We just came back from a nice hour long walk through some nearby neighborhoods where they are starting to build some houses, then along the discovery trail, then home. We thought it was colder than it was and wore too much clothing.

Jake's mother is 93 years old and lives in Ohio near her other three sons and their families. She recently fell and broke her arm and isn't recovering well. She stayed with one son and his family for awhile and now is going to stay in an assisted living place. Jake had planned for us to fly out to see her for her birthday in April but now he's thinking about flying out by himself early next month.

:flowerforyou: Beth I'm so glad to hear that your return will be soon.

:flowerforyou: Marie, glad to hear that your eyes have a solution for what's bothering them/

:flowerforyou: Birdie, glad you're on the mend and know what caused the upset.......even, so be careful of that wine
too many calories

    hugs

    Good Morning from Minnesota,
My daughter had a hysterectomy and due to severe Endometriosis which spider webbed to her appendix and her bowel she had to have her appendix removed and her bowel re-sectioned. Her recovery will be... much longer than anticipated so keep her in your prayers. She is doing much better and was even able to go on her laptop yesterday. :) We had a lot of stress the day of surgery, but everything is better now.
She will be fine and should be home hopefully by next Monday or Tuesday. I am leaving Sunday morning, but her mother in law is coming with her husband Sunday afternoon. I have been a substitute teacher in home schooling the boys and I think I did well if I don't say so myself.

I have read all the posts and would love to respond to all of them, but I have to get ready for another day of teaching. Just know that I encourage all of you and thank you for thinking of my daughter. Talk to you soon.

Sandy, wonderful to hear from you. Wow your daughter was lucky to have such wonderful doctors.
Glad to hear she is doing better and a great home schooler you are. Thats our girl. We can do antthing we make up our mind too. Missed you around here looking forward to your daily chats again.

    Marie
  • HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!! (old boy:laugh: ) hope you celebrate and enjoy your day tremendously, we all think you deserve it.

Marie, glad your eyes are doing so well, and I'm glad you are diligent in keeping your check ups. I've got a pedometer somewhere, tucked it away, where I could find it easily, but I forgot where that is!! AARGH!!
Beth, go ahead and pack those bags, it won't jinx it!! I know you will be so glad to see Texas!!
Are you going to make a trip to that new stadium for the Cowboys, we saw photos, wow is all I can say.. wow!
Barbie, and Jake, you are such great inspirations, hope you are enjoying the cooler weather. I will when we get there.
Sandy, I believe you are having fun as a teacher, aren't you? I'm glad your daughter is doing good, it is too bad about the additional surgery, but I'm glad they were thorough. Even though she is able to come home, she must TAKE IT EASY, those surgeries are better than they used to be, but there is still a lot of muscle involved. I wonder who you will hug first on your homecoming, husband or 'baby'!!! LOL.. Daisy will probably make it her priority to get her hug first!
Gayla, you sound 'chipper', and I'm glad you are having a night out.. take care of yourself in that heatwave. It is cloudy here today, will probably rain, but it won't be so bad for the flood victims since the water level has had a couple of days to receed.
Speaking of that, I got an email from MUST Ministries this morning with a list of needs for the victims, and I am about the plow thru my closets for good clothing and health products, as well as food stuffs to take to the donation center.. what a mess it all is.. so many homeless, so much waste. That is not even to mention the deaths..terribly sad stories. This would be a good time to hit a yard sale and get a lot of clothing, maybe I will try that. I figure it is a good way to spend the day
We were to leave this evening, but dispatch changed that this morning, so we are leaving Saturday night..

Birdie, ugh!! but I am glad you got it figured out!
Ellen, glad to hear from you, and hope you are doing good, funny how long smoke lingers, why doesn't it just lift up and away with the wind? DUH.. I guess because there is more where it came from, I'm a dummy!

take care all, have a safe day
  • Good afternoon everyone!

I love this new computer! Pretty sweet and fast! Thank all of you for the birthday greetings, they have made me smile! And anything that will make you smile on a birthday is a good thing!!!

Sandy, I am sorry to hear about your daughter. Both of mine have endomitriosis and have dealt with issues from it. Please wish her a speedy recovery from all of us at our house.

Marie, you're looking good in the picture! Keep on a going you are looking and going good!

Pj, it is very nice of you to help out where you can. In this day and age it seems that the need is endless.

Well, I have a workout to get in yet and some house cleaning to finish. We are going out with our best friends tonight for supper. Tomorrow we are going to see Day's mother and my mother so I probably will not be back on until Sunday. I will try to get caught up on the post over the weekend. Everyone be well and smile!

Wake up everybody. Its time to be moving. Sammy and I have aleady been out for a walk.
Lovely outside. The sun is bright as it should be here at the end of Sept. This month is coming to a close. What have you done this month.?

I have took up walking. And watching my diet.

My doctor think I might have gout in my legs. All of the doctors have not given me a reason for them being so sensible. But they love to press on my legs and make me hollow. Anyway this docter yesterday gave me some med for gout yesterday and surpose to called her Tues. and let her know How my legs were. So far the same.

Have a good day everyone. Marie
  • Marie, if it is gout, I hope the meds work, Jim's family has a lot of it.. he takes allopurinol daily, and he never has flare ups. There is a newer med for gout but I haven't heard much about it yet, forgot the name of it. I read in a magazine that a common cause of leg pain is fybromyalgia.. if the gout med doesn't work, ask you doctor about it.. I think it is what my aunt has, coz they say she does not have gout but she has leg pain. They want to tell her it is arthritis, but she doesn't think it is.
4 to 5 oz per day is pretty low isn't it? my goodness, i'd get awfully hungry without more protein than that.. speaking of that, I am about to shut down the pc to cook our pk chps.. no grilling out today, too much rain, but we are leaving in a while, so I will close this computer down.
Yes, Jeffrey, tell us about your new pc, mine is fading fast, and I want to experiment with repairing it to see what I can do by myself.. if I ruin it, I'll have to buy a new one..my laptop is way too slow and not very stable..disappointing, since I don't use it very often.

I wish I could say that the clothes I took to the ministry donation center were all too big for me, but it was the reverse.. things that had not been worn because I outgrew them.. :indifferent: However, I don't feel too bad about it, since I emptied one closet, and got about half that much space in the other one. It feels good to give away what I don't need.. I think I like it, and may just adopt this attitude and go thru the house with a new eye towards everything.. except the garage, that is Not my domain!!

have a great week, be safe,

Again, a quick hello:happy: I tried to get back to work on Friday and left at 1:00. I was so stiff and achy:frown: I think it's my sciatic nerve:frown: After being out sick and sitting for long periods of time, it tightened up and then kind of turned into aches in my buttock:embarassed: and down the thigh to my knee. I was treating it with Heat, as I thought it was a strained muscle, :noway: but looked it up online. All the symptoms , for sciatica, were exactly what I was experiencing! It said to treat it with COLD not heat:noway: which is what I was doing!:noway: :ohwell: Boy, I'm having trouble diagnosing myself lately:laugh:  Anyways, I called the chiropractic center to set up an appointment for an evaluation this coming week. As I said before, one of the reasons I was hesitating was because I haven't had an incident....so why go? God certainly draws straight with crooked lines and if I was looking for a sign....I got it!!!
I went (or limped) to my grandson's BD party last night, REALLY FEELING LIKE A MEMERE!!! and my food was exact! No wine, though
So the food and the water have been perfect, but I miss the exercise. :ohwell: They say with sciatic nerve, you rest it, you don't try to limber up with exercise it just agravates it!!!:grumble:
Again, I am reading the posts and say a big hello. I cannot write too long because I'm not suppose to sit too long:laugh:
Have a great day! And don't let the backs, feet, surgeries and other challenges get you down! It's an opportunity to grow in discipline.
Thank you for all the greetings, I send my hearfelt thoughts to all of you!

Hi everyone from a very cool Saskatchewan. I am not sure what the temp. is but they are talking frost tonight so I went out and pulled off all my tomatoes, a few nearly red and many green which will ripen in the house. I have had a busy weekend. We went to my sons' friends wedding and dance yesterday. They were school friends and have remained friends since. The groom plays drums in a band so, of course, there was live (loud) music at the dance. I think my ears are still ringing. He sat in on the drums for a few songs which was nice. Neil did a lot of dancing. Many friends had told him to save a dance for them and they came and got him up. I thought he would be really sore today but seems ok, tired but not more sore than usual. It was fun to see him have such a good time. One of my sons' friends, who is in the military was sitting behind us in the church. His wife was a bridesmaid. Neil spotted him right away, it has been such a long time since we have seen him. Neil turned around (before the service) and said "Hi, how's the war?". We all laughed as the friend responded "still there". Sadly he is off on Wed. to do another tour. He has been so many times and I will pray for his safe return.
Today I had to get up early to go to the wedding shower of one of my colleagues. It was a breakfast gathering which was nice. Now I feel ready for a sleep. I am going to make a pot roast for dinner so will get that going in the oven and then have a rest. It really does feel like a day for an afternoon sleep but even if I just get some reading done I will be fine with that.
I don't think I told you about the play we went to the other night. It had it's moments but all in all was a bit too dreary for me. It was about a Jewish woman who lived with nightmares about her WWII experiences and was told in flashbacks. The stage was darkened for most of the play using the lights to highlight the speaker. The theatre was warm and I think I dozed off a time or two. The next play is Little Women so I am hoping for better. I am also looking forward to The Nutcracker by the Moscow Ballet in November (my favorite ballet). I took my boys to see it when they were quite young and they did like it, now they don't want to go. I guess it didn't turn out to be a lasting interest so now I will go with their wives.
Hmm, can you tell I drank a lot of coffe this morning?? I feel too far behind to catch up with everyone so I will leave that for another time. I was sorry to have missed Phoebe. Hope she is having a good trip now.

