Last week felt like Autumn here, but this week…… Been in the 100’s again. But, looks like Monday it cools off again. I’ve had about enough of summer! Lol
Starting back to teaching my 6 week beginner computer class tonight. I’m going to have only about 5 people, but that’s ok. I can do one-on-one easier that way.
Allergies are still a bugger, but asthma is now under control with the new medicines. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to take that new med as it is over $200 for 45 days! Now only worried about kidney issue. Still haven’t heard from either nephrologist or cardiologist for appointments. Good news is the change in my blood pressure medication is working. My BP is gone down to normal levels again. In my opinion, all these medial issues came about because of a colitis attack. That can reek havoc with your immune system and I think the timing made it worse because of ragweed pollen season. But, I’m no doctor, but makes sense to me.
I am taking an AARP refresher class on driving. My insurance will give me a 20% discount if I have that class. Worth it to me as I get the money back the first month payment after the discount. It is good for 3 years before I need to take it again. This is the second time I take it. So no big deal, but a 4 hour computer class. Luckily, I can split it up. I’ve taken 4 days to finish it. Taking my time.
Updated: 26 Days dry, 30 minute morning walk 4 days in row, and weight is still going down slowly, but still going down! YAY ME!

Rebecca ... Congratulations! I think I see a little Athena in Eli ...
Santa ... I told my 11 year old son when he was starting to get teased at school for believing and when I was also pregnant with his younger brother (11 years apart). I was due Christmas and wasn't sure what I was going to be able to accomplish that year. Turns out I ended up on bedrest. Anyways, my oldest cried and cried until I reminded him that he could help me be Santa for at least another 8-10 years.
Carol ... identity and card theft are a pain! Glad you're not on the hook for anything.
Pip ... congratulations on becoming debt-free! It's the only way my husband and I were able to retire early.
I usually have no problems falling asleep and staying asleep, but have run into a jag of insomnia. It's left me very tired and subsequently I've become very weepy. Not thrilled about that as my healthy food intentions fly right out the window.

I looked up tapering off Welbutrin, and it isn't recommended to cut tablets, which is what I have Bern doing. But I figure, that its only said, because its hard to get even doses. I however have a pill cutter so I get even doses. I was on it only started 7-29 so not too long. I was on 1/2 pills for a week and now 1/2 pills every other day. I hope my doctor isn't too annoyed with me.
I do like crying!

Good morning ladies,
Got my morning walk in and then spent a lot of time down a rabbit hole watching an interview with James Nestor, author of "Breath", which some of us have read.
We've been discussing "The Blue Zones" and longevity. Nestor maintains one of the biggest keys to longevity is lung capacity, and just focusing on diet alone doesn't do it.
Which makes me wonder - Blue Zone's researcher Dan Buettner stresses diet, for sure, but also activity, like the sustained activity doing things outside, like walking long distances or doing physical labor like gardening, for example, which folks in the Blue Zones are doing. Activity our ancestors did for centuries. Is the secret to more activity and the positive effect on longevity actually due the increased lung functon it creates which benefits not only our circulatory systems, but other health and brain benefits we didn't realize were also positively impacted by proper nasal breathing?
If I'm sitting hunched over a laptop or in front of the TV for hours on end, then walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes or do a 20 minute walking video, does that spurt of exercise make up for my restricted breathing caused by sitting with bad posture for most of the rest of the day?
Or is it really better to be active more, all day long, (at least 10 minutes of standing movement for every hour of sitting or whatever the recommendation is) and use our lungs more?
The interview also goes into nasal breathing (our noses amp up nitric oxide which is a virus and bacteria killer, humming multiplies the effect) and stopping mouth breathing at night which contributes to sleep apnea, reduced sleep quality according to the research Nestor presents.
Anyhow, he covers LOTS more. Here's a link to the video:
And a link to Nestor's website - I focused on the bibliography page which cites research findings and more videos.

Rebecca--Great news on your new grandson. Beautiful little one.
Rita--Great on your updated stats.
Not a lot to say, hip and back are giving me a lot of pain. Went to Chiropractor and it helps, but still hurting. Taking it one day at a time.

