Michele - What happened to the wife he married in Switzerland? I remember you went to the wedding. Then he left to live with her in Réunion. I know this has all been a deep wound for you for years. So sorry.
My friend G is in a similar situation, missing out on two grandchildren, who are nearly grown up. Sending hugs to you.
DH is feeling rotten. I keep trying to be sympathetic. I didn't get a lot of sympathy.
One of has to go out for milk. This is a standoff.

Lisa - Hooray for the pottery! The reason I haven't done any recently, was because I broke my wrist, plus, as you said, it is pricey. I have a cunning plan to sign both DH and myself up for an evening this term, and then I can pay for it on the joint account. He thinks he might enjoy it. I love throwing, which is magical, I feel.
Ceramics are one of my passions.
Sandy - can you post a photo of one or two of your creations?
Going downstairs in a minute to take DH a cup of tea and see how his cold is progressing.
The cleaner is coming today. I was thinking of going into town mid-afternoon, and looking in M&S for my voucher. Maybe towards a dress for the wedding, or maybe ankle boots. Then treating myself to sushi for early dinner, and then on to the Death Café. I can catch a bus from near the sushi place.
DH was worried about me leaving before the cleaner had gone, but I don't think that's a problem.
I have a lovely portion of beef stew in the freezer that he can heat up for himself.
Hoping it all works out. Heather UK xxxxxxxx
Heather thanks for asking 😊 these are two of my paintings. I’m no expert - definitely a learning process 🤣. The church one was done on wood which was harder than I thought it would be.
This was the first horse I’d done. Didn’t turn out exactly how I wanted but I learned from it. At some point I want to do another one better.

Ginny ~ So sorry to hear that you have gotten Covid again. I am wondering, do take all the vaccinations? We took the first one when it came out but we have not taken any since and have had no symptoms as far as I can remember. But, I have to keep in mind that we do not get out much and are pretty good about washing hands, etc.
Michelle ~ I have no idea what Bryan said to you that started all the anger. But, I must tell you that when my father passed away and left two of my brothers millionaires with businesses and land and my sister and I almost nothing, there was a lot of hard feelings and strife. After so many years have gone by, we have let the anger go and we are all glad to have each other again. Time and prayer can heal wounds.
Sandy ~ Glad to have you here. You will fit right in with us ladies as we all have so many different interests that teach us and keep us going.
Decided to quit procrastinating and gather the handbags, shoes, and coats that have been in closets since my mom passed six years ago to donate. Told my DH my plan and of course it led to a fight. He is so afraid to let go of anything even if it's not his. He has been this way all 54 years of our marriage concerning spending money.

Sandy ~ You are quite talented!0

Barbie - I keep forgetting to say how glad I am that they figured out what was going on with Jake's knee, and the right treatment to get him fixed. Hope his healing continues. Hope Bodhi's progression continues, as well. Thinking about all of you.
Allie - So proud of you for the walk with Alfie! I've found that the exercise I'm adding back in has a HUGE impact on my sleep. The more I exercise, the more and better I sleep. Every step you take with Alfie will help you get your sleep issues in better shape as well as your body--and bonus, it's really good for Alfie, too! Might help him settle down more on the barking if he's getting more exercise.
Ginny - Oh no! I'm so sorry... I know you were looking forward to seeing family, too. Hopefully a very light dose of covid, and hope the paxlovid, if advised, has less impact on the thyroid stuff. Take care of yourself, please! Proud of you for the hemming efforts.
Sandy - Nice pictures! I especially love the church painting.
Margaret - Loved the pics of you and DrewB! You look so serene and happy.
Barbara AHMOD - Hope the siding guy doesn't find the feared issues underneath, but I understand that particular dread quite well. With all the renovating Corey and I have done, we've not had many pleasant surprises when we take down coverings like drywall and siding. Hope yours is the exception.
Heather - Hope your day out goes as planned Sorry your DH isn't feeling well. The standoff for the milk made me laugh...
Annie - Thinking about your mom, sweetie. Glad you got her seen, and that they're paying attention to her heart issues, but really tough on you and your dad. Hope all's well.
Lanette - I've used wooden clothes pins for years for chip clips and anything else that needed clamping. Plus, of course, using them on the clothesline. More on prices in a minute.
Regarding food intolerances: It's so hard to sort between what's putting my stomach on tilt these days, between the medications and supplements and food. I have a sneaking suspicion though, that the rapid-fire gas issues are either caused or being made worse by iron, and now the Vitamin C they've got me taking to help absorb the iron. I'm still supposed to get 65 grams of protein a day, and both meat and dairy could well be the gas problem... plus fiber makes it exponentially worse, and unbearably painful, in the end (hah! Bad pun, sorry.) I just totter along the tightrope hoping it all works out all right.
More in a minute...
Love,
Lisa

Morning ladies
Nothing new here rainy day today and up 1/2 the night again
Then Alfie wakes me up early to eat.
I need to get some groceries but will make a list.2 -
Lisa - I won the standoff. But he saved face because he needed to call in at the repair garage to book an MOT.
Windy and rainy here. Lots of places in the West Country badly flooded.
Cleaner arriving.

