Machka - I just love the Tiny Happy Things
Congratulations on the weight loss!
Heather - I had to look up the “crisis”. I think I have an idea now.
I hope you are feeling better.
Annie - I hope your Dad listens without too much fuss.
You are in a tough situation and handling it very well.
Lisa - I’m glad you had a great day yesterday! Well Thursday.
I need to get at some strength training as well.
The balance concerns are real. My Aunt’s second husband fell on his morning walk, broke his back and became a paraplegic. He ended up living the rest of his life confined.
Ironically enough my Aunt’s first husband became paralyzed after a surgery for prostate cancer in 1980. She was one of the strongest women I ever met. I admired her so much.
Barbie - it must be relief to have Jake home.
Rita - I hope your son takes this time to heal and realizes he needs to make some lifestyle changes.
Allie - I bet it did contribute. I didn’t realize how ill I was when I went on sick leave. Now that I’m feeling better I can see more clearly how stressed I was.
I may have to try some of those.
I’m glad you are getting some rest, are you feeling any better?
Rebecca - our eldest was a very clear talker very young as well. So was Jonah.
Our youngest though sounded like a little girl with a cross between a Newfie and a deep Southern girl. DH drive back to back from Florida to Newfoundland most of her first couple years of talking. She still calls me Mama with a little tiny twist.
I’ve done one of those scrabble tile things. They aren’t as easy as you would think they are. I bet yours is lovely!
Beth - I was thinking about your siding the other day. How much more do you have to do? Will you be affected by the hurricane? My geography is failing me tonight.
Lanette - I’m glad the Roger’s are there to help when you need it, you are kicking it on your own.
Well I didn’t get even an acknowledgment that they received my email today. I don’t know why this surprises me, they’ve had no respect through any of this.
I cut pieces today for a lantern. I think I have it figured out how to design one of the frames myself. That might be this weeks project.
I hope to have the lantern done tomorrow, I have ideas for changing it up as well.
Off to bed, hoping to go to Kaitlyn’s to make pickles tomorrow and her MIL is visiting so I’ll have a visit with her as well. She is a lovely lady. My daughter is so fortunate to have a wonderful MIL that adores her. I have the same, but I see how hard it is for my other daughter whose in-laws are very difficult.
Tracey in Edmonton5 -
Tracey - I was using the word as a joke really, but I was at my wit's end with the sneezing and streaming and exhaustion. It couldn't get any worse. And, of course, it turned by the morning and was much, much better. I used to see it in films of 'the old days'.
"What is considered a medical crisis?
The medical crisis pertained to a decisive turning point at which the disease would either cause death or recede. Crises occurred on 'critical days', a specific number of days after the onset of illness. This is described repeatedly in the writings of Hippocrates (11).8 Jan 2018"
Happy to say, I slept for 8 hours last night and life is looking up. Not done yet, but much perkier!

Machka - thank you for the bee hives and honey harvesting pix! Gave me goosebumps. I can just imagine how great it tastes.
Allie - what a shame there's now foot traffic that gets Alfie stirred up. Rosie would be the same way, wish their "bark alarms" had on and off buttons or at least "silence" mode now and then. Alfie is such a cutie.
Heather - so glad to hear you are doing better.
Tracey - sorry to read about your Aunt's second husband. I saw a Bob & Brad short video yesterday talking about how important it is that we turn around in a circle now and then to help maintain balance and keep our vestibular system tuned up I guess. I never really thought about it until I saw that video and realized I rarely turn completely around in a circle. I can see how someone without good balance could easily fall from something so simple as turning 180 degrees quickly to move or grab something. I really think Tai Chi with the slow steps and short turns can help.
Making pickles sounds like fun!
Barbara - I agree, that Eagles song is hauntingly beautiful. They are among my favorite bands ever. Glenn Frey was a musical genius IMHO. I remember when he died, the news reported he also had RA.
Food Intolerances:When I went to see Dr. Matt a couple weeks ago, my main concern was stopping the stuffy nose/ sinus headaches at night and getting off nightly Zyrtec. I knew I had environmental allergies and suspected food intolerances because I knew that when I ate certain things, my nose and ears would plug in the matter of minutes, I'd feel bloated too.
He put me on a DAO enzyme that helps mitigate food intolerance symptoms. I'm pretty sure I've isolated the problem to dairy, which I was eating before bed - I often had a glass of milk, or a bowl of cereal with milk, or ice cream, or overnight oats with yogurt and milk as a dessert after supper.
I'm not giving up dairy, but am taking pains to stop eating/drinking dairy products after mid afternoon to let my system clear it out. I take the DAO supplement with dairy in the morning and at lunch - I think the symptoms aren't as severe and get better quickly. It's expensive and I can't afford to stay on it forever.
That's the latest. I woke up at 1 so a nap is scheduled some time today.
Make it a wonderful day, ladies!