Marie -- Thanks for your thoughts. Neil is still excited so I am hopeful, nervous but hopeful. I hope your new medication works for your legs. Do your legs ever get warm and red? At one time Neil had something called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy which was exceedingly painful. It followed surgery and usually is related to some type of trauma but not sure if it always is. It did last a long time after the surgery.

Sandy -- So glad that your daughter is recovering so quickly. I am sure you were a wonderful teacher for your grandchildren.

Birdie -- Wow, this has really kicked up a chain of health issues for you. I hope that it has nearly run it's course and you will be feeling like yourself soon. About the sciatica -- having just recovered from it or at least, solidly in recovery I wanted to tell you that physiotherapy really helped me. She was able to get me started on the right exercises and monitor them in addition to very deep massage. It really is a nasty thing, so sorry you are experiencing it.

Jeffrey -- A belated Happy Birthday to you. Miss you here but so glad that you found a job. What a great birthday gift. Will you be working from home?

Have a great week everyone. Take care and keep smiling. Gayla

Gayla, You just pick your first vine ripe tomatoe and a frost is on its way. That's not fair. But I am ready for some good cool fall weather. It will be cooler next week. Down in the 80's Perfect weather for me. Good walking weather. So glad Neil Had a good time last night. And you too. It does a fellow good to go out and cut loose. Phoebe mention fybromyangia I look it up and it describe my pain very close. I will bring that up with my doctor next Wednesday When I go in. I don't know much about it. My kidney doctor is doing more blood work to see what she can find out.

    :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: Happy Sunday,
I'm back from my quick trip to Seattle. I left my laptop at home so I would use whatever free time I had to go to the fitness room. As it turned out, the wifi at the hotel wasn't free.   The fitness room had fabulous equipment and was hardly used at all so I didn't feel crowded or have to wait for a treadmill. Thanks to some walking up and down the stairs and using the treadmill for almost an hour in the morning and during the lunch break and walking on the ferry I was able to keep my step count up almost where I wanted it.  I traveled with women who follow a similar eating plan to mine so there were no issues about going to expensive high calorie restaurants and no time wasted at restaurants.

:flowerforyou: Jeffrey, welcome back and happy birthday. No matter what you do, you're still younger than the rest of us.:flowerforyou:  Congratulations on getting a job. You have been a fabulous example of patience and tenacity and at last it has paid off. Is it the job where you will be working from home?

:flowerforyou: Sandy----glad to hear that your daughter is recovering from her major surgery. It's good that she had such capable medical care. She was so fortunate to have you there for her and taking care of her kids and teaching them. Will you be glad to get home or sorry to have to leave her so soon?

:flowerforyou: Phoebe, Marie and I joined another thread for people walking with pedometers. We check in every day and try to walk more steps each day. If you find your pedometer, you could join us. Be safe on your next trip.

:flowerforyou: Birdie----ice is your friend. Take care of yourself, do what the chiropractor says and you'll be up and around before you know it.

:flowerforyou: Gayla, you have such an active social life. The loud dance music makes my ears hurt just thinking about it. How great that Neil got to dance and have such a good time. Going to the theatre (stage or movie) is hard for me, too. I often doze off in the middle and miss something important.

:flowerforyou: Marie, I'm sorry to hear that you have another health challenge. You have been such a good sport about so many other challenges already. I've been in good health and have good weather so all the walking I do has been easy for me.

We took a short walk this morning and I just got back from the dog park and I've been doing chores in the house that involve a lot of walking up and down the hall, so I've logged quite a few steps already. The weather is nice so Jake and I may try to take another walk together later.

hugs:heart: and drink some water :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:

I am back. My daughter is home, feeling better but tired and her mother in law is there to take care of her. It was a stressful week, but I still managed to hold my weight if not losing a pound.
I wore my pedometer all the time, so it made me conscious of my steps.

