    Good morning ladies -

I was on Sumatriptan for a period of time to tame my migraines. After menopause, the migraines eventually went away. I only had "aura" a few times, it was mostly intense pain, sensitivity to light and sound and nausea. Glad those days are gone.

I ran across this article last week regarding migraine relief - a Randomized Control Trial which showed ice packs applied to the neck/carotid artery for 30 minutes significantly reduced migraine pain in the majority of individuals. From what I could determine from reading the article, it was a small study and follow-up for long term relief wasn't addressed. So did the cold therapy derail the migraine or just postpone it? Looks like it was effective for some folks an hour after the pain diminished.

If I had a migraine these days, I'd be willing to try even if there's only a 10% chance. Here's the study-

    Good morning ladies!

Yes migraine drugs are tricky. The first prescription I had for them actually had more migraines as a side effect. And I got more. I always had the best results with a large dose of caffeine taken immediately when the migraine starts. I get the aura, which can render me blind for thirty minutes or so before the pain starts. But I haven't had many lately thank goodness.

Meanwhile I lost almost a pound this week. Yay! I'm starting the 160's which is significant to me as my clothes will be looser again. You were right about that one pork chop not being the end of the program. And I lost an inch from my hips. Yay!

Today will be a slow day. I have to go to the bank, and the pharmacy, and write an email to a friend whose birthday is tomorrow. And yoga and aerobic walking.

Have a great day my friends!

Did Kathy smith Power Step DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do Les Mills Strength DVD. After exercise came hme and did the first load of laundry. It’s in the dryer right now so after it comes out, I’ll go by the pool. This afternoon we’ll go to WalMart so I can return one item and Vince can fill up on gas. Then we need to stop at Publix to get a shrimp tray for the pool party tomorrow. I know that shrimp trays always go over with Newcomers so I think it’ll go over here.

Karen – it’s amazing the side effects of medicines! Sounds promising. Do you ever play mahjongg online? If so, how great it would be to play together! Down here is the only time I get to play hand & foot, haven’t played bunco in years but enjoyed it when I did. I remember years ago FIL said “I’m so busy now that I’m retired, where did I ever find the time to work?”. And I remember thinking
yea, sure” Now I know what he meant!!!

    katla – where are you?????

    Annie DE – good going!

    M – good news, indeed

Off to get the laundry and then the pool

Michele who is sad that the weather doesn’t look that good for Sunday

Trying a small patch of corn which I haven't grown in the last couple of years as a bear had been coming in and harvesting it before I could get to it. Haven't seen signs of a bear last year so hoping it has moved out of our area.

    Enjoy your day everyone.

I've never grown corn, but have been thinking about giving it a go next year. I hope you get a harvest!

if you do plant corn, dad always said to not plant in a row but better to plant in a block-attracts more bees that way.

OK, that might change the location where I was thinking of putting it. Thanks!

when we were growing up, we planted almost an acre of corn. It did great.
Years after that when it was just mom and dad at home, dad planted some but in a few longer rows . It didn't do very well.
Mom may plant some this year-not sure what she has planned. May also plant popcorn again as we didn't plant any last year and the year before was when I planted rows of regular corn, popcorn, green beans,etc- and she forgot to water them. Nothing grew in the front garden that year but that was the summer after dad passed away.
Working on getting things going a little earlier this year, but again, it is on her, not me. Not going to be accused of pushing her to do stuff she isn't ready for(even though it is time-won't get a harvest if it isn't planted when it is supposed to)

    1. Set an intention to live with awareness and kindness. I intend to live with more awareness and kindness every day.
    2. Notice three things you find beautiful in the outside world. The blue water of Lea Lake, Snow on the mountains at a distance, walking a nature trail. All at Bottomless Lakes State Park.
    3. Start today by appreciating your body and that you are alive. I am healthy and above ground. I can walk, talk, hear, see, taste, and smell (mostly). I appreciate that I alive and have a healthy body.
    4. Notice how you speak to yourself and choose to use kind words. I will try…
    5. Bring to mind people you care about and send love to them. I sent texts to my long distance friends to send them love.
    6. Have a ‘no plans’ day and notice how that feels. Most days are like that for me. So much less stress!
    7. Take three calm breaths at regular intervals during your day. Sounds like a plan.
    8. Eat mindfully. Appreciate the taste, texture and smell of your food. Started at breakfast.
    9. Take a full breath in and out before you reply to others. I will need to keep this in the front of my mind all day.
    10. Get outside and notice how the weather feels on your face. Every day!
    11. Stay fully present while drinking your cup of tea or coffee. In the process of doing that right now!
    12. Listen deeply to someone and really hear what they are saying. I will have to really try to get this done today.
    13. Pause to watch the sky or clouds for a few minutes today. I love doing this!
    14. Find ways to enjoy any chores or tasks that you do. I made a necessary task to go for a liver scan enjoyable by buying lunch for myself for a change.
    15. Stop. Breathe. Notice. Repeat regularly. I really need to do this today! Didn’t remember to do this.
    16. Get really absorbed with an interesting or creative activity. I have stones to paint. Will be distributing along the trails in exchange for free peddle boat and paddle board rentals. Didn’t do this. Too windy out. I colored instead.
    17. Look around and spot three thing you find unusual or pleasant. Will do. 1. Lady wanting us to cut a lock off of her propane tank.
    18. If you find yourself rushing, make an effort to slow down.
    19. Appreciate nature around you wherever you are.
    20. Focus on what makes you and others happy today.
    21. Listen to a piece of music without doing anything else.
    22. Notice something that is going well, even if today feels difficult.
    23. Tune into your feelings, without judging or trying to change them.
    24. Appreciate your hands and all the things they enable you to do.
    25. Focus your attention on the good things you take for granted.
    26. Choose too spend less times looking at screens today.
    27. Cultivate a feeling of loving-kindness towards others today.
    28. Notice when you are tired and take a break as soon as possible.
    29. Choose a different route today and see what you notice.
    30. Mentally scan your body and notice what you are feeling.
    31. Discover the joy in the simple things of life.

