@Squish815 Congrats on that cake, er longest run! Way to go in that wind too! Yikes! I had a hard time just walking in it the other day.
Thank you @Elise4270 The only upside was the few times the wind was behind me, pretty sure that helped me pace! Hope you're allowed a wade in the pool at your follow up!

Happy belated to @amirahdaboss and @ContraryMaryMary .
@7lenny7 hope you're not too sore today!
@Elise4270 hope you're upcoming visit goes well.
1 mile and change before PT circuit training this morning, little over 6 in yesterday. Pick up the new trail shoes tomorrow and going to try them out/break them in right away. Hope is for somewhere between 12 and 18 tomorrow. Then easy runs next week, and taper the following culminating in a trial trail marathon on 3/30. I am still not sure what snack to bring for the aid station, any suggestions?
Also have signed up for a 10K in Rainsville, AL, that looks like a load of fun. this one . If anyone else in the group is running it please let me know, I will be in town Friday evening and all day Saturday before the race, and would enjoy putting faces with names usernames,5 -
Super sad day for the Muslim community worldwide. I woke up to the livestream of the New Zealand shooting on my twitter and burst into tears. Horrifying, and makes me scared to go to the mosque! May they Rest In Peace!
On a running note, it’s a beautiful day for running today. 60 degrees and cloudy and it smells like its gonna rain! I went to the gym and ran a bit but I may get out again later to enjoy the weather.

@workaholic_nurse I'm a bit sore from the run for some reason, but the fall didn't seem to leave any lasting pain. I've never heard of a race which required entrants to bring snacks for the aid station. I like Oreos, M&M's, orange slices, banana halves, pickles, pretzles, and miniature candy bars like snickers. Fireball is nice too.5

@amirahdaboss - It makes me sad and horrified that such a terrible thing could happen (again) in a place of worship and during prayers. I don't think anyone should ever have to be afraid to go into their chosen place of worship... such craziness in the world!
@7lenny7 - hope you aren't too sore and banged up from that fall!
@Squish815 - Good for you running in that wind!!
What's up with the wind these days - seems like we are all having strong winds! We are having Santa Ana winds off the desert and even though the desert isn't hot yet the winds are dry and warm. Nice but very windy today but will be in the 80's(F) over the weekend.
So I may have entered the lottery this morning for this race in November. It looks like the Nike Women's races they used to have and I always wanted to run. Nike hasn't had one in a long time but this looks to be a great one. A pretty much flat course in Palm Desert in late November! My Oiselle group set up a team for entry so it is likely we will get in! It will be expensive but I figure it is a once in a lifetime event. Also it has a 5 hour cutoff so worse case I could walk it.

Is that a thing down there in NZ? It did not matter if he was asked a question or anything. He literally just said "yeah" anytime he wanted to talk.
Yeah, it really is.
Our favourite phrase "yeah, nah"5 -
So just woke, still feeling a bit shocked. Thw shooter was an Australian who wanted to take out migrants. Wonder if he sees the irony.
Scrolling through Facebook and news items, and I'm humbled again and again alby the love and support being given to the Muslim community in NZ and around the world. There were 4 people who spewed hate and fear, but 5 million who don't. That's pretty special.
And our prime minister really stepped up. She's absolutely amazing. You could hear the emotion in her voice and she said just the right words.
As for running. I had a good week, not too much but enough that I feel much better. Yay11 -

Coming from a country that also has very rare incidents such as this (our last in 2011 and before that 1996 - the incident that led to the banning of handguns in the UK) I know what you are feeling. And it just isn't how New Zealand is assumed to be. It's a peaceful nation (except the whole LOTR thing), and for this to happen just shows how twisted people's minds have become. sorry for such a sad end to your birthday @ContraryMaryMary - but it looks like you had a great day
I'm sorry to say that I've become rather hardened to gun violence as a reality of life in the US - after Sandy Hook in particular, it just felt like nothing would change and I had to go on with my life or spend all my time in a ball under the blankets. I've been humbled seeing some of the younger generation speaking up more recently, however, so who knows what the future may hold. Anyhow, it hurts my heart to see this happen in a more peaceful country like New Zealand, and I'm thinking of all of you, as well as Muslim communities all across the world.4 -
Rest day today. Spent 4 hours in the car getting to Virginia Beach. Several annoying stretches of construction and traffic, but much less stressful with plenty of time built in. I'll call the plan of taking 2 days to get here a winner.
I actually got to the expo before it closed, picked up my bibs, and went to talk to the folks at the registration desk. J&A Racing had sent me an ad to upgrade my half marathon to the Dolphin Challenge (8K + Half Marathon). But I was already registerd for the 8K. Question: Am I in the Dolphin Challenge for running both races, or am I not in it because the USATF Masters 8K is technically a different race than the Towne Bank Shamrock 8K? Turns out I can't be counted for Dolphin Challenge standings without messing up the USATF bib. But the nice lady traded my half marathon bib for a Dolphin Challenge bib, so I can get the Dolphin Challenge medal for running both races. Which is why I need two singlets, since I won't be able to do laundry between the 8K tomorrow and the half on Sunday:
And speaking of multiple races on the same weekend . . . I thought of @PastorVincent when I was at the expo. I saw an oval magnet with 48.6 inside. The caption around the margin said, "This was a Dopey idea." If I were contemplating the Dopey Challenge, I would have bought one.12 -
Have a great set of races, @MobyCarp !
I found this beer at the local liquor store the other day. I was tempted to buy a 6-pack until I saw it had salt in it.
ETA: After reading this, now I think I'm going to go back and buy some

4% alcohol, 9 grams carbs, 120 calories, with himalayan salt for an electrolyte.
It has ties to the Boston Marathon and was "spearheaded" by a marathon runner at the Boston Beer Company.6 -

Yeah, we say yeah a lot. Yeah-nah even more. When I was living in London I was mocked for saying actually a lot.2 -

Instead of an entry fee, the race organizers have requested this. Works for me!4 -
Why have I never seen this before? So I am super late to this thread but I am in for 125 miles for March.
Miles so far:
3/1 = 2.1
3/1 = 2.5(treadmill)
3/2 = 10
3/4 = 6.5
3/5 = 2
3/6= 5
3/7= 2.1
3/8 = 6.9
3/9 = 10
3/11 = 5.1
3/12 = 2.2
3/13 = 3
3/14= 3.14
3/15 = 6.7
Total so far 67.2 at least that is what my Garmin says.

OMG I'm actually excited I found this! Not a super awesome runner but I would like to get in at least 3 miles daily. I've done a few 5ks in the past 2 years and I absolutely love it. I have one coming up next month. Hopefully a 10k by the end of the year for the Resolution Run. *crossing fingers*14

Happy to see that after a slow start to the month, I'm halfway to goal. Road-trip with the running girls tomorrow for a trail adventure. Except for the 6am departure time, it should be fun!