There are too many posts to catch up with, but I will try to remember what I read. Phoebe, glad you checked in and have another safe trip. Birdie, so sorry to hear about all your health issues, hope they all get mended and you can get back on that treadmill. How is your mom doing? Gayla, I was happy to hear Neil had a good time dancing, even with his sore foot he manages a good time. Hope you took the time and had that nap and/or read your book. Jeffrey, love getting new computers, I am about due for one myself. Marie, you are too kind to me, it is you who keeps us all going. You never give up and we respect you for that and love your daily encouragements. Barbie, you amaze me woman, you have more determination than anyone I have every met. I am so glad you are on this site to keep us moving.

I am sorry if I forgot anyone, Beth I hope is too busy packing and traveling to be reading.

I Hi Sandy. Glad you are back and that your daughter is doing fine so far.

I have been reading up on Fybromyaigia That Phoebe mention the otherday. and I have a lot of the systems that they mention. Well have to call my Kidney Doctor tomorrow and let her know if thae gout medication help and it did not. And will check it out with her. One of the Medications for it I have taken and it did help with my nerve damage But it made me so sleepy all the time so I got off of it. That was for my diabetic. It said Back ache is part of it So if the doctor say OK I may try it once more. I go to my primary docter Wed. and will check with her too.

Nice and cool here this morning, Love it. Still in short sleeves

Gayla did you get that frost??????? I am not quite ready for that yet.

Alice and Jim is flying out to Los Vegas to see his Daughter get Married, quite a few of his family is going too. This is the first week of Oct.

Well got to get up and get my chores done . so I can watch the Dallas Coeboys tonight.

Good evening to all, of course all you folks east of me have already gone to bed. I'm headed off there soon after a cereal snack and some TV watching. We record everything on DVR so we have a great choice of stuff to watch.

Today was medical day----Jake to the chiropractor, me for a mammogram, and both of us got flu shots at the grocery store----whoever had the bright idea of flu shots at the grocery store should get a gold star.

Jake finally got the OK to play nine holes of golf and now it's raining.

Remember when I was whining about having to do all the dog walking because Jake couldn't because of his back? Now I'm whining because he is doing most of the dog walking because he "needs the steps" and my step count is down.    Yep, that's me
    never satisfied.

:flowerforyou: Sandy, I'll bet you're glad to be home and Daisy is really glad

:flowerforyou: Birdie, your family is beautiful. Thanks for posting the pictures.

:flowerforyou: Marie---you are such a go getter----you never give up
you keep us all going. We wouldn't be doing this as successfully without you.

See you in the morning:yawn:

    Good Morning,

Birdie, your pictures are just great, what beautiful grandchildren you have. I have a pillow with the saying "If I had known how much fun grandchildren were, I would have had them first." It is so true, I love being with my grandchildren, just not for too long.

Marie, I am so sorry you are in pain. You are right in waiting to talk or see your doctor. You don't want to make things worse, so just take it easy for now. We love you kiddo!!!

Barbie, yes I really missed Daisy so much and she was thrilled to see me. I really think dogs like to be disciplined and my husband is not very good at that. :grumble: I had her washed yesterday and she looks beautiful again. He had taken her somewhere where she rolled in some stinky stuff. :frown: Having Daisy is great for my health, we try to take her for a walk everyday so it helps with my steps. I only did 5550 yesterday but it is certainly better than nothing. It sounds like you have wonderful places to walk with your dogs right from your house. Your scenery in the Northwest is amazing, we have no mountains or beautiful hills in the Chicago area. :glasses:

Today is card day, not sure about lunch yet. Have to pick up my granddaughter and bring her somewhere after school.

    Have a wonderful day.

Glad Jake is doing so well!

 Sandy: So glad the surgery went well for your daughter. :flowerforyou: When they hurt.....we do! I'm doing some letting go of the children thing we talked about before, regarding our children and dating. My daughter met someone last month (4 weeks ago) and they are going on a Royal Carribean cruise in a week for 5 days!!!! :noway: :noway: I'm having a hard time getting my arms around it! She IS 28 yrs old and I think he may be "the one" but it's just so much....so soon! I'm so old fashion:ohwell: , yet I'm happy for her as it's the happiest I've seen her in 7 years!

:frown: Marie: Can't say I feel your pain because right now I'm feeling another kind of pain:laugh:  I'm sure your's is much worse then mine :frown: I hope you do see the doctor and get some relief. Hope you can get some sleep tonight:love: I am going to the chiropractor tomorrow! :noway: :ohwell: Let's hope we're all on the mend soon.