    Oh ... good news ...

The results are back: No Pasteurella multocida bacteria from the bite. 🙂

    Well done hand sanitiser!

So good to hear that! It certainly looked infected.

As for corn, I always plant in short rows (usually 3) and have had good results.

Should have added that rows need to be close together....I plant about 2 feet apart.

    Carol in GA

She really wants the garden and enjoys it but just has a problem with time management/procrastination.
The green house should have been planted by first of Feb, middle at the latest and she hasn't even ordered the soil that we use yet. Not sure if she has even ordered the seeds we will need.
My nephew is coming out next month to work the ground. This time they have already signed up to rent the tractor. Last year he came out and the place didn't have any available because she didn't sign up early enough.
The garden will be smaller than it used to be by half(if she plants the whole front garden along with all the raised beds.)
She has mentioned planting and having a "U-Pick" sign out front and make a little money to help pay for the garden. Not sure if she will. One time she says no, then yes.
If the neighbors that have said they will come help, actually do come and help, it would work out perfectly but they don't and she gets irritated, rightfully so. Don't promise if you aren't going to do it.

Karen I use a tens unit for my migraine headaches. It works well and gets rid of wrinkles. I have been using it since September 2nd. I have only had a couple of migraines at the beginning but now I am completely migraine free and virtually wrinkle free as a nice side effect. It also helps with the pain in my shoulder.

Lanette your chickens already sound like fun!

Rori so sorry the Covid came around again. Hope you feel better soon.

I would be doing yoga but my dad painted the basement steps. I could get by but Teddy would follow. Dogs and wet paint don't mix. So I am still having a lazy day. Exercise tonight.

I have leftover pork chop for my parents' dinner. I think I will slice it thin and then put barbecue sauce on it. I hope the sauce is not too strong for my parents.

    Have a great day ladies!

cooked two large filets of salmon yesterday- Safeway has it on sale for $4.88 a pound this week. One we got was regularly $66 and we got it for $18.50. The other was almost as big. We all enjoyed it EXCEPT- MIL. Of course, because I cooked it, she wouldn't even try it. Have extra so dropping some off with my friend along with some of the corned beef I cooked yesterday for tonight. It is maddening about MIL because I know she really likes salmon. On Thanksgiving we were at our friends(ones I am sharing with) and we had salmon, took some to MIL and she insisted on giving them a gift card and cash as a thank you to the tune of almost $50. But now when I cook it, she won't even try it.
Dh is going to be gone for the weekend so I get MIL duty. I will only be going in the afternoon's. She can do her own breakfasts like she should have been doing for the past 5 months instead of dh going over every morning and night. He told me not to say anything if she doesn't eat what I take. I told him I will not walk in with an attitude but won't sit and take hers. He is worried about her giving his a hard time when he gets back if I do say anything. I am tired of her being allowed to get away with this, just to make it easier on HIM. She told him she wants me to just cook tv dinners for her. She would rather eat that than a home cooked meal. What ever. I will go, warm up her dinner, give her her pills and feed the dog and then I am done. She can wash her own few dishes. He does the dishes there but not one here at home.

Safeway has whole roasted chickens for $5 today for $5 Friday. Got two, already boned them out, made some chicken salad for tomorrow or Sunday. Plenty of left overs for the whole weekend for son,his girlfriend and I.
Have a few things I want to get done- a little decluttering, put winter decorations away and get spring ones out. Ezie said winter is over so put the snowflakes away.
Also need to clean out the fridges and maybe part of the big freezer.

    Church on Sunday.
No other plans except HOPEFULLY sleep in a little bit each day.

Weather should be nice again tomorrow- 66 for a high today. Only 25% chance of rain tomorrow.
    Rain Sunday again.

Welcome newbies and returnees! (((hugs))) to those who need them.

Again Heather, I am SO jealous of your coastal SPRING! I'd give just about anything for a glimpse of green right now. (and not St Patrick's Day green, thank you! lol)
OMGosh! I would LOVE being a zookeeper! Being that close to a lemur. I'd just die. I would. I don't know about the snake though. I actually held one just like that YEARS ago, but I think there was alcohol involved.

You're looking just beautiful Machka! And the background looks gorgeous too. Glad about your good bite news.

    Awe... Happy Birthday Carmine!

It just breaks my heart any time a LEO is injured or killed. I'm so sorry for the loss in Edmonton. We had a horrible accident just the other morning when an officer was just finishing a traffic stop and pulling back onto the highway and got clipped by a semi that hadn't pulled into the center lane. It's the law here, but apparently they weren't obeying that law, that morning. Officer had to be extricated and he's still in critical condition. And he's only 22 years old.

Happy St Patrick's Day Terri and everyone! Freddy's making our corned beef and cabbage right now and the house smells heavenly!

    17. Look around and spot three things you find unusual or pleasant... you mean besides everyone in green? Well, sunshine for a change! Blue sky and generally happy people. (I think that might have something to do with the flowing green stuff today)
