Hey ladies,
Just having a quiet week here. My neighbor asked me yesterday for some help with her vacuum... So I spent a good 45 minutes trying to connect this metal contraption together! She is always telling me it was $1000 machine, and yesterday I was telling her she just needs a vacuum that is simpler to operate. Vacuuming shouldn't be a stressful thing! Plus she stated to me its only 10 years old, and I was laughing and telling her that the under carriage has a wooden brush rod! Anything wooden in a vacuum its got to be old!!! I organized her pills while I was there. She was asking me which ones were for her knees, and there were some for her neck pain too. I said just don't get them mixed up and take the knee ones for her neck and vise versa!!! We laughed about that one!!! I worry about who will take care of her if we move to Washington state. I rec'd the info packet from The Aging and Disability Resource Office. There is a local office right here in Warrenton, so if she needs daily help at some point, it will be easy to access it. I suppose when I feel its the right time I will have a talk about that with her. She volunteers at the Historical Society in Astoria, so she goes get out and about. She can shop for herself, and I need to concentrate on what she is able to do, not worry so much.
Today was a food bank day, and I rec'd a package of 6 chuck steaks, so they're individual's strapped and 4 are in the freezer. I have two steaks that I will fix for dinner, along with an ear of corn, and a potato to bake. I am having a large salad with a packet of cranberries and pumpkin seeds. The packet comes with some creamy poppyseed dressing. I think I will also put some walnuts on my salad. The salad and a slice of some great italian bread, and I will be happy. For lunch today dear husband made me a braut sausage, and even toasted the hotdog bun! I am a lucky girl!
Well everyone hugs!

Jake watched the final episode of DWTS with me today. We were happy with the results. The other thing we did this afternoon is go to the rock and stone shop to look at stones to put in our front yard to cover the old shabby stuff that is there. He has become much more a participant in our home and life since he began taking the steps suggested by his spiritual advisers. He is starting to see his own part is whatever he thought was wrong about our marriage and I am doing the same.
Stats for today:
17,000 steps
198 minutes walking Sasha and Bess
74 minutes riding the exercise bike
line dance class

Hello every one , I'm new and lost 15lbs using the diary now if I could just move. Walking maybe but I'm so over weight and need to loose at least 100 more . One day at a time , I may actually join this now that I got the hang of using one of these . Ann from Tennessee 54. Sorry in advance if I'm posting on wrong tread not really tech savvy here7

Welcome Ann keep checking in with us alongside of your logging food. I found just getting up and moving a little bit every hour helped me to be less sedentary. Little and consistent.

Heather: I sense a bit of worry about neighbors who offered for your house before you decided to stay put rather than sell. You have nothing to be sorry about. I am happy for both of you because you've made a good choice.
Dana: Happy 62 days in a row and happy 15.0 lbs. I've lost quite a bit of weight, but you are speedy by comparison. WTG!!!
Beth: The cupcake tower is spectacular. I hope the bride and groom have an inkling of the amount of effort that cake took, and worship at your feet for the next 20 or 30 years. They owe you BIG time.
Becca: You are a blessing to your neighbor & she is lucky you are her friend. (((HUGS)))
Barbie: It sounds like life is a bit better. I'm happy to hear about the positive steps you are both taking to strengthen your marriage.
Mrs.Keiper63: Welcome to a great group of supportive women. Stop by often and get to know people. :flowerforyou:
This will be Memorial Day weekend. Our tradition has been to visit the cemetery at Christmas and Memorial Day. The weather was unsafe at Christmas time, and we're planning to go and pay our respects tomorrow rather than on the weekend. Hopefully the traffic will be reasonable. It will be a long drive on Highway 30 & then I-5. I'm going to set the trip meter and find out just how far it is. We are not looking forward to I-5. :noway:

DrKatiebug – sorry to hear about the mammogram. Been there too, and I remember the worry for a couple weeks. Praying it all turns out fine – and you’ll have it done and over with for another year or two.
Becca – your feisty neighbor will miss you lots if you move – you are a sweetie for checking into local resources for her. Is she the one that talks worse than a sailor? Sounds like you got a lot of yummy stuff at the food bank. I love hearing about your creative salads!
Barbie – glad Jake is coming around and bet it was fun looking at the rocks and stones and planning! DH and I worked our tails off just about all day weeding, planting tomatoes and onions, setting pavers around. We hadn’t done that in a long time (worked together without sniping at each other) and were able to make some good decisions about what we want to do here too. Nice cool day to be outside!
Kelly – that story about Sullivan swallowing a penny was cute… how the other boys are excited about it! Of course! Hope you have good weather to get your outside work done.
Heather – what you said about having a cleaner for marital harmony – I can totally relate. Takes the pressure off both of us to try to keep up with the house when we don’t feel like it – and we like it relatively clean. Glad you found a service with good workers.
Dana – way to go on the 15 lb loss!!! You have been a good girl and it shows! Good luck on your trip and hope the reunion with your DD goes well.
PaulaY – what a sad time in your community. They sounded like nice young men and their sons were too I’m sure. Hope there’s some good news about the folks in the truck accident- glad the kids were buckled up. Please keep us posted. (((HUGS))))
Lisa – sorry the warehouse deal fell through --- it will be interesting to see if the HUD house becomes yours! As you said, nothing ventured-nothing gained.
Penny – those cake photos were fantastic. I too can’t see eating one – they are works of art.
Katla – I agree, avoid I-5 on Memorial Day weekend. Our cleaner is coming on Monday Morning, so I’ll need to scram until about 11:30. DH will keep busy in his shop and can take a nap with the cat as he has a recliner and beer fridge out there, lol. I may go work in one of the Master Gardener Demo Gardens – can pull a few weeds and answer questions for a couple hours – I’ll be on I-5 for about ten miles and hope it doesn’t take me an hour.
That’s it for now ladies! Fargo is on--and blood is spilling.

Lanette. Yep she swears like a sailor! When I called the resource place, she told me there isn't much I can do, sadly something has to happen for them to intervene. What they do however is provide information, and it is all done to keep their dignity, and treat them with the up most respect. Presently, she can drive from point A to B. She can watch TV because she has the head phones that enhance the sound. She does take her meds fairly well. She has her dog Annabelle, and if they were ever separated then they would be heartbroken. I will just sit on this information, pay close attention, and if I see her floundering, then I will have a heart to heart with her.
What she needs is someone to come into her apartment and simplify things, get rid of all her mechanical devices that she can't see to operate. Oh and I told her to stop using that scary Ninja cutting bullet device! I said that I don't want to read her obituary saying "death by Ninja blender"!!!
I hope when I get scary old, I have a neighbor keeping tabs on me. Husband said he would visit me in a care facility, when I get senile. I said I will be visiting HIM, when he gets senile! We sometimes go back and forth like that. A definite dark humor conversation, but whatcha gonna do, be all serious? After all he's been through, you gotta grin thru the grim! I need to needlepoint that!
Hugs ladies

Morning ladies
Went to optician yesterday and she says the clinic should have done both eyes, don't know if fault is with her or clinic. She said if I am managing ok without glasses then it is up to me, to stay as I am or get it done but it would have to be done eventually. I have decided to get it done now even though it will mean having reading glasses. Nothing is ever simple((sigh))
Off to gym will check in later

Figured with all the talk of wedding cakes, I'd post mine. This is the one and only wedding cake I ever made, and would probably never do it again. My eighth anniversary is coming up next month--and the memories of the stress I was under have largely faded, but after my own experience, I would never suggest that a bride make her own... simply adds to the stress. Baked the layers weeks ahead of time and froze them, frosted them the day before and then assembled the whole thing at the venue.
The cake is buttercream frosting (obviously, looking at the pic! ) over white cake. We were both poor as little church mice, so the total cost maybe $50--mostly for the pans and the cake topper! The columns were PVC, wrapped in a floral adhesive paper, and the flowers are all silk - we pulled them off before serving the cake. I painted the bride's dress to match my gown. The flowers matched my bridesmaid's colors - had them all dressed in spring colors.

