    Machka,

This doesn’t look too too hard:

That might work, but ours are in pots, not in rows.

You have a green thumb for raspberries. I am envious, although dealing with the pickers would be onerous. I adore raspberries - my very favoritist berry.

An arbor over your walkway would work but would be pricey.

Thank you, but so far all I have are vines and leaves ... and the prickly bits. We've not been able to produce raspberries yet! I've got to figure out what's wrong.

    I love them too ... I just wish they'd produce a crop!

    How old are your plants?
Hope you get a crop next summer.
I had one pot that wasn't producing, just getting a big plant. I pruned it back and all of a sudden what was left was starting to bloom. Not sure if that is what was wrong but glad it produced.
Mine are just starting to show a little green leaves on some of them. Looking forward to fresh berries. Many mornings I go out with my cup of tea and enjoy berries and tea right in the front yard.
I do need to keep up on keeping them tied up so they don't block the walkway.

Was great to be able to sleep in FINALLY this morning. Dh is out of town for the weekend, son went to work at 5:30-heard him but went right back to sleep until 9!
Have some things I should do but I have all weekend to do them.
Have to go over at 4 to feed MIL and her dog.(tomorrow too)

Made myself corned beef hash last night then made more for son and his girlfriend when they got back > a little later than I would have liked but it is for my kid and I knew I could sleep in this morning.
Turned out so good. I love corned beef, dh doesn't care for it. I cook it in the pressure cooker for 90min. refrigerate it over night and then slice it thin. I will have more this evening. I had the potatoes already baked so just diced them up, fried them crisp then added 3oz of corned beef. I could have eaten a second helping of it but only made one which is a good thing. I will have a big salad to go with the meat tonight.
Leftover options for today and tomorrow for son and I are salmon, corned beef, roasted chicken(Safeway had them for $5 yesterday so boned them out and ready to go). I will see if son wants brown rice or mashed potatoes with the salmon, along with the salad. DH doesn't like brown rice but son and I do. DH has to have Japanese sticky rice which I don't care for unless I cover it with furikake.

Tomorrow will go to church unless it is raining too much.
Have a mystery shop to do for lunch-nice bonus added to it which is always nice. Paid to get lunch and this is an easier one, drive thru.
    Then take care of MIL.

Rebecca I still put honey in my tea and on my oatmeal. I use stevia with my yogurt, but tea has to taste like honey for me. It's my guilty pleasure. That and my daily chocolate! As long as I count the calories, I figure a little bit is worth it.

Another misty morning, but some sunny periods later.

It’s Mothering Sunday in UK tomorrow so will be having a family day.

Machka: Raspberries fruit on the new growth, so you need to cut the canes back after fruiting, and keep only the strongest canes.
Rebecca: Glad you got some answers and advice from your therapist.
Rori: Commiserations on getting glittered again.
Karen: We just don’t know what is ahead, so make the best if whatever comes. I hope a med change does the trick for your wife.

    Intentions for March:
🔹Maintain weight < 140 (I have managed to stay at the lower end off the 140s)
    🔹Continue with Solid Habit development

    Intentions for today:
    📍Solid habits✔️
    📍general chores✔️
📍Local shops for fresh produce ✔️
    📍work on crochet —>
    📍work on A/cs and prep for groups✔️

It’s occurred to me that I’m very much a creature of habit in so many ways. It does simplify staying on maintenance considerably.

Virtual (((hugs))) and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for all those those who need them.

🙋‍♀️ Miele failte to the newbies.

