Can I just say how awesome this thread has become?

Yes, it started out about trash bags, peanut butter, and hot chocolate powder, but it has evolved into a community within the MFP community where people actually CARE and SUPPORT one another through stupid decisions, horrible situations, and hilarious escapades.

You all rock. And if I wasn't super lazy, I would finally get around to friend requesting the rest of the regular posters.
    Super great.

    You're all super great!

Agreed! You're all so incredibly wonderful. And now a certain poster who shall not be named, ( @quiksylver296 did you ever find out who this was) has stopped posting here, it truly IS a safe place.

I STILL DO NOT KNOW WHO THIS IS! I ASKED SEVERAL TIMES WHEN YA'LL WERE TALKING ABOUT IT BEFORE, SOMEONE PLEASE PLEASE FILL ME IN! PM me!!

Someone PM the lady, she's desperate! I'd do it, but I forgot that user's username... O.O

Confession: I ate nearly 4000 calories yesterday. Mostly in bread and cookies. Ugh.

Anyhow, it's prayer time and the fast has started--I'm off to pray and then maybe get some sleep (I hope).

@ndj1979 True and true, but that's okay. We don't mind being wrong when it feels so right. Although there are quite a lot of confessions in these 959 pages, if you care to browse for them.

eh - my confession - not sure how this would be helpful to newbies as it appears to be a collection of gifs, notes on tv series, and other things, while I am sure are fun to discuss, I fail to see their utility to someone new to weight loss.

I think it's here in the General section because a lot of people feel free to ask questions in here that often get blasted into dumpster fire threads under normal circumstances. A bit like the restaurant-related questions you mentioned in that post of yours... The forums are a scary place for newbies. The "No judgment" in the topic line seems to attract a lot of them, actually.

What you see right now isn't what the thread is like all the time--it's actually evolving constantly since it's so active. Since a lot of us have been here from the beginning, we do often just chit chat all together, but confessions and questions still pour in a lot.
Agreed. And since this is a really supportive, safe zone, I honestly think a lot of people have been helped back from the verge of falling off the wagon by discussing their struggles here. Or had a helping hand back on when they have fallen. To be honest, I don't really care where this thread is, as long as it doesn't get nuked.

Same here, which is why I do kind of wonder why everyone jumps on the posters who dare to ask why it's in this particular section. Wouldn't it make more sense to explain all that before telling them to go away? :D

I don't understand why others are so offended by this thread? Apparently many more people than we knew or thought lurk and read every so often.

any other thread that was as off topic as this one would of been locked down by page 15….

    just saying..

so the special status is interesting.

Good point... Maybe we're all special snowflakes. ;)

Actually, I think the mods like the positivity and support that this thread continually generates, and since confessions still do pile in daily (and we don't judge them! Most of the time.), we're somewhat on topic. It would be pretty dumb to pull this thread when it's going so well--not that they don't lock down threads for dumb reasons pretty often.

there is plenty of support in the main forums, it just is not sugar coated.

I'd agree there is support in the main forums but the reality is not everyone is as thick skinned as you or I. This thread keeps the people (who would throw the towel in the bucket because they didn't like the deliverance on the main forums) coming back and maybe learning more about weight loss. May be a bit slower but better late than never.
Right, although they may also have to learn how to properly size a bra, make flapjacks or change the transmission on a Jeep Wranger on the way.

I don't see how you need thick skin for someone to tell you that a detox is a bad idea, or that a calorie deficit is needed for weight loss.

If you are just going to coddle people then they are never going to learn about real nutrition and how to have long term sustainable success.

It's not that anyone is offended, the purpose of it is clear, and many like it. The issue many have is that it maintains a privileged status in a questionable location, when many more specific threads don't, and many posters who provide truly specific and valuable guidance receive "corrective action" because they are honest and don't sugar coat things. So, as much as "judgement free" can help some, many like myself, when starting, need a good kick, but the "mean" threads that actually give sound advice get nuked, while the fluffy puppy thread that occasionally gets back to the discussion of General Diet and Weight Loss, ever so briefly, is given a superior ranking by those who get to make the decision.

