quilteryoyo wrote: »I did my run/walk for the scheduled 20 minutes today...well, actually 20:12. I managed to do 1.55 miles, so a 13 min/mile pace. I'm happy with that. With warm up and cool down walks, had a total of 2 miles. I am thinking about signing up for the Pioneer 5 mile race at Davy Crockett's birthplace in December. Hopefully, I can get down to 12 min miles by then. I know this is extremely slow for most of you, but I have never been a runner, so 12 min miles is a pretty lofty goal for me right now.
You should do it! Even if you don't get down to 12 minute miles by then , do it anyway.3 -

I haven't been keeping up here while we were on our road trip to Oregon. Can't believe there are over 500 posts! You all have been busy chatting and I am not going to be able to catch up. Congrats to all who raced, to @MobyCarp for your Boston entry and anyone who has been out there running and running.
I did get some running in while we were gone but not nearly what I had planned. We had a few stops that were in/near the fire areas and the air was way too smoky to get out and run. Running in Oregon was gloriously cool and beautiful. This trip was definitely too much time in the car between stops and not nearly enough time in any one place.

A little breezy this morning, but no rain yet. Did 4 miles then mowed the lawn since I don’t know when I’ll be able to mow again. It was already pretty long.
We are under a tropical storm warning... it’s supposed to get windy and rain tomorrow morning. Thankfully we are not in a flood prone area - I think people are most worried about the storm surge and tidal flooding which can get really bad around here.

Ok - I said I wasn't going to try to catch up and now I have spent at least a few hours just reading... lol I have to know what you all have been doing/discussing here!
@Elise4270 - are the Oxygen glasses prescription? like @RunsOnEspresso I run blind. I can see distances very well, just struggle to read messages on my phone and sometimes have to stop to see/squint at my miles on my watch. I have Smith Optics running glasses that I love. I had to try on many pairs to find ones that fit but I got them on sale at REI. I would love to have ones with my prescription though, maybe... I think it would take getting used to now though.
Also the NUUN swag looks great except I am not much of a NUUN or Honey Stinger fan... wonder if they would care?
@ContraryMaryMary - I voted for you today too! You are still way in the lead!
@RunnerGrl1982 - do you run along the beach? If I were In Santa Monica that is where I would want to run every day!
@sarahthes and @juliet3455 - I can't believe you are getting so much early snow! Wow! It really changed drastically from hot to cold for you!
@pudgy1977 - have you thought about doing one of the Couch to 5k (C25K) programs/apps? You might find it fun and motivating.
What did you wanna be when you grew up? All the way through college I wanted to be a veterinarian but did not think it was possible given my family and financial situation. I completed my degree in Math but also got minors in Biology and Chemistry. My husband encouraged me to apply to Vet school but the counselor at the time basically said I was too old and didn't have enough 'animal' experience even though I had worked with animals at a zoo for 3 years. The 'kids' applying had 10-15 years of experience.
Why did I start running? My personal trainer told me I needed to 'up my game' and get more cardio. He encouraged me to run just a block when I was walking... That was 6 years ago - he unleashed a trapped crazy runner apparently! 😝
Why do I run now? Oh so many reasons... Stress reduction, weight management, getting to be outside, it makes me feel so amazing, getting to be a part of an amazing community of other crazy runners!5 -

eek
i had to replace my vivosmart. just bought the vivoactive 3(no music)
i hated spending that much money on something but hopefully it will last longer than the smarts, if not, i'll buy the next incarnation of vivosport when the time comes around. or maybe i'll give a forerunner a try.
i did get free 2 day shipping
but eek. that was a lot of money6 -
@juliet3455 Wow! That will be an interesting race if the conditions stay like they are now. Good luck with that!
@pudgy1977 You can do this! I hope you got out and ran when you got home!
@zdyb23456 Hope the storm doesn't hit you too hard. Stay safe!Ok - I said I wasn't going to try to catch up and now I have spent at least a few hours just reading... lol I have to know what you all have been doing/discussing here!

You guys kick *kitten*. Just saying.
Pushed a little more today. So a little further but not much. I really want to get a mile in on Saturday without walking
Sept - 12 .54
Sept - 13 .65
Total= 1.19
Goal for September 17 miles.5 -
@Elise4270 I don't wear sunglasses because it tends to be dark during the majority of my runs. If I had to get a pair though (and I might yet), then Popticals' Popstar glasses look interesting. Not exactly cheap, but compared to other named brands, not entirely outrageous either.
@ContraryMaryMary Another vote added.
@AlphaHowls I meant to reply last month but straight up forgot: re Strava, you don't need a phone...either connect your fitness app to your Strava account online directly and when your watch uploads your activities, it'll automatically push to Strava as well. If connecting is not possible then download your runs from your computer and upload them manually using one of the following common formats: GPX, TCX, FIT.
@MobyCarp Congrats on your acceptance!amymoreorless wrote: »
As mentioned by both @amymoreorless and @kgirlhart, the heat and humidity has returned...I think my feelings can be adequately summed up with the word "Grrrr". Today my legs were feeling a little more like they didn't want to participate, so given that on Saturday I'll be pacing my friend at a half marathon, I'll give tomorrow's run a pass. That means that for various reasons (on-call support, Dr's appointment) I haven't managed to get a Friday long run in yet this month. Next Friday should be fun then.

Do not remember if I posted this yet... this is from one of the parks I run at.
This will give you an idea how bad the flooding was here last weekend. The top picture is a day after the rain stopped. The two under it are the same location on the third day after the rain stopped. The water is still receding and probably was a good 15 feet deep in places on the trail and walkways.
Hopefully, it will keep receding before the remains of Florance reach us and push it all back up again!3 -
@pudgy1977 I know you want to run a mile without stopping to walk. Just wanted to let you know that I have decided to train the Jeff Galloway way, which incorporates planned walks into every running session. It's supposed to help cut down on injuries and fatigue without slowing you down very much, if at all. Something you might want to consider.2