Since the beginning of 2020, I've had at least 5 vaccinations for COVID, and of course, all the flu vaccinations in that time.
Plus 2 measles, 1 shingles, and I'm thinking there was something else as well.
It's all good!!
In addition, I avoid people, stand at a distance from people, wear a mask from time to time when there are lots of people around, and wash my hands all the time.

Machka - I saw the Bob and Brad video on "turning around" on Facebook. It's not on their YouTube channel from what I can tell. I've copied the link, not sure if it will open if a person doesn't have FB.
The little gal doesn't say how many times a person should practice it. It really made me stop and think about how something so simple gets so hard for folks who have balance issues for whatever reason. And how my mom's balance problems must have limited her in so many ways. I think you are right about having a strong core.
https://www.facebook.com/reel/1637346993454924
Ginny - sorry to hear the crud is back for round 2 so quickly. Sending hugs and wishes for a speedy recovery from this one.
Barbara - crossing fingers the siding replacement goes without a hitch.
Sandy - that church picture is my favorite, reminds me a little of Grandma Moses technique. So many talented artists in this group!
Lisa - Dr. Matt suggested I look into A2/A2 dairy. This milk is produced by cows who are homozygous for the A2 beta-casein protein which, for some people, is easier to digest than the A1/A2 which is found in most regular milk. I don't have digestive issues but I figured it's worth consideration. Note this is different than lactose intolerance.
Here's a link for a farm that specializes in this type of milk production if anyone is interested:
https://alexandrefamilyfarm.com/pages/what-is-a2-a2-organic-milk
The organic, non-homogenized dairy items produced by Alexandre Farm is uber expensive, but I found another brand at Safeway yesterday, homogenized and pasteurized, cost wasn't prohibitive. I made "fridge oatmeal" with it yesterday. I cook a big match of old fashioned oatmeal in milk, and after it's done (5 to 7 minutes to start to thicken) I take it off the burner and let it cool for a few minutes, then stir in a handful of frozen berries of some type. Blue oatmeal, lol. Stored in the fridge, it lasts for several days. To me, it's like having pudding onhand. I ate some after supper last night - no stuffy nose/plugged up ears symptoms, and that was without taking the DAO enzyme. Hhmmm.
Carol - what a huge job decluttering with your husband's desire to hang on to everything. Has he always been this way? Just curious, sometimes events change people's thinking and not always for the better. Intriguing how our minds work. Wishing you luck!
I spent some time on the sitting elliptical this morning after a month or so of not using it. Wow, how quickly those thigh muscles get out of shape despite all the walking, bending, and other activity I do. Lisa and Annie, you gals are an inspiration to me getting back into the exercise groove and building those muscles back up.
It will soon be time to head out for my sunrise walk. Overcast right now, and 55f.
Make it a wonderful week!

