It's been a crazy busy week for me. I had the best of intentions of keeping up with reading the thread, but Thurs and Fri got away from me.

@mountmary84 (Barbara) - Congratulations on the loss!
@cblue (Lori) - Feel better soon...Breaking Bad is a good way to forget your troubles!
@morgori (Tom) - After all those cheesy, creamy, sweet food days, you're going to throw a healthy weight day at us?!?! LOL
@skinny (Karen) - Great work getting your grading done!

AFM- I had an 8 hour leadership workshop for work on Thursday, which involved driving a little over 3 hours round trip and sitting at a table for most of the day. A little fitness/success...during our lunch break, we were served Chinese buffet at the hotel. I went heavy on the greens, light on the eggroll and stood at a counter to eat. Then I went to a stairwell and walked the hotel's 3 flights of stairs several times before returning for the afternoon session.

Thursday night I stopped at the shoe store to weigh in and I am down on their scale, which is promising for my at-home official weigh in on Monday.

A little belated Thursday truth: I now have zero downtime at work with my added responsibilities and the homework for these leadership classes. I am enjoying it, love not being bored and the days go by fast. However, it can be stressful. I have to watch myself and not take my stress home. Must enjoy my family when we're together and avoid stress eating!

Tip of the Day: Whether you're trying to get healthier or lose weight, processed foods aren't going to help you get there. Try swapping out at least one processed food you're planning to eat today—whether it's a granola bar (try almonds instead) or sauce for your quinoa stir-fry (try olive oil and lemon juice). Little changes, big results.

AFM- goes right along with one of my mottos ... One bite at a time.
Watch Your Calories: 21/23 (goal is 28/31)
ALL-In ... zero for the gym this month. It's in my plans for Monday - Wednesday - Friday on next week.

@cblue - get well. Lots of sleep, lots of liquids, salt-water gargle, garlic soup, hot tea
@melifornia and @grandmakaye - a walk in the sunshine would be so nice ... I live in an area that is mostly cloudy all winter because I'm east of Lake Erie. We have a lot of SAD.

Also ... speaking of SAD, and depression in general ... I read on Facebook today that 2 handfulls of cashew nuts is the therapeutic equivalent to a prescription doze of Prozak ... just remember to count in the calories on your meal plan.

    Have a great weekend everyone.
    Follow-Through. Niki

@cblue315‌ - riiiiiiight with ya, except it's my kids. I haven't logged squat in days because I've been coping with two sick littles. But they're both feeling better today, so mama's back on the horse.

Well I found that if you up working for 48 hrs strait and dont think about it you dont eat much lol. then when you go to sleep afterwards you still dont think about it lol. so I'm trying to eat smart and not binge thinking I need to "catch up". it seems it really is alot in your mind!

Thanks for the "HEY!" everyone. It's nice to see some old faces among the new too!

Sorry I disappeared again, got a stomach bug that had me moving very slowly. :p The weather has been so erratic that there is a lot of nasty things going around right now.

I saw Karen post about a mantra for 2015. Can someone figure out how to shorten this for me? I'm trying to remember that story. An old man said " I'm going to learn the piano." Astounded his friend said " Do you know how old you'll be by the time you learn?" "The same age I'll be if I don't." It's a sort of seize the day and lost opportunities.

That being said... my kids are all out of the house this afternoon with Dad. So I' m going to be doing some forbidden Zumba before I have to go to work. lol! I got a message that the Graffiti Run will be back here in June and I'd like to jog it this time. So I need to get my endurance back. AND I finally found the impetus that might help me get under 200... I can't go sky diving until I am. I was thinking about going as a birthday present to myself, but unless I'm under I can't go. I HATE BEING TOLD NO. lol!
So these are my goals to go along with my mantra:
-Get my studying done so I can challenge the exams to get my chefs papers. I want to set up the first test before summer.
-Get better, so I can get back to doing what I want.
-Go sky diving before the end of the summer.
-Get back into Karate... I miss it. Ladies... it makes me feel strong. <3

However I think I'll opt out of this round of lifting challenge. A lot of the lifts twinge the sciatica and make it inflame. If there is another go-round maybe then.
    Have a great weekend everyone!

