I was a slug yesterday and couldn't get myself to go out and work in the yard. Today is beautiful again and I am determined to put in at least an hour cleaning up weeds and enjoying the sunshine.
To all of you who celebrate Easter, I hope this is a day of significance for you and you are able to observe it in a way that is meaningful.
To all of you who celebrate Passover, I hope this is the beginning of a meaningful celebration and a week of significance.
And to those who are not celebrating a holiday, I hope this a great day with a balance of accomplishment and rest.

(((Machka))): It seems that you have a fall cold. Drink plenty of liquids and rest as much as you can. Peter Rabbit’s mom recommends chamomile tea. I prefer peppermint tea when I have a cold. I hope you feel better soon. :ohwell:
Beadowl: I like your advice to Margaret about sending a registered letter with return notification. Proof that the letter was delivered may turn out to be important.
Barbara: We live in a townhouse community and I have very little dirt to play with, but I sure enjoy planting in the beds beside my home and get the most out of it that I can. Next will be bean planting.
Lanette: I am sorry you’re having foot problems. Rockers would be off my island because of knee issues. I hope you are able to find shoes that are comfortable and support your ankles, knees, hips and back in such a way that you can be active and enjoy life without pain.
Betsy in NW WA: Enjoy walking Ella and have a good day. :flowerforyou:
Happy Easter Sunday to all who celebrate. :flowerforyou:

Back from the steam train expedition.
It was the most beautiful day, almost too hot, and all went well. The kids got a bit fractious by the end, but we had a great picnic and the journey up and down the line went smoothly. We found good seats in the old carriages that took me back to my youth. Nostalgia is a bit lost on the little ones, but they enjoyed the tunnel and the puffing of the engine and the whistles.
Just a couple of pics, my son has better ones of our group.
These are the lovely old wooden carriages.
And this is the engine.
They dropped us off at home and I fell asleep for an hour on the sofa. Still bunged up and miserable.
There was a puzzle trail for the kids, with tasks and stamps which you exchanged for a lucky dip. They chose a cuddly toy each. You can see Bea wearing her snake in the first pic. Better than more chocolate!
Glad I managed it.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx

Heather: I love the old train. We have one that is seasonally active at the Oregon coast and I hope to take a ride on it in the near future. Our weather is not as sunny and warm as yours thus far.3

Barbara - my Grandson is 7 and the games have him truly hooked right now it’s rather appropriate. I also bought him a sketch book and some pencil crayons though as he likes to plans and draw things out. He writes scenes for movies he wants to make and blueprints for box forts.
Kate - I would die of shock of my husband ever thought about buying me a treat. I would have to savour every bite of it.
Lanette - sometimes we are our own worse enemy, we don’t take breaks when we should and try to push through. I hope the doctor is wrong and you get back to doing all you want to do.
Heather - that looks like a lovely morning, so sorry you aren’t feeling 100%.
I haven’t got a lot to say, I will be watching the Grands this afternoon while their Mom is at work and then everyone will be here for supper tonight. I’m not do a big turkey or ham dinner just a small roast beef and some ham steaks. It’s the people gathering that I enjoy most.
Happy Easter

For anyone looking to build new habits, I highly recommend that you read "Better Than Before" by Gretchen Rubin3

well I went this morning and fed DFIL, got a bit of oatmeal in and 2 ice creams and some root beer, this afternoon it was 1 ice cream and a lemon meringue jello pudding, and that was that..
I am taking the night off from going down so I can spend time with friends, sort of need a break and Alfie is going with me..
did laundry washed and dried..
and I feel good that I made the decision for my DFIL, you just know when its time.....
like I said last night in retrospect we should have done that with Toms mom when she was in the hospital because the month after she made the decision to do what needed to be done was horrible..
I slept horribly last night.. and had to come back and take a nap.. feel a bit better...
could have dinner down at nursing home but glaszed ham , mac and cheese and roasted potatoes not on KETO..6 -
Having a lovely time with DD, Rachel in DC. Walked 7 miles today and am resting now. Gorgeous weather, vibrant greens and a few cherry blossoms remain though the peak was at least a week ago. Tonight her friends are coming over and I will roast salmon and asparagus for all of us. They will watch Game of Thrones and I will get to bed early. Tomorrow rachel will take me on a personal Capitol tour and we are visiting the floor of the House of Representatives. Will probably put in another 7 miles on the Keen walking shoes—I love ‘em.

