Afternoon ladies
Last night ,not very productive sleep..but oh well..
Like Kelly was saying she has been watching Barbara O Neil I also watch her and a a few others ,I have started using Castor oil and rubbing it in my belly button..once daily.
I have lost 4 lbs so far,and seems to help ..will keep going.4 -
Well, again, you stay away for a couple of days and there is much you missed!
Barbie-good news Jake is home and on the mend! Did they figure out what caused it?
Machka-congrats on physical progress and the honey!
Tracey-glad your doctor provided the needed assessment. Will that entitle you to any unemployment or other sort of pay? I am not familiar with the Canadian process for such things-it sounds different that U.S. It is true that sometimes we don't realize how bad we have felt until we start feeling better. Sounds like a very nice birthday.
Rori-great vacation! You deserve it.
Allie-sorry to hear you have yet another cold.
Lanette-you have some of the most interesting experiences and do such a good job writing about them.
Kylia-your vacation also sounds like it was great and just what you needed.
Beth-tremendous savings on the siding. Fortunate your husband has the skill to do the job. I would not like being on the ladder, but I would have if we were doing a project and it was needed. I just would move slowly!
Cindy-good luck with the further testing. Very important to stay on top of such things. If there is something it is always best to catch it early.
Catching up on many things. Need to get work stuff done since I am gone next Monday late afternoon through Thursday at conference then drive to my undergrad school Thursday for a colloquium Thursday evening in honor of favorite professor (who is still alive!). Class mate giving the lecture. Will see some of the old group then home on Friday.
Off to check laundry,
Ginny in Ohio
Lisa-balance is critical as we age and the exercises for it are really simple and not overly time consuming.6 -
Annie & Tina ~ I am right there with you on doing projects with your husbands. I am good to go find things he needs but I had better not put in any suggestions.
Rita ~ Thanks for sharing the photos. The sun flowers and evening scenery are lovely.
Cynthia ~ Prayers as you wait for a further diagnosis. I think breast cancer is something all of us women dread thinking about.
Allie ~ Does the castor oil really work? I Googled it and it seems like a lot of people use it for many things other than weight loss. Maybe I should get some.
Kelly ~ So happy to hear that you are getting more children to fill up the spaces. The thought that other parents are recommending you says a lot.
Katla ~ My son had cut way back on red meat as he says it makes his stomach ache. He has a lot of digestive issues.
We took the beautiful red Jeep back to CarMax this morning and swapped it for a 2019 Honda Pilot. The Honda cost a more but I think in the long run it will be worth it. My husband thinks at our age it should be the last car we own. Don't know about that. I dread parking it in the garage because my visual perception of space is wonky.

LisaInArkansas wrote: »Beth and Lisa, I am so impressed with the construction you do with your husbands. Up and down the ladder and plumbing a bathroom and working together. I don't know why but projects just weren't easy for my DH and I to take on together. We'd get crossways of each other.
Betsy in NW WA
Betsy - If it helps, the first few times Corey and I worked together, I had to explain at the top of my lungs that I was not working FOR him, I was working WITH him, and I didn't necessarily understand the commands he was giving. While I wasn't stupid, I didn't have his background, and I needed him to explain things so I could understand what he wanted me to do.
Now, I can just give him a sideways look and his communication behavior changes. Pretty sure he did not realize I cussed until that first build together. Then he found out that I have an extensive vocabulary of curse words. We do OK working together now, 15 years later, but not at the beginning. He still thinks I'm stronger, faster and taller than I actually am, but he gets over it pretty quick.
Lisa ... This is my husband and I to a "T"4 -
Cindy ... I've had mammogram scares ... praying yours turns out to be nothing to worry about!
Tracey ... Happy Belated Birthday! No, Buffalo will not be impacted by any of the weather the hurricane generates. At the moment, everything is covered and essentially weatherproof. Today it looks like the soffit installation is just about done ... which means the siding is about to begin in earnest.
Barbara, Lisa ... my time on the ladder was very limited! I could never do the whole job with my husband ... I was just doing some touch up painting on service entrances before the siding goes up!
Machka ... the honey process is very interesting!
Kelly ... glad to hear that your childcare slots are filling up!