Do some research on the cons of drinking milk.
One place to start: https://www.healthline.com/health/is-milk-bad-for-you
I discovered I was lactose intolerant when I was in my late teens. One glass of milk or milk on cereal is all right. If I do that 3 days in a row, however, my digestive system is quite upset.
"Most people with lactose intolerance can consume some amount of lactose without having symptoms. Different people can tolerate different amounts of lactose before having symptoms."
https://www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/digestive-diseases/lactose-intolerance
I'm also good with hard cheeses, yogurts and the ice milk version of ice cream.
"Hard and matured cheeses such as cheddar, Edam, Swiss, mozzarella, brie and fetta contain no lactose and are tolerated by people with lactose intolerance."
"Yoghurt is usually well tolerated because the lactose content decreases each day as the bacteria use lactose for energy."
https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/conditionsandtreatments/lactose-intolerance
I'm not good with milk (as mentioned above), soft cheeses, cream or butter. Greek yogurts also don't sit particularly well. I used to love chocolate pudding (whipped milk and cocoa sort of thing), but haven't been able to eat it in years. It goes down really nicely ... and then I feel very sick for the rest of the day.
Also, just a tip ... check the weight of the cereal you're eating. Cereal is very disappointing. Usually 45 grams is considered a serving. Personally, a serving of cereal is 3 or 4 times that much!! 45 grams is a mere dusting of cereal at the bottom of the bowl. I stopped eating cereal for the most part in 2015 when I was on my first mission to lose weight because it just wasn't worth it.
I'm excited about the honey!! It's an interesting flavour ... not quite sure how to describe it. Kind of like a stringy bark and wildflower combination, but slightly milder.
We did lose our hive (the bees disappeared) but they had made a lot of honey. Now we have some scout bees sniffing around one of the hives so some may move in.

Managed to change our halogen light bulb. The most difficult part was the dirt and flies that were in the bottom of the glass. You could only access it through a hole. Who designs these things? Between DH and me, we figured out how to do it.
It looks great now!

