Good morning all, Heading out for a walk right away this morning so I can get close to my 10,000 step goal. I want to finish the Safe Operating Procedures I am doing for a local company, then I will have the weekend free. Really not a free weekend - I will be outside getting my garden put to bed.

Janet really cute baby Llama, I love them and goats, my Grands bought me a cuddly toy Goat which I still have.
I am at DDs for a few days eating not so good, Chinese takeaway last night but I only ate half will have the rest tonight. Took the dog for a walk with my DGS this morning and unpacked loads of boxes of books and shelved them ( hopefully that burned a few calories)
Resting my back at the moment reading your posts

OK, who is ready for their Bea fix. DDIL just sent me this.
And this one of the other two out finding all the "snow dogs" around the town. You can see what the centre of Brighton looks like.
Can't wait to see them on Monday. I now have four houses to view. Hoping for another one.

Heidi, Happy birthday! It was mine, too.

Re – Not a soul in town; only big trucks on highway. DH is now home, I drove home … GEEZ, if I was a gun carrier, I might have shot him to get us both out of misery. He tolerated the procedure; but, this next week, with a urine bag hooked to his thigh; he is not going to be a ‘happy camper’. MD said the blood was usual. He sort of had this stunned look on his face when I told him that another MD in his practice (now out on a ‘medical leave’ – and the rumors have been flying) had done it the last time when he was fully awake; and, if this procedure is ever going to happen again, it WILL be done in their surgery center and NOT awake. He told DH that the opening was about the size of the tip of a pen, before you click it so the ink cartridge will pop out; and, was about 1” long! Really had a time breaking through it. It is because he had radiation seeds implanted about 15 years ago. I know I drove him to the hospital because we thought he was passing a kidney stone, which he was actually doing. The put him in that tub that breaks them up so he could pass them on his own, without having to have any type of procedure or surgery.
GEEZ, I’d like that other MD to go through it as well and not be put under. Karma is what I’d call it. He had to thread a wire up his Johnson and break through the scar tissue and ‘roto-root’ it out. He has taken an antibiotic, a pain pill, a muscle relaxant and he is ‘still awake’. Oh! Snap!
He had me so flustered that when we drove through the drive-thru, I almost drove right through it, he yelled at me; but, thankfully the guy behind me saw that I had not stopped and honked him horn and motioned for me to back up so I could place my order. Of course, I drove through the DQ drive-thru, simply because my DGDs had said, they wanted to 'go through a drive-thru'; they were so embarrassed (but also laughing at the same time) and it was funny to me. "Little Bit", was not quite old enough to know what we had actually done. Got to the window and told the cashier that we were just driving through the drive-thru. Such a dumbfounded look on her face. I laughed and we drove off. About an hour later, we came back and went inside. They have 2 drive-thru lanes at the little Chik-Fe-Let in Albany; and I was looking at the 2nd order kiosk; when I thought that the 2nd one was actually ‘behind’ the building. We parked in the mall parking lot and I told him that ‘if’ he was going to ‘back-seat drive’ he needed to be sitting back there. On the way home, he told me I ‘was doing a good job’.
Monday he has to drive me to Macon to see PsycheMD and have lunch with several HS friends. I sure hope he feels better than he does now. Says it is leaking around his penis; if that continues I will have to call the MD back; and, he might not be ‘on call’ this weekend; but, he told DH that he should call the MD 'on call' and they'd meet him at the ER; not to allow the ER MD to do anything to him insofar as the catheter is concerned. DH goes back Thursday to see if he can have the catheter removed; then his MD goes on vacation for 2 weeks. Planned before the other Urologist went out on a ‘medical leave’. He must have been on some kind of drugs for him to expect that DH could tolerate that type of surgery/procedure without anesthesia.
If I did ‘squats’; I’d fall over backwards. No balance; but, I did buy a pair of those ankle high boots with a chunky heel … love them; but, that makes me the height of the heel taller than DH. I have had to get used to walking in them; but, had to do the same with the sandals that DDnL#2 gave me because they rubbed her heels.
Lisa – Ellie is a ‘cutie’ … was it a big adjustment for your DS; and, also for his daughter? Makes me wonder what the Mother said to her. Is she about 3 or 4? I agree with NYKAREN, there is going to be a ‘long adjustment’ period on everybody’s side. At that age, DH’s daughter was already flying from New Orleans to Jacksonville, with a ‘helper’ who would only turn her over to the 2 people on the list … her Daddy and her Nana and they had to show picture ID; name and address had to match what his ‘ex’ had put on the sheet.
Heather – Bea looks like such a ‘happy’ baby; I cannot even imagine her crying; seems like she goes along with whatever program that is set for her.