Finally up to date, but too tired to comment any more today. 😝

DH can't take criticism either, and often can't see his way to the best solution. I am very visual, but he isn't. We often have to really bite our tongues when we are trying to co-operate on a job. It is a strain! Even replacing the light bulb today was like walking on ice, but we managed not to fall out. Fortunately, he is not remotely interested in DIY. The cupboard door that fell off for the second time in the kitchen, is still there, propped against the unit. I will ask him what his plan is.
I occasionally get an urge to paint one of the bedrooms, but I wait for it to pass. I used to do all these things, but now I'm sure I would do myself an injury if I tried. So I just put up with the middle floor, including our bedroom, being painfully shabby. DH doesn't notice. It hurts, but I just think about cruises instead and sacrifice the house.
After our painting session, Edie and I had another go at the crochet. Last time she found it impossible, but she wouldn't give up! So this time, after much struggle, she managed her first chain. I got as far as the second row.
We have been invited to Fatto a Mano tomorrow at lunchtime with the family, but they have told us they can't afford to pay for us. It's some sort of reward for Edie doing some big bicycle race in the morning. It will be nice to see them all.
Some kind of salad will be called for in the evening I imagine. I have some very nice albacore, line-fished, tuna in a posh jar.
Watched Poirot tonight. Found an episode we hadn't seen!

Kinda! Except this is a HUGE can. I might them every so often but can't make thus a habit. It says it has MCT oil which seems like nothing but good. Also has vitamin C 100%, and 300 mg natural caffeine. Lord knows that's alot!

Congratulations on the weight loss!
Heather - I had to look up the “crisis”. I think I have an idea now.
I hope you are feeling better.
Annie - I hope your Dad listens without too much fuss.
You are in a tough situation and handling it very well.
Lisa - I’m glad you had a great day yesterday! Well Thursday.
I need to get at some strength training as well.
The balance concerns are real. My Aunt’s second husband fell on his morning walk, broke his back and became a paraplegic. He ended up living the rest of his life confined.
Ironically enough my Aunt’s first husband became paralyzed after a surgery for prostate cancer in 1980. She was one of the strongest women I ever met. I admired her so much.
Barbie - it must be relief to have Jake home.
Rita - I hope your son takes this time to heal and realizes he needs to make some lifestyle changes.
Allie - I bet it did contribute. I didn’t realize how ill I was when I went on sick leave. Now that I’m feeling better I can see more clearly how stressed I was.
I may have to try some of those.
I’m glad you are getting some rest, are you feeling any better?
Rebecca - our eldest was a very clear talker very young as well. So was Jonah.
Our youngest though sounded like a little girl with a cross between a Newfie and a deep Southern girl. DH drive back to back from Florida to Newfoundland most of her first couple years of talking. She still calls me Mama with a little tiny twist.
I’ve done one of those scrabble tile things. They aren’t as easy as you would think they are. I bet yours is lovely!
Beth - I was thinking about your siding the other day. How much more do you have to do? Will you be affected by the hurricane? My geography is failing me tonight.
Lanette - I’m glad the Roger’s are there to help when you need it, you are kicking it on your own.
Well I didn’t get even an acknowledgment that they received my email today. I don’t know why this surprises me, they’ve had no respect through any of this.
I cut pieces today for a lantern. I think I have it figured out how to design one of the frames myself. That might be this weeks project.
I hope to have the lantern done tomorrow, I have ideas for changing it up as well.
Off to bed, hoping to go to Kaitlyn’s to make pickles tomorrow and her MIL is visiting so I’ll have a visit with her as well. She is a lovely lady. My daughter is so fortunate to have a wonderful MIL that adores her. I have the same, but I see how hard it is for my other daughter whose in-laws are very difficult.

My family Scrabble came out well, but I did notice that the middle star starting point is empty. Ah well. I was going to put an empty tile there, but heck that would bother me too!