Hello all! The weather here on the lake has been lovely the past couple of weeks. Nice fall-ish temps in the mid 60s to low 70s (F). That is all changing and it is warming up again. Looks like we will be hitting the 80s this week. As long as it doesn't get a lot warmer than that, I am good. I bought popsicles this week, so the kids will be happy as we play outside. lol
I am still battling that cold. I have taken a covid test three times over the past month; so I am sure it is not that. But it is just a stuffy/gunkiness that seems to come and go. I have a sneaking suspicion it is something I am eating or drinking. DH made the suggestion that "it could be the coffee". Ugh! I might need to stop the coffee for a while to test that theory. I shudder at the thought.
Well, all of your good thoughts and prayers on my childcare spots filling up must have been heard. lol Over the past couple of days I have been inundated with calls for care. I have four interviews set up for next week! Plus two for the following week. Of those six, I am pretty confident that three of them will be with me, as they are friends of families that are currently in my care. SO...I can scratch that stressor off my "brain" list.
Cindy- Sending all of the good thoughts, prayers, vibes your way! I had that happen about ten years ago when I started running and lifting weights. I went in for a couple of exams and an ultrasound and it ended up being fibrous breast tissue due to the recent physical changes. It was definitely a scary few weeks until we knew for sure. Hoping the outcome is the same for you! Hugs friend!
Machka- Congrats on the weight loss! Thank you for the bee pics! Your yard/garden looks so lovely and charming! IF I were a bee, I would never leave. But I guess, if the queen died; bees do what they do...The pics show just how fascinating bees (and insects) really are!
Beth- Hats off to you and hubby on the home improvements! DH and I are in the same boat. We have been in this house for over 20 years and are at the point that things need to be replaced/repaired. With his RA and my total ignorance on home improvement we will probably need to have it done by someone else. We/He has always been DIY for everything. It really does save so much money. HOnestly, there is a YouTube video for everything under the sun. I am tempted to have DH stand by and tell me what to do and how to work the tools and just do things ourselves; with me doing most of the work.
Rita- AWww! Did you find the owner of the sweet little dog? Could it belong to one of the campers? I live across the street from a campground and see a lot of "stray" dogs. How sad if it is and it gets left behind. Happy your son is out of the hospital! Also...are you the one that takes the pics for the Friends of Bottomless Lake...? Those sunflower pics are so lovely!
Tracey- You are so crafty! Truly, you are talented in a wide variety of areas! Color me green with envy!
Lanette and Lisa- I am working on the same type of exercise for my own fitness. I do see the differences in what I am able to do or continue to do as I get older. I think the activity that the kids bring to my life and the movements I am required to do to care for them does help slow the aging. I still spin with the kids almost daily. lol There is also a lot of squatting, kneeling, mid-line crossing of arms and legs. My balance is still pretty good; my stamina is failing. I find myself needing to sit and rest a lot more, now.
Well, I am on my last two days off. Vacation has been wonderfully restful. I have been getting LOTS of sleep. I got out yesterday and ran my errands for next week and got some of my shopping done. Monday, my son is going to pick up a shopping order after his work day ends. The highway to the Aldi I normally go to is under construction, so I placed an order in the next town over. DYS picking it up will save on the gas $$. I have a few things to do to get ready for the kids next week. But should still have plenty of time to relax this weekend. Love and hugs to you all! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Hello all,