Sspell1958 – Are you SURE Zoe is only 12???? Beautiful. The rest of the clan is pretty good looking, too.
Rebecca – you were just helping the Canadians get ready for their Thanksgiving!
Made chocolate cupcakes for Vince and then icing for them.
Lisa – good for you signing up for a pottery class. Best of luck. Thank you for your kind words. Families can indeed change people, but I’m not holding my breath, especially since I don’t want to match my eyes (blue)
Allie – good for you getting out for a walk. And I’m sure Alfie enjoyed it (isn’t that what it’s all about?)
M – I don’t know how to make contact with Bryan. I don’t even know his address. THAT’S why I don’t contact him. Besides, he doesn't want to hear from me anyway. I've reached out so many times, and so many times he's ignored me.
Pip – I can’t believe Addison’s mom did that! What a wonderful thing you did and for her and for her mother to respond that way! Unbelievable!
Took a walk around the neighborhood then worked on the latest jigsaw puzzle. After this one, I’m thinking that I’ll probably go on to another craft. I just don’t want to always do the same old thing over and over
Off to beddybye. Work tomorrow and then bowling.
Michele NC
To clarify, I did mention that since she wasn’t going to be using them for walking that I may as well have them back and return them. Well I guess she heard that part3 -
Very verbose today... skip if you're not interested!
On pottery class: Oh my... we do push encourage each other to do things, don't we! I'm both pleased that I signed up for the pottery class and mildly horrified. I haven't been out and around strangers other than medical people for years! Not since I walked away from work in 2020, just a few weeks after my 60th birthday. I'm 63 now. I am honestly excited about learning something new again, it's been far too long.
Corey was both surprised and pleased to see me getting out again. Another sign that I'm healing, I guess. He's terribly alert to any changes in my well-being and will be watching closely to make sure I'm not over-extending. That kind of love could get burdensome, but I understand the worry after the last few years that he's been through with me. He's careful not to make me feel smothered, but I know he worries, bless him.
On the class itself:The list they show for the class is pinch pots, coils, slabs, and throwing on the potter's wheel, as well as how to decorate using underglaze and glazes, bisque and glaze firings in an electric kiln. While it is spendy, everything needed is included, so I don't have to buy any additional materials. It's something I've always wanted to learn and is the first time it's been offered in this area, so I couldn't have attended one before now anyway. One of the local medical colleges got a massive grant to buy the building and establish health and wellness programs, including community classes, so this is a real step forward for this area.Carol - I don't imagine the prices going up everywhere is helping your husband's mood on getting rid of anything right now. It's so hard when letting anything go is a fight, though--I'm proud of you for standing up for what you think should be done--it's not easy at all.
I have been reluctant to invest in the necessary tools and materials for pottery, in case it was one more of the crafts that I did not enjoy. Knitting, for instance, was a bust for me. I've crocheted since I was 13, but my knitting efforts somehow always turn into gnarled, sweaty balls of stressed-out knots and slipped stitches. The cost wasn't high for knitting though, just a couple of needles and a bit of yarn. We'll see what happens with pottery. I have high hopes...
One of my favorite books is The Complete Tightwad Gazette. It's the printed collection of a paper newsletter written by Amy Dacyczyn in the 1990s. You can still find it in various places online, and even a section of it on Kindle. I just re-ordered it in paperback from Amazon--mine was lost in one of the many moves over the years. Some of it is dated, but there are quite a few good suggestions. One of her suggestions was a price book so you can track as prices change from store to store on various items that you buy constantly.
Rising prices are part of life, in the end, but I really don't like the fact that, when the grocers do hold a price the same, you'll find out they've dropped the amount the box, bag or package contains. A "pound" of bacon is now 12 ounces, and the same for many other items. Bulk prices are often more expensive per ounce now, as well. Paying attention is the key... but then, it always has been.
I'll stop now...
Love y'all!
Lisa in AR5 -
Michelle ... very sorry to hear about your continued estrangement from Bryan. I would reach out to both Bryan and his girlfriend again especially since a new grandchild is part of the picture. If nothing else, sending a baby welcome gift is in order ... otherwise I fear you're going to have favoritism added to their perceived list of ill-will. Could Denise get you their address (or, if they're adamant that you not know where they live), could she mail something for you?
Sandy ... Welcome!
Today we're surprising my mom with a visit from her dearest friend and her husband who are traveling quite a distance to see her. I knew them as "Aunt and Uncle" although they were not relatives. I've reserved the assisted living facility's dining room and I'm ordering dinner although I don't know at what time they'll actually be arriving. It's a 6+ hour drive for them (their daughter is driving as they're both in their 90s). I get nervous about things like this so hoping it all goes well.

Hi Gals,
I can’t seem to do much more than read along and write comments in my head…. But I have a few moments to put fingers to the keyboard.
Welcome to all the newbies… jump in, read along, comment-question as you feel like, many of us have been together for over 10 years (I’m only at 9 years) so we have some slang and have history that lets us use shorthand, we are very willing to explain if someone is confused.
Lisa – pottery sounds like a great way to tip toe out into the world, while it is a class, the work is individual - Looking forward to hearing about it and seeing pictures of your creations.
Heather – all the painting creations are amazing love that you are getting the grands involved as well.
Sandy (I think?) the Church and horse are beautiful.
Tracey – the amazing paper crafts are wonderful.
Kylia – sorry your vacation is over, but glad you got the break.
Michele - I hear how broken your heart is missing your children and your grands. Since we can only change ourselves, I wonder if some counseling for you looking into ways to approach the situations differently would help? I understand that you are often venting here and your approach to them is different than to us here, but I wonder how much has seeped through and the children understand that you are disappointed and hurt.
Maybe I am resonating differently than I should because I see myself in your kids, I can never level up to what my mom wants me to be – and while she will tell you that she is a fair, loving mom – she can not see the hurt she has caused. I am also one of three, and in our own ways each has distance from Mom, and I know it hurts her. But I also know she will not even listen and accept that we are not who she wanted us to be. So I wonder if your children are feeling differently than you understand – and are doing distance because they don’t know how to approach you in a way that both you and they could repair the situation. Sorry!!! A lot of unrequested arm chair psychobabble - but just because I care and hate to see you hurt.
Allie – keep that walking up!!! Great job
Annie – sorry to hear about Mom – but you have your dad at the hospital seeing mom maybe you could get him evaluated at the same time?
Beth – hope your surprise goes perfect!!!
Barbie - I have been sending good thoughts to you and Jake, so glad that the Doctors were able to figure it out and that every thing is headed in the healthful direction.
Ok my typing window has expired! LOL maybe more later.
Love ya all,
Kim in N. California

