    Marie,

This talk about "walking to Texas" got me to thinking, so I found a site that measures the distance between two cities. It is a tool on the geobytes site.

Anyway, it is 1643 miles, so at 31 miles a week, it would take me 53 weeks to get there, so don't buy the ribs just yet, it will take me a while!! , but when I get there, a big glass of Jack Daniels and lemonade sounds good!!!

Maybe I should think about walking to Barbie and Jakes. It is only 163 miles to there, according to the geobytes tool, so that would take me just over 5 weeks at 31 miles/week.

Barbie cat, I order one of those step counted you said Jack has. I should get it this week end thru Amazon I I counted my steps tonight and I got 300 steps . I have been doing that for 3 or 4 weeks now. So x 3 that is 900 steps. Not counting my shopping and eating out at lunch And messing around the house. Posted a picture of my Dinner tonight on my profile.

I notice on my profile it does not say view my food dairy like I see on others....Marie

    Marie,

You won't see the "view diary" button looking at your own profile, but it is there. I just looked. Getting one of those step counters, aka pedometers, gives new meaning to the term "stepping out" doesn't it?

    Good night for now.

I too ordered the pedometer from Amazon. It looked like a really good one that has to be better than the one I am using. I only did 2950 steps today but I also exercised for 45 minutes. We went to my step sons for dinner and I decided to walk home with Daisy and let my husband drive home. As you can tell from my steps they don't live too far from us, I am going to say a little over a mile. Daisy is really getting into the daily walk so I am glad I have a purpose with the pedometer now. Thanks Barbie and Jake.

Good dinner Marie, your food pictures make me hungry.

    Hi All,
I hope everyone enjoyed their 3 day weekend... We got a FULL day off... I loved it and we are getting a half day off this Friday to take care of sending things home by mail if we need to and basically just goof off, go the the Bazaar and things like that.
Marie I will send the present to you that day... so it may take a bit to get there I havent sent a package from here as of yet... the kiddo wanted jewelry and I will carry that home... everything else is going home in a footlocker type box.
We run out 9-11 run on Friday (kinda stands to reason) that is about 5.66 miles and then I run the half marathon a day later... on the 13th...I just want to run it in 2 and a half hours and I will be happy. I looked up the calories I would burn if I run the whole thing and used my previous weight and it was 1657.42 calories my new weight was 1381.19 calories...I see a waffle at the end of this run... thing is I have to get done in 2.5 hours or there is no breakfast since I will have to take a shower before I go to the chowhall... now that ladies and Gentlemen is incentive... tuna kit for breakfast really doesnt sound good... might go to the Chowhall and get sandwich fixings the night before and put them in the fridge :) JUST IN CASE.
I hope the pedometers work well for you all I have a watch that does the same thing for my running... it was a tad expensive at 50.00 but it will help me keep track of every mile time for my races. It has a pedometer built in but I am not sure how to use that :blushing: I am not a techno person.
    Have a wonderful day

Hi Beth, what a plesure to find you here this morning. Sounds like you have a nice Friday coming up. do there Bazaar sells local craft. I was so dissapointed one year when we went to Mexico. I thought I would run into a lot of locale crafts there. But it was all imported from china and such not a thing local.
Wanting to make me a new jacket. Think I will make a tripp to Walmart and see what kind of fabric I can find. I am really thinking about a Christmas vest.

I am planning on drinking Jay Robb's shakes today. take a break off from cooking. On my walk this morning I will make 2 tripps to the end of the street and get 600 steps in. That will give me 1800 steps a day. besides my usally steps i know Its not much but it sure is a good start.

Sandy, Dogs loves to go walking. Good for you for taking Daisy. Sammy knows when 5:30 gets here and he starts to get me and Jerry rounded up for our walk. Don't think dogs don't communcate with us for they do. My oother dog that we just lost last year, Angel we walk everywhere together rain or shine. And Caliecat right behind us. Now calie don't follow us too much now. for Sammy wont leave her a lone. But she is out there with us staying out of site. I really missed my long walks but I am going to do the best I can. I loved to go walking on our Walking paths here in Mesquite.

