Hi all! Slept better, but still have horrible sinus ache and feel decidedly under par. :s
Fed up with this. The sun is shining, it is 78+° and I don't want to do anything.

This morning I had fancied a Parkrun, (how did you get on, Kate?) but knew my time would be awful, so I didn't go. Instead I went out before the heat built up and tottered round a 6.5k curcuit at a very slow speed. I met the last finishers at the Parkrun, who would be with me if I were doing it. It was nice to be out, but I missed my normal exercises, so I'm behind on burn. I will go and do some rowing if I can find a decent programme to watch on stream.
DH watching his sports in his study. I think he is as fed up with me being miserable as I am. :'(

Tonight is baked skate with black butter and capers, with roasted cauliflower.

I love your dignity, Margaret. <3

Allie - You are definitely doing the right thing. Death comes to all of us and you have done your very best to give him a quality of life. You have been his angel.

Janetr - what fun to be going out on the town! :D DH and I absolutely loved NYC when we were there. Your daughter and granddaughter look so excited! A great idea to give themselves a treat.

Going to be even hotter tomorrow. I'll wear a light, long sleeved shirt and summer floaty pants. Big hat. Must remember to take water and a protein bar in case we are late back. We are being picked up at 9.50 to get on the steam train at 10.45. It stops at several stations for the kids to have an Easter Egg hunt. As we normally eat lunch early I think I might be getting hungry!

I hate bank holidays. Especially hot ones. I feel like a fish out of water.

    Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx

HEATHER I knocked another 2 mins off my time. Still takes me 42 mins, can't run all the way have to stop and walk part of it. It was hot but I enjoyed it. Probably undo the good work tomorrow drinkwith DH and then usually get the munchies afterwards.

    Heather thank you!

Barbara yes thank you for reminder about bullet points. He is currently a man. I also plan to send the same letter to head of mental health unit . He too is a man. I did learn I need to send them by certified mail.

I did talk to a woman who is in the mental health unit and I could tell she did not get it within talking to her briefly. She focused on all the things our son was doing wrong and did not believe he was making strides. She was starting to list all the appointments he missed and when I asked about the she suddenly had to go look them up on her computer. When I told her it is hard to make appointments when you were in the hospital 3 times last year and you are in there 3 to 4 weeks at a time. She was adamant he was an adult and should be more proactive in his care. Father forgive them they know not what they say.

Barbara Sorry for the loss of your tree. They just took down all the Ash trees a couple of blocks over. They did this to our block about 5 years ago. It is hard to see.

    Margaret

Kate - that is an amazing time. Much better than anything I can manage and you are in a higher age band than me. What is your percentage for your age? I am 48.5%. Sounds like you are doing brilliantly!

Ate too much Easter Bunny tonight, the one that was crushed in the post! ! ! Delicious! Still coming in under maintenance calories by a squeak.

My son rang to tell me to bring a picnic for DH and me tomorrow. Exactly what I was thinking, so I'm glad he thought to inform me. Feel slightly miffed that they couldn't make enough for us too, but with three kids I'm sure they have enough to do. I should have offered myself, but I wasn't sure what they were planning. I had half a mind for fish and chips when we got back. Anyway, glad it's sorted out.

Sneezed out loads of horrible gunge this pm after steaming (TMI) and I feel a bit better. Can breathe. Still aching a bit.
We will get up early tomorrow to do as much exercising as possible before leaving. Set the alarm.

    Love Heather UK xxxxxxx

Allie ~ So sorry for the sad time you and Tom are going through. Prayers for you both as this process goes forth.

Lenora ~ Glad to see you posting.

Lisa ~ Sounds like you need to stay on the high protein low carb diet.

Margaret ~ Hugs for you and your son. Is your husband helping you go through this?

Went to my after surgery PT yesterday. They were surprised and pleased at my progress...two days after total knee replacement. No walker and did well with the bending measurements. The pain block wore off during the night on Thursday and I had to take a pain pill. Slept a lot yesterday and last night. Extra strength Tylenol is a blessing.

Carol you are doing amazing, you go girl. At this rate you'll be ready to have the other done in no time at all. Good job.

    Margaret zumba and singing, what healing activities! Your earnest intent for improvement-not-revenge shines through your letter. Two suggestions: 1-as Machka has advised in the past, read it out loud to yourself and 2-as Katla implied, somehow highlight focus on the main points. Likely the Chief of Police is a man. In my experience, anything over 3 bullet points flies right past them, so put your most important points first, in short, clear phrases. You can put the supporting details after, they might sink in on re-reading ;}

    I agree.

