Some brands have been found to have a higher level of alcohol than legally allowed:
https://www.foodnavigator-usa.com/Article/2018/03/16/Health-Ade-lawsuit-highlights-continuing-area-of-legal-vulnerability-for-kombucha-makers-sugar-and-alcohol-levels#
And some people do feel a slight buzz from it, me included and also apparently this lady:
https://www.bodyandsoul.com.au/mind-body/wellbeing/i-get-drunk-off-one-kombucha/news-story/d888ecbd7cbe78ba00c7451a2f2b2975
Some non-drinkers do drink it with no problems but the point is to have some caution.
Thanks for the info!
I still think people use the Woo button for various reasons, it might not have been a bad thing, I wouldn't worry about it.3 -
Yes, the woo button has been used a few times lately. Maybe they don’t realize it’s a negative button to use. Like a thumbs down.4

After a while I cut back to just drinking on the weekend at 7pm and only 5-6 beers. Then one day I got sick and needed to be on antibiotics that required me to not drink. It was the hardest 10 days of my life, and I decided then that I was done with alcohol. I felt it had a deathgrip on me and I hated who I was and wished I could change everyday I drank. It was a tough year or so after quitting drinking and I had a lot of anxiety issues and sought therapy for it. But I gained so much from breaking free of the disease of alcoholism! Now I hate alcohol and stay away from anyone who drinks because it makes me angry because it reminds me of that dark time in my life.
Thanks for sharing your story. Happy you changed and got out of the death grip (great word).2 -
Today is 2 weeks AF. It is also the 5th day of getting off my BP meds.
BP meds have a half life of about 12 hours and take about 5 days to get completely out of your system. My BP meds were also a diuretic. Weight gain over the past 5 days from getting off of them is 6 pounds - all while still exercising and being under calorie goal. I hope weight gain is finally done and I can start back down again. I will know tomorrow morning.
Getting AF to get med free and gain (temporary) weight is still so worth it!12 -
Good morning! The sun is shining and I am heading out to golf and hopefully stay warm... 🏌️♀️ ⛳️ I feel blessed to be part of this group and was thinking the morning I am SO thankful that I decided to stop drinking now. I have missed many times/years and I am glad of making the change in my life. I think of all the positives of not drinking and when I want to pour that glass (which turns into many more for me) its not worth it.
Wishing you a great Friday!8 -

I consider Woo as WooHoo as in, "You GO girl!!" You were posting as I was writing out my comment from Wikipedia about Kombucha being slightly alcoholic...so, you were right on as you well know and as @RubyRed427 says it can mean different things to different people & not necessarily something negative.

Ooooops!!!! It was actually @errydayimmusclin who made the comment about the woos not being a bad thing necessarily....ANYHOOO....
@Wendyjfit105 Thank you for sharing your story...always very encouraging to read about others overcoming their struggles...it isn't always an easy ride, but SO worth any hard bits.
Another SNOW day in my part of the world...I made it into town & finished up part of a job from Monday, went & got my hair trimmed & hilighted and watched the weather squall in & out and by the time I left my hairdresser they had closed my highway home, so I took the backroads and it was a wee bit dicey at times, but overall not terrible for too long of a stretch...a few white outs that were sketchy...BUT I made it home safe & sound...WOOHOO!

I guess we can change the meaning of the woo button on this thread. That would baffle the monsters..lol
Positive people should take it positively and don't worry abt the rest..
Positivity is good for your health. That's something I have learnt from alcohol, that is.. is changes that to doom n gloom. For me anyhow.
Cheers

WOO HOO!! Fantastic job!1 -
Good job on your sobriety OP!
I don't really count days but it's been about 2 weeks since I had a drink. I am really starting to notice if I give in once, even if it's a few drinks on special occasion, I end up "needing" it to cope with stress.... which then makes my life more stressful cause I will act stupid when I'm drunk. I had an occasional drink on new years with my husband and I started wanting it everyday.
I'm tired of drugs and alcohol effecting my relationships. My whole family suffers from addiction.9 -

I think you only have the hour to edit the post. I don’t believe you can delete the post entirely. You can delete all you wrote but you have to leave at least a period. I don’t believe you can delete other replies or even your MFP icon that shows you made the post3 -

@mommadare07 I am so happy for you and your two weeks AF! I too have recently gave up alcohol, dry Jan and Feb besides Super Bowl! The positives outweigh the negatives. I can be a really mean drunk. Not worth it! Feeling peace and happiness! I can handle stressful issues so much better than turning to alcohol!6

It's fun to track my eating now that I am not messing things up on an almost-nightly basis by drinking wine and having "a few snacks" late at night! I gave myself 50 days of going without wine and not worrying about what I ate too much just to get used to it. But now I very encouraged and hopeful that I will finally get to my "wear anything I want weight--including a bikini (and no, I am not too old!) LOL6

I went to a cocktail party last night. Everyone knew I had recently stopped drinking and the hosts had plenty of AF beverages for me - so considerate!
The group is a lot of fun and my wife and I got invited to a LOT of different places because I could be sober-chauffeur haha.