To those who celebrate Passover. Happy Passover!4 -
Had a good Sunday--celebrated Easter at Church (Happy Passover to those who celebrate that!). Son and I had late lunch, very simple, ham, baked sweet potatoes, green beans. It was nice not doing the crazy all-out cooking.
Son helped with a couple more tree stumps along fence line (with his strength, he can just do some of that stuff quicker than I). He was impressed at what old mom did by herself. Got to FaceTime with kids in Phoenix-nice to have everyone chatting together.
Got treadmill in for 30 minutes before church. After son left, took a 45 minute walk outside. It was nice to be outside in the sunshine. Hopefully spring is really going to settle in. Ending up with around 13,500 steps for the day. Have been doing a good job at getting over 10,000 a day for the last few weeks. Making a difference in toning.
Really enjoy the sharing in this group--everyone at different stages.
Hope everyone has a good finish to their day (or beginning depending on where you are!). Let's all have a successful week.

Did an advanced strength DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do some training games on the Wii
Lenora – so sorry you fell so many times, you’ve sure been thru the wringer. You take care, ya hear?
When we do something at ceramics, we usually keep the paper with the colors we used. Well, it got to be so many papers that I finally wrote down the things I made on these sheets that are in the book where we keep the papers. Then went to JCPenney to get an air fryer for Denise. It’s a Cook, $200 on sale for $70. Of course, the store didn’t have any so I ordered it and will have it shipped to the store (free shipping). It should be here the end of April or early May. I should get it in time to take it to Denise. And if not, Vince can get it and bring it up when he comes up.
This afternoon we’re supposed to go to friend’s of ours house. She’s from Poland so I made some pierogi to take with me. Then we pick Jess up at the airport. She called last night around midnight, couldn’t seem to get checked in. Probably because American changed the flight number.
Had a stroke of good luck. See, I got some Krispy Kreme donuts for tomorrow since I’m not sure what Jess and Colby (if he’s here) will have. Well, they had this coupon for a free donut. In the past when I get donuts on sale I was able to get the free donut. Well, the girl (who I don’t think knew what she was talking about) said that in order to get the free donut, I would have to buy another dozen (around $9-10) to get it. Not worth it! So I didn’t get it. I was going to get a glazed donut (who can resist getting something for free) but didn’t. So it really worked out for the best.
Happy Easter to all who celebrate!
Sunday here: Did some training games on the Wii. The plan for tomorrow is to do one segment of the AM Yoga DVD then take the extremepump class.
Sonja – welcome and happy birthday
Tracey – I’m so sorry to hear of your tumble. Glad it wasn’t something more.
M – chicken soup works wonders
Voices and Elaine – welcome! I’m so sorry about your brother, Voices. So glad you joined us
Welcome everyone new that I may have missed
Went to church this morning and Vince started to get the dry sweats. He went outside and felt a little better, but we left early, he came home and I had to go to Food Lion. He laid down and felt better. Had to get strawberries for the pavlova (I totally forgot to get them), some soda for the ham. Had ham, mashed potatoes for Vince, corn for Vince and Jess, some kielbasa for me from yesterday, Jess made these biscuits shaped like bunnies, and mac and cheese from scratch for Jess. Probably tasted a bit different since it was from scratch. Then had a pavlova for dessert (Colby liked that) and a chocolate truffle thing for dessert. Full now, cleaned the kitchen, now here. Called Denise but it went to voice mail.
Well, need to get up early tomorrow to go to WalMart to get candy for Vince on sale ½ price.

