Morning ladies and hope everyone is doing great, Our weather is finally getting fairly decent so I walked the big dog down by the river, only to have another boxer get lose from him owner and charge my dog, They did the usual posturing and I though it would be ok since my dog is so mellow but the other dog decided to scuffle. My dog backed into me in a hurry and dumped me on my knees, so here I sit this morning, hour's away from our weekend get a way and my knee is swollen and painful. I am bummed since there was a hike we like to do.
On another note I got my goal weight charm in the mail from Weight Watchers. I only do on line so I didn't think you got any charms so I was surprised and pleased. I have already set another goal of 20 pounds less then my original. I had doubts in the beginning I would make that goal and was happy it was fairly easy, although slow. Well, time to finish packing and hobble to the guest room where I think I have a brace stashed from one of my surgeries, have a great weekend everyone,4 -
Good morning all! Happy Friday! Happy Good Friday for those who observe the holiday. I have Trentin this morning and then again after school until 9:30. Then I am off for the weekend! Yea! Today is our "take our grandparents/special person for a walk" day! I have kept this day quiet from the kids, because I was worried that some of the kids' wouldn't have a grandparent or special person able to come (due to work or distance). I am happy to say that each child will have a special person here! Yea! So I will get the kids ready for our walk at about 9:40 and the "specials" will begin arriving at about 9:50. I can't wait to see the kids faces as their person arrives! So there will be thirteen of us walking to our snack tree (about a mile away) and back. I will try to get some pictures. This is the first time I have ever invited grandparents to visit us during the day. I have been practicing pronouncing some of the last names. Szymczyk, being the trickiest.
Machka-Hurrah for sleep! If you and DH both got 12 hours, I would say it was definitely needed!
Carol- Glad to know your surgery went well and sending your healing thoughts, prayers, and vibes!
Heather- I think both you and your DH look ravishing in the auburn wig! lol Truly, though, you could easily be a blond or a brunette; and a stunning one at that! I love your beach picture with Edie! I am sure she has lots of energy and can be a live wire, but in the photos she just looks like such a sweet and gentle soul! Hope you can shake the rest of the cold that seems to be hanging on!
Allie- Glad to know the problem with the young office manager has been resolved. I got a chuckle out of his father calling to speak with the dentist! As a mama, I have felt the urge to go into mama bear mode for my 25 year old; thankfully I have stepped back and let him handle his own issues. (They don't learn if we keep interfering)
Lisa- safe travels! I know how much you love to be in hotels! Hope your meetings go well!
My daughter Lauren has been battling everything this spring. Strep, sinus infections and allergies. It has been miserable for her, as she is in her second trimester of her pregnancy and the doc's seem reluctant to give her strong enough meds to kick it out. She called me at about midnight last night, crying into the phone about her ears and throat. Her hubby was working the night shift last night, so she was home alone with Joaquin, who didn't want to sleep and was up playing and causing a ruckus until 11:00. *sigh* times like that really make me wish she weren't so far away. I had her list everything in her medicine cabinet and all I could advise was heat the corn bag and alternate it under her head/ears to help relieve the pressure or help drain if there is any fluid in there. Take acetomeniphen and/or sudafed decongestant with a pain reliever. Salt water gargle for the throat. She did and decided to wait until her hubby got home and go into the med center at that point. I am glad she has today off work.

My husband has a cold, and had a busy week, so I was glad he was able to sleep. He actually went back to bed and slept for another 2 hours!! His brain injury means that he can do stuff but if does more than he probably should one day, the next day, he's very tired. He has to pace himself.
I might also be fighting a cold -- there is one going around work. And I've been running from one task to another and just getting more and more tired to the point, I've had a lot of trouble concentrating this week.
I did get up at 8:30 am, after 8 hour's of sleep to use the toilet, and wondered if I'd sleep again. 4 hours later, I realised that sleeping again was no problem at all!
And yes, to all the new ladies, just leap right in!!