I'm not sure I really belong on this thread, I apologize that I've only read about the first 10 pages and the most recent 10 pages so far. But my husband and I decided to do a dry year for 2019. Six weeks into it, no problem, but I have noticed that I am having a bit harder time than my husband. We weren't big drinkers before but would typically have something in the house and drink maybe 3 days of each month. But on trips we would always go to wineries and/or craft breweries and stuff like that, and I find myself already missing it. Today we were at a local convention and given an invite to a new microbrewery and I was inordinately bummed out for an hour thinking about it. It will be interesting to get past that. My husband (who drank with the same frequency as me) wasn't bothered at all!
Anyway...following for thoughts on this totally alcohol free year (and possibly more).6 -
@seltzermint555 Welcome to our group of wonderfully supportive people. Sounds to me like this is the place for you to be if you & your hubby have committed to an AF 2019. It doesn't sound like either of you have a drinking issue though so wondering what prompted you to go AF. I think it's a great decision, just curious.4

@lagoscarrie Interesting how the nightly (or mostly nightly) drinking habit can kinda sneak up & grab you enough to make it hard to shake so good on you for gaining control. Welcome to our group!3

@Ed_Zilla So happy for you that you have a good group of supportive friends AND I`m certain they appreciate having a DD!!
THANK YOU for ALL my WooHoos!! I've beat my ~woo~ record & I'm feeling kinda special right now LOL6 -

Absolutely! I had a number of really good reasons to say goodbye to wine, but lack of control over eating was on the list.5 -
On day 27 of no booze. Not planning on giving it up entirely but going for 100 days initially then a paradigm shift on where, when and why I drink8

We should change the meaning of it! You guys are the best most positive people!seltzermint555 wrote: »I'm not sure I really belong on this thread, I apologize that I've only read about the first 10 pages and the most recent 10 pages so far. I also don't drink despite never having had an alcohol problem. It sounds like it might be more of a FOMO thing for you. In that situation what I would say is, "Wineries and breweries are not going to disappear anytime soon. I can always try new microbreweries later." Congratulations on the first month and change of the dry year!
****
Anyway went to my friends' double birthday party tonight. It was a great time. This guy asked me and a bunch of other people to do a shot, and I had FOMO for a minute, like "young people are supposed to do rounds of shots!" But then I remembered that shots are disgusting and I never did them even when I drank.
I still did the "cheers" and all with my seltzer (I brought four interesting flavors of seltzer to the party and people drank them all!) while they were all doing shots, and had a good time joking around with them. I feel like if I hang out with people who are drinking I get the same social "buzz" that they get but without the alcohol.
This guy who offered the shot was one of those people who pressures people to drink though. He pressured my friend who usually doesn't drink to take five shots and I was kind of side-eyeing about it because it seemed like my friend didn't really want to drink that much but didn't want to offend.
I'm happy I didn't drink especially because I went over my calories for today. The host of the party is a great cook and she made vegan chili, cheesy grits, collard greens, and vegan chocolate cake, and it was amazing.8 -
@seltzermint555 - I think you found the right place. Best wishes to your continued success!
@laurenq1991 - I had to "urban dictionary" FOMO - I assume it is - Fear of Missing Out. Correct?6 -
Good morning, friends! I am at my scrapbook weekend with friends and my sister. It has been a little sad for me, because of my personal relationship issue. However, I brought a bottle of wine with me. I drank it like a normal person throughout the weekend and didn’t have any drinks at the bar. They were expensive. $14 per cocktail.
Anyway, last evening, I knew the ladies were going to go for drinks and I kept thinking when are they going. It was like an obsession for me. It became late and I decided don’ t go for a drink and go to bed. They ended up going to the bar and I was cozy in my bed. No regrets.
One more thing, a friend of mine asked recently if she can come over and have a drink. She is going through a tough time. I said “Sorry, but I have a rule for myself I never drink at home. “ I think when I get my apartment this summer, I WONT have any alcohol in it. If I want a drink on occasion, I will need to go somewhere to get one. That will be a good inhibitor.11 -

Thank you for the warm welcome, all!
Honestly one of our favorite YouTubers (husband and wife from Finland) did a dry year in 2018 just for health and to see if it would be difficult for them. So we were inspired by them and thought we would try the same for 2019.
Yes, I do think it's partly FOMO that has me a little disturbed at times! And it's very true that the wineries & breweries will always be there. They have never been my top destination so I'm hoping the dry year (or more) will just reinforce that.