Stayed active and eat a good well balance diet

Hi friends! I'm happy to be back! I've missed you all. I read a few of the posts - Barbie!!!! You have lost SO much weight! I remember when you broke 40 pounds. You're doing awesome! Oh and you look so THIN in your new picture!

Marie - i hope soon you'll move from the walker to the tryke!

Barb -i'm seriously suggesting you walk to Barbie and Jakes instead of Marie's!

Hey Sandy - i'm in the same boat as you, still struggling with my 3 pounds. Of course, I haven't been doing all that well so i'm grateful i haven't gained.

BETH! You must be getting ready to come home yes? If i remember right it's October and you talked about getting con exs ready! Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!

I moved back home! tomorrow is the final inspection - it should go all right - i got the temporary 30 days ago - they just need to check the furnace and the shower in the master bathroom. I LOVE the house - it was worth it - just a LONG process!

My son and his wife just got back from Hawaii yesterday - they had a 2 week vacation after he came back from Iraq. I had their 2 little dogs for the 2 weeks. No everyone is gone and things are too quiet! Just me, Hercky, Billy and Bonnie! It's going to be weird to walk with just the 3 of them and not the grandpuppies also!

I went to the gym today for the first time in months - now i just have to get back to not eating so much! I've been doing too much cooking in my new kitchen! If anyone wants to see the finished house i put 2 new slide shows on the blog - it's ellisnewhouse.blogspot.com.

I hope everyone is doing GREAT!

thank you for the warm welcome back Marie! I'm trying to get back into the swing of things! I went to the gym today for the first time in months AND walked my 3 dogs for about 40 minutes. I miss my little grandpuppies!!!!!!! lol:tongue: I'm SO glad my son is home from Iraq - what a weight off all of us. We still pray for everyone else over there - a good friend of theirs left a week after Dillon got home. So glad Beth will be heading home soon!
Thank you ALL for your support!

HI Elli, so glad you are back!! The house looks great and so do you!! How wonderful it must be to have your son back home.   Taking care of those grandpuppies must have been wonderful, I am sure they will visit often. Where is your son and his wife living, is it near you?
Now that summer is almost over and we can concentrate on our weight loss, I am sure we all will be bck in the swing of things soon. I need you to help me shed these last two to three pounds, it is just so frustrating. :grumble: Of course I do have to admit I have been cheating more during the summer but now that September has arrived I have been working hard. (except for maybe today when we had a cook out at my step sons.) I know I am not drinking enough water so I hope to up that to at least 8 glasses a day.

Our holiday was good but I am glad to be home to just relax tonight. Hope everyone else had a good one.

Marie, you are the wind beneath my wings.

hi Sandy! oh thank you for looking at the blog on my house! I'm loving it! I like your new picture too with hubby! You look GREAT!
These last few pounds are SO stubborn aren't they?
My son is stationed at Ft Carson, Colorado Springs which is AWESOME! They're only about 3 hours south of where i live! I feel SO lucky!
Friday my younger son, Dakota and his girlfriend Katie and i are heading to southern Colorado for my nieces wedding - i think after THAT life is REALLY going to get back to normal and i'll get serious about the last few pounds! It feels great to be back! Can't wait to catch up with everyone!!!!!!!

Hi Elli! I am so glad your son is back... I should be back the middle of October... I am ready!!! It's starting to get cold here... it was only 45 when I went to PT this morning... It better be only 45 when I run Friday and Sunday too... I don't mind being hot but why suffer needlessly :)
Your son is lucky Wish I was stationed in Colorado...I like VA but LOVED CO Springs. I hope the rest of you have a wonderful week... I need to actually go and get some work done...I have a lot to do before my replacements get here... I did however manage to talk the Captain into not having PT from now till we leave :) that means more run time for me!!!!

:flowerforyou: Barb---maybe I should walk south to get you and we can walk to Texas together. Marie has the really beautiful food and the farther south we go the better the weather.