Hi all, still battling this horrible cold. Got about four and a half hours sleep last night.
Went out to buy some lamb for a Goan sweetcorn curry and there was no lamb at all and only expensive cuts of beef. Well, it is Good Friday. I bought meatballs instead. Should be ok in the same recipe. I've got to make something that I can leave to heat up for DH who is at the cricket. There will be enough to freeze for another day.
I am all sinussy and the weather is glorious, around 78°. I'm going to take a nap as I could hardly crawl up the stairs just now. I was hoping to do a Parkrun tomorrow, but I'll have to see.
KJ - Edie is the one with the highest emotional intelligence. She is very empathetic and wise in some ways, but can also be very mischievous and cunning. She asks really insightful questions which show she can think inside someone else's head. But she loves to play jokes on people! She is physically daring, which is a bit of a challenge!
I am missing them already and I'm going to see them on Sunday!
Now to have a little snzzzzzzzzzz........

Good morning,
Just checking in. Hope everyone meets their goals today, including myself. Hugs to those who need them. 😊
Have a great day!!!!6 -
Beth and Lanette and all who expressed concern, delighted to report that Scooter's recovery continues. It seems little short of miraculous to us. Ears and tail high, eyes bright, nose shining, champion p and pooper, he even sneaked up the stairs by himself twice.
Tracey two upcoming interviews? Hooray! And a snap of the fingers to that discouraging career counselor. Take THAT!
Margaret "Maybe it is for the best I cannot bring forth a Civil Law suit. It puts me in a better position for advocating for a police program that First deescalates. Guns and tasers are only used as a last resort. Police officers must have PTSD too. They are more like soldiers than peace officers today." What a great way to turn the horrific experience to good. Well done!
Suebdew, Sacramento instead of San Antonion, not so bad, but Guam instead of Alaska?!? WOW!
Katla Why is she so very angry? Was the work party short handed? Are there skills that only you possess? What happened when you told her that your DH had a bad spell, that he has to come first and that you were sorry you couldn’t attend? If she's a real friend, she'll understand that your DH is your priority. It's not like you were trying to shirk the work. Barbie's "be prepared for her to stay angry" insight may be spot on.
pip you are SUCH a hottie!
Welcome Kim, let us know your general locale so we can keep you straight in our minds.
Welcome Marianne from Norway and Canada.
Welcome Stephanie, I use a Wahoo HRM, and it's app on my iphone links with Apple's health app, and from there it feeds into mfp. Most of the gals here eat back some but not all of their exercise calories. Brava for teaching Zumba despite your fibromyalgic pain.
Just skimmin and too sleepy to chat more or share the miracle of the bookshelves. Hugs to all (Thanks Rebecca!)

Rough draft to police chief:
I am writing to you not to access blame rather to work towards solutions that will create better outcomes for all concerned.
I hope you too consider using the deescalating initiative that Minneapolis is starting in their police department. Previous training was actually called warrior training. I think they are beginning to realise too many police officers and civilians are getting injured and killed using the warrior training method.
After watching how my son's arrest was handled I totally agree. It was hard enough already and the actions taken only made the situation only more difficult.
Our son was being picked up on a warrant for missing a Mental Health Court date Even though the court had issued the warrant, they were the ones that called for police help the day of his arrest. Their intention was not to arrest him but to give help to get him to the hospital. They were aware his mental health was starting to disintegrate by his actions and wanted to get him the help he needed. They are currently reviewing their policy in how they ask for help from the police.
If our son was threatening someone or destroying property I could see the police using the actions they took. He was asleep in his bed. The officers behavior aggravated the situation. I witnessed son repeatedly asking why he was being arrested. When the charges were read to him in court the judge issued a rule 20 meaning he is incapable on understanding the charges brought. Part of what I do not understand is why he was not taken to the hospital for evaluation and place an officer outside his door because of the warrant. Instead he was taken to jail where his mental state only disintegrated further.
When things escalated to the degree I witnessed I worried an officer and our son would get hurt. Our son was hurt. He was tased twice. Our son lashed out at the officers because he felt threatened. Our son was traumatised by this experience. I ask you to review what happened not to issue any apology or reparmand to any one rather to figure out if there are other ways this to address this problem.
I agree our son needs to be even more responsible in managing his illness. He was making strides when this happened. He was not drinking. He was working on resolving differences with others using peaceful means. His participation in his health care had improved. Still even with these improvements his illness relapsed. Unfortunately this can be a pattern with this illness even while taking medication.
His arrest is part of part of the story. The part I left out is because of his illness he has had numerous dealings with the police. Part of my theory to his treatment in this arrest is they had run out of patience with him. Still what they do not realize their treatment this time and from what I learned in the past encounters with the police only makes it harder for him to get well. It only makes it more likely they will have to deal with him again. I am putting my take on what happened so hopefully finding better options will be found that will lead to a better outcome for everyone meaning the police, our son, and society as a whole. This is a goal I believe we can all agree.
This is my rough draft to the Police Chief. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Margaret

We did get out for a 5 km walk this afternoon ... hopefully that wore us out enough (in a good non-stressful way) so we sleep well tonight.

Beautiful sunny weather here lots of washing blowing in the sun, I love to hang it out in the garden. DH has planted out some of his tomato seedlings.
Welcome to all the new ladies who've joined us.
Finished my first ever knitted sock, not perfect but I'm pleased now got to do another. I believe it's possible to knit 2 at once might look into that, getting ambitious now LOL I should be cleaning and cooking not knitting but heyho life's too short. I tell myself learning a new skill is good for my brain.

Vicki & Snowflake: Thanks for your comment about the problem with my horse riding friend. I appreciate the support. She feels that I've let her down in some way, and I"m sorry about that. I've been doing the best I can.
Allie: I am amazed at the gall of the fired office manager’s dad calling the dentist. On the other hand, it explains some of the spoiled brat behavior that got him fired. :ohwell:
Ginger in TX: Your goats are cuties.
Carol: Congratulations on getting the surgery done. I hope you heal quickly and are able to enjoy life more.
Barbie: Thanks for your good advice. “It's so hard to choose between your husband's needs and your commitment to your friend at the stable. Take time to tell her how sorry you are to have been unable to help her, but your husband's needs had to come first. Then let go of any expectations and be prepared for her to stay angry. Angry people often see only their own side of any situation.”
Machka: Enjoy your 11 days off.
Heather: Your DH is a wonderfully good sport. The long brown wig you’re wearing looks like fun, too. Edie is a lucky girl to have such fun grandparents.
Kimberlyhshaw: Welcome to a great group. “Morbidly obese” is a wakeup call to let a person know that their health and life may be in jeopardy. It is pretty scary to hear. I am impressed with your 11.8 pound loss since the doctor’s appointment. WTG! :flowerforyou:
Marianne from Norway & Canada: Welcome!!!
Stephanie: Welcome! :flowerforyou:
Pip: Beautiful photo of your smiling face!!!
Kim: I’m glad to hear your camp gardening job is still there, and with better pay. YAY!!!
Barbara: I am keeping the thought in mind that my stable owning friend is likely to stay mad. I may not be able to ride her horse any more if she decides it is not okay with her. She has been very generous with me and I am grateful for that. Her disappointment in my not attending the work party may make a big difference. I have to see how things go. :ohwell:
Margaret: You’ve done a great job with your letter to the police. I personally think this comment is highly relevant and needs to stand out to them as a key message; “If our son was threatening someone or destroying property I could see the police using the actions they took. Instead he was taken to jail where his mental state only disintegrated further.” They need better training and better skills.” :grumble:
We had a nice time sitting outside and visiting with neighbors yesterday evening. I hope we get to do this more often. The lovely weather was also a treat.

Had a nap and made my strange curry in the IP. We will see how it turns out!
Still blowing my nose and no energy. Grrrrrrrrrr!
The gardens out the back are looking splendid. Trees are covered in blossom, including our lilac. If you join them all together in the block there is acres of lush green space. This morning we watched a fox chase a squirrel as well as the normal myriad bird antics. When we moved to this city by the sea we did not expect so much wildlife!

Grandson got his green belt in karate this week. We are so happy for him...this program gives them self confidence and teaches them to respect other.

