Less Alcohol - March 2018- One day at a Time

My son treated me to dinner out last night and I had one glass of wine. Sipped and enjoyed slowly. In the past it would have been 2 easy. So patting myself on the back. I enjoyed that 1 more than I would have the 2. And, I stuck with the low cal salmon and broccoli which I count as a victory with all the ravioli, etc, surrounding me. I decided the conversation was the best part of the meal in that it's what made me most happy; time with someone I love. I realize now that the effect of the 2nd glass would have got in the way of me being there, being present to him and my grandson. Happy Thursday!8

Was with four girlfriends last night at one of their houses. Brought my tea and a diet gingerale. They laughed at me (in a fun, not a mean way) about my "rules" for drinking (nothing Mon-Thurs), but I had a great time and didn't feel tempted - at least not too much. I once again felt SO good about driving one of my pretty drunk friends home at the end of the night and knowing I was completely sober. And I woke up without a hangover. Yay! It's just feeling easier and easier to maintain this lifestyle. I guess all those new behaviors become habits at some point if we just hang in.
I agree with @erikNJ that the excitement has worn off, and not sure what to think about that. I guess I don't need to be thrilled to live this way, I just need to do it. Kind of like brushing your teeth every day. Not exciting, but worthwhile and must be done for health and happiness.
I still enjoy wine, but -- I hope -- never to excess again. I had three glasses last weekend and was good. I could've even passed on those. I do still need to get a grip on the sweets, LOL. But I've now lost 81 pounds and continue to head in the right direction, so I'm pretty content. Not using up my daily calories on alcohol has been a real game changer for me.12 -

Awesome attitude! Just because you back slide is no reason to quit. Pick up where you left off. We have all been in your shoes.

That is such a great weight loss. I can related to you since I shed 90 pounds and want to keep it off. Cutting down and not giving into that next drink is as difficult as not having that next serving of food. Great success!

Ok snowed in with 12 inches of white stuff. Can't get out of drive way but I do have this thread to rely today.
Found a new very low calorie beer (85 calories) that I am going to make my definite go to when I am having alcohol. Especially after I kept reading the amount of calories I used to drink with a chocolate martini.
400 calories verses 85 calories..... no brainer.

My wife and I went to a birthday celebration for a friend and the first thing she asked me is "What beer are you drinking tonight?" She then asked me what beer she should order. Everyone at the table had a drink and it was a bit odd for me to be drinking water, but I stuck to my guns.
Later in the evening, another friend asked me to pick out a beer for him. I am known for being a bit of a beer snob, but I didn't realize how closely I am identified with my affinity for craft beers. It was an eye-opener and not in a good way.
Eh, based on this story I look at that more as people respect your taste in craft beer as opposed to you being known as a drunk.
Thanks. I'm working on balance - focusing more on quality than quantity at this point in my life.7 -

81 and 90 pounds that is so awesome!
If only I can focus long enough to get these stupid 20 lbs off!4 -
I drink. I usually drink a glass of wine a night, but 2-3 on weekend nights. I've no motivation for exercise when I drink even a glass of wine and I'm just a little worried about overall health. I have decided to be alcohol free M-Th and work out on those days. Started this week, so finding this thread is right on time. Wish me luck that I can keep going!10

Whoa! 400 calories! You could eat cake instead for that that was like when I was in college and would get Frappuccino’s until I found out the calories were crazy high! The calories in wine are definitely a motivator for me to not drink during the week. It’s not worth it!3 -

Awesome. Thanks for your encouraging words. I just came from yoga and weight machines. Pushed myself and feeling so pleased!5 -

Thanks. Nope back on track. Amazing when I'm not drinking how much more motivated I am and on track. And of course eating and sleeping better!

Awesome. I've started this journey and I'm not planning on going AF completely. But I'm amazed how this group has helped me be more mindful and I've still cut back significantly. Def a big help. This is such a great support group.

Same for me tomorrow night I too gave up alcohol for Lent; tomorrow is our friends birthday party. I mentioned it to my friends before I began, so it should go okay. I already having people ask if I could be DD for them I told them absolutely !!! Good luck with your continued success. PS my go to drink has been sparkling water with lime it's been a nice change.5 -
Thanks to everyone for the kind words. You are all so awesome and do keep me on track4

We got snowed in last night as well, and lost power for about 7 hours. Man a beer to calm my nerves was calling me. But I restrained.
I’m not sure which beer you have found, but the beer salesman in me has to let you know about Corona Premier. 90 calories, 2.6 carbs and still 4% abv.
Haha, sorry, couldn’t help but push my products5
