:Birdie----one of my favorite snacks is fresh veggies with hummus. Today one of my friends gave me a cucumber from her garden and I sliced about a third of it and spread spicy three pepper hummus on it---2 TBS hummus and 1/3 fresh cucumber= 65 calories When I first started this I got to feeling hungry awhile before meals and sometimes would watch the clock waiting for mealtime. Eventually my body got used to eating right. Congratulations on your weight loss. I’d use it to jump start September.
The Isagenix protein shakes we eat are so nutritious and sustaining that they satisfy us in ways that food never did. I’ve tried going back to my regular meals from time to time and I’m always hungrier than when I have the shakes. It makes meal planning a lot easier.

By the way, I thought your advise on goals was profoundly important.:flowerforyou: We DO have control over our behavior and not always the scale. So I thought , as a behavioral goal for this month, I would introduce new foods into my meal plan.
You mentioned hummus, which I'm not sure I've ever tried.:embarassed: What exactly is it? How do you make the Spicy 3 pepper hummus! And what are these Isagenix shakes that you talk about?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just so curious and you are doing SOOOOO well!

Happy Thursday!!
Did not win at bingo, bummer.
It is a beautiful day here with cooler weather and sunshine. :flowerforyou:
I have started back on track in doing exercise this month. I am alternating between my Wii Active and my elliptical. I am again starting to post my calories and am reclaiming my goals.
My son apologized to me but my opinions were thrown to the way side. At least he knows how I feel and hope he will make good choices in the future.
I never had hummus before joining this site and now it is one of my favorite snacks. I buy mine at the grocery store by the deli aisle. I use it as a dip with wheat crackers and I love it. I bought both the garlic and the tomato flavored. I also bought some skinny cow ice cream bars which I absolutely adore.
Have a meeting today, puppy class tonight.
Have a great day.
Sandy0 -
Birdie, you will loved hummus. I do A very healty snack, the best.
Sandy.... no win last night. Have fun with Daisy tonight. I didn't know you were a fan of hummus.. I love it but have not had any in a long time. I heard it was good as a spread on your sandwich instead of mayo or mustard. But havn't tried it yet. Think I will try it. I will have to have an open face sandwich for I only get 1 sl. of bread for lunch. I have tuna salad made up for lunch.
My reakfast was a flop this morning, I tried to make a latte out of my powder milk and Jay Robb shake mix I guess the hot coffee made the shake kind of gritty. And it is not a gritty shake. Wont try that again.

I was just checking my BMI to see how much weight I should lose to get into the "Healthy" zone. It appears I need to lose 50 lbs not 40 :noway: , so I changed it on my ticker:ohwell:
I don't want to lose too much because 25 years ago I got down to 135 LBS and I looked awful! :frown:
Now I have the age factor to deal with besides the "looking drawn". My face gets sunken in and I take on a masculine look because of my bone structure:frown: I don't want my skin to fall down to my knees:laugh:   Yet I want to be healthy :ohwell:
Here's to new goals:drinker: :drinker: :drinker:
Maybe the hummus will help:laugh:

Birdie, I buy hummus in the grocery store. some people make their own but it looks like too much work to me. I find in the refrigerated part of the grocery store near the fancy cheeses and dips.
Isagenix is a line of nutritional products. It is a cellular cleansing program that includes meal replacement protein shakes, a once a week cellular cleanse day, and a variety of nutritional supplements and snacks. Jake and I have been using the products since February.
:flowerforyou: Sandy, Jake just got off the phone with his daughter and said that she was the most opinionated, obstinate, hard headed person he knows. she is 32 years old and calls him for advice and then dismisses most of it.
:flowerforyou: Marie, You're right. I eat the same stuff every day no matter what. of course, we don't have family around here to invite us to holiday events full of food. tonight we're going to a birthday party where once again we'll have the opportunity to say no to birthday cake:laugh:
:flowerforyou: Phoebe, I hope you can get the rest you need and deserve.
:flowerforyou: Beth, I admire how you keep such a great attitude in a world of danger and boring food.
hugs to all

