Happy "Last Day of September" to all!!!  This month has taken us all on a variety of journeys, some good  and some not so good:frown: But tomorrow starts another month and that means the foliage is creaping in (at least here in RI)
May October bring us all strength, fortitude and joy!!!

:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: It is cool here also. I bought two sweaters yesterday. I took Jake shopping with me and he saw a gray sweater and said he thought it would look nice on me. They didn't have gray in my size but I tried on white and red and when I asked him which one he liked best, he told me to get them both. They're cardigans that I can wear on top of something else indoors so they will be very handy.
:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: I hope October brings freedom from pain both physical and mental for all of you who are going through tough times.
:flowerforyou: We are packing to go away for the weekend----leaving tomorrow morning. I'm doing last minute laundry and then we can tackle the packing in earnest.
Now it's time to do the last minute shopping and errands. I'll try to post again later.

Good Evening Everyone!
I just back in from Detroit. Had a lot of "get to know you" meetings. It has all gone well. I am glad to be back working again. I was starting to like being a house husband. I will be pretty busy for the next 4 months. That is the length of this contract. We will all step back and take a look at things at that point. Right now is looks pretty good.
Day and the girls are fine. Sam is working on the Miss Indiana State pagent that is coming up in a few weeks. Amanda is busy with school. She is putting on a Veterns Day program for all the local vets at her school. It is really a neat production and she is working her heart on it. I am very proud of her for contributing as best as she can to our vets! and she is also putting on "Alice in Wonderland". She is busy!
Beth I am so glad you are back and safe. Thank you for everything! May God continue to bless and keep you!
Gayla we are getting frost tonight. My "maters" are just about done. Send me some? I am glad that Neil is doing well.
Barbie and Jake travel well.
Sandy I am glad that things are good on your end.
Birdie keep on working towards your goal. you are doing great. Don't settle for less than what you want. One of these days I will tell you about my RI connection.
Marie don't over do it! Take it in small steps! You are still recovering. Keep me posted!
Everyone else I wish you the best!

Hi everyone! Well, Neil's happy stay at the Respite Home was short-lived. Early this afternoon he called his Dad and asked him to get him out of 'this place'. I think he was very lonely. He gets way too much attention at home and I am to blame for that!! When I picked him up I asked him to think of what he liked best about his stay, just trying to get him to have some happy thoughts about the place. It doesn't sound like much went on. I would have thought with him being the only resident there they would have done something fun with him instead of just watching TV. Oh-oh, now I sound cranky. But. . . they did know it was his first stay away from home and that he may be worried. He said he asked the girl if she would rub his back because it was so sore and that his Mom did that at night. She said "no, we don't do that"!!!! Now, what the heck is that???? I say lazy and lack of humanity. When he was leaving they barely said good-bye. I prompted Neil to say thank you which should have given them an opportunity to say we enjoyed having you stay with us (even if they didn't) or some such thing that might make him think coming back would be ok. I felt no warmth there so I am not surprised that Neil didn't either. He said he cried in the night because he missed his mom. This is way too hard!! I guess we will have to start this all over and the next time will be harder I am sure, however, I will lay out my expectations a little better.
Sorry for being such a downer! Tomorrow will be a better day. Be back then.
Take care and keep smiling. Gayla :grumble:0 -
Oh Gayla, how sad is that. I too, would have been very sad if my son was treated the way they treated Neil. They did know it was his first time away from home and could have been much more respective.
Don't feel bad about being cautious the next time he goes to a new home. He is your son, he loves you and counts on you to take care of him. Sometimes I don't understand people, how can you not be kind to some one with a handicap? It is just rude and unprofessional. :explode:
Jeffrey, congratulations on the new job, I hope it all works out for you and you get a permanent position.
The girls sound like they are doing wonderful. How proud are you of them each in their own way? they sound like intelligent girls who will go far in life.
Barbie, how excited are you buying new clothes in smaller sizes? You look wonderful and will continue to do so with how dedicated you are with the program. Sorry about Jake and his sports car, but umm maybe he is just a little older now and has to adjust.
I had a good night at bingo tonight, I won a pull tab for $300 and then another for $150 and then a bingo game for $50. Can you believe $500 in one night??? It will come in handy Monday and Tuesday when my two friends and I go to casino in East Chicago (the horse shoe and the Ameristar Jeff) and spend the night and have good dinners for one of the friends birthday.
Time for bed, will talk to you in the morning.

Have a great trip Barbie!
Jeffrey: Sounds like you've got some great kids!!!:flowerforyou: Can't wait to hear your "Rhode Island" Story!
:brokenheart: Gayla: So sorry to hear about Neil's bad experience!! It's too bad that you can't assume people will be compassionate He will probably get over it faster than you will!:ohwell: That's the price of being a parent, I guess:ohwell: Just don't beat yourself up over it, the way I usually do, because it doesn't change a thing. :frown: You're a good parent. :flowerforyou: Keep reminding yourself of all the good things you do for him. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: We tend to get stuck on the bad situations and forget all , and I'm sure there's many, good and loving things you do
:flowerforyou: Marie: Our fearless leader!!! Keep strong and positive We all need you to keep us going :smooched:

My worst pain is my knees, when I first get up in the morning they are very stiff, especially if I sit at the computer too long. I take over the counter meds and it seems to help. The more active I am the less they hurt.

Sandy, I went to a chiropractor last night for an evaluation and he told me that my FEET might be the cause of my knee and back pain. :noway: Do you wear good supports in your shoes when you're doing a lot of walking?
BirdieM0 -
Birdie-
RE your feet. Your doctor may have discussed orthotics with you, BUT before you spend bazillions on orthotics that may or may not work and may but probably won't be comfortable in your shoes, check out BIRKENSTOCK SHOES. I must confess to being a skeptic, but after a friend began working at a shoe store that specialized in them, I got my first pair and became a believer. I could never have worked a standup job for several years without them. My friend eventually purchased the store she worked in and I even helped out occasionally selling and fitting. It is important to be fitted by someone who knows what they are doing. Once you have established your correct size, it is possible to get them thru different sources. And don't assume all "Birkies" are open-toed. There are styles now that you wouldn' t know were a Birkenstock unless you were familiar w/their inventory. They are not cheap, but I still have the first pair I purchased in 1994. They are on the 3rd resole :noway: and going strong.
There is something to the idea that feet can cause the kind of pain you are having. If for some reason, my first suggestion doesn't work for you, I have another friend who swears by Z-Coil shoes. You may have seen them. Instead of a regular heel, they have what looks like a large spring that you stand on. She says she doesn't care what they look like, they enable her to stand all day in her pharmacy tech job and still be able to walk at the end of the day.
Good luck with your knees!!:flowerforyou:

Barb: Thanks for the advice. I already have some (old) inserts that I wear in my "New Balance" sneakers/shoes and they seem to help. I looked up the website for BIRKENSTOCK SHOES, and they all seem to be either sandles, open back shoes or boots. Is that all they have? I may try some next summer, as I did see a few styles of sandles that I liked... but not for the winter...especially in RI.
As far as the Z-Coil shoes, all I can say is that your friend must work behind a counter.  OMG! No offense, but when I saw what they looked like all I could think of was Tigger the Tiger:laugh:   I guess my pride would get in the way of bouncing around on them:laugh:  I would have to be in tremendous pain before I would wear a pair of those:laugh:
But, all kidding aside, I can see that they are made to make walking almost...no impact....which of course would help
Thanks again:flowerforyou:
