What nobody tells you about losing weight

How I use to stand to the side of my coworkers' cubicles to hide my body... I found myself still doing that behavior even after I had lost over 200 pounds... I echo a lot of what was said above. The other interesting thing was getting negative reactions from people who felt bad about themselves after my dramatic weight loss...0

That weight loss isn't linear, no matter how much you want it to be or how unfair it seems that it's not!

Yes! I'm just about in the same place (12 pounds to go). When you have 80 to lose, as I did when I started, 10 seems like NOTHING. Now it seems like Mt. Everest!
The thing is though, you started at a very high weight, you weren't only 10 lbs overweight. If that was all you had to lose then yes, I'll kick you in the *kitten* for complaining about it but that's not the case. You have a right to gripe about that last little hill you want to overcome. Cannot wait until the day I'm standing next to you and b:tching about my last 10!4 -

Shopping is no fun now.
My body has completely changed and I have no idea what looks good on me anymore. The styles I used to go for now look ridiculous. I get completely overwhelmed and end up leaving with nothing.
I'm getting better at being more adventurous with my choices and just trying stuff on, but its stressful instead of fun.6 -

How much food you can/should (according to MFP) eat a day. I have a 2 pieces of fruit, a can of vegetables, a Greek yogurt, a Subway sandwich with chips, a boiled egg, 3 oz of nuts/trail mix, a granola bar, and 7 -8 oz. of meat (steak, salmon, chicken, lean pork chops). And to top it off, I still have a few hundred calories left over.
I can't imagine what it is going to be like when I reach maintenance (losing 1 lb a week now).5 -
You will be hungry pretty much all the time unless you have a cheat day.
Everyone says you will get used to it or if you eat different types of foods (more protein, more "whole" foods, more fiber, etc.), you will feel satiated. They are lying. It will be a constant struggle to decide whether you want to feel hungry for the rest of your life or whether you will be fat for the rest of your life. I'm approaching nearly 2 years, and I'm just over 50% to my goal. It hasn't gotten any easier with time nor with different types of foods. There have been times I stuck with it only because I didn't want to leave my MFP friends.25 -

THIS! My father experienced this hardcore recently.
Sometimes, you just need proof, even if you are told.
He got on the scale last week and it said he was back up to 289 from being 284. He gets on yesterday for weigh in and is at 283! All week he was feeling down and I tried to tell him 'It's not linear, just keep going.' He kept going and BOOM!

Everyone's experience is different.
I know on workout days, I'm CONSTANTLY hungry. My body acts like it's truly starving. I know I'm not. I have that mental battle of 'I KNOW I'm feeding you enough, stop complaining!'
On days when I don't work out, I don't really get many hunger pangs.
That people will ask you why you keep working out if you already look good. Or tell you that you don't need to work out anymore.
Yes I DO! You wanna know why? Because I L VE FOOD!8 -

I must be weird because I'm finding that I'm not constantly starving all the time. When I was eating crappy food and sugary drinks I was always hungry. And grumpy and bloated.

I have days where I'm constantly starving and days where I don't even notice I'm only have 1200calories. I wish I could work out the pattern to this! Yesterday I had around 1200 calories and happily did a 60km cycle. But the day before I was constantly grazing lol.7 -

My mom dealt with this. People would ask her how she was holding up all the time thinking she had cancer....it was awkward.
She was doing weight watchers. She now is NOT a fan of them because she feels they set her goal weight too low for her to happily and healthily maintain. Now I've roped her into MFP.
Unexpected result of losing weight, roping in family and friends to MFP. :laugh:5 -

I totally agree!! It is not a every meal battle for me but it is a battle at least once a day I have to push through. I am thankful for the little victories and try not to shame myself if I lose. We are human !!2 -

This might be true for you but it is not true for everyone. Some days are like this for me, however most are not.1 -

Same for me.
Only time I'm not hungry is right after a meal.
I have short, medium and long term goals and I WILL meet them.

Agreed. Most days I'm not hungry. When I am hungry, I know that it's because I didn't eat enough the night before. This is the reason I eat a large portion of my calories at night. Meal timing might not matter for losing weight, but it sure makes it easier for me hunger-wise if I eat enough at night.
Yes, I agree. If I have an abnormally low calorie day (due to being busy or lack of appetite), the next day I'm typically starving. Also, if I don't eat enough of my exercise calories, sometimes I'm hungry. Otherwise, I'm usually satisfied (so long as I'm eating nutrient-rich, high-volume foods; junk food leaves me hungry unless I eat too many calories).0 -

sugar and crap food which quickly converts to it makes your body release insulin which tells you that you are hungry.1