My chicken broth cooled enough overnight so that I can skim the fat off this morning and then filter it to use during my fast beginning Monday... which I'm still contemplating whether or not I'm going to do. I am not good at being deprived of anything! I've got everything I need at home to get through three days without solid food, and in the end, the decision is mine to make. My best friend told me she'll wait and call me on Tuesday, because I will be a horrible, whiny child on Monday. She knows me well. Ah well, I'll either do it or I won't, but I'm done talking about it.
Beth - I get it, I genuinely do, but much like Barbara, not sure I could do the up-and-down ladder thing, no matter how many thousands of dollars saved. I totally get that your husband will accomplish the job much better than the "professional" would have, as my husband is exactly the same.
The weekend stretches out in front of us without too many plans. While Corey drinks his morning coffee, I'll get on the elliptical and the rower, as it will be far too wet outside to accomplish anything until later anyway. He brought home one of the big gas-powered trimmers to give the big privet hedges a good haircut. They're now over six feet tall, and about three to four-feet deep. I need to get a photo of the hedges once it's light. That's about the only planned activity, as such (exciting, huh?).
House plans:This fall, Corey plans to arrange to get a dumpster brought in to get rid of a lot of yard art, including the old boat and motor that was left at the tree line and various battered storm doors we've removed over the course of the years, as well as dozens of steel fence posts with their concrete plugs still firmly attached. We yanked up hundreds of feet of fence the first year or two we were here in order to open up the space around the house.
Corey will have to also rent a small tractor with a grabber and a loader for a weekend in order to lift things like the boat into the dumpster. The rental place will deliver the tractor and accessories on Friday and come pick it up on the Monday, so we won't even need to trailer it here.
The reason for the tractor rental is that he was showing me the tractor he wants ("It's just a little one, see? ). The overall cost for the tractor plus the separate (of course) hydraulics and other accessories was more than $25,000 when all was said and done.
I asked him how much it would cost to rent what we need for a weekend, and it turns out it's about $400. The argument that won, though, was when I said we have no place to park a new tractor, and suggested strongly that we wait until we've put up the barn we plan to build in a couple years before we talked about buying a tractor. There are an awful lot of $400 weekend rentals before you get to $25,000!
That said, while we have the dumpster, the plan is to do all the demolition of sheetrock (drywall) and flooring in what is now the storage room/exercise room/half bathroom in the back of the house, This was the space that we planned to turn into a master suite, originally. We've decided to simplify by keeping the bathroom separate, accessible from the hallway, and reasonably small, with only a shower added instead of making a full ensuite bathroom.
That will allow us to turn part of the space into a storage room/exercise room to house the elliptical and rower. The bedroom will be made significantly larger than it is now, allowing room to put a bed in with space to walk around both sides of it, as well as a chest-of-drawers or dresser.
Many of these changes are so that Corey and I can do the work ourselves. We plumbed a bathroom into the apartment we built into the warehouse, so none of this is unfamiliar to the two of us. We will do it slowly, as Beth noted, but this way, it will be done right.
Time to get a third cup of coffee in to Corey and go get on the elliptical.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