:flowerforyou: Marie---I know you’re going to like your step counter. The great thing about a step counter that remembers your steps from day to day is that you can see how you improve each day so even if you start at a thousand steps you can see yourself improving. If you keep taking pictures of your meals soon you can make a menu of “Marie’s Healthy Home Cooking” I love being at restaurants with menus that have pictures. The great thing about your meals is that they are low calorie, low s:bigsmile:soon you can make a menu of “Marie’s Healthy Home Cooking” I love being at restaurants with menus that have pictures. The great thing about your meals is that they are low calorie and low sodium, and thanks to MFP you know the nutrition information for them. I let my cats out in the morning before I walk the dogs and they like to come over to the hill and tease the dogs “Ha, ha, you’re on a leash and we’re not”

:flowerforyou: Sandy, it looks like we’ll all be “stepping out” now that you’ve ordered your new pedometer. My step counter adds some steps when I’m on the stationery bike but Jake’s doesn’t. I love your new picture with your husband.

:flowerforyou: Beth, I’ll be thinking of you on Friday and Saturday running your 5+ and 13+ miles. I’m also excited thinking about you getting things ready to come home. Where are you coming home to? Your profile says you live in Virginia. Is that where you’ll be? I keep readjusting my pedometer as I lose weight and I have to remember to not be disappointed at the lower calorie count for the same number of steps.

:flowerforyou: Ellie, it is so great to see you back on MFP. I’ve been watching the progress on your house on your blog but it’s so much better reading actual messages to us on the Senior Golden Sneakers. We have all missed you a lot. We’ll all be cheering as you lose those last pesky pounds. I’m glad your son got home. That’s especially good news.

I started composing this at 7:30 and then Jake announced that he needed more steps and exercise calories and was going to take a walk so I put on my shoes and went with him. We walked about two miles through our neighborhood and got back after dark.

Hugs to all

    Barbiecat,

You weren't the only one out wandering the streets in the dark. The company brought in multiple Roundtable pizzas for all of us unlucky Labor Day workers. There was still some left at the end of my afternoon shift, so I decided to make this a zig zag calorie day and I took a couple of small pieces and called it dinner. Then I came home, took the dogs out for about 20 minutes, and after feeding them, I took off myself from about 7:45 til 8:40. There are lots of streetlights, which is fortunate as it is basically dark around here by that time, as you know.

I think I like your idea about going south to Marie's. I wonder if we can get her to make us some low fat low sodium Texas barbeque??

It is late, so I will close. I ended up staying at 35 lbs lost for Labor Day, so that is the way it goes.

Barbiecat i an harly wait to get my pedomitor. I did walk some extra stepts yesterday morning I was counting them in my head but Jerry said something to me and i lost my count. The other 2 walks during the day was my regular ones, Too hot at noon to enjoy walking and after dinner too tired to go very far. But al in all had a very active day. i am proud of this old grannie.

Starting to feel like old times again with everyone having a little extra time to post.

I like counting steps now that I am into it, I can't wait for the new pedometer so I get an accurate count.
With alternating exercise between the elliptical, the Wii Active and I think I am going to add the stationary bike and counting steps I hope things will start changing and I can lose those last few pounds. I also have to increase my water and watch my calories a little better, but as my post says "one day at a time".

Beth, my daughter used to live in Virgina, not to far from DC. It was really beautiful there and I think that was her favorite place. She lives in Minnesota now and she hates the weather. Good luck on your run and stay warm. We will be counting the days with you until your return.

Must be something with the name Barb or Barbie that makes you girls walk so much. You both are doing awesome in your goals. And I love your sense of humor Barb. Barbie you are so nice with your posts you make us all feel special.

Elli, thanks for the compliments, you look great yourself. :flowerforyou: Three hours isn't too far for you to visit your son and his wife, how nice is that? Have fun at the wedding, I bet people who haven't seen you will tell you how wonderful you look, did you get a new dress to show off your new body??
We will conquer those last few pounds together, I have missed you.

Marie, you give us so much encouragement that we love saying nice things about you. Should we ask Jerry if you are as nice as you seem? (just kidding) Yes, maybe you should go into publishing your recipes and pictures, while you are losing weight and getting healthy, you could make some money. :glasses:

Today is my card game, won't be doing much walking there, but hopefully will take Daisy for a long walk after dinner. Have a great day everyone.