Personally, I would set it up as follows:

Short intro explaining who you are in relation to the person in question. Brief intro to your son.

Then something like, "I would like to present the following 3 points".

    1. How things should have gone, ideally.
    2. What actually happened from your perspective.
    3. Differences between the ideal and what actually happened.

Then start with point 1 and, in point form, say how things should have gone.
Then point 2 ... also in point form.
Then point 3 ... also in point form, and this is where you can mention things like the inappropriate time of day (son was sleeping), inappropriate involvement of the police (should have just stood by and let others handle it until things got out of hand), and use of taser and it's affect on a person like your son. If you've got a well-written, fairly scholarly article you've found online about that, you can include a link.

And finally a conclusion that mentions the new directive of the department to approach things less aggressively and your hope that they can use this as an example of where things could have gone better.

That's just a rough sketch of a possible way to approach it.
You don't have to make paragraphs, point form is fine - it is easier to read and easier for you to lay the details out.

You can use your first draft of the letter, and all the "and furthermores" you've written since. :)

I offer this as a suggestion after having written numerous emails in all sorts of different formats and having discovered that this sort of format is the one that tends to get read and responded to most frequently.

Margaret: Machka provided a good outline and you’ve got the details. My comments are as follows:

Intro: short and to the point. “I am X. My son Y was arrested on date, case or arrest file #.

Before presenting your case, tell them why you are writing. “I am unsatisfied because .... and want ....” Make this strong, it is your thesis/issue. Keep this in your mind, front and center, as you write each para. (I post it on my wall to keep me focussed while writing).

Present your case as Machka outlined. Bullets, or succinct paragraphs. Refrain from unnecessary details, each point should be evidence for your thesis.

Conclusion: what you want them to do and how you want them to respond to your complaint.

cc’s: Mental Health Unit, Mayor? Governor? (The chief’s boss.), Police Ombudsman (if you have), any other person or org you think would be interested and could assist in this matter.

When you’re close to finishing your draft, have someone read it that doesn’t know your case. That is your test to make sure your letter is clear.

Finally, I would avoid sending by email. Too easy for them to say they didn’t get it. Courier or registered. You’ll have proof they received.

Good Luck! If we all speak up when injustices occur we can make things better. That’s what being an advocate for your son is all about, you are the voice for someone who can’t speak for himself.

HEATHER My age grade is 54.82, not too sure what that means.

DH has just presented me with an Easter card and a chocolate egg, he says its a healthy one because its got nuts in bless him :/ its got 549 cals per 100g and weighs 385g do the math. I love him to bits but sometimes ggggr The question is how long can I resist temptation to open it, I have no will power when it comes to chocolate.

Another gorgeous day here will wear summery clothes to go out

Happy Easter to those of you who celebrate!

Margaret - lots of good suggestions here. The only thing I'd add (and perhaps someone has already mentioned) is to close with something like, "I look forward to working with you on how to best handle future situations like this to assure both patient and officer safety. I can be reached at 555-XXX-XXXX."

    Lenora
    - wow, girlfriend. Take care!!!

Kay - before I forget, great rug, really pulls the room together!

    Allie
    - sorry to hear about your time off hours. Did anyone at the meeting say that this was less than he first proposed? If not, might be worth mentioning to him. I'm the type that would put him on the spot and ask (nicely) why the change? Glad to hear your DFIL is in hospice. Maybe Tom needs to get his rear back home B)

Barbie - Heather - Kate and all of you other walkers and runners: Keep it up, you are so inspirational!!

    Carol
    - so very proud of you with that new knee!!! Off to a great start!!!

So I went to get fitted for my orthotics on Thursday and looks like running and jumping is out for me, possibly forever. Fact is, when I injured my foot I kept up with the running in place, jumping jacks, walking/running when I should have stopped, iced it, elevated it and babied it like a person would do with a sprained ankle. Sigh.

He recommends "rocker" shoes like Hoka One and some others which have relatively stiff soles that don't bend at the ball of the foot area. He wasn't keen on my "Keen" shoes even though the podiatrist said OK. I'm not going to toss them.

He recommended "Oofas" for slippers to wear around in the house before putting on shoes. Ordered from Zappos and should arrive Wednesday.

Orthotics will be ready in a couple weeks.

Yesterday was work outside day, and it was nice to get many things accomplished.

That's the quick and dirty, lol. Welcome new ladies!