Hugs to those who need them. Great to see so many new people.
Heather: Grandkiddies can be mischievous imps at times, but such a joy. I hope you shake off the snuffles soon. A wee doze will do you the world of good.
Margaret: My heart goes out to you and your son. I hope there is a positive resolution to the situation.
Machka: i surely hope that your walk in the fresh air has the desired result.
Kate: 💖 the colour of you socks.
I am fully over my weekend away. Was surprised that I didn’t put on much weight.
Temperature is finally in double figures. I walked part of the way home from camera club this afternoon, and will get in another walk after dinner.
DH has had acute sciatica in his left hip/knee area for over 2 weeks and is having difficulty sleeping. He finally went to the doctor yesterday, and has been given cocodamol and a gel and a cream to massage into the area. He is very frustrated because he is usually very active and this is greatly curtailed at the minute.
Tomorrow I will be 73. On Sunday we have a family dinner at DBiKs/DSiL’s house. I will get in extra exercise and forgo most of the rich food as I don’t want to have bellyache again. My body has become a tyrant when I over indulge. 😂 😂 😂
🐣 Have a lovely Easter weekend 🐣

Greetings from Los Angeles! Laura, here.
So many members here it is hard to keep track!
Some of you were dealing with colonoscopies. They are quite unpleasant, but they can save your life.
Margaret- Hope the police Chief is receptive to your letter. And I hope your son gets the help he needs to get better. I also have a son with a mental illness he has had his whole life but was only diagnosed a few years ago. He is 36. He is not getting any treatment for it now, I am sorry to say. More about that at a later time.
I’m enjoying reading everyone’s posts and all the photos of family, gardens, pets, etc!
Showed a small weight loss last night. 1.4 pounds over two weeks. Not much but better than a gain. Missed exercise class this week and haven’t gotten any good walks in, either. My mom hasn’t been feeling very well. She had two doctors appointments yesterday. She saw Pulmanologist last week, but treatment he prescribed has not cleared up her cough. She has COPD. The Pulmanologist is a wonderful doctor, but it is so hard to contact his office staff. Call and it goes to voicemail. Even get a live person, leave a message and no callback. Frustrating. I have to call again. And if I do contact them and they want mom to go the the office, I am the only one available to take her.
Today we are having our closets redone. If I had to do it again, I would do one closet at a time. Things from the closets are everywhere! Then to put everything back again! Not looking forward to it.
Have to shop for Easter dinner foods. My mom wants a leg of lamb. On Easter morning we are to attend a service at a church we have not been to before. Our cousin’s little girl will be baptized during the service. My mom really wants to go. So we will see if we make it there. It’s always difficult with the oxygen and wheelchair or walker. It will just be me taking mom. I shouldn’t stress about it.
Happy weekend and Happy Easter to all that celebrate it!

Carol - I always marvel at how much your grandchildren look like you!
DH home. The curried meatballs with sweetcorn was delicious. We are going to have the rest of it on Sunday as we are out and about with the family in the day and I'm not sure what they are doing about eating. The fish and chip place says it is open! Will be good to have a meal ready to heat through when we get back,
Sunday we are going on a steam train for an Easter Egg hunt. My son is picking us up.

Hello from Texas! My name is Debbie and I am definitely over 50! I just found this thread and have enjoyed reading all the posts. My Aptil goal is to stay within my calorie limits every day but I struggle with binging some days. I started this journey 4 weeks ago and have lost 3.5 pounds so far7

Ginger--I am so sorry to hear about your dad. I don't care how old we get or our parents we are not ready to say Good bye. Sending hugs and prayers.
KJ--How exciting for the kids to have a speical someone come share the walk. You do such a good job and keep things from being boring.
Margaret--I feel it is very well written. It is not attacking anyone. I hope they make some changes.
Kate UK--Great job on the sock. I like the colors.
Terri--Happy Birthday.
Heather--Train ride to Easter eggs hunt sounds fun.

Thank you for your feedback.3 -
My oldest daughter (she's a CPA) now that tax season is over is treating herself and her oldest daughter with a nice trip. They are currently in NYC for a couple of days before heading on to Rome. Their hotel is directly across from The Rockefellar center. Tonight the will see a Broadway Play and explore some museums tomorrow. Here's one of the pictures she sent me this morning.