Sorry I've been MIA for the last few days. Hope everyone's Labor Day Weekend was as enjoyable as mine! Haven't had time to read the posts since Friday but will try to catch up today!
Sat. Russ and I left early for Block Island (off the southern coast of RI). I did the treadmill before I left and took some supplies  so I wouldn't fall off the wagon! (Barbie, I was very careful not to bring too much, just measured snacks) I did real well! We walked the beach at Block Island (briskly) for 2.5 hours burning some calories and having the time of our life! The scenery was beautiful! We went out to eat and I balked at the menu, :noway: Everything seemed fried and every salad seem to be chuck full of extra nuts, cheese etc. But there was a special! Seared Salmon on top of greens. I asked for 1 roll and the dressing on the side.
The next day we went to a cookout which I only had salad, because I ate before I went and yesterday I stayed home to do housework and laundry.
I think I only went 40 cal over on Sunday because I couldn't exercise. The heel off my foot was sensitive and hurt a little from all the walking Sat.etc. so I didn't want to push it. Sometimes you just have to take a break:wink: Because I did that, I could exercise yesterday and today:happy:
I BOUGHT SOME HUMMUS AND I LOVE IT! (garlic & chive) I also got some melba crackers and now need to get some cucumbers so I don't have to use up so many calories each time I have it.
Today I'm back to work and it's very slow, so I try to catch up on everybody!!!

hey everyone - wow, it's good to be back here posting my food, exercise and talking to you all!

Sandy - i feel So blessed having my son home from Iraq, and he and his wife a mere 3 hour drive! And my younger boy and his girl are just 30 minutes away! It was SO amazing to have all 4 of them here for food and fun!

I didn't get a new dress or anything - this will be a very casual, mountain hippie wedding (just my style!) so i'm sure i can find something to wear. I'm so hestitant to buy ANYTHING after moving out and moving back in and getting rid of so much. I don't want to start cluttering up already you know?!
Anyway - i'm pretty sure i don't look much different - i have actually been around this weight for almost 3 years now - for awhile i started to gain it back (that's when i joined mfp last Feb) but got a grip at 12 pounds. WHEW!

Hi Birdie - i haven't "met" you yet! Sounds like you've gotten some very good advice from our superstar (that would be Barbiecat) and you're doing amazing! I have a tough time when i get out of my "routine". Don't hurt your feet! I suffered with foot problems for about 4 years and it was SO debilitating! Don't forget to listen to your body and take a break when you need to!

Have a good night everyone, i'm off to get my haircut. I did get a walk in with the dogs, i'm SORE from the gym yesterday! Think i'll take a steam shower tonight. boy o boy do i feel spoiled!

The weather has been cool here and I got my wool sweater out of the bag in the back of the closet and wore it in the morning and evening. I had Jake take my picture. If you look at the other pictures on my profile you'll see what that sweater looked like when I knit it more than 50 pounds ago. The picture on my post is what the sweater looks like today. I'm really going to like wearing it.this year

We took our walk at 4:00 today so we didn't have to deal with darkness.

We have to get up early again tomorrow so we're off to bed early.

    hugs to all:heart::heart: :heart: :heart:

Boy, Barbie, What a difference in the two gals wearing the red sweater. Doesn't seem like the same person.

Elli, nice to meet you:laugh:
I looked at your profile and it looks like you've done some nice work on that house!
I am glad your son is back from Iraq. We all pray for those who are still overseas.

Beth glad you will be home in October. As you run to the goal of returning to the homeland, I wish you luck in your other running events. May God keep you safe!

Sandra I love the new picture. It's so nice to see the people we hear about!

Marie I enjoyed the pictures. I also think you should make a cook book. With yummy meals like that, you'd surely have a following!

Going to see mom tomorrow to see if I can get her online with us. Wish me luck:love:

   It's 11:15 pm time for bed.