Up again ... for a little while. Voice is partially gone and I feel like I've ridden a 600K.
If possible, I'd like to be able to be able to get out for a short walk, but we'll see.
@cityjaneLondon ... how long has yours been going on? If it is over 2 weeks, you might consider getting checked for a sinus infection.
@grandmallie ... funny, mac and cheese is what I'm hungry for and what I've been eating lately.

KJ - Joaquim Your daughter is an excellent photographer. I adore his dark eyes.
Slept, slept, slept yesterday. After the train I had an hour on the sofa, then another ten minutes a bit later, then kept dozing off all evening. Went to bed and slept most of the night, apart from my open, dry mouth waking me up. This morning I can breathe through one nostril. Hoping I've turned the corner.
Going to have Spaghetti Putanesca tonight. Haven't had it for a couple of years. Will probably use up the cabbage as a veg, but it's not ideal. Could make the cabbage into a salad. DH likes a veg with all his meals, even when I think it doesn't go with it. It's a healthy habit, but sometimes annoying.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx who can feel she has put on weight recently.4 -

And then I slept again for 2.5 hours. Dead tired. I might see if I've got the energy to take a shower now.

I hope you've turned a corner too! I couldn't last more than a day unable to breathe through my nose. It would drive me insane. The last couple days, I've been down to one nostril and that's bad enough.
Really, if you aren't feeling any better in about 24 hours, go to your Dr. I used to get the worst sinus infections when I worked with kids.

Made it to Las Vegas yesterday with daughter and son in law and their 3 little ones. I have never been here before but they needed help with the babies. I held one of the 4 mo old twins on the plane. Luckily only a 2.5 hr flight. Babies did very well. Lots of walking through the airport. Daughter says we are walking much more today. I think they are trying to kill me!! Bring on the pool

Morning, afternoon and evening, all...
KJ - Joaquin looks like such a happy little person. He'll grow up to be an incredibly beautiful man. My husband objects to the word, when used for men, but some are. So there.
Heather, Machka - hope you're both turning the corner toward being well.
Stayed away from gluten and sugar the last three days, and while it hasn't done much for how I feel yet, I've dropped three pounds, unexpected benefit, but welcome. I swear, I'm going to start naming each pound--they're like relatives you don't like very much that come and stay too long, and that you're glad to see leave. Hopefully this time they won't come back!
Friday's presentation in Little Rock went well, and the meeting afterward was fruitful. Brainstormed with a couple of my C-level folks an idea for moving forward in the long game with a funder who we've been trying to develop ties to, and something concrete that I can put together to forward that relationship. Also found out that another funder awarded us a bit more than we expected--we expected they'd drop by ten percent, and they only dropped by five percent, which in this business is a win.
It was a productive weekend, too, including the usual mowing and trimming of the acreage around the house. There was a hummock of ground in the back yard that was too steep to take the riding mower over. So, my husband pulled out the rotor-tiller (FAR too heavy for me to handle) and tilled it up for me, and we planted the 65 gladiolus bulbs that I bought on a whim right there... Those should make a nice bright spot of summer blooms, and be visible from the kitchen window.
We also stopped on the way home from grocery shopping at a new plant farm. I bought three coleus, one of my favorite decorative plants. Got those planted in a spot at the front of the house. He also got replacement tomato plants and jalapenos, as the last frost killed his.
And yesterday, we were able to take a lovely drive up country to Devil's Den National Park. It's only about a half hour from our house, but we took the long way around going up. Love the Ozarks--these winding mountain roads are so satisfying--the redbuds are just starting to fade, and the dogwoods are in full bloom. They both grow wild here, and are around every corner, tucked into every forest, and it's all forest!
Welcome to the new ones, we're glad you're here! Stay, chat, ask questions or answer them, we're happy to have you with us.
Love y'all,

