I was thinking last night, how much longer am I going to be doing this MS ride. It’s hard because this is in September (this Saturday), then the 1/2 marathon in November. I have been paying so much attention to riding so when the ride is over, I have to jump right in and start running. Even though it’s 13.1 miles, I could probably do it without training if I had to but it would be nice to be semi prepared. I will still ride, that will never stop I don’t think but maybe this may be my last year, I dunno. It’s not the same riding virtually, no camaraderie with other riders, no cheering section, no deception pass scenery, no beer garden afterwards, no free food, I dunno.
Did 10 miles today, will do the same tomorrow, not ride on Friday, give the legs a break, then the big ride on Saturday. Last year I did 50 outside and 10 inside, we will see how I do that day. May start riding 4:30-5am10 -
Pip - a virtual ride certainly doesn't sound a lot of fun. Why is it still virtual?
Rebecca - How totally marvellous. What a cutie! Another person to love.
Night time. Fan on, windows open. It's supposed to get even hotter!
We have Max tomorrow from 12. He is able to come here on his own now. I'm planning hotdogs, pittas, and salad. Max only eats cucumber, and I will have homemade coleslaw instead of pitta.

A virtual ride is when you are doing the ride but you are physically not there at the actual location in Washington. So I could ride on my spin bike at home and ride for 60 miles, put on headphones and listen to music or watch a movie on my iPad or I ride outside by myself (which is what I will do) and do the miles outside here in Fresno CA3 -
Good evening from still-hot Arkansas... 96 degrees right now,
Heather, it looks like you're going to be heating up for the next few days in a row--as are we. This streak is supposed to finally break on Monday going into Tuesday, with our first all day rain in forever. As usual, I'll believe it when it gets here... We were under a thunderstorm watch until midnight last night, but as they often do, the weather system fizzled out at the Oklahoma border.
Rebecca - Congratulations on the birth of Eli! We've all been looking forward to seeing his debut, and so glad all are safe and healthy.
Did the sous chef thing, got everything ready for Corey to make three-cup chicken, all the mise-en-place done... which shows I've watched WAY too much food porn with him. I get the wisdom of having everything "put in place," cut up and ready to go, vegetables chopped, meat in the marinade.
For me, though, it's less that I'm helping him cook as that I'm helping make sure we eat between 6 and 6:30. If we wait much later than that, I have a miserable time trying to sleep. If he hasn't called in the next five minutes to say he's on the way, I'll need to get the rice started, as it takes 20 to 25 minutes, no matter what, and can be fully cooked well before the meat mixture without any issues with quality.
I also decided to put together a sort of mini-herb garden, picked up a basil plant, and am planting some of the fresh ginger I picked up. Also took half the green onion bundle and got them started in some water to grow our own. Prices are going up around here again, and these small things make a difference.
The water department guy stopped by, and it appears the leak is on their side of the meter, and at least partially on the neighbor's property (which reminds me that I need to text her to let her know). I'm just pleased that it's not on our side, it always seems to cost at least a thousand dollars for those kind of fixes.
Off to get the rice going. Hope you're having a great evening... or that you already did.
Much love from Arkansas,
Lisa

They were predicting snow here on Friday. Fortunately I think that forecast has changed to just cold rain.
And meanwhile today, Thursday, it's supposed to get to 20C!

Rebecca - congrats! Glad he arrived quickly and safely and all is well, he's a cutie. Happy Birthday Eli!<3
Heather - thank you for posting that Masala/peas/basmati/potatoes recipe. In my area they sell Tika Masala "simmering sauces". I think this weekend I'll throw together a lazy version of that recipe and use some of the sauce for flavoring. I need to pick up frozen peas. It will be a fun change from what I normally eat.

Good Wednesday evening stateside,
Was 96 degrees here today. Did shopping instead of walking. So we will call it a rest day. Did get SIL new sweatshirt for her birthday. I also picked up a sweatshirt that says "Life is better in the Great Smokey Mountains". DH now knows this is where I want to retire to. I absolutely love the mountains. Tennessee may be south enough to not have too long of a winter. I don't care for sand. Would love water, but if we retire here then my sister is only 3 hours from here on a lake in the mountains of south Carolina. I could then work part time at my favorite store. It may be a dream, but it is a doable one.....
Rebecca Congratulations! He is a beautiful boy!
Much love,

Rebecca, congrats! He is adorable.
Sorry to hear some are getting Covid. Hopefully everyone will have a speedy recovery.
Bit of sadness early this morning as our eldest cat passed away. We have had her for about 15 years. Rescued her as an adult cat so she has lived a full life but will be missed.
Had a frost here a couple of days and has certainly been cool. Picked all my tomatoes before and just storing them in the basement to ripen. DH started swathing the barley but had to quit a couple of days ago because of showers. Will be able to start again tomorrow. Hoping the weather cooperates and harvest doesn’t drag out. Every year is different. Sometimes we are finished by mid September and other years we are still combining past Thanksgiving in October.