    ☘️ Terri

    March Action for Happiness:
    1. Set an intention to live with awareness and kindness. I intend to live with awareness and kindness
    2. Notice three things you find beautiful in the outside world.Trees silhouetted against the sky; the appearance of snowdrops in spring; the sound of waves breaking on the shore.
    3. Start today by appreciating your body and that you are alive. I meditate on this each morning when I wake up, and am grateful for each new opportunity to have a good day.
    4. Notice how you speak to yourself and choose to use kind words. Positive affirmations are very powerful. Be kind to yourself, always.
    5. Bring to mind people you care about and send love to them. We chatted with our girls about other family members, and raised a glass to them.
    6. Have a ‘no plans’ day and notice how that feels. I will do this tomorrow (7th)
    7. Take three calm breaths at regular intervals during your day.Resisting the temptation to plan my day. Serendipity reigns today.
    8. Eat mindfully. Appreciate the taste, texture and email of your food. ✔️
    9. Take a full breath in and out before you reply to others. I’m a great advocate of deep breathing, and find this works well.
    10. Get outside and notice how the weather feels on your face.I wasn’t looking forward to going outside this morning as we had snow overnight and it seemed very cold. However, the sun shone in a clear blue sky, and the wind had dropped right down again, and I spent time with my eyes closed feeling the heat on my face before I went into the centre for Latin Study.
    11. Stay fully present while drinking your cup of tea or coffee. Always! Gives me calm thinking time.
    12. Listen deeply to someone and really hear what they are saying. When I tried to do this with DH this morning, he got distracted by a discussion on What the Papers Say on TV. 😝 However, we often have in-depth discussions, usually over lunc and dinner.
    13. Pause to watch the sky or clouds for a few minutes today. The sun was valiantly trying to break through rain clouds just after sunrise, but the forecast is for heavy showers, but I’m watching the blue patches in hope that it clears up.
    14. Find ways to enjoy any chores or tasks that you do.Doing the task isn’t the problem 😝 It’s getting started that’s difficult. I sometimes put on my favourite music, or listen to a podcast.
    15. Stop. Breathe. Notice. Repeat regularly. Having coffee after putting away the week’s groceries. There is pink blossom on my prunus purpurea, magnolia buds are beginning to colour up, tulips and daffodils in the containers outside the window are beginning to bloom. There are lots of little birds flitting about in the trees. Spring is doing its best to banish the winter cold. This is a regular joy in my life.
    16. Get really absorbed with an interesting or creative activity. I am preparing some paintings for a display of my Monday Painters work
    17. Look around and spot three thing you find unusual or pleasant.Today it is more like autumn tha spring. There is a thick sea mist. My usual view of countryside is reduced to about 500 yards. Everything looks damp and grey.
    18. If you find yourself rushing, make an effort to slow down. Took things slow and easy today. Planning to do the same tomorrow as it’s Mother’s Day in UK.
    19. Appreciate nature around you wherever you are.
    20. Focus on what makes you and others happy today.
    21. Listen to a piece of music without doing anything else.
    22. Notice something that is going well, even if today feels difficult.
    23. Tune into your feelings, without judging or trying to change them.
    24. Appreciate your hands and all the things they enable you to do.
25 Focus your attention on the good things you take for granted.
    26. Choose too spend less times looking at screens today.
    27. Cultivate a feeling of loving-kindness towards others today.
    28. Notice when you are tired and take a break as soon as possible.
    29. Choose a different route today and see
    what you notice.
    30. Mentally scan your body and notice what you are feeling.
    31. Discover the joy in the simple things of life.

    Good evening ladies!

I just did my dumbbells Yay! And I rode the bike for twenty minutes today Yay!

I ate 1104 calories today, for a deficit of 386. I was hungry. Likely I was just bored because I know this diet is enough food for me.

Did Les Mills Strength DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Denise Austin Yoga DVD. After exercise bought gas then returned one thing to Aldi. Walked to Wynn Dixie to take the recyclable plastic bags and stopped at Dollar general to get PopTarts for Vince for breakfast. He said that he needs them, I think he has enough Cheerios but whatever

They had a pool party at the condo. Basically, it was more of a social, no body was in the pool. It was just held at the pool area. But it was nice to go. Played cards tonight and we just called it ¾ of the way thru, we were so far ahead. Plus….it was getting late (for some people...lol)

Cleaned the bathtub (I’ll take a shower before we go), cleaned the toilets and sinks. Trying not to have to do all the cleaning tomorrow

Everyone celebrating Mother’s Day tomorrow...have a great time

Karen and m – BIG HUG

Karen – I do hope your wife’s children come to visit

Carol – good luck getting the tooth taken care of. Be sure to take care of yourself, too

Carla – I have a friend who does substitute teaching and she always makes pizzelles for her students. She's known as “the pizzelle lady”. She loves the name

Mary – glad you are able to use your kettlebell. I know you missed it

I am usually not a procrastinator, but when I am, that’s a definite sign that I really don’t want to do something

Another question… Anyone know of a website or App where you can put in all your meds and supplements to look for common side effects and/or problems with the combination? I used to have an insurance company that did that for you but can’t seem to find where to do that anymore.

