Joy my mom asked for navy bean soup today. I
bought the beans and some pork neck bones and a little ham. Also celery mushroom onion and carrot. I don't know exactly what she wants, but it ought to make a nice soup. I kinda wanted a ham hock, not sure if the neck bones will be much different.
Pip, good luck with Kirby's issues. Hope they find something to fix.
Katla, glad you have your things around you.
Rita, I miss the heat of Las Vegas. We used to do laundry by the pool, with music and frozen drinks with occasional plunges to cool off. Those were the days! Wishing you some relief!

So my soup plan is to start four hours early, and first soak the navy beans for two hours while I simmer the neck bones for two hours. Then assemble with veggies and simmer another two hours. Does that sound about right?

Annie, your soup sounds delicious. I love homemade soup. Made mine with leftover ham and various beans and lentils with carrots and celery along with chicken stock. It's +10 degrees celcius today so good day to have the oven on so will be putting on a beef roast.
Enjoying a cup of tea right now. DH is scarfing down an ice cream cone! He's 6 ft and slim....eats whatever he likes and stays in shape. I must admit I'm jealous sometimes. If I snacked the way he does, I would be so overweight.

We didn’t know he had arthritis at all, if the doc wouldn’t have told him we wouldn’t have known any different. Won’t know what he will recommend for anything that is wrong with him until after they do more tests on him. What will those tests be ? I dunno. What would they do for someone who has arthritis but doesn’t feel any pain, or for someone that didn’t even know he had it, lololol. We will c2 -

Not sure if it's enough time to soak the navy beans but maybe someone else has more insight. When I use the larger hard beans, I always soak overnight. For the soup I made, I just used the smaller soup mix that doesn't have the hard beans in it (mostly peas and various lentils) and then added some pinto beans that I had soaked overnight.

I was thinking the same. There is a quick method for preparing the beans. I think you bring them to a boil and then let them soak? It should be on the package.

That's wonderful, Katla. So happy you are creating a home. It sounds like your husband is making good progress, as well.

Choir was fab. Nothing like singing for clearing away cobwebs.
The Nepalese was average. We enjoyed the occasion, but the food was toned down. The staff were very eccentric . It was good to try, but we prefer the dining room.
V tired. An early night is in order. Lovely 😍

Well. I am now on vacation until August 1. I have a new position beginning July 1st and it is an 11 month instead of 12. I am using up as much of my PTO from the other contract, and then taking July as my 12th month off on the new contract. A little confusing, especially since I still need to respond to email and I have a zoom meeting tomorrow, but it's what I can get. It will take me a few days to relax. Hubby and I are going to get pedicures tomorrow for our trip.

Note to self: don’t wear black when bathing a cream colored dog. Too lazy to change

My mind is melting the the witch from Wizard of Oz! Hit 105 yesterday right now at 12:30 pm it is 103 and climbing. I know I’m in a desert 🌵 and this will stay for about a month. But the other 11 are great so will stick it out. Not commenting, too hot and crabby.

Rita - Am I remembering right your A/C was fixed? Whew!
Pip - So glad Kirby isn't in pain - sure hope they find the culprit with his bowel issues so he can get that taken care of.
Annie - Flea has a good point about the quick soak method for beans. I haven't cooked beans in my instant pot but that might be a speedy way too if you have one. Lately I make bean soups the lazy way since it's just for me and I only want a few servings: I used canned rinsed & drained beans. I get all the meat and veggies cooked, dump in the cooked beans, heat everything up and there ya go.