While I lay on the bed upstairs, with the fan blowing, DH and Max shared videos of funny piano performances. The British amongst us will know Morecambe and Wise's Andrew Previn video very well, And Victoria Wood's, 'Let's Do It'. They also had fun with Victor Borgia. All on YouTube.
He was reluctant to go home, so I guess he had a good time!
DH told us about lots of amazing pranks he played when he was younger. One he hasn't told Max yet, but I hope he will, was inventing a fictitious pupil at his school where he was teaching, and sending the report form round for the teachers to fill in. They all did!
Max has his first day back at school tomorrow. It's just them and the first years. Instead of their school uniforms, because of the heatwave, they have been told they can wear their gym kit. How wonderfully sensible!
My favourite decluttering programme tonight. 'Sort Your Life Out'. Then 'Ambulance', another favourite of mine. Neither of those are DH'S pick, so I will watch them in the bedroom.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -
Good afternoon from Arkansas...
Beth - I'm sorry the insomnia is wreaking havoc with your food choices. The struggle is real, my dear. I've just been tracking my food again since Sunday, not trying to restrict, just observe, and yesterday was the only day I haven't stayed within my calories. Also the only day where I only slept three hours the night prior. Something in my brain says that food will make me feel better when I'm muzzy from lack of sleep, and it never works.
Have finally cooled down from a few hours of working in the yard, hauled two big loads of cut brush to the burn pit. Got my plants repotted, talked to my best friend, talked to Corey and got dinner settled (leftovers tonight, ham/cauliflower au gratin tomorrow), then I talked to my daughter and ate a little bit of lunch. Now a quick nap and then the next thing, whatever that may be. Probably try out my new vacuum, which finally arrived, and is charging up as we speak...
Later, y'all,

Worked for an hour or so decluttering the living room- another hour or more to go for that side(maybe not that long, but the other corner around my bike needs some work again).
Another day of drama with MIL- yelled at dh the other day, told him not to bring breakfast because she wouldn't eat it(and she didn't, he threw it away the next day which he should have just left it a few more days, let it pile up) so today, he didn't bring food and she threw a fit because he didn't bring her anything. Didn't get enough yelling at him there before he walked out so she called here to continue it-I didn't put him on the phone. Not going to have him even more worked up than he was. He gets loud, telling me what happened after messaging me the same thing- the louder he gets, the more I tune him out- I do not deal well with loud or cussing. She now wants to sign up for Meals on Wheels(I have tried to get her to agree to this for the past year)-She is not going to be happy with what they bring her but I want her to see for herself. She doesn't believe what we say anyways.
Getting ready to go walk the wetlands and enjoy an hour of peace and quiet to myself.
Walking with my Zumba friend tonight beings she missed class last night because she was stuck in traffic.
Have a wonderful Thursday ladies

Good afternoon ladies-
This morning I put together 2 more pints of Vitamin "G" - fermented honey & garlic. The fermented part will take place over the next few weeks.
The pint on the left is a year old, the pint on the right is today's. Supposed to be a potent immunity booster, cough syrup, throat soother, you name it. The aged garlic is very mild.
Here's a link if anyone feels like putting some together:
He talks about putting onions and garlic and honey together, I'm going to see what I can find on this.

Joy - I'm so sorry about your cat.
Lanette - I went outside my comfort zone enough to eat green onions and fresh basil in the three-cup chicken, but I'm not quite sure I'm ready for garlic and honey! My mama used to take one of the big, honking peppermint sticks and dissolve it in a partial bottle of Crown Royal whisky for the winter coughs and colds, and it was quite effective.
Kylia - I have to admit, I thought the same as Heather. What are you waiting for? The stresses you have now with your working situation seem like they are part of of, if not actually causing your health issues. Is there a way to just go ahead and go? Watching Tracey find her happiness again now that she's out of her working situation that was making her ill made me remember I "retired" three years earlier than planned because I was ill as well. I never regretted walking away. It's a risk, without doubt, but has been well worth it so far.
Katiebug - If you're wondering why I haven't posted about the spin mop, it's because it was delivered three days late, and I still haven't tried it! I have plans to pull up the rugs in the exercise room tomorrow and give the mop a test drive, though... I am reasonably happy with the new vacuum. It was charged up and usable after my shower, and worked as advertised. Do have to empty it frequently, but it picked up the cat hair and schmutz with no issues, and the emptying is very easy.
It's funny to me that, at this late stage, I've become domesticated. 👀I always did as little as possible for as long as possible in terms of housework, but I find myself actually enjoying the whole process these days. Possibly because I have time to think about it now, and am not always doing it just to get it done so I can get to something else.
I also send up regular apologies to my mother, who loved the gardening that I'm doing on a regular basis these days. She was always happiest in the yard, and I never understood that urge. I actually enjoy it now, and I would have replied that you were a bald-faced liar if you told me ten years ago that I would love weeding a flower bed someday.
Time to go put some leftovers together for some dinner.
Later, y'all,
Love,