@p1xyn1xy‌ --that piano story is great! Not sure of a good phrase for it--I agree it's kind of a Carpe Diem or Live Life to the Fullest kind of message.

@bracer--I've had those days when I'm so busy I have no time to eat. Sometimes it turns into a "grab any junk food lying around" kind of day. However, I've found if I make sure the first thing I eat after a long day of nothing is protein, I can stave off the binge.

@lori & mary--hope the sickness in your homes passes quickly.

    @riella & myra--welcome!

@justine--Yesterday wasn't great for me either, but I'm right there with you--today will be better!

@niki--I read that same thing about cashews. Isn't nature amazing?

@hansea--great job getting some movement in your day--those conferences can be a killer!

@kaye--my DH is like you in that making good food is part of his way of taking care of me. It's taken some time, but he's learned that making me healthier foods is a better way to love me.

@zebster--your dog is adorable! My dog, Gunner, is also my walking/running partner. I've found he's better than any human workout buddy: he will always adapt to my schedule, he gives me those sad puppy-dog eyes if I don't take him, and I can't just suggest we go out for a drink instead. LOL

AFM--After talking to my sister last night, I decided to move my 8k run to Sunday. She's having my nieces b-day party at noon, so it will be early enough when I get back to still go to the gym. Plus, she's planned a mac n cheese bar as our lunch. I figure after that and some b-day cake, I will be "carb-loaded" and definitely in need of burning off some major calories.

Walked gunner this morning and did some stuff around the house. Now I'm at starbucks getting ready to finish those journals. I will report back when I have my Saturday Success (= finishing said journals).

Happy Saturday! It's my 12 hour day at work and things have been hopping around here. I've had a couple of good sales and lots of hopeful prospects. Much better than the last couple of days of staring out the window wishing for someone to talk to! :D

My Saturday success is that my eating has been on point today and I've gotten in lots of steps. I'm doing my weekly weigh-in in the morning and fingers and toes are crossed for a loss!

Tomorrow night is my company dinner in Atlanta. The 10 of us rented a party bus to drive us so we can drink and have fun. We are all excited to let our hair down and enjoy the evening. I'm not counting calories but I'm not worried because this is a planned event where no guilt will be allowed. :p

Oops can't do personals since someone just walked in!! I'll be back!! :D

Hi everyone. My name is Deb and I'm new... sort of. I have been on mfp before, this time since the end of December. I also followed Robin's Thread a couple years ago. I was so excited to see that it's still going stronger than ever!

My goal is to lose 100 pounds, 1 lb a week for the next two years. I'm not in a hurry - I just want to have 100 small victories! So far, I've lost 5 lbs and I'm right on track!

I look forward to checking in with all of you and enjoying your triumphs and the not so awesome days, too.

    @melwillbe--welcome back!!

    Saturday Success:
Well, I got through a few journal conferences before getting my niece's b-day present. While I was shopping for her, I found a great deal on a couple of pair of leggings at TJ Maxx. I also hit the grocery store to stop up on some healthy fare for the work week. A bag of doritos jumped into my cart, but I promise to weight out my portions and only eat them when they fit into my calories--like tonight! :)

The best news is it's still early enough to get through a few more journals before bed.

Hello everyone. I am having a great weekend. Yesterday was my weigh in for the week and I lost 5.8 pounds. Who would have thought eating right and exercising would produce results lol. I spent yesterday running errands and then went to my nieces basketball game. It was a lot of fun watching a bunch of pre-teens playing :) My sil was on her own today with the kids at friends and hubby at work so we went up to the mountains and went hiking. So beautiful and so much fun. My kids joined us about an hour in and we drove around to three different trailheads and ended up hiking just over 5 miles. The uphills were killer and I might have pushed it a little hard on the way back on the last trail but once you go in you have to come back out, lol, and I lived :) I am hanging out with my kids and one of their good friends tonight and then we are going to a great walking trail with the dogs in the morning and then we are going mudding. It should be great. Have a great night/day everyone and cya later :)

@riella--no worries! I like the "if not now, when?" idea.