KatiaHope your drive is smooth for you today.
Becca You are an interesting writer. Look how many of us like hearing about your food bank stories. And how kind you are with your neighbour!
Machka great news on your results! What a relief.
Welcome MrsKeiper
So today is a big event for me at work, it is our 25th Anniversary of service. We are keeping it low key and mindful. A couple of prominent speakers one being a victim of sexual assault and domestic violence (I manage a medical forensic program dealing with these issues). Her story is so powerful and she will provide hope to others still suffering. Then we are planting a tree in honor of the people we have served and those who are still suffering. We have someone performing a special song and then refreshments. We purchased saplings so our guests can take one home as a keepsake. I have to speak of course but I am more nervous about the big black fly bite on my leg as I am wearing a dress.
Will exercise after work and eat right! Sarah, Ontario

Morning, ladies!
Great day yesterday--exhausting, but productive, informative meetings (not always words that go together) and hopefully some very good outcomes.
And, when I got home, there was a company truck in front of the warehouse. Two very nice guys out of Houston, looking for property in the area. They've rented a small office here and are outgrowing it fast--and I know the company, having been in that field for a few years some while back. Walked them through, and they were very pleased with the space we have for sale--and I put the fear of competition in them by telling them I'd had a call on the way back from Odessa that we have another walk-through coming up today by another company outgrowing their space here in Fort Stockton. Absolutely true--which means I have to keep the place spit-spot-clean again today, not that hard. The guys in the company truck have our realtor's contact info, already walked through, and s'posed to be back in Houston this morning to get a decision.
Personally, I'm hoping for a bidding war. But not holding my breath until it happens!
Real estate roller coaster ride... will be glad when this one comes to a stop! Heather, I completely understand your need to get it all to stop. I literally talked to Corey just yesterday about just taking the warehouse off the market. It's... chaotic.
Katiebug - hope the mammogram results are great. To your question, yep, it would be utterly unethical for the listing realtor to let anyone else know how much they'd have to put in to beat our bid on the Big Giant House.
Kinda love this town, but giving advantage to family and friends trumps ethics here EVERY TIME. Small town, tight families, and cultural differences. We are, no matter how long we live here, outsiders. We didn't grow up here, we only have about a ten-year history here (with a three-year gap while we lived in Oregon), and no family. This town is now 70 percent Hispanic, so my husband and I are very much a minority. I hasten to add, the ethnic difference has nothing to do with this particular instance, just another part of our difference from the whole. *Ahem.* Let's just say I was dismayed when I found out who the listing agent was and leave it at that. I know her.
Barbie - I'm so happy Jake is waking up to what he has and what he could lose. You are an amazing person.
Allie - You are (still) stronger than you know. Keep your chin up...
Off to the races--found new determination in my sweaty little polyester-clad self yesterday to get some of this adipose tissue off my gluteus maximus. I felt fat and galumpy all day yesterday in my professional garb. Time to change that... and the only one who can do it is me.
Love y'all,

