So cold here today. Proud of myself that I went out for a run, well bundled up, but it was so icy on the paths it was just not worth the risk so only 1.5 miles, Brings the total to 21.5 miles.13

Those who have used the running pants, how do you find them? I see they mostly have draw strings and I HATE them usually cause I find they fit too loose around the waist unless I use the drawstring, and then they cut in cause I need to do them fairly firmly to get them to stay up. How do you find that aspect of things?
I ordered a pair of these and will report back on the drawstring situation. I'm hoping that like @_nikkiwolf_ mentioned the wide waistband makes the drawstring unnecessary. I do love me a wide waistband.
I have the shorts version of those tights and really like them. The drawstring isn't noticeable to me (it's made of a stretchy fabric so feels like the rest of the shorts) and I don't think I've ever even adjusted it. But on me the shorts are tight enough that a drawstring isn't necessary. The zipper pocket on the back, though, is just plain awesome.
But speaking of their shorts, what I didn't like are the combo ones with a loose layer over tights. You really have to watch where the seams are if you're going to be doing any long runs, lesson learned.3 -
Jan 2 (3.1mi run) (4.1mi walk)
Jan 6 (3.8mi run) (1.2mi walk)
Jan 7 (1mi run) (.5mi walk)
Jan 8 (3.1mi run) (.5mi walk)
Jan 10 (3.1mi run)
Jan 12 (3.1mi run)
Jan 16 (3.1mi run)
Jan 18 (3.1mi run)
Jan 23 (4.1mi run)
(27.5mi/30mi) (6.3mi walk)
I did 4 miles, pace at just under 11 minutes a mile, averaged. Feeling pretty good about that and really I wanted to keep going, but I needed to get home and start dinner and was starting a blister on my left foot too. It felt pretty easy, heart rate didn’t go over 160 even on hills. Having to take so many days off due to weather and scheduling seems to have given me an extra bit of motivation now that I finally had a chance to get back out.11 -

Yesterday's events were just not in my favor to get a run in, so I called it a rest day. Today I made it to the gym with plenty of time to get a run in before circuit training. Actually more time than I really wanted, especially as I forgot my headphones so it was a boring run - except for the part where another runner I know was next to me to chat for a bit.
I had to buy a new furnace today (and as a bonus, a new AC too, while i'm at it) . It gets installed on Monday and I am keeping my fingers crossed that my old furnace hangs in there until then, but it's struggling. I'm feeling pretty depressed and stressed about the financials of it but what are you going to do?14 -
Grocery shopping in tights. I sure wouldn't have done this before I became a runner.

Haha! @7lenny7 ! Dh Shops in his after a run. There was a guy at work that biked I guess. He liked to shop in bike shorts and moccasins. Which only makes sense to a fellow athlete.
@amymoreorless college station isn’t tooo far for us. Dh is up for it. I’ll have to see where I am on it.5 -

Speed work was on the schedule for tonight. I was assigned 100m x 4 at 9:50 (enter in Garmin as 9:45-9:55). As I was doing it I thought I only hit goal pace 1 of 4 but I ended up hitting 2 of 4 so twice as good as I thought! I ended up with 10:02 / 9:55 / 10:16 / 9:42 Not bad, not bad at all.10 -
My mini-me illustrating pretty much what I’ve been doing all week (my waistline is starting to resemble hers too as a consequence!).
Last night I attempted some running - I’m here alone with the children so, once they were asleep, I did some speed repeats - 12x250 then a 900m cool down. Pushed it a bit hard and my calf is telling me about it today. Longer and slower would have been better but I couldn’t leave the kids by themselves.15 -
0123-8.0k total 58.3k, goal-100k
8km late last night around the apartment complex. Felt a bit like a hamster running on a wheel (but still better than dreadmill). Those are brick-paved roads so the bottoms of my feet aren't very happy today.
The first 5km were really slow. Got chased by a few small specimens of canine during the second half, and was suddenly able to pick up the pace.
Missed too many runs to make goal this month. Might still get to 90km. Fingers crossed.
Upcoming races:
04.15 Beijing International Running Festival (HM) (registration not open yet)
05.13 Beijing Tongzhou Half Marathon (registration not open yet)14 -
W2D2 of C25K done. The first two intervals were a little bit of a struggle, but it got much better after that...even the dog is liking the longer intervals. Tomorrow is weightlifting.

6.6 miles for Kody and I on another perfect night for running. I'm getting back to finishing one of my 2018 goals which is to run every street in our town. This was the 26th run I've made towards that goal.
It was supposed to be a rest day by with very high winds tomorrow bringing in arctic air, I decided to run tonight. I don't mind cold weather by high wind sucks

Good mail day today!
First is a pair of Altra Superior 3.5, bought on clearance for $60. Not my first choice for color but I'll take any color at this price.
Second is a new running shirt. As you can see from the logo it's not meant for running but for fishing. I think it will make a fine running shirt. It's very thin so either I'd use it for running in a slight chill, say 30F to 40F, or for a long run in the hot sun to protect my arms from sunburn. I'll also use for sailing I think.15 -
@7lenny7 How's the repaired toe tendon while running and the next day?
@Orphia thanks for asking!
My tendon is doing pretty good, I think. During my first couple of runs there was enough pain that I thought about scheduling a visit with the surgeon, just to make sure it wasn't unusual. The pain seem to be in the spot of the initial rupture, not at the repair, which is about 2 cm further down the foot. The amount of pain, and the frequency with which I feel it, has been decreasing, however, so I'm not as concerned. Last night I went for a 7 mile run and felt it a few times in the first mile or two, then maybe a couple of times during the rest of my run. My theory is that it's random adhesions which are coming loose as I run. I may try doing some targeted massage of that area.
The bigger issue has been a tightness of the tendon on the inside of my foot, going from the lower leg to the inside of my heel bone. A longer warm up seems to help, and foam rolling my hamstring and calf seem to help, I just need to remember to actually do it.
Call me a worrier (I am) but I'm concerned you can't feel it because you're running a lot and the happy hormones are masking the pain. #beentheredonethat
That's why I was also wondering how it is on your rest days, and how many of those you have.0 -
Last night was, for me, the perfect running temperature. 18F/-8C with low wind. At this temp I can easily keep cool, I have no chance of cold feet, and I don't need to wear heavy gloves. With the nearly full moon it would have been a fantastic night to run trails without a headlamp, but alas...10 more days before I can get back on the trails.
Kody & I made it 7 miles as I ran my happy face route. I was surprised my ice beard was as good as it was, with the temp that high. My tendon repair site felt pretty good, it only made itself known a few times. Overall the pain is decreasing. My concerning was a tendon on the inside of my heel. I need to massage it and roll out my calf on a regular basis.
Kody was rather frisky last night. Normally he runs right by my side at a perfect heel, except when he stops to do his business. Last night he ran ahead of me quite a bit, which I enjoyed because I like to watching him run. He's a happy dog lately.
Great happy face! I think it needs an ice beard, though. Is there any way you can make a couple out & backs to the water there across from the school?
@greenolivetree get the table if it's at all possible. Mine paid for itself in just a month of not needing to go to the chiropractor. I don't need it much anymore, but my husband uses it, and it does fold up so we can put it in the closet.3 -
