#dailycheckin - I see others did bad wth eating & drinking this past weekend! My lands... I knew with the winery DAY it was going to be bad but...LAWD! This weekend destroyed everything good I had done but we had a great time. Good weather... enjoy some sun on the patios of 3 wineries. And gained about 10 lbs it feels like. But... MOVING ON! I did great with my eating yesterday... more out of guilt than anything. :D
Last night we went to our town's Community Fest meeting. We have now been put in charge of the homebrew competition - it's the 1st ever for our Community Fest. The committee seemed pretty excited that we wanted to do it. It is Indiana's Bicentennial anniversary so every fest in our area has tons of stuff going on this year. So excited to get outside and see what everyone has.
    I'll check in more later.
    Welcome newbies! ~Make it a great day!~

Sounds like fun!! That will be a great experience but probably a lot of work on your part!
Way to step past the guilt of the weekend and move forward! I had planned on a bad weekend and I wasn't too worried! We are always going to have those challenges and its best to just get past them and move on! =)

Ahhhhhh! So many posts to catch up on! I'll go back and re-read some of them. I saw many people posting about Girl Scout cookies. My boyfriend and I got ours a few weeks ago and the boxes are still not open! We actually have a whole bag of Ghirardelli chocolate from his trip to San Francisco still sitting in our pantry. Old me would have devoured all of the chocolate, but now, it's just a little treat here or there.

I am doing a whole new lifting routine (three days, alternating between two workouts: so one week will have 2 workout As and 1 workout B, and another week will have 2 workout Bs and 1 workout A) for the next two months and I'm also doing the C25K. I am currently doing the C25K on the treadmill to help me up my speed because I know when I run outside, I have NO endurance whatsoever and end up running at a snail's pace. I'm also running on inclines on the treadmill to help me prepare for the hills around my neighborhood.

Food wise, doing okay. We made Apple Bacon BBQ Pulled Pork and it is DELICIOUS, but there are so many sugars in it! I know it's because I used a pretty large apple and should have just used half of that in the recipe, but it's too late now. It's my "fruit" for the day. :D

Way to go on the plan! Always good to have a plan and stick to it!! And great NSV keeping the treats a treat and not devouring them!! That's awesome! Will power!!! Keep up the great work!!

I am here because I need to lose 80 pounds. My goal is currently 30. I lost 60+ once before. That was before I had my children. I had a wellness coach that supported me at that time. I now need some one to support my efforts again. Can anyone tell me how to "friend" people on here? I want to be support as well as receive it.

Check in here often and we will be all the friends you need!! ;) Will love to follow your journey!

I dropped another .9 this week! I'm excited that I'm finally on a roll with losing weight after sticking with maintenance for the holidays. My significant other decided he wants to lose too so he started Atkins this week (ugh). On the bright side my house is going to smell like bacon for a month. At least the dog is excited about his diet shift? And I don't have to share cookies

Way to go Rachel!! Nice work .9 lb is awesome!! Mmmmm Bacon! ;)

Well, this was me yesterday.... it seems like I have reverted to my old ways this week! So frustrating. Oh, I'm happy! let's eat. I'm bored! Let's eat something else... I'm watching Bachelor finale... I'm just going to eat that too! LIKE WTFFFF???!!!!! I know there are ups and downs, but man, the human mind (mine in particular) is such a mystery. How one day we can feel like a sexy beast, and the next day we are back to pre-diet "I don't care, I'm just going to scarf everything in sight!" mentality.
We all have those days!! Trust me!! I know I do!! You are doing amazing and then BAM! Oh look cake! Cookies! Chips! Soda! UGh! But way to get right back on track and keep moving forward... that's all we can do. Sometimes we just need that day and then move on!! You got this Joy!!! Thanks for sharing a struggle, as we all know we have them as well!

Then you will love reading mine every Monday Debbie!! LOL! You have to give yourself a day here and there and then get back on track right away! It's the hardest when you jump ship for multiple days! That's when it really gets you! Welcome!! Hope to hear more from you daily!

Nichole @ngolden3320 Sorry to hear Happy Scale was messing with you! It's good you figured it out early and temporarily kicked it to the curb

    Welcome Debbie (@tdjna)

Joy (@bluepoppies777) Not eating feelings is sooooo hard not to do! Any time I get anxious (especially social anxiety) I immediately want to shove all the food into my mouth. You're not being a downer at all. I love the idea of the note card.

Jen (@ChangeisaDecision) Not all weekends have to be healthy in my book, especially ones with amazing wine ;)

Shy (@ShyCush6) Your posts make me laugh out loud! You find some of the greatest memes :)

I would love to join this group too! I am a 42 yr old mother of 3 looking to lose 60 or so pounds. I have always been overweight, but had managed to maintain my "happy medium" for several years. I have gained an extra 25 over the past few years and am starting over again at trying to take it off + some. This looks like a great place to check in. I am currently eating 1200 calories starting yesterday, I have been doing 1500 for the past 3 weeks and just not seeing the results that I would like. We'll see how it goes. I have an elliptical at home and usually try to workout 4-5 times a week for 30-45 minutes. I am a quiet poster, but love to see everyone's stories.

