Morning, afternoon and evening, all,
Lenora, I have no words... I'm sorry you've had such a tough time!
Machka, sorry you're not feeling so well.
Margaret, your letter was amazing and calm, probably more than I could do or be in the circumstances. I'm glad your son signed the waiver so you can at least find out how he's doing.
Allie, could you look into getting into being a home health aide? I know these companies are always looking for people, but it does seem to be your calling, to help others.
Home again, home again, jiggety-jig. I'm still struggling with the minor health issues that have been plaguing me, and a conversation with my husband pointed out that my carb cravings of late have me eating much more gluten-heavy products than I have over the last year. Looked up celiac disease--not that I necessarily think I have it, only about 1% of people do--but I do have quite a few of the symptoms, including really annoying mouth ulcers, which I've been dealing with for months. Thinking it may be more gluten sensitivity. Oddly enough, a surgery can often spark the sensitivity. And the treatment for both celiac and sensitivity is... don't eat gluten.
So... come to find out that my year and a half of focusing on protein was, effectively, a gluten-free diet, and may well be why I felt so good physically, as well as losing the weight. It could also be a trigger for gluten sensitivity, as by not eating it for a long space of time, when I started eating it again, my body had a really bad reaction. So... it's worth a shot, removing gluten from my diet for a bit and seeing if my issues subside.
Luckily, coffee does not have gluten. I think I'll have another cup!
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR5 -
Lisa~ yes I probably could but dont really want to do the physical end of it if you know what I mean. I printed out and signed the hospice papers that they need to start the process and will leave it up for the social worker to start the process rolling.. there are alot of things they have the information for that I dont.. I feel it is time.. I want whatever time he has left to be comfortable and peaceful..Doug and Iris are his POA , I have signed paper as medical POA , they are down in Florida and could basically care less about him.. Tom and I have been the ones there for him...I feel as I have been there day in and day out that now is the time..
taking my DGD to my friends house for the afternoon , will be a nice respite , then back to feed DFIL dinner.. last night I just knew... he was even having a hard time getting mashed potatoe's down..
well going to finish my tea, and then go down... wish me luck4 -
lenora healing thoughts coming your way
Margaret wise words and actions. Glad that your son is stabilizing
Machka I’m gonna read that article, great information
Lisa if coffee had gluten—I’d be sunk! Sounds like it’s worth a try to eliminate gluten and see how you feel
Well I’m off to my dc adventure with DD. Taking the bus this am and looking forward to a lot of walking, sightseeing and hugging my kid. Going to be quite warm there, I’m breaking out the shorts and sandals.
NYKAREN5 -
Leonora you sound as if you have been put through it, take care and sending healing thoughts your way.
Allie thinking of you, I hope your DFIL gets settled into the hospice, at least you will know that he will have the best of care.
The weather is lovely here, not sure how long it will last, but enjoying it whilst it is here. Going to take Leah out for a quick walk around the block. We'll take her for her proper walk later this afternoon when it's a bit cooler.
Love to all

I just spoke to Tom ,he is upset ,not with me but because of all that is going on,he is scared to lose his dad ,he doesnt understand why they aren't doing more for him and doesnt understand hospice care..so he is a mess..
If I didnt do what I have been doing ,or taking the actions I have who knows where we would be...5 -
Allie ~ So sorry for the sad time you and Tom are going through. Prayers for you both as this process goes forth.
Lenora ~ Glad to see you posting.
Lisa ~ Sounds like you need to stay on the high protein low carb diet.
Margaret ~ Hugs for you and your son. Is your husband helping you go through this?
Went to my after surgery PT yesterday. They were surprised and pleased at my progress...two days after total knee replacement. No walker and did well with the bending measurements. The pain block wore off during the night on Thursday and I had to take a pain pill. Slept a lot yesterday and last night. Extra strength Tylenol is a blessing.

Carol,
Husband helps in the best way he can. He still in some ways does not understand this illness. He is one if he reads a book about it he thinks he knows what should be done. The hardest part was he did not understand why I would buy our son a home to live in. He was not supportive of that and I found that added to the stress to the process. He did not understand how sober housing and other remedial care housing was making it more difficult for our son to stay stable. He had been stable for 7 months. Before the home he was stable four months at best.
I will work to see he feels safe in his home again after what happened to him there. If he feels he cannot live there the police win. Then will rob him of his home. Again that is why even despite what happened I am proud of him for fighting back. He was defending his home. He did get the charges for resisting arrest dropped. This is thanks to many people working behind the scenes. I think my witnessing what happened also played a part.
DH also helps by making dinner. He goes down to visit our son. I could not help our son financially in the way he needs it without how well husband has done with our finances. So yes I very much appreciate the help he does give. He has had his own struggle with cancer during our son's struggle. Again that is why I say if you find yourself in a care giving role it is more difficult to offer the help you would like to give if you are struggling with your own health issues.
That is what I love so much about this site. We not only share our struggles but our success stories of what we are doing to keep ourselves well.Margaret