1. Find time for self-care. It’s not selfish. It’s essential. Making time!
2. Notice the things you do well, however small. I will. Talking to campers, meeting dogs, electronics.
3. Let go of self-criticism and speak to yourself kindly. I will try!
4. Plan a fun or relaxing activity and make time for it. Did this already! Went for a long walk this morning.
5. Forgive yourself when things go wrong. Everyone makes mistakes. This will be hard because I tend to blame myself for everything.
6. Focus on the basics: eat well, exercise, and go to bed on time. Will Do!
7. Give yourself permission to say ‘no’.. I’m doing this more often now.
8. Be willing to share how you feel and and ask for help when needed. I will try to remember to ask for help when I need it rather than struggle and get frustrated.
9. Aim to be good enough, rather than perfect. This needs to be a mind change for me. Whenever I do something, I get upset if it is not perfect. I need to make it a point to accept what the result is while doing my best.
10. When you find things hard, remember it’s ok to not be ok. This is apt for today.
11. Make time to do something you really enjoy. I hope to go ‘window shopping’ today. Did this and colored.
12. Get active outside and give your mind and body a natural boost. Went for a 20 minute walk then the rain started.
13. Be as kind to yourself as you would to a loved one.
14. If you’re busy, allow yourself to pause and take a break.
15. Find a caring calming phrase to use when you feel low. “Breathing in,I am relaxing. Breathing out, I am relaxed.”
17. No plans day. Make time to slow down and be kind to yourself.
18. Ask a trusted friends to tell you what strengths they see in you.19. Notice what you are feeling without any judgement.
20. Enjoy photos from a time with happy memories.
21. Don’t compare how you feel inside to how others appear outside.
22. Take your time. Make space to just breathe and be still.
23. Let go of other people’s expectations of you.
24. Accept yourself and remember that your are worthy of love.
25. Avoid saying ‘I should’ and make time to do nothing.
26. Find a new way to use one of your strengths or talents.
27. Free up time by canceling any unnecessary plans.
28. Choose to see your mistakes as steps to help you learn.
29. Write down 3 things you appreciate about yourself.
30. Remind yourself you are enough, just as you are.

No luck in M&S. They haven't got their more formal wear in yet and the ankle boots did not feel good. I'm in their café having Earl Grey tea and an egg and cress sandwich with extra salt and lots of black pepper. My favourite treat to myself.
Sandy - You are very accomplished. Your details in the church picture are lovely.
So, I will wander down to Flying Tiger to look at cheap picture frames. Then along a bit for another small bite. Then bus to the Death Café.

I am finally caught up on reading. I wasn’t going to comment on anything but then decided to throw my two cents to Michele. It sounds to me as if Bryan might be softening some since he expressed hurt feelings that no one had congratulated him. I think that perhaps by no one, he meant you. There comes a time when you have to ask yourself if you’d rather be right or had you rather be happy. Sometimes we just have to sacrifice our own feelings for the sake of the relationship. I also realize that sometimes it’s just too painful to even try. Only you can decide which this is. Know that we are with you either way.10

Annie-I forgot to ask how mom is doing? I hope while she is there she can get a thorough check up.
Sandy-very nice paintings-I like the simplicity of the church.
Kim and Dr. Katie-good reminders that we have to engage in perspective taking. After doing that we have to do what is best for us-never easy decisions.
Waiting for pharmacy to notify that Paxlovid is ready for pick up. Doctor's office said ok to go into pharmacy if I stay masked and don't hang out. That is good because there are no close drive through pharmacies for me.
Spent morning napping. Warmed some soup for lunch. Don't feel too bad right now-off course staying on the couch and not moving helps!