@tammy--that sounds like a great hike! As much as I love being a flatlander when it's time for a run, I really wish we had some nice, well-populated hiking trails nearby. There are a few forest preserves tat have trails, but they either don't allow dogs, or they are creepily secluded and I wouldn't feel safe hiking them alone.

AFM--finished up a few more journals so just 11 left for tomorrow. Yay!

Next week will be a challenge to get my workouts in. I've got a bargaining meeting right after work Tuesday, then I have to leave that meeting to go back to the HS to teach an ACT prep class until 9:30 pm. I hope I;m not too tired on Wed to work out, but if so, I will move the run to Thurs. Then I have to teach another prep class on Sat. morning before going out in the afternoon/evening to see a friend's band play. They are playing at a bar in my parents' neighborhood, so I will be spending the night there on Sat.

I don't have any plans for Superbowl Sunday yet. If I care about the game, DH and I stay home to watch. I can't stand trying to watch at a bar or big party if I'm emotionally invested in the teams. However, since I don't really care who wins, I may venture out if I get an invite.

Hi. I will be 56 and just installed this app to help keep me on track better. I am on a long journey and am nearing the end. I have changed my lifestyle since June 2014 and have lost 87 pounds so far. I do water aerobics and have been lifting weights to increase bone density.

I want to reach my goal of 135 by August. I am doing Low Carb High Fat and my physician is happy with my progress. I hope to stick to my diet more strictly to achieve faster results and feel better and healthier. I have 75 pounds to go.

I am enjoying the community postings. It is great to see I am not the only one struggling and also adjusting to my changing body.

@p1xyn1xy - ran across something that reminded me of your search for a motto ... Purpose your greatest challenge

Sunday Share - Since there are a lot of new and returning posters, I'll introduce myself and hope to get to know you-all better also. My name is Niki, I am 69 and my birthday is coming up in about 5 weeks when I will turn to another decade. I live with Strawberry the cat, having lost another one in late December; have a son in the midwest and a teenage granddaughter. I don't get to see my son's family very often as I am in the Great Lakes region. I'm hoping to make the trip to visit them this August. My journey to better health through nutrition, weight control, and body form has been on-going for a number of years, after a long time of just having 'given up' of ever regaining robust health and a trim figure. Now my goals are to prolong my life, if I can, through better health ... and that includes weight-loss. I have a lot of physical complaints and ailments, but try not to let them get me down. The with-me-forever disease that really prompted me to try again is Diabetes. It runs in my family down my mom's heritage and all of us kids got it when we reached adult-hood. We've lost a lot of family members to the complications of this disease and I'm trying very hard to stay that executioner in my own life. My favorite phrase is one from Whinnie the Pooh ... it's more of a 'talk' ... Pooh asks Piglet, "What day is it?" Piglet answers "Today" Pooh states "My favorite day!". And that's how I live my life ... every new day is my favorite day.

Wath your calories challenge - 22/24 (goal is 28/31)
    ALL-In challenge - 3 times a week at the gym - zero
    2015 Phrase to live by - Follow-Through

Success or failure depends more upon attitude than upon capacity; successful men act as though they have accomplished or are enjoying something.

    Soon it becomes a reality.

Act, look, feel successful, conduct yourself accordingly, and you will be amazed at the positive results.

