a fictional place called Virgin River. I like it as well as the rest of the books in this series.

Julie-the 3 inches in height difference does impact things some (for some reason I was thinking you are taller than me!). Some of the ladies on here pointed out that BMI as we age is viewed differently. Yes, my BMI is @23 most days. My doctor prefers it doesn’t drop much more-I guess as we age we need a bit of body fat. However, how you feel is important and I know just 5 pounds can change that. Just don’t want you to beat yourself up! As the pandemic winds down and life returns to something like normal and you are walking as you did before I am sure you will get back to where you are more comfortable. Congrats on tracking three days in a row-I really think that helps.
SuziQ-don’t know if is that I am handy or spent so many years married to a cheap man! Plus, we always thought when money was tight, we would fix what we could. (since we saved money then, I don’t mind paying for getting some things done now!)
Allie-your progress sounds good, and a bit speedy given what you have been through (even though I am sure to you it is slow as molasses).
Good for the year/accomplishments
-Interior doors replaced (haven’t painted them yet)
-DIL seems to have recovered from Covid with no long term side effects
-While several staff have had Covid and two have been hospitalized, no one has passed from it (220 staff)
-Maintained my weight
-Got some stuff cleaned out (more to go)
-Maintained contact with ladies group at church which provides good support
-Kept up with this group for the most part!
-Have not gone into complete isolation even though I live alone
-Contacted social security today (realized last month I did hit full retirement age of 66) and I can, indeed, draw my husbands social security while I am working with no income restrictions. Official on-line application is in February, but it will retro back to November.
As long as we are here, have a tremendous gift.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

As we're getting closer to the end of 2020, I'll ask this question ...
What are some of your highlights of 2020?
Good things. Happy things. Accomplishments.- Kept my promise to myself that I would maintain my hard won weight loss.
- Managed to decrease my %age body fat and increase my %age muscle mass.
- Wrote a considerable portion of my memoir as a birthday gift for DEGS
- wrote numerous poems, painted some pictures, made all my own Christmas cards.
- Managed to stay safe and sane through the covid Glitter
☘️ Terri

Highlights and Accomplishments from 2020
⁃ I think one of the biggest highlights for me is how well Rodger and I have gotten through this year being more on top of one another than we are used to. I have found myself very stressed throughout different stages of the year and he’s been my rock throughout.
⁃ I’m incredibly proud of how my eldest daughter has handled this year. She has always struggled and doubted her parenting skills. She has shone through this.
⁃ My youngest daughter and her husband have a new house and a new puppy.
⁃ My Mom has stayed safe.
⁃ Even though we couldn’t see each other as often as we normally would I think the visits we did have were even more cherished and meaningful.
Susie - the song at my Dad’s funeral sort of described how happy our loved ones are waiting for us to join them. One of the lines is “I’ll be sitting drawing pictures in the sand”.
Kelly - what a wonderful face to get a call from.
Heather - so happy your son’s family is negative. If they paid extra for 24 hour results they should receive something back. We don’t pay for them here and there is no way of getting results faster than someone else unless you are in hospital or work in healthcare and are showing symptoms. Even our prevalence screening each week is not rushed. We get our results 2-4 days after the test.
Rebecca - I teared up reading about your post of hearing from your Mom. We moved away and it became our responsibility to be the one to keep in contact except for my Dad. He called me weekly. For many, many years on Saturday nights because the phone company had a 2.00 talk as long as you want deal those nights. Once I had unlimited long distance he would call me even more, he would let the phone ring twice so the number displayed and then I would call him back. I miss our chats, and other than my best friend no one calls now. I do all of the checking in, so I know how you feel about the family. My heart hurts for you about your son not calling though. You are handling it much better than I would I think.
Katla - is the book series Virgin River what the Netflix Series is based on?
Terri - you have worked so hard at keeping your weight off and it’s worked. Congratulations.
I went and borrowed my eldest daughter’s sewing machine and took a lot of her scraps today. I have to make 6 mattresses, 6 pillows and 6 blankets for a birthday present for Michaela. Rodger is making her two bunk bed sets, each three beds high, for her babies. She has 6 and doesn’t think they should share a bed. She has been using the stairs but with her mother having fall issues this is not safe.
I bought flannel and quilt batting today and will try to get them completed by Saturday. It may end up being my New Year’s Day project.
I am doing some laundry now and should have started it much earlier in the day. It may not all get done tonight. I have enough clothes for 3 days of work so I’m fine if it doesn’t get finished.