My plan for this week end is to:
Make sure I exercise everyday and if we are going somewhere add more time to my routine.
Make sure I drink tons of water.:drinker: :drinker: :drinker:
Have fruit and vegetables in the refrig. so I don't get hungry.
Have travel foods, like almonds, apples, low fat - low calorie snack bars etc.
What do you all like to have in the car for when you're traveling?
This Labor Day doesn't have to be a "LABOR" if we're prepared:laugh:
Thanks for all the advice on hummus. I'll have to pick some up:happy:
Also thanks for the recepies. :smooched:
Birdie:flowerforyou:0 -
:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
Birdie---mindless eating in the car has always been one of my downfalls. When I changed the way I eat, I stopped carrying food in the car "just in case I got hungry'. for a longer trip I plan my snacks ahead of time and have only my planned snack (hard-boiled egg, apple, sliced peppers and hummus ) available and eat only what I planned. Jake, as the driver, burns a lot more calories while traveling so he planned bigger snacks and we packed accordingly. We always carried a lot of water in a cooler.

I'm still around and still doing what I'm doing and continuing to maintain my weight.
Happy September to all
drink that water :drinker: :drinker:
Jake0 -
Good to hear from you Jake. And that you are maintaining your weight. that's a big job. I always heard it was easier to lose than Maintain. You are doing a good job My friend, Any new didhes lately?....Marie
Barbie as always doing a terrivic job. One of the sweetest lady on MFP. She does a good job of keeping us motivevated.
Marie0 -
just finishing up on the computer and about to shut it down. so I'll talk to you all in a week or so. I hope you have a great weekend. we will be on the road, but we don't mind so much. well, Jim does, it is football season and he would rather see the games live than listen to them on satellite radio. I don't do football, so it doesn't matter to me.. or basketball or any other ball, although I tolerate baseball fairly well.
Barbie and Birdie, you are real go getters along with Sandy and Marie, I'm proud of you all!!
I saw a lady who may have been around 65 or 70 years old in Wal Mart today.. she was so fit.. she had on a sleeveless top, and her arms were muscular, but not big. She looked great!
I still haven't tried hummus, coz I know I'll be the only one eating it.
take care all, and have a fun week!!0 -
Lots of activity here today.
Barbie, thanks for sharing Jake's conversation, at least I don't feel I have the only kid who doesn't like to take advice. Kids make me laugh because they think we don't know anything, like our experience is useless. Oh well, he will learn the hard way.
I really don't have any plans for labor day, I would guess we will end up at my step son's house for a cook out, unless we get some hot weather and go to the pool. If I had a choice I would just stay home and do what I want.
Phoebe have a safe trip, we will welcome you back on your return. :flowerforyou:
Jake what is your final weight? Your green arrow is covering the number? How tall are you? I am asking because my husband is about 5'10" and he is comfortable around 155 or 160. I think he is too thin but he does not. He works out everyday, not to lose weight but because he smokes and feels if he exercises it makes up for that terrible habit. :explode: He stopped drinking in February so he said he can't give up all his vices. :glasses:
And how tall are you Barbie, you have lost so much weight and your goal is so low. I am 5' 4" (used to be 5' 4 1/2 ") and would love to weigh 129 just to say I am under 130. If I lose anymore than that I would have Birdie's problem. It seems I lose the weight in my face first and then those over weight people start telling me I look old and I am too skinny.
Marie, you are beautiful no matter what you weigh. Just the fact that you try to keep yourself healthy is half the battle. Keep doing what you are doing, mostly just being our friend.
Good night,
Sandy0 -
Hi there Sandy, nice morning here. Had a good shower last night. How does Daisy take he storms?, Ca.
Sammy still do like them, Caliecat could care less.
We are off to make a mini run to the store to oick up bread and milk. Other than that no plans. Will get some food cooked today to last 2 or 3 days. Alice will be out Sunday and She and I will go shopping and out for lunch. Alice and Jim met online and it turned out very well But it could have turn out the other way. they been married 8 years now. Jerry don't even know how to turn the computer on much lest used it.
Ellen been missing you.
Phoebe off on her job angain.
Barbie still a dieters best friend.
Barbs out walking to Texas to see me.
Jeffrey, Still looking.
Jake , still cooking for barbie.

