    Sigh.

    My Garmin will no longer pair with my phone. I have tried everything I could find online, including power cycling both the watch and the phone, turning bluetooth off and on, removing the device from Garmin Connect, you name it. Nothing works. The app keeps telling me it can't find the watch.

    Has anyone else had this issue? Is there anything else I can try? If I can't figure it out soon, I guess I'll have to contact Garmin tech support.

    I had this happen before and literally spent hours turning Bluetooth off and on, uninstalling/reinstalling the app, powering off the watch and phone. It finally reconnected but I don't know why. I had continued problems for awhile where my texts wouldn't come through. I think an update to my phone software actually caused it and when I got another update all the problems finally went away.

    Didn't sleep very well at all last night. Decided would try long run (20k) anyway, but wouldn't beat myself up if I just didn't have it in me.

    When I first set out my GPS just wasn't working, even after trying to turn it off and on a couple of times. I was heading out on a new route for me so had no idea about distances so eventually I stopped after about 2.7k (at the point I was diverting from a previously used route) whilst I completely rebooted my phone to try to get GPS working again. Unfortunately made the mistake of drinking too much whilst I was stopped, so when I set off again had lots of liquid bouncing about in my stomach with inevitable consequences. Managed 1.2km before having to walk for a few minutes. I decided to divert via a nearby wooded area just in case (and because it took me back in the direction towards home), and when things had calmed down again I tried to run again. Got another 1.9k before I had to give up running completely and walked the last ~2k home. Typically by time I got home I felt fine but obviously motivation completely gone. Frustrating but I'll rest up this afternoon and try again tomorrow. I'm just focusing on fact I still managed 5.8k running (plus a fair bit of walking) so can't be too upset!

    Another plus side to todays run is I the wooded area I found seems like a fantastic hilly trail running spot, so I'll definitely be investigating more on future runs!

    @RespectTheKitty -- glad it's working now. So frustrating. But Garmin tech support is very good.

    Nice run with my daughter today. She flies back to NYC today and I'm on a four day field trip starting tomorrow. Students presenting a project they wrote using HTC Vive. I always love the convention but it's so hard getting everything planned for the rest of my students.

    Finished out the week in Iowa with a chilly run this morning. I had to go back in the house and get more layers as it felt colder than the temp indicated. Rain is headed in pretty soon so I'm glad to have gotten the run in. All my runs this week have felt really good, and I ended up with 25.5 miles for the week. According to Strava, I haven't done that much in a week since the week of September 5, which was before I did my half marathons (the trail one and my goal one in Oct). I'm happy with my progress because I felt pretty beat up after those races and now am running pain free. Who knows, maybe I will be crazy enough to do another one someday. :)

    Tomorrow I head back home on an early flight, so I plan to take it as a rest day. I'll have to see how the rest of the week pans out. I know there will be snow on the ground at home but not sure what the forecast is shaping up to be. I haven't wanted to look yet.

    11/11 3 miles - I've missed a whole week! I caught a heavy cold in my chest where I could hardly get a sentence out without coughing never mind trying to run. It was totally self inflicted as I didn't dress properly for the huge drop in temperature when running the week before. Plus I was mental busy workwise so could read the posts I did see @5BeautifulDays is back so Welcome Back!
    27/11 3.5 miles - 1st run in over 2 weeks, too busy with work, I need to manage my time better cos its the same every year.

    @RespectTheKitty - Glad ur feeling a bit better.

    Glad you got it back working. I recall once my watch wouldn't sync with the phone. I tried a bunch of stuff, including deleting the watch as a known Bluetooth device and repairing. I got it working again, but I don't know which things I tried were irrelevant and which fixed it.

    One thing I've noticed and been annoyed by is that Garmin Connect on my phone refuses to talk to my watch unless it has an internet connection. So the morning my ISP went down, I couldn't sync my watch to the phone until I turned off WiFi on the phone and let it use network data at home. I think that's an incredibly dumb way to design an app, but that's what it does.