I slept like a rock last night I needed it..will talk to my boss today about vacation time and my hours... im like a pawn at this job and,im back working every Saterday again..until he hires someone else..
these next few weeks are going to be tough going as I juggle the plates on poles.. trying to be there for my DFIL and working 5 days a week..I will do my best to work both gracefully ..
had a lovely time at Bev's yesterday afternoon, had a nice simple fish dinner and good company...will go down for breakfast and dinner.. weds I have off, so will be the first over to get blood work done again for kidney Dr. and then see what is needed ..
Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter and Passover2 -
kelly that pic of Joaquin , he looks more like a little boy than a toddler, tooooo quick!!
Well the roasted salmon and veg with brown rice and carmelized shallots was a big hit! 2 of our guests were gluten free so the menu worked beautifully. As an introvert this takes a lot out of me but I can also see how it is good for me also, I stretch a little and I do like cooking for a crowd, I rarely get to do that I My kid is over the moon happy surrounded by people and I love seeing that.
Another 8-10 mile day of walking ahead for me, better get the second cup of coffee going.

Good morning all! Happy Monday! Happy Earth Day! Today/this week, our daycare activities will focus on recycling and conservation. The kids are already pretty well versed on recycling plastics, glass, etc.; but we will talk about water and electricity usage/conservation, finding uses for things we might otherwise throw out, using sustainable bags/dishes for storage rather than plastic disposable baggies...I picked up the movie Wall-E at the library, for them to watch during rest time one day. I adore that movie. Yes, the little robots are cute; but so much of it resonates. Humans having to leave Earth because they have discarded so much stuff and dumped and polluted the planet that it makes it impossible to sustain life. The remaining humans decide to live on a very, VERY large space ship and leave Earth in the care of robots who are to clean up the planet. Well, anyway, there are so many similarities between where those humans are (lifestyle-wise) and where we (humans as a whole) are currently. The humans on the ship consume all of their meals in "shake" form. They have screens in front of them constantly and speak to eachother only through the screen, they have chairs/beds that carry them everywhere meaning their muscles have atrophied to the point of uselessness. lol Boy! Writing that out, it sounds like a awful movie, but it is wonderfully done and leaves a good message for the kids about stewardship of our planet.
I made our Easter dinner yesterday. Holidays are getting trickier and trickier with Lauren and her little family in Texas, and our two boys sometimes working and/or making plans with their girlfriend's families. Now with Tim's mom gone; holidays are very, very quiet and small. Yesterday for dinner was just Colin and I. Tim was not feeling well and was sleeping. I talked to Colin about maybe having a big community potluck next year and opening it up to the community (people who had no family to spend the day with, but still wanted to celebrate with a meal with others). I am going to look into that for upcoming holidays.
The pic of Joaquin that I posted last night was taken by my daughter after they had returned from Easter Mass and Joaquin had been playing with chalk in the driveway. He is obsessed right now with art supplies. Chalk, paint, markers, etc. I am so glad Tim and I got him an art desk/easel for Christmas this past year. For the first couple of months he just sat at it and looked at his books, but I have encouraged Lauren to give him some art stuff and let him experiment. I am so excited to have him here for a week this summer! I have set aside a few toys and craft supplies especially for him and am looking forward to lots of outdoor/lake time with him.
Heather- Love the pics and the train outing sounds like it was really fun! That Bea! With her snake, hat and sunglasses. lol ADorable! I hope the rest you got when you got home has helped you turn the corner on this cold. I am with Machka; you have had this so long! IF it continues maybe go see the doc. I can't stand not being able to breathe freely. I live on Mucinex nose spray when I am stuffy.
Machka- You, too, missy!^ Ditto what I said to Heather in regards to the cold! Hope you are on the mend. I love the photos you have been sharing. It seems every place you walk to or through is very beautiful and picturesque! Lucky you!
NY Karen- Lovely photos! Your DC trip must be going well! I love the Einstein sculpture.
Lisa- Coleus! So pretty! I just recently found out what that plant is when I visited my sister in New Port Richey, FL. Coleus is EVERYWHERE! Every one seems to have it in their landscaping! Very eye catching.
Well, the kiddos have arrived and are hungry! I better scoot and get breakfast for them. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)2