We don't agree with the so-called corrective action ourselves in most cases. I, for one, hate the fact that they removed all of the helpful stickies and banned users like herrspoons and yoovie. But I don't see how calling attention to our fluffy puppy thread will get those back--It'll end up nuked too and everyone gets to be miserable then. :-/

I understand what everyone is saying but the truth is this thread has motivated all of us to stay on track with counting calories, trying to incorporate more nutritious foods into our diet, and realizing that falling off the horse isn't the end of the world and we can indulge every once while - that doesn't make you a bad person. This thread motivates me and I know I can ask anyone here about weight lifting, healthier recipes, or help learning about my TDEE and BMR if I needed more information.

    dblo0gftzxej.jpg

Thank you everyone for supportive messages.

I have taken my tablets today and yesterday.

@MoHousdon I love the idea that this is a village. I'm imagining us all in little English country cottages, nattering over the garden fence and on the village green

    Good for you!

I would love that! As long as I can eat cookies and have tea. I would make an EXCELLENT English person/woman. Plus, I do a pretty good English accent.

I may have been doing one in my head just then.

Here, you have biscuits and tea. Cookies are 'merican

    Alright, biscuits, then.

Biscuits always brings hard cookies to my mind, like Oreos or Digestives. Not that I have anything against them, but I want soft, chewy, gooey COOKIES! :o Or you know what? Gimme a scone. With butter.

I miss scones. Never been able to enjoy one since my Grandma passed away. She made the best and always made a special batch for me without raisins. I hate raisins!!

Count me in on the raisin-hating wagon!! In traditional Arabian dishes, raisins are popular to put into the rice. Makes me want to gag when I accidentally pop one into my mouth... X_X I *HATE* raisins. By themselves they're bad enough, but they absolutely ruin food for me when they're put into things like cookies or puddings. :-/

I am quite known for telling people that raisins "do not belong in food."

I do have a bag of the super tiny boxes in my office though. They're good for blood sugar headaches. Stupid raisins.

My mom always put raisins in the stuffing at Thanksgiving. I love it and thought everybody did that until the first time I cooked Thanksgiving dinner for my husband. He was like "what the hell is this?!". LMAO 11 years later and he still fears the raisins.

I put dried cranberries in mine. Yummy.

No, no, no, fruit does not belong in stuffing..not judging though :)

    THIS

But...but stuffing with raisins is delightful!

No! Raisins = Evil little chewy monsters of DOOM. Gaggy doom. :dizzy:

@njd1979 I agree with @Tubbs216 that this thread has offered support to many who may feel less comfortable in other areas, dipping toes in the waters of MFP so to speak. I will say that this thread is the ONLY reason I'm still on MFP. I had gained a few pounds and just wanted to log for awhile to recalibrate myself. I lost the 3-5 lbs I wanted to lose, but I'm still here. Not only am I still here but thanks to reading of the experiences of others who themselves have had issues with food and/or depression I am able to more fully understand my teen daughter who was seeming to be on the verge of an eating disorder. I'm working with her doctor and a nutritionist and doing research in proper journals, but this place offers the personal perspectives that can help. This thread inspired me to sign up for a 5K and I have not run regularly since I was injured running with my dog in 2006 (bad long lasting injury requiring months of PT). So the location of this thread in general help does seem to allow new people to find us which I think is a plus for them and for us. It is how I found this thread. What is the best exact designation of the thread? That is harder to place. It has taken on a life of its own and is full of people who are kind and open to others. Sometimes just that little act of kindness can be the nudge needed to keep on the healthier path.

I am glad that this thread helps you, and IMO chit, chat, fun, and games would be the correct location.

