Do you still drink milk?

Compared to all that, compared to all the starving people in this world, what's a baby cow in the balance?

Thank goodness I have a sense of humor. :-)0 -
I'm severely lactose intolerant, so I have cut back dramatically on milk. I have about 4 oz a day of Lactaid in my coffee and protein shake. for my afternoon coffee I use soy milk. I supplement with calcium pills.0

It's just weird - Besides humans (and companion animals who are fed by humans), no species drinks milk beyond infancy or drinks the milk of another species."
I enjoy being perched atop the food chain, and do not feel the need to compare my eating habits to those of other animals.
We are only the top of the food chain because we use guns/machines to kill animals to fight our way to the top. If you put a human in a cage with a lion/bear/etc with no weapons then you will see who is really the top of the food chain. All species should be equal. A cow should NOT have to live its whole life trapped it a horrible factory getting forcibly impregnated so you can drink nasty milk.
We have the ability to build and use those tools. I don't think you're very objective on this subject. I love animals as much as anyone and I am a vegetarian. But I'm also able to use reason and common sense.

Why do people who don't know facts always resort to being extreme? "Why don't we just go back to our hunter-gatherer migratory ways? Who needs a house?" Did I say that at all. No. I clearly said we DO NOT live in those times so eating meat is now unnecessary. We are more advanced and do not need to eat animals to survive. You really love animals? Go vegan. Plenty of animals suffer and die for the dairy and egg industry.

I wonder if you've ever actually been to a farm (dairy, chicken or otherwise). It's one thing to look at propoganda and another to actually see for yourself.
I grew up downt he road from about 10 dairy farms and had several family friends who owned farms where they raised chickens, cows, sheep, you name it. Even now, I live in a small metropolitan area surrounded by rural country full of farms. I see those animals daily. I am not uninformed.
I wondered this, too. I actually lived on a dairy farm for several years (we rented a house from a church member who owned a dairy farm). His cows were well cared for; they were out in the pastures during the day grazing, then they came in for milking. You could set your clock by their milking schedule. Every day about 2:00 in the afternoon, all the cows started heading toward the barn and lined themselves up at the milking machines. When they were done, they headed calmly back out to the field. When a calf was born, it remained with its mother until it was old enough to care for itself. I never heard baby cows screaming and being pulled from their mothers.
I think some of these propaganda sites like to use the worst example they can find to promote their cause. I agree there are probably some farms that don't treat their animals well, but I think they are probably in the minority.
I think people are more important than animals. Sorry to the vegans out there, but I don't think animals are on the same level as people. Doesn't mean people should be intentionally cruel, but if it's a choice between feeding my kids and making sure a cow is happy, I'm going to choose my kids.

Milk is for children under the age of 6. If you are older than that and drinking milk you should probably rethink that.
Huh? If a person doesn't have lactose intolerance and fits it in to their daily calories...what's the problem?0 -
I drink 1% organic milk. It is full of nutritious things for the body.
I bet most of the people who say, "you shouldn't drink milk" eat crap like mcdonalds
Not me! no fast food. (starbucks drive thrus occasionally where I only get soy milk) not really fast food... I don't use animal products at all... no meat/dairy/egg/honey/leather/etc.... So no fast food here! btw Almond milk is far more healthy then any milk... less calories and fat too! tons of protein/nutrients
Did you ever consider that Starbuck's coffee beans come from third world countries where farmers are actually still using pack mules and other beasts of burden? It is not fair to the poor animals to have to haul around loads of coffee beans all day so that you can have your latte with soy milk!!
Really thats the best you can do? Don't try to make me feel bad for what happens in some third world country that me being vegan doesn't effect either way. Starbucks coffee beans/tea are vegan. So back off. If you don't get dairy/whipped cream/certain drinks, it is vegan. Don't try to give me **** so you can feel better about supporting the meat/dairy/egg industry. Even if what you said is true (I couldn't find any website that said that) at least mules are not trapped in a factory their whole life then SLAUGHTERED for me to consume.

I am mainly a carnivore.. but i do believe that other animals are the same level of importance as us, after all we are just mammals are self..
But i do believe that we need meat, we are born to eat meat and therefore we should..
All we can do is try to kill our prey as humanly as possible and use as much of the carcass as possible so that nothing is wasted.. Thats why if i can afford it i will always try to buy organic or like farm reared meat instead of like chickens hung upside down with their beaks and wings clipped..
And i have a friend who is a vegetarian, who refuses to use it because of the cruel way of animals are killed, and she is really ill because of it.. And i know that in life the animal is just important as her.. but its like lion king and the circle of life lmao.. weve got to eat it..
anyway im rambling here, but you get my point.0 -