Lisa-sounds like Egg is a little spoiled. Also, somedays my cats just act weird for no reason.
Machka-I pretty much agree with your list of signs you're going to have a good day.
Pip-they may just try some pt for the buying discs if no pain. It is all a question of how they are bulging. I had two herniated cervical discs fused years ago. The pains horrible. Arthritis just seems to be something we all get as we age-keep moving! Bowel problems? Maybe a bit of diverticulitis? Can't remember his symptoms.
Heather-despite the rude awakening, you seem to have found a way to have a good day!
LeeAnn-good plan going on vacation before testing. My next scans are July 27, but I am not expecting treatment like your DH. You said this is a recurrence-do you mind sharing what type of cancer he has had? They are coming out with some amazing treatments. You have had a rough couple of years. Just keep doing what you are doing-try to watch calories (and no one is perfect all of the time) and move-and have fun with your husband! Always cherish time together.
Katla-so good to hear you are making the space your own!
Rita-I'm heading for heat this weekend. Chandler is starting the summer warm up!
Allie-too bad Carmine gave them such a hard time. I do think the made the right call in the three of them getting away. While I think they need to support Carmine, she/he has no right to try to hold them hostage either.
Too late for the bean discussion, but I haven't soaked navy beans over night ever. I have had good luck bringing to hard boiled for a bit (30 minutes or so) and then let simmer for an hour or so.
Well, the second place I looked at (a couple of months ago) beats out places I saw yesterday. It isn't that they are bad but they have next to no outside area-you can walk on the sidewalk. Also, they have a fairly heavy, older interior design in the common area. My preferred place is bright, lighter, has outside walking path through small woods and two fish ponds. Will keep an eye out since they are building new places even as I type-but I think I may have found it.
Bathroom closet cleaned! Off to get some other stuff taken care of before vacation.
Take care all,

The bowel issue is a result of his getting hit by a car while riding his bike home years ago. That his caused the central cord syndrome that he has. True, arthritis I think is just part of age,4 -
Good Evening, Scrolling through without time to take notes. This is the second time I have done a zoom meditation group with a group of ladies of all ages. There is also someone's home we can go to, but after working at The Cat House in the morning I am tired to go out. Maybe I should though while the evenings are light. I am also doing a meditation group through ADDA....the attention deficit disorder association. I think I am going to get into meditation. I relax with it. I need to give myself permission to relax. I feel I am suppose to be on edge all the time and this just isn't true.
One company wants to sell the disability van on consignment. Apparently this is a fairly new concept. It has been done with Antique cars I think. We would get more money with consignment I think. However, I am concerned about the insurance aspect of it. Is any one familar with the consignment of a vehicle for someone to sell?

Pip-thanks! I remember that now. While his side effect from it is pretty miserable, it could be much worse!1

They'll probably do the same thing for someone (like me) who feels pain with arthritis (like me) ... absolutely nothing!
I have strong anti-inflammatory pills I can take when the arthritis in my feet gets especially painful, but that's it. I don't like taking them very often.
My physiotherapists tell me to keep moving.

Hi,
I am 54 and finally got the motivation to try again. All it took was a hideous picture from the side which is now my before picture. One of my sons is getting married in November so that is a good motivation too. I have found that food prep is the key to my success. What are somethings that help you?

Good evening ladies!
Today I ate 1104 calories. Yay! And I did twenty minutes on the bike and then the dumbbells. Yay! My deficit is 382. Yay! It's day 5 of my sister challenge, and it's going great!
Welcome Pamela! My best tip is to make sure you eat enough protein and fiber so you feel full.
A wedding is excellent motivation. I will see my sister July 24, so I'm doing a sister challenge. I'm just trying extra hard to lose a bit before then.

I read this thread every morning while I eat my breakfast (exactly the same thing every day). I seek every opportunity to be active. I eat simple food that requires little preparation so I can minimize my need to think about food. I see this as a new life style, not a temporary fix. Take it one day at a time. and focus on the right actions rather than on the goal down the road.

Hey ladies,
If Carla left because of what I said, well I am sorry. I was just saying don't speak for me. I am a weirdo anyways, so when someone groups their thoughts with me, I usually say so. Please know I meant no ill will from what you posted Carla. I am a very trusting soul is all. My view of the world might surprise some, in that I see the good in most people. I try to meet a new person every single day.
I was a lazy slug today. Balanced the checkbook though. I defrosted some bean/kielbasa sausage/sausage ravioli chicken soup. It was delightful. Made husband some fried rice with cut up Chinese barbecued pork ends. I got my box I sent to myself. Loads of stickers, cards from the 1970's, my photo organizer, a new to me dark orange knitted sweater jacket with toggle buttons and a hood, more gnomes for my collection, my moms plates, and a bag or silverware.🙃😁