Tracey “…as the stress is leaving, I’m getting me back.” Thankful to hear it and that your doctor has written that you cannot return to your former job. Whew!
Sue you encourage me. Will discuss possible podiatry with new MD when I get in to see her.
Annie what Lisa, Barbie, Tracey, Lanette et al said. You are one strong gal in a tough situation. Brava!
Machka con VERY grats on the 6 kg… and the honey harvest… and most especially starting to feel a bit more like yourself!
Lisa, shuffling like a timid little old lady due to the fear of falling is one of the things I hate most about aging. T’ai Chi and the Better Bones and Balance class helped me some, and now the PT exercises, but I could do way better. Sure wish coach Ken was teaching BB&B again. Con VERY gratulations on your so very well begun!
Barbie thankful Jake is safe at home and sleeping well. Hope he heals quickly.
Allie imho in addition to the the stress of your job, I feel TomCat’s ways were detrimental to your health.
Beth admire your positive attitude about your DH’s meticulous process and avoiding damaging his friendship with his construction buddy. Brava for getting up and down the ladder, not something I could do even to help Joe. Fingers X’d your DH can finish before the weather turns.
Rebecca the ACV/honey/cayenne/sparkling grapefruit sounds way more appealing than the Black Rifle triple espresso shot, but it would take more than caffeine to inspire me to clean…
Lanette saw the “fall chicks” at our local ranch supply shop and thought of you. They were soooo cute, I was almost tempted, but nope. Livestock would not be safe with me.
Pip “legs got a break” walking Chispa for over two hours? You crack me up!
Debbie safe travels and hope your weekend visits go well.
Cindy brava for having lost 35 lbs and for staying positive. ((hugs)) and prayers.
Heather happy to hear your crisis has passed and you’re feeling much perkier! Colds can be so miserable.
Today a song came on the radio that was so piercingly beautiful I had to turn the radio off when it finished. Didn’t want anything else in my head. A capella Eagles “Down the seven bridges road”. https://youtu.be/NTvT4JNACss?t=2

Heather I rented a house once with a fancy halogen light high in the stairwell. It took me a month of darkness to figure out how to change the bulb. No way to put a ladder in the stairwell to really see it. What a crazy design!
Well I asked my dad about paying the credit cards and he said he thought he had already done it. I was tempted to push him to prove it, but I just let it go.

Went to see Denise and happily PJ remembered us! He called out “grandma” and let me pick him up and hug and kiss him. So that made me happy.
Wednesday he said “I wanna go to the park” so we told him that meant that he’d have to ride in grandpa’s car. See, once before he got VERY upset and wouldn’t go in the car. But this time he said “OK”. So we got the carseat in the car (we had to look at a uTube video to see how it is done) and off to the park we went. We took him for ice cream afterwards and then home and by then Pete was home from being gone for 10 days.
Couldn’t exercise on Wednesday since we needed to be at Denise’s at 6 so that she could go to work. Surprise, surprise, surprise she actually made dinner and was serving for us too. Admitted, it was just the Knorr pasta & sides with some chicken breast. But at least she did SOMETHING. Maybe Vince saying something last time she just took the pizza upstairs and had it made an impression. Left early Thurs, but I was able to do some HIIT.
Cut the front yard before we left then the backyard when we got back. Walked to Food Lion for bananas for Vince. They’ve gone up 8 cents!
Worked Fri and then the soup kitchen, worked Sat. They just had pizza, salad, crackers for lunch. To me, not much. Supposed to lector at the church today (sat). The gal who was scheduled has Covid so they asked me to fill in.
Kim – isn’t Medicare fun???? This is the government we’re talking so of course it doesn’t make sense!
Tina – I’m very surprised the people would continue to be in Honduras since they are so negative about it. Glad you’re home and they didn’t completely mess your vacation. Lovely pictures
barbie – I’m so sorry to hear Jake is in the hosp. But sounds like he’s in the best possible place for him right now. Update: so glad he’s home
Heather – glad its not Covid. Feel better soon
KJ – so happy for you!
Rori – so glad you had such a good time. WB!
Kylia – sounds like you had a wonderful time
Tracey – happy birthday. Love your ceramics. Speaking of ceramics, I understand the place opened Tues and Thurs from 3-8. We shall see how it goes
Lanette – so glad you called Roger (the handyman).
Lisa – the sports bra that I used to have was so gray it wasn’t even funny. It was ripped, too. But I figured the only person who will see me is Vince, and many times he was asleep. It finally got to the point where I had to throw it away, but I wore it for a long time because no one saw me in it. Congrats on getting back to exercise. I brined the turkey last Thanksgiving and it came out real moist. I’d definitely do it again. The biggest problem I had was finding something large enough to hold the bird while it brined.
Debbie – what a close call you had!
M – yea for the weight loss
Tracey – happy for you that you submitted your resignation. This will make you feel so much better
We’ve been putting these blocks around the pool. This will make it much easier to mow the grass. Plus, I think it looks neater. Anyway, Lanette, like your dh was, Vince is somewhat OCD about getting things just right. And he goes further than needed. Like he will take a level to be sure each stone is level. A lot of people will go by sight, but not Vince, he has to use a level. When he gets into his OCD, I just wait until he’s not looking and then do things my way. They get done – just not his way.
Cyntdooley – Try not to worry a lot about lumps. I know, easier said than done. I tend to get a lot of fiberadinomas. They stopped taking them out since they’re never cancerous. I have dense breasts, too. But quite a few years ago I found a lump. I got myself so worked up that I was positive it was cancerous. Turned out not to be. Try to stay positive, however hard that might be
Annie – you can add me to the list of people who are amazed at all you do, taking care of yourself and your parents. I’m in awe
katla – hope you feel better fast.
Allie – can you put a bark collar on Alfie when you want to sleep?
Heather – my way of getting rid of the bugs in the halogen light was to get rid of the light...lol
Betsy and Annie – you do know that if you put the chocolate on top of the refrigerator, the calories will just jump out????...lol
Can’t remember who mentioned it, but someone mentioned about turning around to help keep your balance. Is that right? I’m going to try it. My balance s***s
Took apart the one jigsaw puzzle, now starting another one.
Well, caught up