This is one I use quite frequently. I think I've got its app on my phone too.

This is another one I double-check with.
    https://www.rxlist.com/
    https://www.rxlist.com/drug-interaction-checker.htm

I see that some others have interaction checkers

I've been impressed with Medscape's medical information:
    https://reference.medscape.com/drug-interactionchecker

I see that WebMD has an interaction checker too.
    https://www.webmd.com/interaction-checker/default.htm

You can also just Google 'drug interactions' or Google two medications and you'll get those two sites above and several others.

I think they've just been through their 3rd summer, although it might be 2nd summer for some of them. We almost lost the first couple through inadequate watering, then my husband pruned them at the wrong time because he is not familiar with raspberries. This summer they've finally reached a height I am familiar with.

Sometimes "a problem with time management/procrastination" is a sign that a person doesn't really want to do something. Voice of experience ... if I'm procrastinating, I am not overly enthusiastic about doing something.

It's obviously way too much for her to handle on her own and she has no consistent help that she can count on. There's a good chance she feels overwhelmed by it all.

Does she need the garden to make money or save money?

Is she keeping the garden out of a sense of duty to her husband/your father ... or to you?

Is there something else she would prefer to do? You mentioned that she's doing some things differently now that your father is gone.

Can you ask her if she didn't plant the garden, or only planted a very small garden, what she would really like to do with her time? Maybe she would like to travel or take an art class or something.

    Just a few thoughts. :)

    Machka in Oz

    YES, she really is overwhelmed!!
She really loves having the garden and wants to do it. She enjoys it and LOVES to share with others, especially older friends who don't have gardens.
She is just starting to realize that she can't do it all. She will be 80 in a few months. She doesn't have the energy she used to have.
She has the chickens so has to be there to let them out/lock them up every day. If they are not locked up, the critters will get them. Dad forgot to lock them up one night and lost half the flock when a bobcat got in and killed them.
She stays busy. Besides home, she is involved with church. Is there Sunday and Wed plus every Saturday morning she helps with the food bank food program at the church(up at 4AM to be in town by 5:30 to help set up)
Does she need the money from the garden? She doesnt have to have it to survive but it would be great to have a little more money coming in so she can not worry about it so much. She knows she has to be cautious about what she spends and make choices. Not buying things she really doesn't need or changing her options(like buying the small little mower/tractor instead of a full size one that was at least 4 times the price and would only get used a few times a year)
The biggest thing is being disappointed by so many that say they will help but are too busy or what ever.

    Debbie

Unfortunately, without contracts etc., we can't count on other people. Everyone has their own lives and their own priorities.

I really don't like doing things where I have to depend on other people.

I hated group work in university and all the other courses I've taken. Love taking courses. Love learning things, but the moment I discovered that the instructor included group work, my heart would sink.

She may need to downsize to something she can handle on her own.

I just wonder what her answer would be to the question: If you could live wherever and do whatever you want, what would that be?

I looked up the vaccine I had yesterday. Boostrix: diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis (whooping cough). I am set for 10 years!

But headache, tiredness, body aches, sore joints and nausea are common side effects ... which I am experiencing.

    16. Get really absorbed with an interesting or creative activity.

I've been colouring these days because I'm not allowed to do much more. Fortunately, I enjoy colouring. :)

I've also been putting away laundry and rearranging a closet.

    18. Have a 'no plans' day and notice how that feels or If you find yourself rushing, make an effort to slow down.

Today, I casually worked my way through part of the garden, catching up on some of the weeding.

Tracey-I think we all can get stuck in things from youth and not realize it. I was talking to my SIL about the males and long hair. She is very much against it-men should dress like men and women like women. I asked her why she doesn't wear dresses. There was silence. I asked her if she remembered all of the turmoil when we were in school-females couldn't wear pants. It wasn't that long ago! At a church youth group I went to, one of the boys dared me to wear pants and said he would wear a skirt if I did-we met each other's challenge and agreed each other's dress was really ok.

Allie-your cousin and Aunt look like fun! Definitely get the swelling checked, while they don't think you need to be on transplant list it doesn't mean there might not be an issue between you heart and kidneys. Also, perhaps the air travel added to the swelling?