Heather thank you so much for a Bea fix.
I haven't written much lately because I am working on a tribute to my mom.
This is what I have...
Did someone mention trip? Now you are on the trip of a life time to meet Dad, Marian, your son who never got a chance to grow up, parents Elizabeth and Arthur, sisters Libby, Esther, Jenna…other relatives like Evie, Petra, John, Carl (Joe’s son) …friends Eileen, Hester, Jeanie, Dorthy…
Oh the place Lesley not to be confused with Leslie went in her lifetime…Italy, Sweden, Germany, Russia, Greece, the Panama Canal, Canada…
She climbed the steps on the Parthenon at age eighty and rode an elephant with Jenna in India.
Did someone mention let’s go out to eat? She would be lining up at the door with family and friends. If not let’s meet at the round table in the dining room. She would say I’ll make the creamed onions and lemon meringue pie.
Did someone mention read? Mom devoured books like I like to eat ice cream (Lesley’s favorite too!) Books were a salvation to her. In India where she was born children were sent to boarding school by age six to protect them from the ravished of disease so prevalent there at the time. The previous generation of missionary children often died. To manage being sent to school so young she escaped to books like Dr. Doolittle at age seven. As an adult Agatha Christe and Mary Higgins Clark novel , The New Yorker, and The Post-Dispatch became her main stays.
Did someone mention knitting? There she would be knitting sweaters, afghans, hats, gloves, and baby outfits for babies of mothers in need while NCIS and Doc Marin played. Along with knitting she was quite the seamstress like the smocked dresses she made, and I still feel the green velvet bridesmaid dress. Luscious!
Did someone mention bridge? She was always ready for a foursome. She made more than one Grand Slam in her lifetime.
Did someone mention Colin Firth? She, Marian, and I were fans long before his King’s Speech.
Did someone mention flowers? Particularly roses and daffodils. She enjoyed her Garden Club and spectacular days of visiting the Botanical Gardens. What a treat to see the yellow faces of the daffodils lining the front of her home of sixty years on Greenleaf Drive like good friends waiting to say hello. I can still smell the red roses by the side entrance. HOME!
Did some mentions Christmas? Bah Humbug! She would say. Let’s go out to eat or bake another batch of cookies to add the ten dozen already made.
Did someone mention Atom? Let’s change the subject and talk about politics “Go Democrats” (she rebelled against her Republican father) or history instead. (Fred wanted it noted she did confide in him that she voted for Wendell Winkie in 1940.) English history was her favorite. She loved that trip to England she took with Hester. Although she could not quite bring herself to join the Daughter of the American Revolution like Esther. (Grant Wood would be so proud!)
Did someone mention love? After being bless with children Marshall, Marian, Stan, and Margaret and those who cared for her children as adults Kristina, Ellen, John, Bob, Terry, and Fred it was a blessing to meet grandchildren Per, Carl, Elizabeth, Emily, Kate, John, and Brian. Then to have great grandchildren Dal, Aurora, Nora, Aubrey, Ryan, and Bennett. Icing on the cake.
Did someone mention War? She said her teeth went to pot and lost a baby son I’ll will never know while waiting for Marshall her husband to return from the war. War, the Depression, college at Carleton, and living briefly with her parents with two small children in Minneapolis (Her father sold their Minneapolis home and moved to Austin) filled her youth. The sale of her parent’s home forced a move to a Quonset Hut at the University of Minnesota while husband Marshall finished his PHD. What a relief to find sanctuary in the City of Kirkwood and Webster Grove Congregational Church (the denomination of her missionary parents.) Here for over sixty years she enjoyed family, friends, and could indulge her shopping tooth at Famous Barr with her employee discount. Ours too!
Did someone mention goodbye? Yes! We who are here today in body and in spirit. We are here to say we miss your smile, laugh, the twinkle in your eyes, and your dry British sense of humor. You touched many lives in your 98 years. We love you… Thank you for being our mom, grandma, great-grandma, friend, and being you.
Love you,
Margaret

Margaret, beautiful. I can only hope to live my life is such a way that my daughters will remember me like this. What a special lady she must have been. We know that because her very special daughter is our friend.