Ginny, It took three doctors to figure out that there was a cyst in Jake's knee that ruptured because he twisted it. It was a problem because of his mixed up blood cell count due to his cancer. They treated it with IV antibiotics and he is taking oral one for three days. The pain and swelling are gone and he is walking pretty well but is required to stay off his feet as much as possible. He did a few things in the yard today mostly sitting in a chair and has let me do things that require walking. Thanks for asking.
The biggest challenge here is taking the time to help Bodhi get comfortable with Jake. First Jake was injured and grunting and groaning a lot and then he was gone for a few days so it is starting all over for them. The watch words are patience and baby steps. This is just another one of life's opportunities for spiritual growth.
The dehydrator has been busy all day dehydrating garlic and parsley from our garden and red onions from the grocery store.
My dog walking friend wasn't feeling well this morning so she stayed home. I successfully walked both dogs on leashes in the dark for about ten minutes. It is a great beginning for us.
Cindy, thinking of you and sending hugs,

Machka-That song, #16 on your list, was featured prominently on the TV series, The Big Bang Theory. I easily sang the tune in my head when I read that.
Tina in CA
I know! It's a show we watch just about every evening.
We got Rhody from a cat adoption place. We suspect he came in as a kitten, and then went out to a foster home to help with socialisation, and then was up for adoption. He was adopted but a few weeks later, he was returned, and was at the adoption place for a while before we adopted him. He was 7 months old and showing signs of anxiety when we adopted him. But we suspect that at some point in there, someone sang "Soft kitty" to him to try to help him with his anxiety.
When I started singing it to him shortly after we adopted him, he reacted like he had heard this song before and settled down. I've continued singing it to him quite regularly for the past 3.5 years.

Hello Barbie 💃 I hope I will be able to keep up but popping in from Ireland to say hi to everyone ☘ I was 52 about a month ago and back to restart my MFP journey so far I have managed to get back on track and lose 35.4lbs but quite a bit still to go 🙈
I'm a doggie mum to 3 pooches Penny, Gypsy and Sadie and kitty mum to my wee Oscar 🐾 Fun fact at 51 I decided to restart rollerskating lol recycled teenager not skated since then but I manage to stay upright and that's an achievement in my book 🤣

Heather - I don’t think the term I found was what you meant. 😂
Glad you are feeling a bit better. Love your artwork.
Barbara - I wouldn’t want livestock either, I admire those that take care of things. I don’t want that responsibility.
Absolutely love The Eagles.
Lanette - I turn in circles quite regularly when I’m dancing around my house. I do need to get better strength though.
Machka - Those honey pictures are cool!
You have brilliant advice. Love the Soft Kitty story.
Kelly - is your son or son in law handy that they could help with some of the repairs.
We need a lot done but we are scared of where it may lead if we start.
I’m so happy for you that you have interviews lined up. What a relief.
Rodger and I work well on projects if we each have a specific task that doesn’t necessarily need to be done together. We can get through the things together but it’s not fun for either of us. I especially hate having to hold boards while he cuts. I will do anything to get out of that!
Ginny - I have applied for EI, they need to process my ROE and final pay before I find out if I’m approved.
Michele - happy you had a nice visit with Denise and PJ.
Pip - Happy Meeting Anniversary to you and Kirby.
I made another paper project today. I am envisioning several variations of this for different seasons. I may try to make some to sell.
Then I went to our daughter’s to make pickles. I will bring some home after the kids are sealed properly. I don’t eat them but apparently can make some good ones. We’ll see these weren’t actual “pickling” cucumbers.