Good morning everyone. Lets see for all the new faces I will do a short sunday Share. I am tammy and a wife and mother to three grown children 2 of which still live at home while trying to pay off some schooling debt. I am 42 and been married to the same wonderful man for 22 years. My husband is an engineer on a fishing boat in Alaska so is gone for long stretches of time. You will notice when he is home I don't check in or post as often as I should, lol. I am also a momma to 4 furbabbies. I have a little pomchi named petey who is 3. Then a bigger one who we aren't sure of the the parentage. He was supposed to be heeler which we can see a little and saint bernard. He has some of the coloring but is topping at around 55 pounds so who knows. He is only 1 and still just a big dopey puppy. Then just a couple months ago we added two kittens, Isis and Loki, to our menagerie. I don't work but watch my brothers kids before and after school so all of it tends to keep me fairly busy. I have been on this journey for three years now. The first year went great and the second one was basically one long stall but I never gave up. Then last year I was starting to make some progress and then got a fairly serious ankle injury that put me down for about five months. I gained some but am back going strong now and only have eight more pounds to get back to pre injury weight. This is going to be my year I can just feel it.

Mountmary: I love that quote. We should apply it to so many areas of our lives.

Skinny: I sure wish I had your flatlands when I am trying to ride my new bike but I was born and raised in Illinois and I cant honestly imagine going back. Like I told the kids this is the only place I know where you can go from mountains to wetlands to saltwater to desert all in one day. It is truly perfect for me :)

Well time to get ready. The kids and I are taking out the old truck and going mudding. Time to get dirty lol. Have a great day everyone :)

    Good afternoon all.
My name is Lori, 54, married both adult sons still living at home. I own a small interior design business that mostly does window treatments. My sister works for me full time.
We are extremely busy right now and I am struggling to catch up. I have been on this weight loss journey for 3 years. MFP has been critical to my success. I am down a total of 100 pounds. My next goal is to get below 170 which would take me out of the obese category on the BMI.

I have had a bad cold for the last couple of days. Still not feeling good but we have tickets for the Green Bay Gamblers Hockey game this afternoon. All 4 of us planned to go. We don't often do family things so I will go. Food will probably not go well but I will only eat calorie worthy items.

The mantras and motivational quotes are very inspiring for me. Thanks to all who are posting.

I did skip the gym this weekend. Still not sure if I will go to spin in the morning. I will set the alarm and take a physical inventory to make my decision in the morning.

May the week go well for all of you.
    Love to all,
    Lori <3

  • Hi All, I am looking to find some support on this thread. I have been working on my fitness/health/weight loss since the beginning of July this year. I am down 79 pounds and still going. Fitness and health have become part of who I am. I use fitness pal daily and would love to become part of a good support network on her.

I'm beating myself up tremendously because I did a lot of drinking this weekend. So far today I've drank 4 bottles of water to try to get some of the bloat down but it doesn't seem to be helping. I know it was just one day but I feel like all of the progress I made has been pushed back!

@jtconst‌ - Congrats on the loss! Way to go!

@msbrittanyhelene‌ - Give yourself a little grace. We all slip up occasionally. Remember how this feels, how you feel about yourself today, so next time you're tempted, you can make a better choice for yourself.

Sunday Share: My name is Melissa and I live in a small town in Kansas. I'm a freelance writer and occasional substitute teacher. Last year was my first full year of freelancing after about 18 months of job hunting post-layoff, and have been pleasantly surprised to discover that I can make a living writing. Who knew?! I'm counting 2014 as a "rebuilding year" and looking ahead to creating serious success in 2015.

So today was Day 21 of my Miracle Morning routine, and 21 days in a row of practicing yoga as part of that routine. A couple of days ago I noticed that I'm feeling stronger, and today I'm noticing a bit of extra lift and definition in my torso. Decided to weigh myself - something I usually avoid when Aunt Flo is here. I'm about the same as pre-Flo, which is a good sign.

I'll be back later with my goals for the week.

I'm struggling to follow along on my phone, but I hope to get to know everyone after a while of reading so that I can remember who I'm replying to by the time I scroll down to the comment box at the bottom. The alternative is to reply to you all individually, but that doesn't seem to be the norm for this thread.

I somehow managed to pull a muscle in my shoulder/scapula area. I've been icing it, and taken anti inflammatories, but any suggestions would be appreciated. The sad part is that I didn't do this as I would expect by exercising wrong or too much, I think I did this lifting a trash bag. :(