Barbie - I hope Jake heals fast. It’s not fun being laid up.
Margaret - I took note of the book. I am going to see if my library has it. I am always appreciative of how well read you are and what you share.
So many on here read so much and share such great information. I really am grateful for it.
Lanette - I believe that we need to go back to some of the old farming ways. All of the processed food we eat is not healthy for any of us.
Heather - the house is beautiful. Imagine when it’s all done. I don’t envy your DIL having to live through that with children though.
Kylia - was it somber there due to Jimmy Buffet’s death? I always enjoyed his music.
Your pictures are wonderful. You look relaxed and you really need that.
Betsy - hugs to you, I hope your sister has good visits with her family.
Rebecca - 😂 your secret is safe with me. Like Lisa, I shared your letter. I read it to my husband and screenshot it to my youngest daughter.
Congratulation to the family on beautiful Eli.
Joy - I don’t believe that we are that far apart and yet we haven’t had frost yet. It sure felt like Fall for a couple of days though.
I had ceramics tonight, first time in three weeks. I am happy to have gone.
I have some homework to read, I worked on a craft project this afternoon instead of doing my homework so now I have to “pay the piper” as my grandmother always told me.

Meeting DED this morning to visit a sculpture exhibit and then have lunch.

Terri-I am not certain if pedicure spacers would work the same. The pedicure spacers I am familiar with are very thin form. These visibly spread my toes much more. Couldn't hurt to try though.
Kylia-thanks for sharing pictures-you two look like you are having a wonderful time.
Rebecca-Eli looks perfect! Congratulations to all!
Joy-sorry to hear about loss of your cat. My two are each 14 and while them seem healthy they have slowed down considerably-I figure they are now on borrowed time.
Meetings yesterday were good. To Columbus today for an organizational meeting for training next year. It is an enjoyable group. Then may use a little vacation on way home at casino. I enjoy it but am glad it is about an hour from me-not tempted to go too often!
Weather cooling off here today-it the 70s during the day and low 60s-50s overnight. Will open windows over weekend for the mornings if allergy stuff is down. Ragweed is really bad. Seems to bother me more each year.
Off to get ready for the day.
Take care all,

Here is the monthly list I use for you to copy if you’d like. Thank you Machka for posting the calendar. I always forget to post it in a format that works on here.
2023 Self-Care September 20231. Find time for self-care. It’s not selfish. It’s essential.
2. Notice the things you do well, however small.
I'm spending quite a bit of time relaxing this weekend. Self-care.
And what do I do well? I don't know ... the usual household things like the laundry I've done this weekend, working on my drystream, cycling, colouring.
3. Let go of self-criticism and speak to yourself kindly.
4. Plan a fun or relaxing activity and make time for it.
I'm not usually overly critical of myself but I will question myself, like "What are you doing?"
And today, I went for a long-ish walk at lunch then did some colouring at home after work.
5. Forgive yourself when things go wrong. Everyone makes mistakes.
And most of the time, mistakes can be fixed.
6. Focus on the basics: eat well, exercise, and go to bed on time.
All good except for the "go to bed on time" thing.
7. Give yourself permission to say ‘no’..
Getting better at that. I'm working my way through emails and unsubscribing!10. Be willing to share how you feel and and ask for help when needed.
11. Aim to be good enough, rather than perfect.
12. When you find things hard, remember it’s ok to not be ok.
13. Make time to do something you really enjoy.
14. Get active outside and give your mind and body a natural boost.
15. Be as kind to yourself as you would to a loved one.
16. If you’re busy, allow yourself to pause and take a break.
17. Find a caring calming phrase to use when you feel low.
18. Leave positive messages for yourself to see regularly.
19. No plans day. Make time to slow down and be kind to yourself.
20. Ask a trusted friends to tell you what strengths they see in you.
21. Notice what you are feeling without any judgement.
22. Enjoy photos from a time with happy memories.
23. Don’t compare how you feel inside to how others appear outside.
24. Take your time. Make space to just breathe and be still.
25. Let go of other people’s expectations of you.
26. Accept yourself and remember that your are worthy of love.
27. Avoid saying ‘I should’ and make time to do nothing.
28. Find a new way to use one of your strengths or talents.
29. Free up time by canceling any unnecessary plans.
30. Choose to see your mistakes as steps to help you learn.
31. Write down 3 things you appreciate about yourself.
32. Remind yourself you are enough, just as you are.

Kylia - Why not do it now? If that's what you want. Go for it now. Tomorrow is not promised. Live your heart's desire. Now.
DH and Max have been happily looking at Maths concepts, playing Risk, and now funny videos. DH wondered if Max wanted to do a jigsaw of the Periodic Table, which led to them listening to the song, 'The Elements ', by Tom Lehrer. Max decided against the jigsaw. My part was to provide food and beverages, and tell Max funny tales about our school days and being naughty in science lessons. .
I had an excellent morning writing about 'Art', and now I'm on my bed with the fan blowing, reading improving books.
Last night I did a good deed by helping G with her frustration and anger with her sister, who is visiting. This morning she was very grateful, and I hope she has been able to safely deliver her sister to her train. (She has to go with her up to and through London on the train, to the last one at St Pancras)
The gist of my response was, that we have to let people be themselves, we can't change them, however much we want to, they can't help it and are doing the best they know how. Just be glad you are not them.
It is also a good idea to limit your contact, which she will have to for her sanity. Just because you love someone, does not mean you have to spend time with them, to your own detriment.
I think G knows that.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Thanks ladies! After family, you were the next people I thought of to inform.💖🤗
So last night I talked to my eldest sister in video chat. Of course explaining my feelings, the joy hearing about Eli coming into the world, well I just broke down and cried. I don't know if its because I am tapering off my meds (Welbutrin) a bit, or just that she's my safe haven. I seem to always let my guard down when talking to her. It was needed I guess!

Rebecca - It's great to cry! I love a good cry of happiness and relief. Nothing better. You have been through so much this month. I rarely cry through sadness, hurt, or anger. I often cry from something sweet and touching, or relief.