Good Morning All. Happy Hump Day!

Wasn't feeling the cardio at the gym yesterday. I only did 10 minutes on the bike however I did kick butt at the strength training. I worked on arms and some abs. Really feeling it in the neck and shoulders this morning. Does anyone know how to figure out how many calories you are burning doing strength training? (Do you even burn calories)

Spring is around the corner I can now feel it in my head this morning. I have a terrible sinus headache. ugh!

Hi everyone -another newcomer here! I'm Helen, 28 and living on the outskirts of London. Need to lose at least 15 pounds (conservative start goal) but more importantly feel healthy and strong again. Since starting a stressful desk-based career the weight just slowly creeps on - have tried MFP with some success in the past but I tend to run out of steam. With a move across the country and hopefully a new job imminent, I'm going to need all the motivation I can get!

Feel free to add if you'd like and Iooking forward to supporting your successes!

I have 35-40 lbs. to lose. I'm a 51 year old secretary and know how important support groups are in this journey. When I've put my mind to it, I've been successful in the past. Looking to share the ups and downs of this journey with others and to give and receive motivation. (Now I have to figure out how to add friends, as I never explored that part of MFP.)

Hello new people, jump right in and join the club, feel free to add me as a friend.

(Changels) Jen – Home brewing competition? Sounds like my kind of festival!

(jkhoffe) Jen – I know right! Would be great to have another running buddy. Maybe we can do transatlantic running swaps, you can come to the UK for a running holiday and I’ll come over to the States – how cool would that be! Lol Going to a Casino with friends at the weekend sounds like great fun, enjoy.

June – I run at a snail’s pace, it doesn’t matter, you go as slow as you need to. My coach says over time you build up the mileage and your pace will eventually just get quicker naturally. My next goal is to increase my pace. Your Apple Bacon BBQ Pulled Pork sound absolutely delightful.

Amber – Well done on getting out there and getting some exercise in, once you start doing it regularly it will just become habit, and before long it will just be something you do as part of your normal routine.

Gill – That’s interesting that you’ve had a small loss already, I’m intrigued because I’m wondering whether I should up my calories slightly now I’m doing so much more exercise. I do try to eat a bit more on days I know I’m going to be running, I might start playing around with mine and see what results I get.

Joy – Totally get you, I was like that yesterday, I just wanted to eat everything in sight, I managed to keep it under control until dinner time last night, but we were both so tired that we ended up having a ‘quick and easy’ dinner which wasn’t particularly nutritious, but it’s what we both wanted (craved) when we looked through the fridge/freezer, so it was fish and chips and beans which took me over my calories, but it tasted good! Then, after I’d completed my dairy, I ate a bunch of Oreo’s and some chocolate, I just couldn’t seem to stop once I’d started. I think it was because I was so tired, and I mean really tired, like ‘walking dead’ tired (I slept for 11 hours straight last night!). Hopefully today will be a better day, so far so good...

Debbie – See the above post haha. You’ll love our Monday posts then, most of us struggle with weekends, but it’s about acknowledging those blips rather than pretending they didn’t happen, and moving on.

Nichole – Ok, so you weren’t feeling the cardio, but good job on getting onto the strength training instead. I have no idea how to measure that in calorie burn terms, does MFP not give you a general idea somewhere? Might be an idea to look for some threads about it.

Thanks to everyone for the wonderful messages and memes regarding my Running Club achievement, I am so happy about it. I’ve now got to figure out a training plan to keep moving forward with it as I’m hoping to get my time down, but I’m not entirely sure how to do that, I guess I just keep running 5k until I find it easy and move on from there. If anyone has any suggestions let me know I’d be grateful of the input.

    Welcome newcomers, keep posting!

I had a bit of a revelation last night. I ate dinner last night and the thought went through my head, "Why not just skip Muay Thai and curl up on the couch with the box of cookies?" I'm not going to lie, I almost did it.

But then I knew all the guys would wonder where I was and I want to set myself up as a reliable and dependable team member, so I dragged myself there. And I had an amazing time like I always do. Having that team accountability saved me big time from binge eating last night. I knew I missed having these classes in my life, but I never realized how thoroughly they shape my eating patterns.

Rachel I am right there with you. There are some days where I would like to skip the gym and just lay around and eat. I always feel better once I have completed everything. We are making progress, The old me was easily able to talk myself out of going. And I don't know about anyone else, but I feel now if I skip one day that makes it easier to skip the next day. I usually don't go on the weekends but hubby and I are starting to go to the parks on Sundays for a hike now that it is getting nicer. And on Saturdays I am up and down the basement steps a min of 10 times doing laundry, and more then that depending on how many of my 3 kids decides to bring their dirty cloths down. I can't wait for summer when everyone wears shorts. A lot less cloths. :#

Thanks everyone for the encouragement, felt like a hug!! I am feeling more positive today, I literally willed the *kitten* out of myself yesterday and stayed within my calories and did not snack after dinner. Also went with my friend to that barre class! So I felt really good last night, like I was successful in day one of a diet! Lol! Sounds dumb, but feels like an accomplishment. It's hard when your mind gets completely off track to drag it back on!

