My heart and prayers go out to the people of Manchester and the rest of the country. I will never understand such hatred.

First – My thoughts and prayers to the folks in the UK over this recent bombing. There’s a lot of evil out there, in all forms. I am grateful for every peaceful day in our world.
DrKatiebug – I keep forgetting to congratulate you on all the NSV’s. What a wonderful feeling – so nice that other folks are noticing there is less of you. Happy Dance time!
Michele – I am so impressed that you are so dedicated to your workouts – WOW on the plank!
Joyce – your new kitten is one lucky furbaby to be joining your household. Hope he and Melody get acquainted quickly and compete for who is going to win the purring contest. Love the color and his coat looks very nice.
Machka – glad you are getting back up to speed after your surgery.
Sarah – thank you for checking in. Way to go on getting your garden planted! Tomorrow is supposed to be a cooler day in the Pacific Northwest so hoping to get going on ours in a big way.
I have a strange mouse story. I set a mousetrap in the garage the other day – we have a closet/pantry out there with big sliding doors. So I baited the trap with peanut butter and set it in the “run” where I normally catch them…I always close the doors on that pantry leaving it open just a hair to allow mouse entry but not cat. I went to check on it the other day… there’s peanut butter on the floor where the trap had been but no sign of the trap and/or mouse! DH and I both looked all over. We may smell something one of these days but so far, nothing.
Time to get ready for work.
Have a great day everyone!

NY Karen ~ What a blunder! Didn't mean to say I was glad you felt bad. Meant to say, "sad you felt bad."1
-
Carol I totally misread your other post anyway, no harm no foul, NYKAREN0
-
Sharon in Alberta: I am glad you are feeling happy. WTG!!!
NYKaren: I am so sorry you're still plagued by a rash. I wonder what is causing it. I hope your doctor gives you soothing lotion and cures it. (((HUGS)))
Heather: I'm so sorry to hear about the bombing in Manchester. Has anyone claimed the "credit" for it?
DH has a medical appointment with his MS doctor today & this is also the day the dog goes to the groomer. We're taking the dog in early so we can bring him home before we leave for the medical appointment. Since we'll be in the Beaverton/Hillsboro area for the doctor we're going to take the opportunity to go to Costco to stock our pantry with a few items that we've used up. Today is starting out gorgeous.

morning peeps-
another nice morning, so i rode in. my guess would have been 15 mi but i was off by .9mi, not bad. won't be able to ride home, gotta get home and pack, leaving for california to visit mom from wednesday to wednesday so today is my last day of work. i don't know how much exercising i will do, probably run outside in the morning. i will be in heaven, it's going to be in the 90's over there. :0)2 -
Good morning,
Awful events in Manchester. I worry about our world, but that’s what the terrorists want. Terror and worry. Even though I live in a rural area, it still affects all of us. Prayers for the families who lost their love ones in such a heinous act.
Paula, Leigh and Janet: Sorry Paula that I said you were quitting. I’m usually on my iphone and didn’t see you actually said QUILTING! Sorry!
Becca: Well if you move, you can always improvise with a sun lamp! With the popularity of drones you may have to stay indoors!! LOL
Pip: Enjoy your trip! The flight to California must be quite long. Do you walk about on the plane? (no pun intended!)
Lanette: Your flowers are so pretty; I especially love blue flowers!
Leigh: I do have some resistance bands. I also have the exercise peddler which I use. My daughter who is a yoga instructor even asked me recently if I would like to do lessons using FaceTime. She does that for people who travel too so they don’t miss their private lessons. It’s just taking much longer than I expected after my back surgery. One day at a time!
I better get going… I need to cut off the tags of the new luggage and layout clothes I want to take on my trip to Cheyenne. It’s been chilly up north, so I’ll have to take some warm clothes too. I going to get a Pedi today too.
I was worried about flying after I had the DVT behind my knee so I called the doctor and his nurse called back to let me know since it’s been 2 months and I’m on medication I’ll be ok. That compression stocking is so tight, I don’t know if I can wear it the whole day. I was imagining in the aircraft's restroom trying to take it off! It was more like a nightmare! Maybe I should wear a long skirt? Yesterday, after 7 hours,it was really binding behind my knee and left a deep red crease! It hurt for quite a while after taking it off.
I better get busy!