    @7lenny7 I improved my time by 10 min, but since it was my second time I do this distance (once in training) my time isn't something to brag about, just 5 min above 2 hours. But hey I felt my body break at 15k and it was fun, fun, fun. Great job for your trail run, awesome pics mate

    8 km run in a minor snow fall -14C = 7F. Fine outbound - inbound was into a very slight NW wind and straight into the snow = Frozen Eyelashes. Between the snow hitting your face and perspiration I had to stop twice to but a bare hand on my eyelashes to melt the ice = Frozen together = no vision. Between Swim Club and running it has been a very busy week - legs were heavy today.

    @Orphia Congrats on a new PB and making it to 50 parkruns!

    @Elise4270 Glad to see you beginning to get back to things, even if you haven't been officially cleared yet. Feels like it'll be really soon for you now.

    Went for a gorgeous long run this morning. This new 'Saturday morning long-run including parkrun' routine is my new favourite thing, I look forward to it more than anything else in my diary. Helped that I finished right outside the village bakery so bought myself a coffee and a little treat. Also had some extra treats mid-run because today was our local parkrun's 250th event so there was cake and jam tarts and chocolates for the finishers. If only someone would always be there halfway through a long run with cake...

    Anyway, I do have a stupid story to go along with this run that may amuse you all.

    When I was running to parkrun, I was conscious of the time to make sure I got there for the start, so had the screen on my watch set to show the clock time instead of my pace like it usually does. I then forgot this while I was running parkrun, which I had decided to try and run at goal HM pace (which is 9:05). Because parkrun starts at 9:00am, my brain thought that what I was seeing was my pace instead of the clock time! So basically, as I was running, all I thought I could see was my pace dropping bit by bit even though I was pushing harder and harder to try and get up to, what I thought was, HM pace. This started off working well, because I was obviously running way slower and thought "THIS IS SO EASY!" but by 9:20am I was pretty devastated, convinced that I couldn't run this hard and maintain it so I was never going to get a sub-2hr HM in 3 weeks - all because I was convinced that, even going all out, I was only running 9:20 pace :flushed: When I realised what I had done at 9:50 on the run home, I laughed so hard I had to stop at the side of the road to catch my breath :sweat_smile: MORON ALERT.

    @louubelle16 Too funny!! I've done something similar. I've programmed some Tempo Runs into my watch, and for some reason, it shows me AVERAGE pace on the main screen instead of my current pace. However, I didn't realize this. I'm at the part where I'm supposed to be picking up speed and the pace isn't changing much on my watch. So I try going faster, running my *kitten* off, and I'm thinking I lost my speed or something because the pace is not changing very much. It wasn't until I got home and saw my lap times to see that my watch was showing the average pace, not current pace, like I thought it was. Then, the same thing happened on my next tempo run when I finally remembered my watch shows average pace on the 1st screen. Switched screens and was happy to see I still had my speed. (I had at least a month between tempo runs due to some international travel for work.)

    Nominal Challenge Goal – 30 miles
    Real Goals: Continue recovery. Complete Race with Grace 10K on Thanksgiving without setting recovery back, even if I have to walk most of it.

    Today's notes – This morning's hallway jog while the eggs cooked turned up a novel sensation, tired legs. Not hurt legs, just the familiar tired from distance training. Thought about making today a rest day, went to church, felt pretty darn good when I got home, and went out with the intention of running 5 to 6 easy miles. Took a route that I didn't know the precise distance on, just because I felt like running that route. Kept the pace easy, and pretty steady. Averaged 8:10 per mile, with mile splits ranging from 8:07 to 8:15. No true hills on the route, which helped keep things easy. Look at the HR data afterward, and I see an average of 134 with 44% of the time in Zone 1. That sounds about right for running on a day that I seriously considered making a rest day.

    After spending what felt like forever just running whatever a hurt leg allowed, I was a bit surprised to notice I've run 35 miles this week. And I'm feeling maybe 85% to 95% healthy. Now I just have to be cautious enough to get the rest of the way healthy and figure out how to stay healthy.