Cari, one way to up your speed in the running club is to take one evening a week and do hill training. There should be something online to tell you what to do, but when I was training for my half marathons, our group would literally find a big hill, and run up and down it. Makes you go faster on the flat the next day! (If it doesn't kill you)! Also, you can start doing simple interval speed training. Even sprinting from one telephone pole to the next, then walking to the next one, then sprinting to the next etc. It will kick your butt, but it will increase your speed as well!

Rachel, you are so awesome! My hero. Snuggle up with the pooch and cookies?!? Nope. Go to your class instead! That is my type of win this week!! Thanks for the motivation!!!!!

Jen, the casino with friends sounds fun! Def get in some good work outs to counteract the drinks etc!

Hope everyone has a good day today. I'm still biking to work and liking it! Sure starts out the day with fresh air and a smile!

I concur, it is quite a challenge to not give into cravings, to stop at a certain calorie count, to get up and move when we don't feel like it, to not eat after dinner, etc. This is amazing to me when I think about how good we can actually feel when we do eat healthy and exercise! It is so simple, and so easy to forget. Over time, our new healthy choices will become our norm... I'm inspired by you all!

@ngolden3320 Strength training won't burn as many calories during the workout, but will actually up your metabolism over the next few hours and you'll continue to burn calories after the workout. Same thing goes with short and intense exercise (HIIT, Tabata are examples). Great work!

Good morning everyone & welcome to all the newbies! I haven't been getting my daily steps in lately so I really need to at least work on that. I don't know why, but if I don't go walking at the track directly after work then I usually wont go after I get home unless my husband comes with me. Last night he was more into cleaning up our back yard and patio, so I guess that is better than nothing. But I did get out and play a little basketball with my son. Darn kid! I used to play basketball in high school (way too many years ago) and he kills me every time! It's not even a competition! He is the kind of kid that is incredibly athletic and pretty good at most sports, but he wont play on a team at school or a rec team. He just likes playing with his friends in the back yard. It's going to be a busy couple of days trying to get caught up on housework and laundry, then we are heading back to Florida this weekend to work on the house again. That seems to be a pretty good workout! We usually work from about 8:00 in the morning until probably 8:00 in the evening most days. We are exhausted by the end of the weekend! Usually not great food choices, because who wants to stop and cook a meal when you are busy working? But we have been trying to do a little better and at least bringing food with us instead of eating every meal out. Halfway through the week! Hope everyone has a great day!

Hey ladies! So my daughter encouraged me to run again last night... I had a rough go of it and I walked some so she left me in the dust... I am really motivated to get into running more as she is really into it and I want to be there to challenge and keep her going! So proud of her! I thought someone mentioned an app that helped them but I don't see it and I'd love to try it! I've read the whole minute/2 minute... etc.. but how do you keep track when you are focusing on running... last time I did one block/2 blocks, etc and that helped but I would love for a app to tell me what to do... I know.. sounds lazy... but maybe it would force me to do it...

Shy, go for it! Running is so awesome, I miss it a lot! I need a new bionic knee and then I can do it again. Lol! I'm not sure about the app, but with the watch, you buy a specific running watch. Mine were Garmin or Ironman, and they have a specific timer that you can set for whatever you want, the 1 min rest, 2 or 5 min run. You run, it beeps, you walk for your 1 min, and then it beeps and you start up again! If you have a store in your area like The Running Room, they have those watches in stock all the time. Takes the thinking out of it! Just work your way up to 10 min running, 1 min walking. It's a great system, people do it for all running races, short or marathon length.

    update on the calorie change.
Day 3 and my first day of doing my extra exercise.
My daily calorie goal is 1590.
my exercise for today as racked up another 850 calories from kickboxing, playing beanbag football and walking the dog.
I have managed to eat 1291 calories and it is now 8pm and I really don't think I could eat anything else.
leaving me with 1149 calories left over.

Joy - Thanks for the input. I do already have some hills on my route, I hate hills but I am getting better with them!
Jen - Excellent, i'll check that app out.
Shy - I use an app on my phone called 'Runtastic Timer', you basically set the intervals you want, so say a 3 min warm up, then run for 1 min, walk for 1 min, and you want to do 5 sets, then it just tells you when to walk or run. You can adjust the time to what ever you like so as you progress you can increase the running time and decrease the rest times.
I went for a run tonight and I set my phone to 4 min runs, 1 min walk, then after doing this twice I thought, "why am I doing intervals?", so just ran the rest of my route - I think I needed to prove to myself Monday night wasn't some weird fluke and I could keep running. I did ok, I basically ran for just over 20 mins straight, i'll work with that and keep trying to increase my distance/pace.

Walked almost 10,000 steps today and done a body pump class at the gym - exercise makes me feel amazing! Also decided to take some measurments today and I've lost 4 and a half inches since my last measurments, so happy with that. Also noticed that I'm fitting into some of my old clothes and my figure is getting more toned. I've not really had much of an apetite today so I'm a bit worried I'm not eating enough calories but hopefully it will come back in the next few days. Days like today are so motivating. :)