10 years ago, I started with my organisation and an ergonomic assessor set me up at my desk. She went through a bunch of questions including one about how much I exercised daily. About 1 hour a day, I told her, and more on weekends.
Then she asked how much time I spent sitting.
Pretty much the rest of the time when I wasn't sleeping.
Then she told me about how that isn't healthy ... and I did more research on it too.
What's healthier is to keep active.
So I walk as part of my commute. I take the stairs in the morning and at lunch and other times throughout the day. I walk at lunch. I walk as part of my commute going home. I walk Rhody after work. And I get up during the evening and walk around the house.
I would put exercise at the top of the list for healthy aging. Exercise keeps you mobile and able to do things. It is great for stress relief and mental health. It aids the digestive system. So many benefits to exercise.
I also love my sit-stand desk and will stand for an hour or two each day.
M in Oz3 -
Tracey Actually it wasn't somber at all. I am relaxed. Still doing some work, but on my own timeliness. Otherwise I too will be paying the piper.
Allie I love the flowers.
Joy Sorry for the loss of your fur baby. She did have a good life.
Heather UK I know that tomorrow isn't promised. Insurance plays a big part in my decision to keep things status quo for now. I have told SIL and DH that they really need to figure out an exit strategy for the business. ....Also don't believe DH would move this far from Bellbrook. He has lived within 5 miles for the past 55 years. It is my dream which I will hold onto. 😉
Debbie Family drama-hugs! My mother causes us plenty in spite of the fact that we haven't spoken except rare texts in 8 yrs. She uses FB to stir a lot up. Just hugs.
So yesterday was hot and muggy here. We used it as a shopping day. Only 3800 steps but did get in 12 flights of stairs. Can tell we ate too much fried lately. Feet not feeling good in the morning. Had grilled chicken and sweet potato for dinner tonight. Today we walked! Over 12k steps. Still need to climb stairs a few more times. I did get overheated once while walking. Sugar also dropped. We stopped at a store for more water and munchies. I have had 64 oz of water which is double my normal intake. Am sure we will walk more tomorrow. Traffic here has been lighter than normal which surprised me. I hope for businesses sake it picks back up. Big rod run is next weekend, but this one was always big too.
Healing thoughts to those in need.
Hugs for all but extra hard ones for those in need!
Many thanks for the advice and life sharing we do.
6. Eat, exercise, bed on Time . Well .....better at that today, though did go to bed an hour early yesterday.
7. Learn to say no.....well....trying. doing better than I have in the past.
Much love,
Kylia enjoying mountain life

Just keeping busy working and stuff, nothing real exciting. Took Loki to the vet Wed. for blood work. Bought a new grill. The one we have right now works, but it needed a new regulator. Vince found one online and installed it and now it makes a humming noise for about the first 10 minutes you put it on. It’s a Kenmore about 13 years old. Parts will be harder and harder to find. Drove to a city about 45 minutes away to save $300 so it was worth the trip.
Barbie – I’m so sorry Jake hurt his ankle AND his knee. You’ll get thru this, I know. Glad to hear Bodhi is settling in
Rosemary – sorry you have Covid
Carol – sorry to hear this but glad everything got cleared up
I understand Jerry didn’t come in to work Wednesday and today he said to me “they don’t want me to work”. Probably because he had been drinking.
Rebecca – lovely letter “from Santa”
pip – congrats on being debt free
Walked to Food Lion the other day because the gal who wrote a rain check put the full price, not the sale price on it. When I explained this to the gal, she kept insisting that it was right since the sale was still on. Huh? Finally a manager came over and after I explained it to him he said to her “she’s (meaning me) right”. You should have seen the gal take off in a huff. As if to say “the customer can’t be right, I have to be”. The manager said he’d talk to her. Honestly!
When the kids were small, every year the bathroom downstairs (where I hid the presents while I was wrapping them) mysteriously had to be locked for one reason or another – the toilet was leaking, the sink leaked, etc. Then every year miraculously Christmas day the bathroom got “fixed”. Do you know the kids never figured it out until we moved out of that house?
I miss the Y only because of their pool. They are the only ones I know around here who have an olympic size pool. Oh, I forgot, the college has one, but it doesn’t have deep water aerobics classes.
Heather – lovely home they’re building
Rebecca – big congrats on the birth
pip – why is the ride still virtual? I remember they went that way when Covid hit, but it’s not a big thing any more so why are they continuing to have it virtually? Congrats on the new bike rack. Looks real nice
Joy – so sorry about your cat. Our fur babies are such a big part of our lives. Our cat is 15 and has a seizure disorder, an anxiety disorder, and cancer. He’s getting oral chemo, but he seems happy and that’s the important thing
Finished pulling all the weeds around the pool. Next I want to put down this “ground clear” stuff. It kills EVERYTHING and I sure don’t want those weeds growing back until we put down the stones around the pool
Not sure why the pool is still getting algae in it. We cleaned the filters (were they ever dirty!). I’m wondering if we need to change the filters. Vince thinks we need to shock it. Maybe we should do both? Not a bad idea to me.
Walked to Food Lion since they; have cabbage on sale (49 cents/pound). I’ll make coleslaw in case Jess comes here this weekend. Otherwise, we will eat it. On the way home it started to rain. I swear, if we need rain, just have me walk to Food Lion. So many times it starts to rain on my way home.
Soup kitchen tomorrow. You know, I'm very surprised they haven't gotten a lot of donations of zucchini. They just got a big donation of potatoes recently. I can't get over some of the good food those people get. We get WalMart brand bread. They get Wonder bread. Only once in the (about) 13 years that I've been volunteering did I ever see something and say to myself "there's no way I'd put that in my stomach". We get Aldi brand frozen pizza, they get DiGiorno.