MFP Weekly Check-in for September 18, 2023
RVRita in NM - Down 1 pound from last week! 39 pounds down from highest weight 26 pounds to go!
Kylia in OH- left for vacay at 125. came back from vacay at 125! I call that a win. another probably water due to eating out, but still a win. it does help that I. spite of my DH's love language being sweets, he is watching his sweets so buying less. 😍
Lanette SW WA State – down 1 pound but more importantly, I’m able to fit into some pants and sweats that I could barely tug on a month ago. Within a few pounds of weight goal range. Cutting out sugary and salty snacks, processed foods and bakery goods is paying off. Eating more nuts and fruit when cravings hit.

Rebecca--Eli is so cute. We got to meet our newest great grandson last evening. He is cute and looks a lot like his daddy when he was a baby.
Barbie--Great news Jake is home and doing so much better.
Tracey--Happy for you, that the doctor wrote that you can not go back to that job. Is there someone who you trust to pack up your personal stuff and bring to you, so you do not have to face that employee that is so mean?
Heather--Love the art work. What a great thing to share with the grandchildren.
Pip--Happy 27th !!
Michele--Sounds like you had a good visit with PJ and so happy he remembered you. I guess I am confused. I thought the last time you went to see Bryan was at his wedding. I would tell the mom of the baby that you would like to have a relentionship and share pictures of the baby. congrates on the new grandson.
Allie--A 10 minutes walk is a great start.
Annie--Prayers for your mom, dad and you.
Ginny--Sorry about the covid coming back.
We got to go meet our new great grandson yesterday. Just wish his parents could work things out, I keep praying and keep my opinion to myself.

I had a lovely time at the Death Café. A lot of the people there tonight are, or have been carers for their parents, or husbands/partners. We talked a lot about LPAs and Advanced Directives among other things. Brought back some left over chocolate cake for DH.
Before that I went to Wagamama, and had some healthy tiny plates of veggies and prawns.
Sat in the window and people watched.
A good evening, but I'm no nearer to deciding what to wear to the wedding. Not that it matters!
DH seems a bit better, so maybe he will escape the worst.

They will have refreshments, I think I will go and get her input on making sure I bought the right size for me. Will be from 6-8 tonight so it won’t be too late.6 -
Hobbies. I walk daily about 13,000 steps a day sometimes with leashed dogs,, line dance for an hour every Friday morning, knit blankets for Project Linus while riding my recumbent exercise bike and watching TV, read books, ebooks, and audio books. I do just enough housework to keep us clean and clutter free

Annie: I hope your Mom is okay and leaves the hospital soon.
Allie: Congrats on taking a walk!
PIPCD: You really did try with Amanda. Maybe you planted a seed for the future.
Carol: My husband never wanted to spend money either. I really struggled to know what we could afford and what we couldn't. He also didn't like to give things away.
Rebecca: I love the picture of the boys in their uniforms. Your early Thanksgiving dinner reminds me I want to put the Christmas tree up early. I am craving looking at the lights.
Michele: My relationship with my mother improved when I had my son. I guess we had more in common then and i really appreciated pictures she took of my son. I am keeping my fingers crossed that Bryan will at least send you a picture of the baby over the next couple of years. I agree that you should try and send a baby gift.
Sandy: Welcome, Congrats on having 5 grands, I do some gardening...just a little...and am part of a book group. I did explore pottery one summer. Right now I am learning to knit. Zoey is pretty and looks older than age 12.
Lisa: Great on getting some writing done1
Machka: So good of you to adopt a kitty with some anxiety. I am still a little nervous about touching the cats at the cat rescue. However one was very smart and managed to get out the first door 2x and I was able to pick him up and get him back inside. He is the first cat that has been so smart about getting out the door!
Chellie: Congrats on the weight loss and the roller skating!
Tracey: Beautiful arrangement. I went to an Eagles Concert years ago in Boston...it was outside and is a very nice memory.
Terri: I hope you enjoy creative writing. It is on my bucket list to take a creative writing course!
Ginny: Good luck cutting the material to hem the pants!
Heather: Every couple of years I have to go the doctors and have wax removed from my ears. I try and keep up on my own but sooner or later it requires a nurse to really put a syringe of water into my ears.
My father had the same thing.
Well my trip to the beach got changed to November because my son and DIL want to go and I found a place that will allow 3 dogs. I find this amazing. It is a modest place but has good reviews. I will put sheets on the couches. So this next week end I am going to a Garden that is 2 hours a way. They are having a pumpkin fest and a sunflower garden. I am ready to leave town and am looking forward to this.
I am enjoying the cooler weather. I imagine it will get hot again but for now it is a welcome relief. I sit outside and just appreciate my yard. I am hopeful that as the weather cools, I will be more active and lose weight. I have a wedding to go to near Boston next September 2024. I have a year to lose some weight for the wedding!
Best,