Machka those honey pictures are great!
Heather I rented a house once with a fancy halogen light high in the stairwell. It took me a month of darkness to figure out how to change the bulb. No way to put a ladder in the stairwell to really see it. What a crazy design!
Well I asked my dad about paying the credit cards and he said he thought he had already done it. I was tempted to push him to prove it, but I just let it go.

Beth and Lisa, I am so impressed with the construction you do with your husbands. Up and down the ladder and plumbing a bathroom and working together. I don't know why but projects just weren't easy for my DH and I to take on together. We'd get crossways of each other.
Cindy, hoping Monday you get answers and that the tests show fibrous tissue.

Heather, glad you are feeling better and slept 8 hours.
Barbara, the song was beautiful...
Debbie, hope your weekend is wonderful.
Annie, chocolate.... me too. Just sometimes it jumps into my hand and then my mouth.
Gads, I've forgotten all I wanted to comment on. The talk of exercise has me getting out my resistance bands and weights....guess it doesn't do much good that they've sitting in the closet. It feels good to be back to the pool in the morning, and love my walks but know I need weights and more work on balance.

Here is the monthly list I use for you to copy if you’d like. Thank you Machka for posting the calendar. I always forget to post it in a format that works on here.
2023 Self-Care September 20231. Find time for self-care. It’s not selfish. It’s essential.
2. Notice the things you do well, however small.
I'm spending quite a bit of time relaxing this weekend. Self-care.
And what do I do well? I don't know ... the usual household things like the laundry I've done this weekend, working on my drystream, cycling, colouring.
3. Let go of self-criticism and speak to yourself kindly.
4. Plan a fun or relaxing activity and make time for it.
I'm not usually overly critical of myself but I will question myself, like "What are you doing?"
And today, I went for a long-ish walk at lunch then did some colouring at home after work.
5. Forgive yourself when things go wrong. Everyone makes mistakes.
And most of the time, mistakes can be fixed.
6. Focus on the basics: eat well, exercise, and go to bed on time.
All good except for the "go to bed on time" thing.
7. Give yourself permission to say ‘no’..
Getting better at that. I'm working my way through emails and unsubscribing!
8. Be willing to share how you feel and and ask for help when needed.
I ask ... but from my experience help is a rare occurrence. Occasionally, however, I'm pleasantly surprised.
One thing I've discovered is that it helps if I am very specific about the help I need.
9. Aim to be good enough, rather than perfect.
It's all about priorities.
A little story: When I have been in university and other programs getting degrees, diplomas and certifications, I discovered something. It was OK not to do all the assignments. I would look over the assignment collection for the course, and focus my attention on the one(s) worth the most marks. If the one worth 5% didn't get done, oh well.
One teacher was horrified with that approach.
I had been really sick for about three or four weeks and was getting done what I could. I handed in an assignment worth 20% and got a decent mark on it like 80% or something. Then along came a quiz worth 10% and I had not studied at all for it ... too much to do on the big assignment and just too sick. I got 40% and when he went through it with me (not pleased that I had failed), I told him it was OK. I got 40%. I was happy with that. Actually I was thrilled I got that high, given the complete lack of studying!
He couldn't understand it.
I explained that for 30% of the total mark, I was sitting at 20/30 with the assignment and quiz. I was still comfortably passing and had more of the class to go where I could potentially get better marks. I had sacrificed the quiz in order to do well on the assignment.
He didn't like that approach one bit as he imagined his students would pour every effort into every assignment.
But I didn't need to be perfect.
10. When you find things hard, remember it’s ok to not be ok.
I usually take it out on the stairs. Something difficult at work ... and I'm out the door climbing stairs.
12. Make time to do something you really enjoy.
Almost every day. Usually colouring.
13. Get active outside and give your mind and body a natural boost.
Almost every day.
14. Be as kind to yourself as you would to a loved one.
I am.
15. If you’re busy, allow yourself to pause and take a break.
Up and down those stairs!!
Walking at lunch
Walking with Rhody
Gardening
Reading
Colouring
Listening to music
16. Find a caring calming phrase to use when you feel low.
Soft kitty
Warm kitty
Little ball of fur
Happy kitty
Sleepy kitty
Purr purr purr.
I sing that to Rhody and he seems to really like it - stretches, curls up, closes his eyes, purrs.
But one day, I caught myself singing it out loud to myself at work while I was working on some difficult code!! And someone heard me!!
17. Leave positive messages for yourself to see regularly.
My memories in Facebook
18. No plans day. Make time to slow down and be kind to yourself.
That would be nice, but ...20. Ask a trusted friends to tell you what strengths they see in you.
21. Notice what you are feeling without any judgement.
22. Enjoy photos from a time with happy memories.
23. Don’t compare how you feel inside to how others appear outside.
24. Take your time. Make space to just breathe and be still.
25. Let go of other people’s expectations of you.
26. Accept yourself and remember that your are worthy of love.
27. Avoid saying ‘I should’ and make time to do nothing.
28. Find a new way to use one of your strengths or talents.
29. Free up time by canceling any unnecessary plans.
30. Choose to see your mistakes as steps to help you learn.
31. Write down 3 things you appreciate about yourself.
32. Remind yourself you are enough, just as you are.

Betsy - If it helps, the first few times Corey and I worked together, I had to explain at the top of my lungs that I was not working FOR him, I was working WITH him, and I didn't necessarily understand the commands he was giving. While I wasn't stupid, I didn't have his background, and I needed him to explain things so I could understand what he wanted me to do.
Now, I can just give him a sideways look and his communication behavior changes. Pretty sure he did not realize I cussed until that first build together. Then he found out that I have an extensive vocabulary of curse words. We do OK working together now, 15 years later, but not at the beginning. He still thinks I'm stronger, faster and taller than I actually am, but he gets over it pretty quick.

Beth It is good to have a few extra pieces of siding. There was some damage to my son's siding and no extra pieces and because the color was brown no match. Fortunately it was a small hole so it could be covered with another type of patch. Good luck on the project. If you can do the labor you save a bunch and often the job is better because you can take your time. Hope he has a buddy to help hold the pieces in place as he puts them up. You can also upgrade the quality too.3

My ex had a leather tool belt from his construction days, and as soon as he put it on, he became a total sexist idiot. He wanted to make all the decisions , and he wanted me to fetch and carry, clean up his trash and be impressed with his swagger. We did not work on projects together.

