WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR MARCH 2019

I think my daughters saved my life. When my husband and I divorced, they were only 2 and 3 he more or less disappeared for several years. We were alone until the were 12 and 13. I went through some pretty rough spots financially and emotionally. Had it not been for them and me not wanting anyone else to be their Mom, I think I may have not made it through. Of course there have been hard times but even now when the oldest, 44, leaves she always kisses me goodbye and says I love you Mommy and youngest, 43, posts on Facebook a meme that says I am a Strong Woman because I was raised by a Strong Woman or she is asked who is your hero and she answers My Mom, my heart is so full of love it pushes out all the other stuff.
We are all very close still. Im in Ok, oldest in CO and youngest in TX and the three of us have a running group conversation daily. Sometimes not on weekends as they are busy with their families. I wouldn't change it for the world.

Hi all - we had a fun day here with our grandson. Almost 2......he is a real ham, so much fun.

Megblair that was me who comes to Kearney every week if the weather is ok! Someone else mentioned GI, which I go zooming by on 80! Will give u girls a wave as I go by!

I also deal with self-sabotaging if I have one little slip.....,.i throw the towel in and think I might as well eat whatever, I have ruined this day. MFP has really helped me with that. I go ahead and record the mess up and see it’s not so bad after all!

Ok off to bed. Hoping the best for all of u!

Tracey if you don't want to spend your weekend that way, then listen to yourself and do not. Either schedule activities that your friend would actually participate in and find healthy eating options, or just don't go! You must take care of yourself first. So sorry for your loss. It's even worse when you're far away.

noegrand "record the mess and see it's not so bad after all" Yes! Great way to avoid catastrophic thinking and its aftermath.

Spent most of the day playing in the kitchen, put together an experimental dough for dinner rolls containing oat bran. Will bake 'em tomorrow. Also modified Pam's son's favorite beans, using soy chorizo and canned kidney beans. Not so successful... :{ Time would have been better invested in SWSY.

Drama swirling round from both sides of the family. Proud of myself that I supported DH and drove 2 hours in traffic to Brooklyn after work in a show of support for MIL, who is getting stressed from all sides, only 1 hour drive back, but didn’t get to bed till late. My side of the family is in a ridiculous power struggle between sister and sister-in-law—all out screaming yellin’ power struggle—-over a birthday party—-yikes.

Taking time to breathe, thank goodness for food prep! Have not turned to stress eating yet.

Good morning all! Happy Wednesday! Got myself up at 4:45 to shovel because we were supposed to get about another four to five inches of snow over night, only to find that Tim had gone out and gotten the shoveling done! Yea! It is 6:34 and I have already walked 30 minutes on the treadmill, had two cups of coffee, gotten a load of laundry done and made pancakes for the kid's breakfast. I have time to talk!
Kate UK- Sorry to hear about your daughter's retina problems. I understand your worries. I, by nature, am not a worrier; but I married one. Tim seems to spend 90% of his day worrying about the kids. I just breathe my way through everything. in-out, in-out...all will be well...(((hugs)))
NY Karen- I think family drama is the worst! The drama created by my own sibs/sib-in-laws always stresses me out and leaves me thinking "wtf?!" At least if my own kids or hubby give me drama, I can own that by thinking "Well, I chose that!" or "Well, I raised that!" But the in law and sib thing is the worst! My condolences and sending prayers/vibes for peace and strength! Always needed!
Machka- Your busy days and ability to fit in your exercise is so inspiring to me! I bet it is to your DH as well! Enjoy the new bike and rowing machine! I would LOVE to see your fluffy mane!
Barbara- Let me know how that bread turns out! I have a fantastic white bread recipe (my aunt's) but need a really great wheat or bran recipe, as white flour is off the table for me!
Karenp2f- Yes! Way to avoid the carbs and go for an apple before bed! Just wondering, what kind of apple you like?
Janetr- Love the love between you and your daughters/grandchildren. Like you, I talk to my daughter (she is in Texas) every day and do a video chat with her and Joaquin at least 3 times a week. I miss them (especially the baby) so much, but remind myself that we look up and see the same sun and moon and stars and that the world is a better place as long as they walk on it!
Rita and Barbara! I think you both celebrated birthdays while I was feeling blue and I missed them! Hope you both had wonderful days and are blessed with a new/exciting (in a good way) year!
Regarding mothers (and fathers)- I had good parents. I loved them both dearly and for the 26 years that they were in my life; I knew I was loved. That said, as an adult looking back, I can see things that they did or didn't do, that I would not do or would have done differently. I don't recall ever having any sort of discussion about college or receiving any sort of encouragement to continue my education. I don't recall any discussion about any paths in life other than wifedom/motherhood. Motherhood was never anything I particularly aspired to; in fact I have vivid recollections of thinking that I never wanted to have kids. I just wanted to travel the world. They also didn't attend school functions that I was involved in (such as track meets, french club dinners, choir concerts, or basket ball games I "pommed" at). I don't recall feeling jilted or ignored, so maybe the parental involvement during that time (late 70s, early 80s) wasn't a big thing for anyone. My mom was a born again Christian, so a LOT of time was spent talking about God. There was good and bad to that influence. Anyway, I often hear adult/parents say that they hope they can never be as good a parent as their parent was/is. Well, although I have had my crazy mom moments, I think because of how I was raised I am doing a better job than my parents did. So far. lol (Don't want to get to big for my britches).

Well, kids arriving, so I better scoot! We are making Welcome Spring door hangings today! I am hoping the thoughts of spring will bring the winter cold to an end. I love snow; but I think I have reached the point where I have had enough of the cold and shoveling! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)