Sweet dreams and talk to you all tomorrow. I'm getting weighed in the AM and a little apprehensive but I'll do it anyways. Let you know how I make out. I hope I'm up peeing all night, that might help the scale:laugh:

A very quick hi to you all. I haven't forgotten about you, only that life has been a bit busy the last few days. Neil's surgery is tomorrow so we are in a rather high stress mode here. Neil has had a few meltdowns but they haven't lasted for more than a couple of hours at a time, which is a very good thing. I know he is feeling stress, he doesn't connect it. I have been trying to keep him relaxed. I did the foot scrub before he went to bed tonight and hope that he sleeps well. We have to be at the hospital at 11 am but his surgery isn't until 4pm!!! They are killing me!! I am prepared for hungry and cranky. I will offer him some jello early in the morning but after 8 he is done. Please keep him in your prayers.

So glad to have posts from Beth and Elli. Good luck on the run, Beth and your safe return home.
Elli -- I checked you blog and the house looks wonderful. You did a great job and you have wonderful friends.

Marie -- You sure turned everyone on to hummus. It is good so not surprised. My cucumbers are nearly ready in the garden so I better either make some or buy some to include in my lunch. Stress has got me once again and I have not had a great eating day.

Hope everyone else had a wonderful weekend. Back soon. Gayla

A quick hi to all. I lost another 2 lbs! t:love::love: That's 10 lbs since 8/14/09 and I've been eating all my calories! It seems like I've lost my ticker though. :frown: I changed the measurment progress on the ticker, saved it, then all I see is the change, not the ticker. Maybe it takes time?
Also, in my goal I want to lose 2 lbs a week and everytime I go into change goal and put 2 lbs a week, the plan comes up for 1 lb a week. Oh Well:ohwell:
Got to go exercise before work so have a great one. I'll try to check back later

Wow Birdie - you're doing great! Keep it up!

Gayla - sorry Neil is having another surgery - I'll keep him in my thoughts today. I hope the long wait isn't too awful! Sheesh, i can't believe they're making you wait 5 hours in the hospital!!!!!!!!!!:noway:

Barbie - I LOVE the new picture in your sweater. You look 10 years younger and beautiful!

Thank you everyone for the compliments on my house and the warm welcome home thoughts for my son. August was a really great month for my family and i am forever grateful. Thank you also for keeping all the Soldiers in your thoughts and prayers. Now my "adopted" son is over there:frown: It's what these young people "do" and i am always so thankful. I don't know if i've said it recently but THANK YOU BETH!

I don't know WHAT my problem was yesterday but i just ate BAD! I'm back on track this morning. I have the closing for my permanent financing this afternoon and after that my plan is to go to the gym. I am so SORE from going back! it's a good pain tho!

    Have a great day everyone!

Birdie, that is amazing, I want to grow up and be just like her. I can't believe her legs, she is really beautiful.

Gayla, I hope the surgery is going well and Neil will be on the road to recovery soon. And what is the big idea of beating me in farkle??

Elli, you know that is our downfall, since we only have a few pounds to lose we think it is okay to eat what we shouldn't. Then we get mad at ourselves and have to pick ourselves up by the boot straps and start over. It is a vicious circle but if we had control like the two Barb's we would shed those pounds in a hurry. I went back to exercising the first of the month and although I am not losing I feel better. Don't forget muscle carries weight.

Marie, hope you are having a wonderful day. So proud of you for getting a pedometer and counting steps.
Don't worry about how many steps you take, just do what you can do without hurting your legs or getting too tired.

Bingo night, hope I win some money.

    Have a good one.

Well gang, we are home! After all the prep, foot washings last night and this morning, more blood work, etc. his surgery was cancelled. The Dr. came to chat with us. Neil's PTT was elevated enough that it caused a concern for post-op bleeding. So now we start the investigation as to why his blood clotting is impaired. I have a zillion thoughts of possibilities going through my head, none great but just have to relax and wait for our appt. with the hematologist to sort this out. Neil was very disappointed but understood that we couldn't go ahead when the risk was just too high. His Dr. said he may be able to get him back in within 3 months if the hematologist gives the go-ahead. That just doesn't leave enough healing time for our Feb. holiday so it looks like we will be waiting until after the holiday. We were so hopeful that he would be done with foot pain.
I have a headache and am going to go have a nap. Doesn't that solve everything??
