Questions for those of you who use Kindle.
I have the Kindle App (I think).
And I think I've used it to read one free book.
The app I'm using has this icon below. Is that the Kindle app?
Are there free books?
Do I have to buy books?
Can I "take books out" like a library or from a library?
Thanks!!
I have always preferred to read books on paper. But occasionally it might be more convenient not to carry a paper book.

I use the Kindle app and I have a Kindle. I’m reading different books on all, (phone, iPad, Laptop, and Kindle!) LOL. There are some free books on it. To answer the first questions. You can buy books through Amazon, and Kindle itself. Since Kindle is owned by Amazon, if you have Amazon prime, you can join the First Reads program and choose a free Kindle book once a month. Through Amazon there is another program that lets you ‘borrow’ books like at a library. I personally buy them and get the monthly free one. They are kept on the ‘Kindle cloud’ and you can sync between all your devices, or do like me and read different books on different devices. I hope that helps. I don’t know if it will apply to Oz as well.

My library uses the Kindle app. My fire tablet uses it too. I just look for free books. I never pay. I go thru looking at my library bookmark, so first it takes me to the library, then Amazon where it says pick up book, then it downloads it in the kindle app. I then see the book listed in my area of checked out books on my library one. I love it because it gives me 21 days of reading with each item. I will get an email when a book is ready to expire. Sometimes I can check it out again, and sometimes I have to put the book on hold. Its a great thing.👍🏼💖

WaMachka, My library uses an app called "Libby" for borrowing and downloading e books and audio books from my library. The e books can be read on the kindle app on my phone. I usually am reading an eBook on my Kindle app, a paper book in the bathroom and at bedtime, and an audio book or podcast while I walk or do chores. The fact that I can keep the plots separate in my brain is evidence that my thinking is still sharp.

Thanks! Thanks for all the advice.
My library does have Libby. I went to the library today and got set up, so I'll see what I can do.

It is important for me to remember that the age range on this thread is about 50-85, meaning that some of us are as old as the mothers of some of the others and that some of you are still employed full time, while others have much more open schedules.

I'm at the young end of the scale.
Career woman: Employed almost full-time (9-day fortnight) and still building my career.
Student: Currently taking a university course to help further my career.
Carer to my husband.
Mum to our cat.
Grandmother to our granddaughter.
President, national rep, communications officer and ride organiser for the local branch of our long-distance cycling club.
Member and active participant in the local brain injury association and beekeeping club.
Cyclist, walker, hiker, runner, rower, weightlifter, gardener.
And when I get some time I enjoy photography, reading, colouring, and music.
Jam-packed schedule!!

Walking speed ...
When I'm on my own and am determined, I can motor at 6 km/h. At about 6.2 km/h, I'm into a slow run.
But I walk comfortably somewhere a little over 5 km/h. That's a natural speed for me.
Since my husband's accident, his walking speed has slowed to about 2 km/h.
I really try to walk that slow because I don't want to leave him behind ... but it isn't natural for me, and actually hurts my hips.
So I find myself stopping and waiting a lot.
M in Oz4 -
Terri, thanks for the clear directions. You must know me because you left me no way to go astray.
Lanette, my friends who died in the Morocco earthquake were exchange students and we kept in touch. I think I just sent you a message...
I'm going to the pool at the Y this morning. Will feel good to have pool time after my first dog walk with Ella.

Jake's knee was feeling better so he spent too much time on his feet doing work in the yard yesterday and the day before. This morning he is moaning and groaning and grouchy.
Bodhi sat by my chair and let me pet him
Bessie wouldn't eat her breakfast until I lay on the floor next to her.
That's what caregiving looks like in my house this morning. Life is filled with adventures.

I decided to have another go at painting my dining room and this time tried a Matisse style. I like it, but I think many will prefer the other.
Very much enjoyed myself anyway.

Aussie boots!
The boots look nice, but I think they'd be way too warm for me.
M in Oz
my feet are almost always cold. The only time I wear regular little socks is in the summer with my tennis shoes when I am walking/have zumba. The rest of the year, I wear the fuzzy socks inside my tennis shoes or in my boots. I have another brand(Dawgs) of boots that are like the Uggs but cheap. I wear them all fall and winter. Even in the summer mornings I tend to wear my fuzzy socks. Very very rarely am I barefooted.
They get very cold and just ache so need to keep them warm. Part of Reynaud's syndrome(hands are the same way-they are actually worse in some ways. If I touch anything cold they burn and hurt and turn a deep red color until I can warm them up.7 -
Betsy ~ So sorry to hear about the death of the students in Morocco.
Debbie ~ My feet get cold during the day but they get hot when I am in the bed at night and I have to stick my feet out from the covers.
Heather ~ I really like the first painting better. But, I am not into modernistic styles. You must be so proud of your grandchildren who are exceeding at almost everything they try.
Rita ~ Congrats on your month of dry days. I don't think I will ever get there unless my circumstances change greatly.
Kylia ~ I went to North Georgia College which is in the North Georgia Mountains. I loved going on drives through the mountains. Unfortunately, my husband went to the same school and doesn't like visiting the mountain areas.
I just checked my bank account and they put all the fake charges back into my account. Doing the Happy Dance!

Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers. He is negative for TB but has a bacterial infection because of his teeth and pneumonia. As for Go-Fund-Me, that will probably be necessary for his hospital bills. I’ll run that through him.

And for those who asked… I do feel a whole lot better without the alcohol. Stopping that got me back into walking and taking care of myself.
The go fund me will have to wait b/c son doesn’t want the rest of my family, or his son, to know he is in the hospital. I don’t know why, but I will respect his wishes.