 I lost another 2 lbs! So my ticker says 15 lost!!! Yipee....it's working even though I haven't done any exercise in 10 days!!!:drinker: :drinker: :drinker:

 Hope everyone is doing well:happy:

Jake's off to play golf----last night's rain is gone and as soon as he leaves I'll go for a walk and then come home and tackle my "to do" list. The dogs will be disappointed that they aren't going with me. They are not any fun on a leash and when I walk I like to keep a steady pace and think only about myself.   I'll take them to the dog park later. Jake is taking the car. A sad note about his last back problems. Part of the problem was aggravated by getting in and out of the little red car so he can't drive it and will probably decide to sell it soon.       So, after golf and after lunch I'll take the dogs to the dog park.and do any chores that require the car.

:flowerforyou: I know three women who have fibromyalgia. One of them spends most of her life suffering and taking pain pills and complaining. The other two are active line dancers and hikers who manage their pain with exercise and meditation.

:flowerforyou: Sandy, a friend of mine who needed to lose weight was told by her doctor that she should get a dog so she'd have to go out and walk several times a day. I'm sure our dogs are dirtier than they look but because they aren't white like Daisy, we don't notice it.

:flowerforyou: Birdie, congratulations on losing 2 pounds. If you can do that by lowering stress (turning your kids and your health over to God) and watching what you eat, imagine what will happen when you're back on the exercise trail again.

hugs:heart::heart:  and cheers:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: to all

Jake's off to play golf----last night's rain is gone and as soon as he leaves I'll go for a walk and then come home and tackle my "to do" list. The dogs will be disappointed that they aren't going with me. Hi everyone from very cool Saskatchewan. It is beginning to feel like winter. Hopefully we won't see any white stuff for awhile. Neil has called several times from his respite home but seems happy.
I think many of you know that I have fibromyalgia and have had for more than 20 years. It kicked in following a car accident and has never left, I guess it never will. I was very fortunate to have a wonderful rheumatologist who gave me some excellent advice. He said don't quit work or stop doing what you do as when you stop you will never get it back. I took that to heart very seriously and have just lived my life as I can and when the pain gets severe I go to the chiropractor and use meds for awhile. I also know that some folks have more severe fibro than others so I just count my blessings.

Marie -- So sorry you are having so much pain. I hope it eases soon.

Birdie -- You have had a long stretch of not feeling well. I hope tomorrow is a better day.

Barbie -- Glad that Jake is back to walking but sorry to here about the car connection. You mentioned I have a busy social life. The funny thing is that I do not!! My social calendar is usually quite empty! It just happened that everything fell in one week. Maybe when I retire I will become as busy as you social butterflies here!

Sandy -- Glad your daughter is doing so well. You sound busy as ever, back to your regular day.

Beth -- Hope you are home safe and sound very soon.

Take care and keep smiling. Gayla

How does your fibro.effect you. I can't bear anyone to touch my legs or certain spots on my back. Beside just a run down feeling. I go to the doctor in the morning and will see what she has to say. their is a good medication out. I took it at one time for my diabectic pain. But it made me sleepy all the time and I quit taking it. I will discussed this all with the doctor. She has never had me on it yet. I have gave up these long walks for awhile. and my legs already feel better.

I am so happy that Neil is Happy. Didn't you say he would just be their several days a week? I bet he loves his phone. This has cut your cooking out some. How do you feel about it now?

So it is getting cooler up there. . We pick a eggplant today our first one. It took it 7 months to be ready to pick. We only had 2 off the plant. I will plant a difference kind next year. if we plant anything. It was so dry during the spring for anything.

    See you later

    GOOD MORNING ALL,

Good morning , hope you all have a wonderful day.. It is nice and cool here. But right now time for a cup of coffee. And breakfast. I am straving!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seems like I have really been hungry here lately. Got to get back on my coconut oil. My Kidney Doctor gave me some new Med the other day and it has coconut oil in it. Don't know exactly whats it is for. I am a walking pill box. Way to much medication.

Have a wonderful day.:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

    Hi Everyone, happy Wednesday!!

Cool day here as well, with sunshine though so it is nice. :flowerforyou: I am not ready for winter, but as usual it comes every year around this time. I have a feeling my baby girl Daisy will love the snow.

So sorry to hear about everyone and pain. My worst pain is my knees, when I first get up in the morning they are very stiff, especially if I sit at the computer too long. I take over the counter meds and it seems to help. The more active I am the less they hurt.

Glad Neil is liking his new place, he must love being independent. Mom is only a phone call away, so that is reassuring for him.

My daughter is doing great and getting stronger everyday. She takes after me as far as having a high pain tolerance, so we are lucky. She has a hard time sitting still but hopefully she is listening to the doctor and taking advantage of some one taking care of her.

Time for breakfast, have a good day.