Hello ladies -
I've enjoyed the pictures of kitty, flowers, rocks and all. Chuckling along about the mis-reads. I, too, had to skim back through to see the news from Paula. Whewww! What a difference 1 little letter makes!
UK ladies, you and your countrymen are on my heart today.
Pip - enjoy your time in CA.
Dana - I've done vein treatment and used those D%#@ stockings. They can be so uncomfortable. I had to laugh a bit at the thought of you having to remove them in the airplane bath room. ((sorry)) When do you leave for WY?
Has anyone heard from Marni?? I miss her.
I've been continuing to sort, pitch, and organize but at a little bit slower rate. I recently realized that the day I learned of hubby's gambling addiction was the same day date in April that I learned of first hubby's affair. April 25. Why I remembered that from 1979 is beyond me. Weird, huh?
Off to the movie soon with DS, DDIL, and DGS. Doing a happy dance!

Cheri, I'm just totally blown away with your stats. Way to go.

Hi ladies,
Even though we are well into May, I just found this discussion and I'd like to join in!
I am trying to set some realistic goals because so far I haven't done so well with that.
1. Stop eating when I feel like I have had enough, rather than continue to eat just to finish the rest.
2. Go for a walk everyday. Not for any particular duration - just do it!
3. Check my weight on Wednesday and log it in MFP.
4. Before or after my walk, read some MFP community posts for motivation and support.
Good luck to everyone with your May goals.
Sara

LOL! Giggling away as I read, search and re-read, the quitting/quilting posts. Seriously left me in stitches! LOL!
Cheri- Wowsa! Great work!
Pip- Great stats from you, also. Did you just add the plyometrics? Just noticed those! Very nice! Safe trip to see your mom!
Kate UK- I remembered you had said you were from Liverpool; knew they were close. How kind of those cabbies to head to Manchester to bring the people from your town back home.
DJ- Luck at the docs! I hate having blood drawn.
Lanette- Your missing mouse/mousetrap reminds me of something out of a Tom and Jerry cartoon! Mousie is probably using the trap to hang his laundry on, back at the mousehole. You know, with all of the other little mousies...4 -
Dana - I have used the site below, Dumbbell Strength Training for Seniors, with good success. You can add reps, sets and weight as you feel comfortable I alternate it with the treadmill and stationary bike.

Thx katla, I did. It was an expierment that I did for 30 days straight and yesterday was the last day. The idea was that u would find yourself running faster without trying to, and I have, so I may keep it up. Part of it was burpees with a jump up on the end and I HATE burpees1

You're welcome. I also use the kettlebell occasionally, mostly when doing squats. If some of the exercises are too strenuous for you, just don't do them. I do squats with no problem, but I've had both knees replaced and lunges hurt my knees. I also bought a cheap little thing from Amazon called Wonder Core and I use it to do crunches. I don't know if that would work if you have back problems. The thing with any exercise routine is to find what works for you and what can stick with. Good luck.

Happy Lucky Penny Day!
I have a friend who posts "Woohoo! Found a penny!" to his Facebook status whenever he picks one up.
Toni - Apparently we need more frogs! Not sure there are enough frogs in the state to deal with the Texas mosquito population, though.
DrKatie - Ouch, I'm sure you could have thought of something more enjoyable to do for $206!
Rori - I hope you all had a great time at the Tom Petty concert. We saw him a couple of weeks ago, and it was a great show.
Lanette - Your flowers are gorgeous! I've never had much luck with azaleas, but yours look very happy.
I finally managed to kick myself onto the ski machine yesterday. I'm trying hard to break the exercise drought! Thankfully the weather has been cooler for the last few days, so it wasn't quite such hard going. My VCR broke, so now I need to find one so I can use some of my old exercise videos now and then for a change of pace.
They're doing some kind of work outside today - a gas line or something. It's making my work day noisier than usual.
May your day be lucky!

