I think I may have seen some zombies today during my run. These two women were standing in front of a building one in front of the other, and just staring down the hill...not moving. And there was nothing to look at! It was creepy. I crossed the street and kept an eye on them - just in case they got a sudden urge to take a bite out of someone...

I'm a smoker (not a heavy smoker, but an addict for sure) and sometimes I think about quitting.

    Things on my mind:

Thing 1.) Upside to quitting - I would be able to run from zombies longer without getting out of breath.
Thing 2.) Downside to quitting - It would significantly reduce the chance that I get to be the cool anti-hero who flicks their cigarette onto a trail of gasoline that leads to a gas station where a bunch of zombies are wandering around and causes the gas station and the zombies to explode in a big glorious mess.

The best solution I've come up with so far is to quit smoking and just start carrying a flame-thrower everywhere. Bonus: Flamethrowers are probably heavy and I'd get wicked buff from all of that flame-thrower lifting.

Several years ago we stopped late at night at a gas station in a remote Arizona town. As I was looking in the mirror, I saw this woman shuffling along. Totally looked like a zombie. I pointed it out to my husband and said, "The zombie apocalypse is upon us." Then I went on a rant about what we're going to have to do to be prepared. He told me I was out of my tree.

Now I've brought him around to my way of thinking. He goes through the Emergency Essentials catalog and says we need to buy this, that or the other. Although he doesn't call it coming around to my way of thinking, he says I "infected him with the crazy".

My wife loves to write papers, so I get her to edit mine for me.

Well, considering that many of my classmates can't even code well let alone write papers, I would think that giving a couple more programming assignments wouldn't be a bad thing. Then again, considering 90% of my classmates are from a foreign country (may be an exaggeration, but doesn't seem like it), writing papers probably isn't a bad thing. Speaking of writing papers, I have to turn one in within 3 hours, I should probably work on finishing that.
Probably... I was in a computer program (not computer science though, more artsy), and we had some coding projects... I can't code at all. HTML is all I got, and not much of it either... There was a girl in my program that could code for Flash, and she did our entire project, while another teammate and I pretended we could do the designing part.
The other day my city's emergency alarm was sounding, and my family didn't even hear it until I was like, What's that sound? My sister told me I was hallucinating, but I was like, This could be the zombie apocalypse.
The alarm in my hometown sounds exactly like the one in the Silent Hill movie. Freaks me out whenever I hear it.
Yeah, that's a little creepy... After I realized it wasn't the apocalypse, I was really worried about the fact that I could barely hear our warning, but I think it was coming from another part of the city... I can only hope that we have loud speakers that are closer to us. I'm glad you rallied your husband to your side (the side of the living who want to survive). :drinker:

I have my Emergency Essentials set up and updated once a year. Sure, I tell my friends and family it is in case of an earthquake, flood or other such natural disasters. They still have not figures out why I need two baseball base to survive a flood. I am ready which ever emergency arrives, but it is mostly for the ZA.

Does anyone have a good list of things that should go in a go bag? I read some lists, and they seem really extensive, but maybe it IS all necessary... Can't be too prepared, right?

I started by reading "The Zombie Survival Guide" Great book but have yet to Read World War Z (I think it is called that).

Zombieland had the perfect set of rules in the perfect order with Cardio being HUGE!!

I have got up to being able to run outside for 5+ miles without stopping @ 6 or so miles an hour. I hope this is fast enough to escape the slow type anyway.

My weapons of choose would be a bat and an MP5 or similar gun.

A shotgun is the usual favorite, but have fun reloading with all those zombies in your face. MP5 isn't a bad weapon choice at all. The M16 is a personal favorite of mine.

If nothing else, I'm becoming much better acquainted with all the little streets and alleyways in my neighborhood. And three of my regular jogging routes go past cemeteries, one right thorough one. As long as Z-Day doesn't happen while I'm out for a jog, I'll know what places to avoid!

I have a location in mind to go to in the case of a zombie apocalypse. Me and a group of friends were playing the board game zombies (essential reearch) and went through a list of locations until we came up with our safe location in town. Also, we decided we need a black cab to get there because they are reinforced so wickedly strong again zombie attack :)

I haven't really seen any zombie movies mostly because my wife only likes to watch dramas. I have watched 28 days / weeks, could have been better, but not bad.

I loved Zombieland - can't wait for Zombieland 2. And the remake of Dawn of the Dead. And the TV show "Walking Dead" is great.

Interesting new possible weapon for zombie killing: the super-penetration shovel, or as wired called it, the death shovel.

Heh if anyone is keeping track, I survived our first Zombie retreat. And it was awesome! The hand to hand stuff was an experience and I'm so self conscious with it. Had to miss the guns but the swords? Yeah I'll rock the melee weapons. Here comes more upper body!!!

Oh and I officially secured my place in the upper echelon of our group because I rocked the campfire creative cooking. ;D

Wish I would have known about that as I would have been interested in coming and checking it out.

Are we allowed to post links? If you guys are interested (and since we're getting one heck of an influx anyhow...THANK YOU CDC!!), you can find Zombie Research Society - Omaha on Facebook. Feel free to like us and check out a meeting if you're in the area. If you're not in Omaha, Zombie Research Society in general (on FB) does have a lot of the different chapters listed.

Oh and Zombieresearch.org is our over all parent page. If you don't have a chapter in your area, you're welcome to start one. :D

I know we're going to be doing a lot more "survival" fun stuff in the future. LOL and I think I might have gotten all the gals hooked on the 100 push up challenge cause man, we need more strength!!

I believe we are allowed to post links as long as we don't benefit from it. The wife's back home now from vacation, so I don't think I'd be allowed to go to such "frivolities", saying something along the lines of I should work on my projects to finish my masters :grumble: .
  • I try to remember all the rules in "Zombieland"...cardio, limbering up, double tap, etc. I also spend plenty of time at the shooting range- I wonder how THAT fits into my fitness routine ;)

You don't need to run faster than everyone else, just enough to keep the zombies distracted while you escape. If you can't do that, you better be good at tripping people.