Betsy-so sad you had friends lost in Morocco. From the reports seems the remoteness (which adds to its beauty) is compounding the problem.. I hope they can get meaningful help to the area.
Barbara-I hope the lifts don't cause shin splints-its one of the same exercises they give for stretching calves! I have very tight leg muscles it seems.
Rebecca-my DH used to make lasagna. I'm not so much on heavy pasta any more but yours sounds like I would have to have a bit of it!
Walkng speed-I have typically been a fast walker but am slowing down as I get older. I used to walk slower when I walked with DH (he had bad legs). At first that was frustrating but then I realized it was something good we did together to visit and catch up with the day.
Off to get ready for day. Need to be in office early today and tomorrow.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio
Mine isn't too unique, as I just use a large can of Hunts spaghetti sauce with meat, a plain can of tomato sauce, and a small can of tomato paste. Its a cheap meal as all of those are $3. The Braille lasagna noodles are $2, and the mozzarella cheese is $3. I use 1/2 tube of sausage and fry up in a bit of olive oil, Italian spices and a hefty squirt of roasted garlic paste. I also put a spoonful of brown sugar in the sauce as its simmering. Total cost is about $10. There are about 6 servings so that's $1.66 per serving which isn't too bad. I also made cheese bread which bumps the price up to $2 each.
I have two containers in the freezer with two hefty squares and a piece of cheese bread in each. My containers will probably get that typical pasta stain on them but whatever.🙃😂

Heather - love the picture of you and Edie.
The girls are so athletic.
Allie - I hope that no one actually gets Covid. Good for Tracy to postpone the baptism.
Kylia - I need to find more ways to move at home too. It really made a difference in my back and hips when we were away.
Love your bears and your view, in the fog and not.
Lanette - If I was to wish for a body part to be what it was “50 years ago”. I would chose 25 years ago instead. I really would like it to be my back for functionality, my belly to be flatter again for vanity. I will be 55 on Wednesday, I don’t want to be 5 again.
Rita - prayers for you and your son.
Barbie - Bodhi seems to be fitting in and setting his own expectations.
I love that although the ages are so varied in this wonderful group that we all respect one another’s opinions and we all learn from one another. I admire all of you.
Michele - I’m happy for you that Denise called to invite you.
Carol - what a wonderful photo of your Grandson. Handsome young man.
Rebecca - Lasagna sounds delicious. Maybe that will be a meal this week here.
Betsy - Sorry for your loss. It’s difficult when we lose people our own age.
Barbara - I have met people that mumble so much I wish they had a translator, I understand what you are saying.
Machka - thanks for the advice regarding the cardboard and weed co trail. DH made a flowerbed for me in front of the trailer that we spent a fair amount of money on for dirt. I then went and bought some wildflower seeds and threw them in. Turns out that most of the seeds were actually chickweed and very few actual flowers. So for 4 years now I pull chickweed weekly. I have planted other perennials but everything looks messy because of the chickweed. I wonder if I should put some cardboard in for over the Winter so it stops it before it can start in the Spring.
Debbie - I have a friend that has Renaud’s syndrome. She is in pain a lot of the winter due to it.
I didn’t get a chance to drop in last night before going to bed and posting as I usually do.
Kaitlyn was here and our crafting took longer than we anticipated. We took a few breaks, had a meal, chatted it was a very nice visit.
These are the results of our play. Hers is on the left. We had a lot of fun doing them.
10 -
Tracey - What fun you must have had with Kaitlyn!
Was it a kit, or did you cut them?
AF day today. Hooray!
Listened to another Tim Spector podcast this morning while exercising. It's the latest on a podcast I follow, called 'The Imperfects'. Australian, three guys. I really like it. I have been eating Tim Spectorwise for several months now. Haven't lost weight, but I definitely like his way of eating and it has given me more energy. I feel well, generally.
Tonight we had a broccoli, mixed veggies, and feta frittata. There is always leftovers for lunch the next day.
Definitely recommend a listen to the podcast. I use Spotify for free.
I wear socks year round and in bed. I have been known to take them off in a blistering heatwave.DH has cold feet and very cold hands in the winter. My hands are fine. My father had cold feet.
Got to think what to have for dinner tomorrow as we are picking up Bea and going back to her house. She said she was hoping to move back into her bedroom last night.

Tracey--Very nice pictures. Glad you had some time to relax and enjoy the time together.Pip--Greast job!!
Heather--Your dear grandchildren, what great memories for all of you.
My DH puts honey most everything he cooks. We usually buy local when we can.
Rita--That scale looks like it would be just the right size for travel. Where did you order it from? So sorry to hear about your son. Sending prayers and hugs for both of you, being so far away is not easy. Have him check at the hospital as there are grants to help pay the bills for those without insurance.
Carol--A proud grandma moment for sure. Glad you got all your money back.
Betsy--So sorry for your loss, sending hugs.
It was a nice weekend, just went by to fast. Going to chirocpractor after work as my right hip is hurting a lot.Going back to the one I went to last year, before his wife passed away. The other one scares me sometimes.

MFP Weekly Check-in (Accountability)for September 10, 2023
Rita in NM - I usually weigh in and record on Monday, but will switch to Sunday. I have lost 1/2 pound this past week. I have been walking every morning the last week, which explains why only 1/2 pound but feeling better for the walking. Journaling, and meditating every day so far this month as well. AND 30 days without alcohol!!
Debbie in CA – up half a pound
Lanette SW WA State – down a fraction, things staying the same – weight just fine per the smartbmicalculator.com "optimal health" but I still would like to have some clothing as loose as it was a year ago.Grateful I have some things that fit well. And overall, grateful I have stopped the gaining. That’s a victory in itself.