Today’s gratitude: fiber. Just sayin’
Channeling my inner Rebecca, added chicken, cabbage, snow peas, green onions and peanuts to Dr. McDougall’s Pad Thai soup for first meal (instead of oatmeal and veggie breakfast sausage). Couldn’t eat it all, so had leftovers for snack after dog group. Think it helped me minimize the planned indulgence of wine, bread, cheese and chocolate this evening. Machka that is some rich looking honey! Sorry to hear the girls have moved on. Hope the new scouts settle in. “…But I didn’t need to be that perfect.” Sounds to me like you were clear on your priorities and successful overall. Singing soft kitty to yourself at work? Bet it helped with that difficult code!
Lanette funny you should mention turning in circles. One of this mornings dog game challenges was to walk in a circle around your dog, tossing treats in to the dog when she turned to/approached you. Then speed up, continue treating for turning to you, then change directions. Yah, I got dizzy. ;} Likewise yours about dairy. Since foregoing my daily Greek yoghurt or cottage cheese breakfast for oatmeal my digestive issues have completely cleared. I still indulge in a bit of cheese, but no more than an ounce and a half, and not every day When I first cut into a bell pepper, I often sneeze and sometimes my ears itch but eating them causes no other issues.
Katla does your tummy bother you when you have cottage cheese for breakfast?
KJ we knew you’d be in high demand. Sorry the gunk is hanging on. IMHO dairy is a more likely suspect than coffee…
Lisa math saves the day, and the dollars… Joe and I have always wisely worked separately except for those rare occasions when one needs another hand. Not Joe’s fault. I should have come with a Tshirt that read “Does not play well with others.”
Pip can see how making cookies would burn more calories than just making oatmeal, until they started jumping into my mouth like Annie’s and Betsy’s chocolates. If you dread training for and running the half marathon, why do it? Very happy meeting anniversary to a very handsome couple!
Annie if your dad just thought he’d paid the bills, could you gently ask “can we just check? To avoid any late payment charges?” Or would he get defensive?
Betsy Ditto. Amazing how far those chocolates can jump.
Heather that’s a very pretty lamp but dreadful difficult design to maintain. Really admire your artistic endeavors. And your wisdom in waiting for the urge to paint walls passes. Same here.
Rita the pics but most of all your smiles.
Cindy good game!
Ginny safe travels!
Carol why didn’t you like the Jeep?
Rebecca oh that pic of Athena and Eli! Precious.
Michele what good PJ news!
Barbie “life’s opportunities for spiritual growth” makes me smile. Admire how you can see those opportunities and grow from them.
Welcome @ChellieIrish Chellie in Ireland and congrats and taking off 35 lbs.

Tracey - I think your Cri-Cut work is very impressive and professional. It is really hard to monetise these things, as you know. Have you thought about giving some small classes in your home? Just an idea. It would require advertising locally of course, and asking around. Or, now you have a teaching qualification, you could see if a local college wants to run classes. Just musing......
I've sent you the Instagram post I used for the tiny squares painting. It's something you could easily do with your granddaughter.
I also think they would make great home decorating pictures, in a set of colours toning with the furnishings. Or seasonal colours theme. It was quick and fun to do.
Of course, a lot depends on the framing of these things. A good frame can totally change a picture. Some bargain shops have decent cheap frames.
Strangely, I don't put many pictures on my walls. I like blank spaces, I have a couple of things in the dining room and in the downstairs toilet, and one in the hall. We have the batik in the living room. A Matisse cut out propped up in our bedroom, and a couple of my very old efforts in my bathroom. So we now have a huge pile of our paintings!!! Nothing framed or on the wall. One I gave away I painted for my son, which is going in his living room, and the beach hut one for my brother, which I will give him at the wedding. Only six months late!
Keep thinking we should have an informal exhibition and sell some, if anyone wants to buy them. Going cheap!!!

Heather: I know what you mean. The idea of the upheaval involved in decorating and DIY is rapidly losing its appeal. As we grow older, everything takes so much longer. Even pulling out the kitchen steps is often too much trouble. 😝 Maybe there is a local craft market or car boot sale that you could use to sell some of your work?
Tracey: That is a beautiful arrangement. With that sort of quality, the workshop idea could be worth thinking
about.
We have rain forecast for a few days. Damp and dismal! Ugh! May have to put the heating back on for a couple of hours a day.
We are going to visit DED after lunch, and may be picking up DEGS on the way there. DYGS is due to fly back to Uni in England shortly.
Tomorrow I have Creative Writing and Monday Painters. I have 3 new painters so am doing a watercolour workshop with them at the minute. Quite enjoyable , but a little draining too 😝
Welcome to our new folk. We’re a busy group, so don’t try to answer every post. Just jump in when something sparks your interest.