I think it is a matter of just starting something. I tried another weight training program yesterday.. first time in many months doing anthing with weights. I used a DB, weight machine and a kettlebell. It must of been too light on the lbs. I am not sore at all today. I know its important to increase reps, sets or weight as you go. I think your right, find out what works for you and stick with it! Never heard of Wonder Core. Does it do wonders?
* I looked on Amazon .. Wonder Core has some good ratings!1 -

THe Wonder Core for sure makes my abs sore lol and I think my stomach is the flatest it's been in years. You can use it for other exercise but I only use it for crunches.

I having been thinking about all my friends here from UK. How can some one/group do that??? I don't think I will ever understand it. I agree that we should just go on with our every day life and not let them win but still you hear reports like this of kids just wanting to have fun, albeit very expensive fun, and something like this happens. On a side note, my husband didn't know anything about it and he watches his precious Fox news.
This precious little kitten was a stray and is thin. I can't wait to see what some good loving and food will help him look like. I think I have everything I need. Got pretty much at Big Lots today except a collar. I still need to look for an extra small one.
Lanette, love that ground cover. I would come over and take some off your hands!!!!!

Lanette Weird mouse story, hope you find it lol!
I have planted corn but am very worried about raccoons and my search on how to keep them out says 3 main things: electric fence, shoot them with a gun, use a radio for a short time as they get used to it. Now I wish I didn't plant corn. Anyone have any ideas? I will go with the radio but I think an electric fence will be expensive and I am not good at doing that kind of a project myself. I can't shoot something and they mostly come in the middle of the night anyway. I'm feeling bummed because we did all that planting and I had forgotten why we don't plant corn. Last time just as the corn was almost ready, some coons destroyed every last one And they could just cross the street and go into a huge cornfield and leave my small plot alone.
That being said, I am not feeling quite myself yet. May was one of the worst months I have had in years and it is still not over. And sadly, it is my favorite month. With the flooding, the constant flood scares, my health has been very poor, my daughter had surgery, my husband was away for 3 weeks right during the flooding, I am working 4 different jobs at the moment as I await some projects to end and transition to my new job; I really thought I was going to completely shut down. Now DH is back, I will complete a big project in 2 weeks and just maybe I can find myself.
The good thing is that throughout all this I ate mostly well and exercised almost daily. Those things I can control. And I have been saying "no" to a lot of things and that has been hard but good for me. I am in a workaholic's paradise now and I must resist. I get to work at 0715 and don't take any health breaks until I get home. The good thing is that I am leaving now between 3:30 - 4:30 which is a huge improvement. I am paid for 7.5 hours per day so I can leave at 3:15 but I feel guilty. There is always so much to do.
And now the whining is done and it felt good to get this out. Thank you for listening.
Sorry for the long post.
I wish everyone strengths in their journey!

Hello ladies: Saw the doctor this morning and am getting off two meds. One was for an arrhythmia. Haven't had problems for a long time so she said try without it. The other was for sleep because one of the side effects of prednisone is sleeplessness. I have been off the prednisone for over a year now but the sleep medicine is addictive and I was unable to get off it. She has given me a different med for sleep that is not addictive and I should be able to sleep but go off in a few weeks with no rebound insomnia. She also froze some plantar warts on my right foot and it is really sore, not getting in many steps today.
Leigh - So glad you were able to participate fully in your vacation. That is so satisfying.
Rori and Sue - Lovely pic. Isn't it grand to meet in person?
Lisa - Good luck with the real estate deals!
NYKaren - Have you changed any lotions or anything like that? I had a rash on elbows and knees one time that turned out to be an allergy to a new kind of fly spray I was using on my horse.
Pip - Have a wonderful trip to California and I am with you, I hate burpees too.
Joyce - Darling kitten. We would like to get a second barn cat and think a kitten would work best with the one we already have but most rescues will not adopt kittens to be outdoor cats.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA4 -
Thanks for all the support ladies! Here is my step "secret": since my hobbies are sedentary by nature I set a timer on my phone for 45 minutes. When it goes off I must get up and do something that includes movement. If I don't have a chore that needs done then I will set my phone alarm for 15 minutes and with my laptop on the kitchen bar will step and use the computer. It truly has upped my step count! I have other tricks such as I cannot log onto the computer until I have reached a certain number of steps. I try for 5000 before noon. Another 5000 by 5 pm and follow up the rest throughout making dinner and after dinner time.