And you can get plenty of help, support, and motivation on the main forums. There are plenty of people that post out there and they are not bashed, but are told they need to eat more or seek professional help. Is it perfect no, but it is the internet.

I wouldn't disagree, but when we got moved to Chit chat, we got overrun by creepsters and the mods moved it back in just a couple of hours. I wouldn't object to a "Serious Chit Chat" section, though...

They also banned MrM which sucks since he was extremely helpful & gave sound advice.

I didn't know they had banned Ana too until I read an old thread to get some more information about something with calories.

I can appreciate that, I am just an advocate of consistency among the powers that be, NOT an advocate of the removal of this thread. When one hand gives out "corrections" for not staying on topic, while another rewards something that has no defined topic, it leads to bad perceptions about what the "rules" really are, and people leave or are prevented from participating, because a rule was inconsistently enforced.

any other thread that was as off topic as this one would of been locked down by page 15….

    just saying..

so the special status is interesting.

I don't see how you need thick skin for someone to tell you that a detox is a bad idea, or that a calorie deficit is needed for weight loss.

If you are just going to coddle people then they are never going to learn about real nutrition and how to have long term sustainable success.

We don't coddle- if you read through the thread if someone asks about a detox, quick fix, or something that wouldn't work they're given advice from many of us who've had success using a food scale, making better choices, and learning moderation. We also talk about fitness and trade recipes. I have no idea what your profession is but a few of us work in the social work field and understand people and different personality types. Like @tubbs216 said sometimes there has to be SOME hand holding and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Right, although they may also have to learn how to properly size a bra, make flapjacks or change the transmission on a Jeep Wranger on the way.

great, but last time I checked it was not a site designed for any of those things. And people are always being chastised to "stay on topic"….
FWIW, I do understand what you're saying, but the fact is we're on topic enough of the time.

Confession: I burned 200 calories in exercise today, and I'm considering spending them on ice cream. With peanut butter. Mmm, peanut butter ice cream. o:)

Yum! So did you have any?

Nope, I used it on a lovely bag of Salt & Vinegar potato chips instead. Totally worth it. And then I bought some really awesome ice cream, which I've budgeted in today. So, I get both! ;)

Yeah! Sweet & salty:D. The best of both worlds. Did you eat some sweet & then chase it with a chip?

I hate sweet and savory combined, actually. Like some others in this thread, the idea of fruit in stuffing, salads, etc. is gross to me. :-/ (Not judging anyone who likes it, of course--just my personal taste. :))

And to get in on all the other conversations that I missed out on... I hate barbecue sauce because it's sweet, I can't stand ketchup for the same reason, and I don't put brown sugar or ketchup in my sloppy joes sauce, either. It has to be one or the other! :o To further scandalize everyone, I also hate buffalo wings/barbecued chicken wings because they're so sweet.

BUT, I did get a steak and cheese sub with my chips, and THAT was delicious. Yum!

Something sweet & savory I've bought recently that is really good & someone could make homemade if they wanted is Barber Foods Apple Cranberry with Brie stuffed chicken breasts. They're so good & only 300 calories per piece.
Mm, cranberry & brie is a fab combination in anything.

    Holy hell, yes.

I love raisins in rice (and maybe with a bit of cinnamon). So delicious  Then again I think you'd be hard-pressed to find something I don't like. I do prefer grapes to their dehydrated format, though

Cinnamon in savory rice? O.O That's even worse! No judgement from me, of course, but you have some weird tastes... :p

Well, actually I guess it's more of a rice dessert  Sometimes I'll add milk in there too, or cook it with coconut milk. My boyfriend thinks I'm weird though... the cherry on top for him was when I mixed orange juice with milk and vanilla and drank that repeatedly over a couple of weeks (strong craving). So good, like a creamsicle drink!

My mom loves BOTH of those. Rice pudding, she calls it, and the orange milk stuff too! I think she's weird, too... :p My sister loves them as well. Maybe I'm the weird one...