Margaret, what a lovely tribute! Your mom sounded like quite a spitfire!
Heather, thank you for my Bea Fix! The face of an angel. I have a feeling she will be quite the handful though!
A happy child gives me such hope for the future, a visual that a smile is all we need to put us all right again :-)
I am trying to come to terms with my hair these days. It's a grown out short haircut, and if I wash it at night, I wake up to interesting curly hair. It reminds me of the 1940's when wavy hair with bobby pins were all the fashion! Of course I don't have any "dippity Do" to do it. Soo...its more like late 1960's curly hair....picture Janis Joplin but with shorter hair...
You ask why I take a shower before I retire, well with mentalpause it just feels better! I start my night out abhorring my covers, then sometime during the night we make friends. It feels good to start my night with a wet head. It's crazy how mentalpause will make my inner temperature so hot, I actually feel fuzzy. Not light-headed, but like my body is incased in an adult Onesie!
This morning I woke up fairly early. Not as early as my teenager. We both yelled at him "Have a good day at school" at 7:15 am when he opened the door to go to the bus. Sometimes we are up with him, but most of the time we let him have the rule of the roost. I remember being a teenager EONS ago, and it was fun being the only one up doing my thing. Also interacting with him in the morning is pretty much a monosyllabic kind of thing. In the afternoons when he bounces up the stairs, (yep he bounces UP...I can hear him!)... you get a running monologue of his daily highs. What the teachers said, what his friends said.....and its peppered with "you know like" every few moments. As parents, we are thrilled he loves school so passionately, and we try not to say, "Don't say "like" so often". I was 36 when I had this amazing kid, and some days my age really shows, but most days his energy is just infectious!
So after we hear him go, my husband usually takes his shower, and the sound of the water lulls me back to a deep sleep. Last night I told him to wake me up after his shower, so we could eat oatmeal together, which he made and we did.
I have one more Christmas project to do, the candy trains, but I am holding off until later in November.
Last year my MFP advent calendar was fun. Lets do it again ok? To all that are new to this site, I have a felt calendar that has a nice story of "why is there a star upon our Christmas tree" etc.. My mom and I made a bunch of felt ornaments that are flat with pins on the back. So those are in the date pockets along with a piece of paper of the story. I had friends on here that wished to participate send me a picture of them that I put on the tree. My requirements are that the picture be the size of a quarter of a bit bigger. Face forward picture. No emails just a picture stuck in an envelope with your site name/or real first name, and where you are from if you wish. During the month of December I will post the story, and a picture of the tree and who is on it. Just as we are one big worldwide family, we come together on my tree. Just message me privately and I will send you my address.

Out to lunch with sister and met some of her retired friends. Very nice time. I get tickled at how these small town folks fuss about their traffic. When they stop at a cross street they never like a wait for traffic to pass. They should visit me for a true rush hour experience!

Margaret - I just LOVE your tribute. Wonderful and very moving.
Just had a nice long phone call with DSIL. Good to chat about family traumas and other lighter matters. We did laugh.
Enjoying your take on life, Becca.
Had a very nice bottle of red wine tonight that DS (a wine buff) gave DH for his birthday. From Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley. We liked it so much we have just ordered 6 more bottles. We had it with spicy roast duck legs and PILES of veggies.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxx

Margaret ~ As others have said, what a wonderful tribute to you mother. I am so glad that you have fond memories of her. I know it was difficult on your last visit when she didn't recognize you and am waiting for the time when I will have to face that with my mom.
Lisa ~ What a lovely granddaughter you have. I don't know the circumstances but am glad your son got to meet her.