Hi all! Slept better, but still have horrible sinus ache and feel decidedly under par.
Fed up with this. The sun is shining, it is 78+° and I don't want to do anything.
This morning I had fancied a Parkrun, (how did you get on, Kate?) but knew my time would be awful, so I didn't go. Instead I went out before the heat built up and tottered round a 6.5k curcuit at a very slow speed. I met the last finishers at the Parkrun, who would be with me if I were doing it. It was nice to be out, but I missed my normal exercises, so I'm behind on burn. I will go and do some rowing if I can find a decent programme to watch on stream.
DH watching his sports in his study. I think he is as fed up with me being miserable as I am.
Tonight is baked skate with black butter and capers, with roasted cauliflower.
I love your dignity, Margaret.
Allie - You are definitely doing the right thing. Death comes to all of us and you have done your very best to give him a quality of life. You have been his angel.
Janetr - what fun to be going out on the town!DH and I absolutely loved NYC when we were there. Your daughter and granddaughter look so excited! A great idea to give themselves a treat.
Going to be even hotter tomorrow. I'll wear a light, long sleeved shirt and summer floaty pants. Big hat. Must remember to take water and a protein bar in case we are late back. We are being picked up at 9.50 to get on the steam train at 10.45. It stops at several stations for the kids to have an Easter Egg hunt. As we normally eat lunch early I think I might be getting hungry!
I hate bank holidays. Especially hot ones. I feel like a fish out of water.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx

HEATHER I knocked another 2 mins off my time. Still takes me 42 mins, can't run all the way have to stop and walk part of it. It was hot but I enjoyed it. Probably undo the good work tomorrow drinkwith DH and then usually get the munchies afterwards.

Ginger, (((hugs))) your father's downward turn is a fact that is VERY hard to face. Please don't neglect your self care during this stressful time.
Kate, beautiful sock! Looking forward to a pic of its mate and pair of siblings-in-progress.
Margaret zumba and singing, what healing activities! Your earnest intent for improvement-not-revenge shines through your letter. Two suggestions: 1-as Machka has advised in the past, read it out loud to yourself and 2-as Katla implied, somehow highlight focus on the main points. Likely the Chief of Police is a man. In my experience, anything over 3 bullet points flies right past them, so put your most important points first, in short, clear phrases. You can put the supporting details after, they might sink in on re-reading ;}
Janetr oh no! Please keep the pics of your beautiful near-falling-apples coming!
Rori your trip sounds just right, and your cat's Platinum level made me laugh!
Allie, sounds like you're hearing your calling. Good hunting! Know you've done so much for your DFIL that its extra hard to realize its time to start letting go. ((hugs))
Leonora, so glad to hear from you. Please take it slow when walking or changing positions. We have an invisible stealth dog who reappears magically just under where my foot is coming down. Those falls are NOT FUN
Ginnytex sounds like your life is pretty full too!
Machka that Tasmania climate twin map made me smile, but I'd probably kill myself trying to go down your front yard stairs.
Lisa thank goodness for gluten free caffeine!
Carol Brava for all your hard work. It's not easy to surprise and please PTs, but you (and Lisa) have done so!
Heather "The sun is shining, it is 78+° and I don't want to do anything." yet you got up early and tottered around a 6.5K circuit. Well done!
Welcome Debbie from TX and Brittany!
Alas, poor Totoro tree! The huge, perfectly pyramidical, Port Orford Cedar we love, is dying from the dread root rot. The estimates for taking it down where startlingly different, $1500 from the arborist, $400 from the local guy who took out our tan oaks. SMH!
Not raining so will try to get out into the yard, but if it's too windy, will work on firehouse minutes.
Lighter, lovelies!Barbara, the

Heather thank you!
Barbara yes thank you for reminder about bullet points. He is currently a man. I also plan to send the same letter to head of mental health unit . He too is a man. I did learn I need to send them by certified mail.
I did talk to a woman who is in the mental health unit and I could tell she did not get it within talking to her briefly. She focused on all the things our son was doing wrong and did not believe he was making strides. She was starting to list all the appointments he missed and when I asked about the she suddenly had to go look them up on her computer. When I told her it is hard to make appointments when you were in the hospital 3 times last year and you are in there 3 to 4 weeks at a time. She was adamant he was an adult and should be more proactive in his care. Father forgive them they know not what they say.
Barbara Sorry for the loss of your tree. They just took down all the Ash trees a couple of blocks over. They did this to our block about 5 years ago. It is hard to see.Margaret

Kate - that is an amazing time. Much better than anything I can manage and you are in a higher age band than me. What is your percentage for your age? I am 48.5%. Sounds like you are doing brilliantly!
Ate too much Easter Bunny tonight, the one that was crushed in the post! ! ! Delicious! Still coming in under maintenance calories by a squeak.
My son rang to tell me to bring a picnic for DH and me tomorrow. Exactly what I was thinking, so I'm glad he thought to inform me. Feel slightly miffed that they couldn't make enough for us too, but with three kids I'm sure they have enough to do. I should have offered myself, but I wasn't sure what they were planning. I had half a mind for fish and chips when we got back. Anyway, glad it's sorted out.
Sneezed out loads of horrible gunge this pm after steaming (TMI) and I feel a bit better. Can breathe. Still aching a bit.
We will get up early tomorrow to do as much exercising as possible before leaving. Set the alarm.

So--there was a mulberry bush at my back fence line in front of the lilacs that has bothered me for a couple of years. While I was putting up with bad hips, and then recovering from having them both replaced (one in 2016, the other in 2018), I just kept looking at it. This afternoon I went out with my little saw and now the 8 foot bush is gone. Took a little time, arm muscles a little sore. Don't know what it may have burnt in calories, but in sense of accomplishment it was huge! Son is going to work on removing stump tomorrow. Not bad for a 64 year old lady. Credit the 6 lbs lost recently and increased exercise the last 6 weeks with giving me the energy I needed. There are all sorts of benefits to this program, but my main goal is to be in shape so I can handle things around my house.