Lanette-shoulder feeling much better so far. Iced it a few times yesterday-will do same today. I am thinking I must have hit it on a door jam or some such (maybe on midnight potty break?). I am not always fully awake when doing such things.

Debbie-good luck to your mom in figuring out what she wants. Realizing we can't do quite as much as we once did is tough but we need to come up with our own solutions. It is disappointing that the help never shows up. It has made me cautious to promise such things.

Machka-Raspberries-I remember having to go into "the patch" and pick them for my grandmother. There may have been some paths once upon a time . . . but they tasted so good.

Terri-your mention of mists in the morning fit in with the picture I have always had of Ireland in my mind.

Rosemarie-I am looking at a couple of Independent Living communities. They are all inclusive-meals, utilities, housekeeping twice a month, etc. They will help with transportation, have planned activities. Unlike Karen's arrangement, they do not provide a continuum of care so when I would need memory or nursing care there would be another move. I am ok with that because I am not certain where my children would be living when that time comes (they may well be in different states than they are now).

Was a sloth yesterday-so fatigued. Read and researched some of the latest thyroid information in preparation for doctor visit. Decided it was too cold to walk outside. Towards evening when I went downstairs to get laundry out of dryer I rushed up stairs to go potty and it occurred to me to take one of my UTI tests-yep-that explains part of tiredness. Got started on the antibiotics for it. It has been close to 4 months since last one.

Going to hit Meijers this morning-just need a couple of things. Will try to get chores done today that I didn't do from couch! Slowly starts warming up after today.

    Take care all,

One of my first jobs was picking raspberries. I did it for at least 2 summers, maybe more.

My grandmother did it for the full season for many years, and when we visited her, she would bring me along for a few weeks each of the years I did it. My brother came with us the first year, but he didn't like it at all so didn't come again. I enjoyed it and it was better paying than the bits and pieces of work I did back at home.

It meant I could get some great new clothes for the next school year!! :)

This year I plan to plant berry bushes along the back fence line of my yard. KJ (Kelly)

Kelly - When we moved here to the house there were two large blackberry brambles in what is now the orchard. They had obviously been there for years. They were about 7 feet tall, and the bramble groups were about 20 feet deep and wide. The entire inner portion that got no sun was only the canes, with absolutely lethal thorns. Perhaps its the weather here, but they go absolutely wild. They made beautiful berries, but were taking over everything. Glad to see you having a couple of relaxing days.

Ginny - My school was the same. Until I was 14, girls weren't allowed to wear pants. Once we could, though, I never looked back!

Allie - Your family looks like fun! Glad you're having a good time.

Lanette - Thank you for the video! Maybe it will help me start using the resistance bands that I bought in a fit of optimism. I'll let you know. Keep us posted on the chickens--I still haven't convinced Corey that chickens would be a good thing, so I may have to build my chicken tractor by myself.

Rosemarie - It's good to see you posting again.

Corey's still sleeping, and it's 8 a.m. here. So glad to see him rest--hopefully he'll shake the last remnants of the bug he's trying to get over. Another wintry day today, only supposed to get up in the 40s. Still can't plant anything, it drops below freezing every night.

Egg and I are in the living room, me on my laptop and her on my heating pad. She will only sleep on it if it's off. Weirdo kitty.

Tomorrow I start the new biologic, and it's one pill a day, which I genuinely appreciate. I'm not a nurse, and never wanted to be one, but I have tremendous respect for them. Was really beginning to dread those weekly injections. The feeling as that needle punched through the skin was... disconcerting.

Time to go rustle up some breakfast.

    Love y'all,

Lanette I am also curious about resistance bands. I have a set of small loops that I use for a clamshell leg exercise, but otherwise I use dumbbells. I was always afraid the long bands would snap back and hurt me. I also feel like it's harder to get the range of motion consistent with a band. There is more resistance at one end of the exercise, and usually less resistance at the start of the range of motion, and it seems like that would affect the muscle building.

But the biggest factor is using things you like and will continue, in my humble opinion. So if you want a change, it might be just the ticket. And of course, caveat, I have no professional experience or certifications or anything. You might ask in the Fitness threads to get a more qualified opinion.

Rosemarie thank you for the encouragement about my deficits! I think it's an important metric.