Jake is feeling better today especially after getting his knee brace from Amazon. He did a few easy chores and stayed off his feet, as well. Bodhi is still not completely successful in the "housebreaking" department but we keep taking him out often. He doesn't like the leash and will walk on it reluctantly to get in his kennel at bedtime and for a few minutes outside the yard with Bessie. Baby steps and patience are the necessary ingredients. He is still learning to play and is a delight to watch.
Joy sorry about your fur baby.

Heather - I love reading about the relationship that Johnny and Max have. It’s so special.
Rita - the prices of medications are ridiculous. There should be something done about that.
Rebecca - I am going to discuss going off of of Wellbutrin next week with my doctor. I went on it shortly after starting work at the manor, I don’t feel I need it anymore and have gotten very haphazard about taking it.
Beth - insomnia is terrible. I’ve been struggling with it as well.
Lanette - I have learned from my doctor, physiotherapist, and massage therapist that you should never sit longer than 20 minutes at a time. When I do, is when my hip and back really act up. I learned walking back and forth to the printer wasn’t enough. 😂
Lisa - I eat a lot more when I’m tired too.
I enjoy the domestic stuff when I’m able to take time and putter at it. I also like a good solid clean day once know a while. I did that last Saturday for two rooms, need to do it soon for the bathroom and bedroom.
Still not a fan of gardening. I threw a couple plants away tonight rather than deadheading and watering them .😂
Hopefully next week I can do more.
I’m sure they were screaming at me from inside the bin, I just closed the lid and walked away.
Debbie - I really think your DH should just stop going to his mother’s for a while. It’s not good for anyone.
Allie - I hope that Seth’s family can help Carmine. It’s so hard on Tracy though I know.
I was informed today that I needed to update my social insurance number records. To do this I have to reapply and I need to scan my birth certificate, drivers license and marriage certificate. It seems my married name has never been updated on my SIN, but the new online registration for a government website matches your SIN information to what you enter before you can proceed.
I went to find my marriage certificate and couldn’t. I finally ordered a new one. It took my MIL 10 weeks to get hers. I hope it doesn’t take me as long.
During all of this I realized that when I changed my name I had to submit my original, along with my birth certificate and SIN card. I never received them back. Quite a few years ago I replaced the birth certificate but didn’t worry about anything else. All told since Tuesday I have spent 5 hours on hold trying to get this sorted.
I found the hotel receipt for our wedding night, our ring purchases, my name change document, and so much more. It was a little trip down memory lane.
I have a quiz in the morning, I’m a bit nervous as we didn’t have class today. The instructor’s son was sick and he had to take him to the hospital. He gave us the PowerPoint to go over. I don’t learn well from just reading.

The food program at my old church(where mom still goes) gets some amazing donations every week. There is a high end local bakery that donates a lot- dh loves it when I get Costeaux's sour dough. There are some weeks they get so much along with other breads from the food bank and Safeway that they have extra and let us take as much as we want. They sell it for $8 a loaf. We also are now getting a lot from Guy Fieri from his "Grocery Games" show. A local high end creamery donates often, along with other local places.

I wish he would too but he keeps going back for more abuse, even when there is no reason to. After this morning, he should have just said that is it, and not go back this evening but instead, he ended up going back just a few hours later(after spending time doing her errands) and stayed there for a few more hours. I do not understand it.
I was happy to go out walking with my friend.
Feet are hurting tonight but after walking the wetlands a bit over an hour and then with her, I hit 20,000 steps after I got home. Hope to sleep good tonight.

Wonder bread is "good food"???
That's one brand I avoid because of its poor quality. Doesn't it have high fructose corn syrup in it?
Bread is one thing I spend a little more on to get quality.
And I don't get bread with sugar in it.

Joy: Sorry about your fur baby. (((Hugs)))
We had an enjoyable day with DED at the sculpture exhibition. It was much larger than expected. We had lunch, and I was quite surprised at how much restaurant food has gone up. We then took her to see the King’s Coronation Garden before leaving her back to the train station.
I will be having an active rest day today.