Lisa - What a lovely, creative cake!
My arm continues to improve. Today I did my first downward dog in a month. I slightly favoured the arm and couldn't have managed an upward facing dog, but it makes me very happy to feel I can do most things now.
I am doing 2 kg dumbells to work my way up. I used to use 9 kg ones, so there's a way to go yet.
This morning we changed the winter duvet for a summer one. We are expecting a mini heatwave in the next few days. 80° - 90°. I used to dread the heat when I was fat, but it's easier now, though I am still a temperate kind of girl. Don't really like exposing flesh etc. Or my feet. I didn't wear socks in bed last night for the first time in this year. :noway: I wear socks all year. If Heather is not wearing socks it is an OFFICIAL heatwave.
DH and I talked about work we want done in the garden. The front garden has raised vegetable beds and they have rotted. I have fallen out of love with most gardening jobs, so we are going to have most of them removed and it grassed over. I am keeping a herb and arugula bed and the gooseberry and blackcurrant bushes. Plus the rhubarb. In fact, we are going to plant another one each of those as they require very little attention and the yield is amazing! We freeze loads.
We also want the old, rotten shed removed and a new one erected.
In order to save a bit of money for the garden work we have decided to paint the hallway ourselves. Just the emulsion. When we get someone next year to do the stairwell and landing they can also do the woodwork downstairs, but it is liveable with for now. I want a warmer, more welcoming, colour on the walls. Hate choosing colours.
We're going out this afternoon to choose a plant for our new pot! I have no idea what to choose. When we thought we were moving I threw away all my old seeds, so I have no salad or herb seeds. I will buy those as well. I would love to find a French tarragon plant, but they are like gold dust.
Nice to have a few projects. We have a long weekend too. Hate bank holidays. Grrrrrrrrrr. When you are retired they are just a major inconvenience with too many people clogging up your favourite haunts. My son's family are off to Portugal for their annual holiday with my DDIL 's parents. Jealous? Moi? :noway: I must admit that I have allowed thoughts of their plane going down with the whole family on board to cross my mind. In the sense of, 'How would I carry on living?' DH says I am stupid to even think about it. He's right.
Love to all, and welcome to the new people. Heather in the warm UK xxxxxxx5 -

Paula: So sorry to hear of the sad events happening around you!
Dana: Congratulations on your loss. You are doing great!
Ann: Welcome to the group. It is a great place to find support and motivation! I started walking recently and am definitely seeing a big improving in my mobility. A little at a time is a great way to go!
Lisa: Hope one of the new potential buyers will prove to be the right one!
Machka: Congratulations on the good results!
Becca: What lovely flowers!
I have had a case of the IT blues lately. We switched internet providers this week and it most definitely was not straight forward. I had careful timed the termination of our old service to give two days' overlap with the new one in case of problems. It is good I did. The technician for the new service arrived and said their fiber optical cables use a different system, so we needed a hole in our stone floor to run a cable. He wouldn't do it because of insurance complications, but proposed someone who would drill the hole for 60 euros. My husband decided to save the money and got a friend in to help. I really had to bite my tongue when they drilled the hole too close to the wall on the main floor and it ended up in the basement wall, which meant they had to drill a second hole. I was so glad it was him and not me! The technician came back and hooked up the cable and the router/television decoder box. Once installed, the box started to update and the technician said it was up to the customer to complete the installation. Four hours and three updates later, the box was stuck. After a long time with customer service, I was finally told to leave it overnight. Next day, the box was still hung up. After another long chat with customer service and some long distance manipulations of our system, we finally got internet, but no television. TV finally clicked in a day and a lot of frustration later. Information technology, we can't live without it, but it can make me want to pull my hair out!

Good morning from Pam in North Texas! Do you have room for one more?5

Good morning all! Can't think. Woke up with a headache. There is some rain moving in, oddly enough from the east!? Unusual here as most weather comes in from the west across the lake. I wonder if this is the reason for the headache?
Love the cake pictures and the new things going on in everyone's lives! My plan today is to shake this headache, get the kids outside as soon as the rain moves through, and get their energy and naughties out! ttfn hope to talk later KJ (Kelly)2 -
Welcome Pam and other new girls! Bookmark the site, look for Barbie's post at the last day of the month for the link to move us into June. Settle in and tell us about yourself!2

Good morning!
Today is my travel day to Cheyenne, Wyoming to see my DD#1 and her family.
I just told Dolly (our dog) to be good and not make a mess while I'm gone. I hope she understands! LOL!
I attached a picture of our wedding cake.
I bought it at the bakery at HEB for about $50 (2003) the wedding cake was a white cake with raspberry filling, plus I had a chocolate grooms cake. They were delicious!!
We got married at a restaurant's back room by a Methodist minister who was married to a woman I worked with.
Bob is Baptist, me a Lutheran, and we just wanted to get married. He told me he wouldn't move in to my apartment unless we got married. His mom was a strict Baptist and she wouldn't like it. She was about 88 back then. Of course we didn't tell her we spent every weekend together!
Well I got to finish up packing. Enjoy your day!