Marie0 -
:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
Sandy, Jake is five feet 6 1/2 inches tall. His weight has been staying between 145 and 147. I'm five feet three inches tall (used to be 5 feet 4 inches  ). I don't know if my goal of 118 is realistic but I still have a lot of padding on my thighs that I'd like to get rid of. I just smile at the people who tell me not to lose any more weight or say that I'm disappearing. Nobody where I live now had ever seen me under 175 pounds so whatever I do, I'll look wrong to them. I think it will take a year or more before people get used to me at this new weight.
:flowerforyou: Marie I sent a message to Elli because I looked at her blog about her house and found out that she had finally moved in. She says that she'll be back on MFP soon. Have you looked at her blog? If you need the address I'll send it to you in a personal message.
We have no plans for Labor Day. All our friends are retired so holidays where everybody else has a barbecue seem to pass us by. For us, either every day is a holiday or no day is a holiday.
Jake's off to the golf course and I'm off to line dance this morning.
hugs to all
Barbie0 -
Barbiecat , do send me Elli blog address. I did have it but did not save it. Don't know why. I mussed her and Sandy chatting with one and another. Two of a kind. In a very nice way.
I pick me up some hummus at the store this morning. So I will have a snack of cucumbers and hummus as a snack during the football game. I haven't got my food chart work up yet but will soon. It really helps me a lot.
Get ready for a nice holiday. Even if it is the same old same old. Have fun everybody.
Marie0 -
Thanks Barbie, you and Jake are shorter than and my husband so now I understand why you have such a low goal. You are doing great and Jake is doing great maintaining. I wanna grow up to be just like you. Yes, yes, I know Barbie is younger than me, I was just joking.
Marie, I miss chatting with Elli also, but she has been busy with her house. I went to the site to see how it looks after all the remodeling and it is beautiful. I wonder if her son is home yet. Darn, I went to the stor and forgot to buy some hummus. I love it for snacking. :drinker:
Bought a new pedometer since I lost my free one at bingo. This is a little better one and hopefully it keeps me walking along with exercise.
Almost time to make dinner, tonight we will have spaghetti and sauce, no meat, with a salad. I have pretty good all week except I have been forgetting to do my calories on my home page. :ohwell:
Will talk with you tomorrow, everyone have a great weekend and great holiday.
Sandy0 -
Hi everyone. Wow, it seemed like a busy week. I guess it is a 'settling in' week. I didn't lose this week but happyily didn't gain either. I was up in the middle of the night with Neil and then slept late so missed breakfast. I was very hungry for lunch but the single bonus is that I get to have my breakfast in the middle of the day. I stopped at the fruit stand and bought some wonderful plums and cherries so that is my lunch. I also picked up some fresh corn for dinner. I could make my whole meal out of corn on the cob, the others not so much though. Neil's friend is physically recovering, I am sure the other will take awhile.
Glad Pheobe dropped by on her short time at home. I lost Elli's blog address but look forward to seeing some pics once she has time to stop by.
Take care everyone. Be back soon. Gayla0 -
Gayla, Just keep right on doing what you are doing . soon you will be losing again. I don't expect a ;oss this week after the 5 lbs last week. , Glad to hear Neil/s friend is doing better. Wish him the best.
Barbiecat, I am getting a whiz at this foil packet cooking. I like using walton Farm BBQ Sauce, it has no sugar, no calories and no carbs. Last night I had a chicken breast, Cut up some onions and pick a few bell peppers out of the garden and some of the BBQ sauce. I put the sauce on the chicken then added my veggies, Cook for about an Hour. It was so good. Also had a salad. Wish I had cooked 2 then i would have my dinner cooked. I think tonight I will fix a chicken Pizza like that.
Everyone have a wonderful Saturday. We are having the cable co. out today to get our new DVd and VCR hook up to the TV. We have had it a copular months now and Jerry was unable to hook it up.
See you guys later.

:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
Marie, thanks for posting the picture of you and your walker and your trike. It looks like another way to show your goal
"From walker to trike"
The three day weekend doesn't mean anything to us except that I have to remember that the bank and post office will be closed on Monday   We woke up this morning to terrible wind. Bernie, the cat, kept going in and out hoping that the weather would be different the next time he went out. Actually the weather did change and Jake and I went for a 70 minute walk. I wore a sweatshirt over my regular shirt and had to take it off about 10 minutes into the walk and never had to put it on again. It rained for awhile around lunch time but then cleared up so I could take the dogs to the dog park around 2:30. There were a lot of people and dogs there and Brandy and Sasha had dogs to sniff and play with. When I took the dogs for a short walk around the park there were so many leaves on the ground because of all the wind that it looked a lot like autumn.
I joined another thread called "trim by turkey day". We have a water drinking challenge now and will weigh in every Thursday toward meeting a goal we've set for Thanksgiving.
It is so much easier for me to plan my meals ahead of time and then stick to the plan so when meal time and snack time come around I just get what I planned and don't have to make any decisions.
I had planned to take a nap today but somehow the time got away from me so I guess I'll just go to bed early instead
hugs
Barbie0 -
Marie, love your new pictures!!! You look exactly like you sound, beautiful and cheerful. Your trike is great and you have a fancy walker. I like your goal idea but I have been stuck at losing the last two pounds forever. :grumble: I am working on it harder though and have been exercising and walking along with trying to watch my calories.
Yesterday we went to a big Italian Fest in our area that is well known. They sold the food in little sample cups so needless to say I am sure I overdid my calories. I did try to sample the healthier of the foods but even so I am sure I was over. Barbie, I am using a pedometer now and after exercising for 45 minutes on my elliptical yesterday I then put it in my pocket for the day. At the end of the day it read 29,000 steps so I know that had to be wrong. My son said it works off vibration so it isn't always accurate. What kind of pedometer do you use? I am thinking of buying another that I saw at Target that is tiny and fits in your pocket but I need more advice. How do you convert your steps into calories? On tthe Walk across America site, since it is virtual we just drop the last two numbers and those are the miles walked. I can't find anywhere to convert steps into calories so I was hoping you could help me.
Have a great Sunday everyone, it is kind of a gloomy day here which is sad for those people who were planning on having outdoors cook outs today. We will do our normal Sunday of going to my step son's for dinner, he cooks on his grill all year long no matter what the weather is. (at least most of the time)
Talk with you later,
Sandy0 -
Never mind Barbie, I did find a site to convert steps into calories.
http://walking.about.com/library/cal/uccalc3.htm
Please check it out for me and tell me if you think it is pretty accurate?
Thanks so much,
Sandy0 -
:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
Sandy,
Jake bought an Omron HJ-720ITC
He carries it in his pocket and it counts steps and calories and remembers what you did in days past. When he and I walk together his pedometer records slightly fewer steps than mine (he takes longer steps so when we walk together we walk the same distance but I get more steps  ).
a woman on another thread i post on has the same pedometer and she loves it.
They both ordered theirs through Amazon. They cost about $30.00

I posted some new pictures of my breakfast this morning,of toast. strrawberries and cottage cheese. Jerry on the three wheeler and me with my walker. and Sammy all around us. And Uncle Sam Jerry made a few years ago.
Marie0 -
:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
Marie, your breakfast looks yummy. Now that you've got this picture taking and posting figured out, there's no stopping you.
I hope the weather in Texas is better than the weather in northwest Washington. We have rain this morning. It didn't start until I had walked the dogs:bigsmile:   so we didn't get wet. i had big plans for taking a walk today but the only way I'll probably get to do it is to walk around either WalMart or Costco for an hour
can I do that and not buy anything
hugs
Barbie0 -
Hi, have been out to lunch and in my profile is my lunch. I had carrots, , green beans broccoli and black eyes peas/. i had pork chops and they were so tough had to send them back.0

Marie
I didn't read your post that closely before looking at the pic of your breakfast. That cottage cheese sure looked like whipped cream--had me drooling!!
You mentioned a few posts ago that I was "walking to Texas to see you." Well, if you keep posting pictures like that one, I might have to!!!
We are getting the same crummy weather here that Barbiecat is. I am about 200 miles south of her. I managed to avoid getting wet so far this morning, but the wind is blowing our first fall leaves around with great enthusiasm. Pepper is "helping" me with this post by resting his head on the edge of the laptop. This is an improvement over his usual activity--plopping himself in my lap on TOP of the computer when I am using it. Maybe he is getting to be "smarter than the average bear", as Yogi use to say.
I am going to attempt some housecleaning today along with a nap, before I go to my parents to have dinner later today. Hope everyone has a good holiday. I will be "laboring" on Labor Day, but at least it will be at time and a half plus holiday pay.