WOW okay well I have nothing else to say to you because you are beyond help. Okay so its okay to rape a animal (Forcibly impregnating something sounds like rape to me!) so you can drink milk meant for its child??? Some animals eat each other because some animals are carnivores, (Humans are NOT & don't need to be, plenty of protein/nutrients in veggies etc) they chase down the animal and kill it with their teeth/claws eat it raw thats nature, not going through a drive thru or buying a pounds of gross ground beef then cooking and seasoning it etc thats not nature. We are not cave people we don't hunt for our food, the animals don't have a fighting chance like in the wild, they are confined to filthy nasty factory's were they live out their short sad life's, then are inhumanely slaughtered. I really feel bad for people who have no sense of right or wrong or compassion for animals. You are no better then any animal they deserve to be happy and live free. They don't owe you anything they shouldn't have to suffer because people are awful. Ugh But I don't even know why I say anything because most people are to mean to care so whatever. Keep killing animals and torturing them because you have no conscience.
This post will probably get deleted, but here is my take on animal activists in general: If you live in a first world capitalist society, you're a murderer. You support military forces and economic policies that steal the bread from children's mouths all over the world, just so you can have a high standard of living. You support sweat shops and dictators and oil wars every day of your life. You're a murderer, and so am I. The fate of cattle shouldn't be the first thing on our minds when we're feeling compassionate.
Compared to all that, compared to all the starving people in this world, what's a baby cow in the balance?
Not that I want to get involved in this argument, but as someone who works on a farm as a living (sheep farm-though we don't milk the animals obviously, we do raise and sell them at sale barns-not necessarily for slaughter), I can say I take very good care of my animals. The rams and ewes that are here to stay come up to me and want me to pet them just like my dog does. They have more land to graze on then they know what to do with. When a lamb is born we have them stay in the barn for over a month with heat lamps to make sure they are taken care of. If someone is rough with my animals I do not allow it. We pay twice as much to have the sheep sheared because the guy that comes takes his time and is gentle with the animals. Not every farm is like the ones you see on the activist sites.0 -

What does feeding your kids have to do with anything? You could feed your kids more healthy and cheaper with a vegan diet. I spend way less money now then I ever did eating meat or dairy. I don't buy fake meat bull**** that is what is expensive, tofu/tempeh are super cheap and easy to make and very healthy. Plus your kids would end up better off being taught its not okay to kill a animal or torture them for food that you don't need.0 -
Milk is for children under the age of 6. If you are older than that and drinking milk you should probably rethink that.
Huh? If a person doesn't have lactose intolerance and fits it in to their daily calories...what's the problem?
I think based on the posted article that the point was most people are lactose intolerant and may not realize it (or may continue to consume dairy products despite the intolerance) because their symptoms aren't life threatening, merely uncomfortable or annoying.
Now, I'm of the opinion that if your body is annoying you, you've done something to it that it doesn't like. And who knows if down the road you could be creating a more severe problem for yourself by ignoring mild discomfort?
It happens I'm not lactose intolerant, though, not based on the listed symptoms. So hooray for me. Too bad I annoy my system with plenty of other things it doesn't like.0 -
What works for some of you, doesn't mean you have to push your beliefs onto others. To each their own, Drink cow milk, don't drink cow milk, eat meat, don't eat meat.... That is everyone's choice to make, so tonight when I throw my tenderloin on the grill long enough to knock the horns off it, that is my choice to make and I will wash it down with a glass of cows milk......... The OP just wanted to know who still drinks milk not if your vegan, vegetarian, meat eater, etc, etc..... . Just my two cents.....0

Wow! You totally lack a sense of humor. Well anyway... as others have said, though you consume only vegan products, you choose to solicit a franchise that markets NON-vegan products. Therefore, you are supporting those that support the very same industry of which you choose to boycott.0 -

OK, let me put it to you this way. You are stranded out in the middle of nowhere. There is no vegetation for you to partake of. An animal wanders across your path. The only thing you have to kill it with is a big stick. You either kill it and eat it or go hungry. What do you do?
I'm not slamming your choice to be vegan. If that's what you want to do, that's fine. At least you have the power of your convictions. But you have come on here and basically told the rest of us that our way is wrong and we are cruel, blah, blah, blah. We respect your right to eat the way you want to; all we are asking is that you do the same.0 -

I believe it, and it's one of the reasons I'd rather see family farms subsidized and let factory farms go the way of the dino, despite the extra costs that would be passed on to the buyers. Humanely raised animals are healthier and therefore are healthier eating. I don't know if they make better wool for wearing, but I'd be willing to bet they do.
I love animals, by the way, always have, and when I was vegetarian I was happy not to be killing any for dinner (even though someone else did the killing). Now I don't do well as a vegetarian, it makes me very sick, or I would happily go back to that lifestyle or even vegan if I thought it would be healthy for me. Since it doesn't work for me anymore, though, I choose my life first. It's not even a moral issue. Now cannibalism, that's a moral issue worthy of consideration. And the way this thread is going, we'll get to that next! :laugh:0 -

Would truly like to know your definition of extreme, you seem to be able see it all around yet be able not notice it in yourself. As far as being able to show credible research about why milk or dairy products are or can be good for you, there tons of links out just browsed through some myself. Feel free to look it up yourself. Now to be fair there are some that say they are just as bad. As you said can't fight facts, it just who's facts you want to believe.0 -
I have nothing against milk, but don't tend to drink my calories. I do use it on cereal and in smoothies.0

I cant drink dairy milk. :P My stomach wont allow it.
I love almond milk though.0 -
I drink soy milk. I think it tastes better and I am a vegan too0
-
Yes, usually two glasses a day -- although I sometimes replace the morning serving with fat-free yogurt.0
-
I drink almond, and rice milk. Have not had "regular" milk in years. I'm sure in moderation it's fine. Skip whole, and drink skim, 1% or 2%.0