So cute!! Do you have a name? Gayle0 -
Margaret – Your Mother was a ‘gem’ from your Eulogy. First paragraph: Add an ‘s’ to … “place” Lesley (not to be confused with Leslie) went in her lifetime. Don’t know if some of the people who might have known your mother would quite understand the bit about being confused with Leslie – one spelled wit E-Y, the other I-E (or if they are even pronounced the same). One might be LESS-lee; the other might be LEZ-lee
Several rows down, you talk about two novelist … add a ‘s’ to ‘novel’. Sometimes a misspelled word will trip us up when making a speech that comes from the heart. Do not leave anything out of it … it is beautiful!!!!!
War paragraph. I’m not so sure that I would take that part of father selling the Minnesota home and moved to Austin and make it its own sentence; put it AFTER that entire sentence has been read. I say this because it is a long sentence within a sentence.
Goodbye paragraph - We’ll miss your smile, instead of we miss your smile
If you are going to read this; I would suggest putting each subject matter on individual index cards; easier to read about each section; and, you won’t lose you place in the middle. Believe me, it will be very moving to everyone … ESPECIALLY YOU. Practice it, reading it out loud, to someone, or to yourself in a mirror.
Just go back and read it slowly. Putting on index cards (4 x 6 or 5 x 7) … probably the bigger ones, will help you also look up and at those sitting in the congregation between each one and catch your breath. DH was going to say something at his Mother’s funeral; and, he just could not do it, it was way too upsetting to him, he choked up and cried instead and he was in his 60's at the time.
Just some small suggestions. She reminds me of my own Mother who did pretty much the same things … although she did join the DAR! She even went back so far as those coming over on the Mayflower on one branch of her family. None of the 3 of us were interested until many years after her death, when we each asked the others ‘if they had her gold bars’. We did not know they were stored behind the locked buffet door in the same place that Daddy kept his liquor (she kept the key). We just figured that it was 'stuck'. She was with us when we were dividing up her stuff before putting her into an Assisted Living Facility. She wanted to see who got what. I think she kept the gold bars because she intended on staying active. She was a 'life' member; and, shortly after her BF's death; they put a small monument on each of their graves. One of my BFs (one of a twin) sent me the introduction of my Mother for something. It was written on adding machine tape; and, was 64" long. I still have it somewhere in my desk. This is the same woman who had asked that we put her 'club associations' on the placard on her grave. Gee, it would have reached to the bottom of their BF's grave and would have cost a mint. So she got the same as Daddy ... full name, date of birth - date of death. She and my Daddy went to every state in the USA and also went to Russia with a group of attorneys and their spouses.
You are so blessed to have had her in your life for this long of a time in your lifetime. I know she brought a lot of people ‘joy’ before you came along, too. {{{{{hughs}}}}} and {{{{{prayers}}}}}
Our DYS used to work for a man named “Grant Wood” (but, I am sure it isn’t/wasn’t the same one).
I doubt that that I could ever live up to your Mother’s way of life. She was very special to a whole lot of you. You are special to us; and ‘thanks for sharing this beautiful Eulogy with us.
Becca – I go to sleep with my hair wet a lot! DH does not ‘like’ it curly; which it is. I bought a new flat iron that is a brush; and, boy does that make it a lot easier to dry it out the way my DDnL#2 did when she and her co-worker cut it and worked on it. Got a body wave in it when I got home, because they said it would give it more lift … the day I got it; walked out and it started raining! Since them I have not been able to dry and roll it around the brush as they did. But, they were standing at a different position that I can get into in order to do it.
DnL#1 can’t believe that I ‘make my bed first thing after getting out of it’ or that I ‘put dirty dishes in the dishwasher before going to bed instead of sitting in the sink’ … “Because it makes me ‘feel’ like my house is cleaner, even if it isn’t.” I just cannot get back in an unmade bed. Her attitude is,' well, you are just going to get back in it the next night'. Some nights I barely dry my body off after my shower and crawl into my ‘made-up bed’ totally naked! Feels so good! DH usually covers me up before he wakes me up for ‘fresh coffee’.
Your son will learn not to use the work ‘like’ in that manner when he joins the Navy. Because someone over him in rank is ‘not going to ‘know like’ … LOL! Enjoy the HELL out of him these next few months, they will ‘fly’ by!!!! PM to follow!
Toni – It is like the light coming on, for you to walk over 6 lanes of traffic; then it counts down from 20 and you are fumbling with beach chairs. You better get your ‘junk’ and move along because when the light changes, they might not!
Lenora0 -
Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Good Evening Ladies,
Re, you are so right about the hazards of cooking brownies. I can’t even remembered the last time I did. I mean like years and years ago. DH wasn’t eating them fast enough so I froze most of them today and left him a few but put them in the fridge. He usually warms them and then puts ice cream and chocolate syrup on it. Oh yes and whipped cream. I mean really. And he has been losing weight the last 6 or 8 months. It’s just not fair!!! Now I’m proud of you for laying off the fried foods. You keep that up, ya hear?
Cheri, it sounds like your DD is doing well. I hope it continues. Glad you approve of the BF.
SueBDue, congrats on the loss. Way to go. Keep it up!! Woo hoo
Katla, I know it’s been great being with that beautiful new baby but there’s no place like home. It sounds like your DH is doing well without you even though I know he’ll be happy when you get home.
Allie, I think sticking to the couch sounds like exactly what you need. I hope you are feeling better soon!!!!
Lisa, Ellie is a doll baby. I’ll bet your son couldn’t stop smiling. How sweet.
Heather, how great that you get to do Grand duty while you are in Hove. Woopee
Kay, . Shame on you for not telling us it was your birthday!!!
Lillian, Sue had me looking at the calendar too. I’m never sure what day it is after I retired but I did’t think it was Saturday yet. LOL
Heidi, you have to tell us when it’s your BD so we can throw you a party. We love to celebrate. I hope it was a good one.
Heather, thanks for the Bea fix and the other two darling grands, as well. Good luck on house hunting!!!
Margaret, great tribute to your Mom. I know she would be proud! ((((Hugs))))
Toni, have a wonderful visit.
Rita, inquiring minds want to know….how did you have a free lunch at Chili’s????

I got my nails done this morning at 9:00. That’s as early as I want out since I retired. Lol I was going to the Moose Lodge with a friend to update the sponsor list and have lunch but we put it off until tomorrow. I’m making ground beef with bell peppers and onions for dinner. DH will have burritos and I’ll do a taco salad. I also made guacamole with just one avocado. We are having absolutely beautiful weather. Highs in the high 70’s and no humidity. My kind of fall. Sending love and good thoughts to all of you and I hope you all have a Happy and Healthy Day!