1. Find time for self-care. It’s not selfish. It’s essential. Making time!
2. Notice the things you do well, however small. I will. Talking to campers, meeting dogs, electronics.
3. Let go of self-criticism and speak to yourself kindly. I will try!
4. Plan a fun or relaxing activity and make time for it. Did this already! Went for a long walk this morning.
5. Forgive yourself when things go wrong. Everyone makes mistakes. This will be hard because I tend to blame myself for everything.
6. Focus on the basics: eat well, exercise, and go to bed on time. Will Do!
7. Give yourself permission to say ‘no’.. I’m doing this more often now.
8. Be willing to share how you feel and and ask for help when needed. I will try to remember to ask for help when I need it rather than struggle and get frustrated.
9. Aim to be good enough, rather than perfect. This needs to be a mind change for me. Whenever I do something, I get upset if it is not perfect. I need to make it a point to accept what the result is while doing my best.
10. When you find things hard, remember it’s ok to not be ok. This is apt for today.
11. Make time to do something you really enjoy. I hope to go ‘window shopping’ today. Did this and colored.
12. Get active outside and give your mind and body a natural boost. Went for a 20 minute walk then the rain started.
13. Be as kind to yourself as you would to a loved one.
15. Find a caring calming phrase to use when you feel low. “Breathing in,I am relaxing. Breathing out, I am relaxed.”
16. Leave positive messages for yourself to see regularly. Sticky notes, here I come!17. No plans day. Make time to slow down and be kind to yourself.
18. Ask a trusted friends to tell you what strengths they see in you.
19. Notice what you are feeling without any judgement.
20. Enjoy photos from a time with happy memories.
21. Don’t compare how you feel inside to how others appear outside.
22. Take your time. Make space to just breathe and be still.
23. Let go of other people’s expectations of you.
24. Accept yourself and remember that your are worthy of love.
25. Avoid saying ‘I should’ and make time to do nothing.
26. Find a new way to use one of your strengths or talents.
27. Free up time by canceling any unnecessary plans.
28. Choose to see your mistakes as steps to help you learn.
29. Write down 3 things you appreciate about yourself.
30. Remind yourself you are enough, just as you are.

Heather-Glad you're feeling better.
Cindy-Sending positive vibes your way!
Machka-That song, #16 on your list, was featured prominently on the TV series, The Big Bang Theory. I easily sang the tune in my head when I read that.
Katla-Glad to see you popping in from time to time.
Debbie-Have a good time at your mother's.
Projects-The mister and I have not done many projects together because he thinks he knows everything and he's a micromanager. He also knows he will do a better job, but he won't do it himself. The last project was managing the painters to get our house painted and he micromanaged them and micromanaged me to micromanage them. I will not do that again, so we will see what we do for the front yard renovation.
We're having Boat-oberfest today out on the sea. Sausages and kraut while floating on the ocean. Better get ready to go!

KJ I manage the FB page for Friends of Bottomless Lakes. I take most of the pics on there and sometimes a fellow member sends me pics to post. Here are some other pictures of the Pecos Sunflowers blooming right now.

Resistance is just not my favorite thing to do, and I "resist," adding the exercises and weights back in each time (pun intended... ), but I know I need to get moving on it.
Later, my dearlings,
Hope it is (or was) a good day!
Love from a cool, nearly fall morning in Arkansas,

I have a basket of hand weights (dumbbells) next to my chair (my spot) when I'm at home. I can easily completely forget they are there, but if I'm reaching for my headphones or colouring pens, I can't help but see them.
That doesn't work every time, but sometimes it reminds me to pull out a couple and do some upper body weights.
I did some tonight.

I did more weights today. Trying to get my arms ready for sleeveless tops this summer!

Katia- So sorry to hear about your belly issues. I have belly issues also. Last November I gave up red meat for the most part occasionally I will have meatballs and seem to do okay. Every time I ate red meat my belly hurt. I didn't realize it at first. I was slowly changing my diet to just fish and chicken and occasionally pork. I noticed my belly was having less irritability, bloating, & spending time attached to the throne. I hope you are able to figure out what is causing your belly issues.
- I am learning everyone by how they write. I play a little game with myself. I will read and see if I can guess who it is without looking. I am doing pretty good. Great to challenge myself that way.
- I hope everyone has a great weekend.
- watching football with my hubs.
- plan on exercise after game.
- HIS grace is sufficient for me.5 -
Rita - Great photos!
Edie and I tried a project we saw on Instagram. It was so easy and so much fun. I like hers more than mine.
Mine. You can see I'm having a gold and silver day!
Edie's.
Instagram gives me so many ideas.