When I said traditional rice, I meant savory food; it's usually cooked with spices like cumin and bay leaves, and it often also has fried onions and nuts on top. And then there are those evil little raisins mixed in, pretending to be nuts. I don't actually like any of the toppings, although the nuts are okay. :p The best part is always the meat! Mmmm, meat. I miss my aunt's cooking. :o

I can't believe I forgot about rice pudding, yep that's what it is! So yummy. I'd try the savory stuff too, that actually sounds pretty good to this girl (I feel like it probably wouldn't sit too well with most Americans, though).

Embarrassing Confession: A few months ago, I found out about a website called BeautifulPeople.com through another forum. They were laughing about how ridiculous it was, and I thought it was pretty shallow a concept. However, everyone jumped in and tried to get approved. You upload a picture and if the members deem you ''beautiful enough,'' you get to become a member. Ratings are ''ABSOLUTELY NOT!'' ''No.'' ''Hmmm ok'' and ''Beautiful!'' I uploaded a picture of me (plus a false name) out of curiosity, and to my overwhelming surprise I got in! You have to pay to use their site, so I wasn't going to do that (not that I had any plans of using the site anyway :/). I feel a little embarrassed at having done that though.

(Also, yay, I haven't been flagged!)

EDIT: I have actually used it a few times, because as a member I can vote for people to get approved. I can't do anything for the women, but I always vote ''Beautiful'' on every man I see. I know how hurtful it feels to get those ''absolutely nots,'' and I want them to have at least one beautiful, because I'm one of those dopey people who think everyone has a beauty to them.

That's because you're the ONLY one that feels that way! I know the rest of us see your beauty. No need to be embarrassed if it helped with your self-esteem. You deserve it!

And, it's NOT dopey to see beauty in everyone. That is a priceless quality to have.

That's just so sweet and kind of you. Thank you! It did help my self esteem a bit, but I also admit that the ''absolutely not'' votes were hurtful
Not sure how I missed either of these - I love rice with bits in it - seeds, nuts, dried fruit. I also love rice pudding, when made properly.
Also, Fluffy, you're so pretty it doesn't surprise me that you were voted 'beautiful', although the site sounds pretty brutal.
Thank you! You guys make me smile

I'm one of those weird people who like sweet and savory in the same dishes. I also like to add golden raisins to my vegetable salads. Just for a tiny sweet burst. I put them in my homemade applesauce, too.
I love sweet/savoury together too. I also love hot and cold things together, which I know a lot of people think it weird (fries with salad, custard (English style) with a big blob of vanilla ice cream etc.

I love a few odd things....peanut butter and tomato sandwiches tops the list I think....

I have not had it in a long time, but I love a sandwich, on rye bread, with peanut butter, mayo, bacon, egg, tomato, cucumber, cheese and lettuce......
Peanut butter and tomato?! That's something I've never heard of... but if it were in front of me I'd give it a try. It sounds... interesting.

    Ooo you're brave- I couldn't do it!

Peanut butter and tomato is SO good!!!
It has to be toasted though, I should have mentioned that......

But it's not inconsistent- those threads get locked and nuked for not staying on topic because it causes so many arguments and problems, people start fighting and making things personal. Here no one argues, we all get along, we're all supportive and no one is reporting anyone. There is a huge different between this thread and all those others that are 'derailed'. Not even on the same level.

any other thread that was as off topic as this one would of been locked down by page 15….

    just saying..

so the special status is interesting.

Right, although they may also have to learn how to properly size a bra, make flapjacks or change the transmission on a Jeep Wranger on the way.

great, but last time I checked it was not a site designed for any of those things. And people are always being chastised to "stay on topic"….

Like I said, we're special snowflakes! Gotta say, though, that the latest changes to the forums really stink. Even so... Please don't get our thread killed. We love the thing!

sadly, there have been a lot of threads that i liked that were locked down and removed..

My vote, and I have mentioned it to the powers, is that this should exist in the Motivation and Support realm
