There was a discount on next years event if we signed up within 24 hours - so I did! I have a 10k in August then the half next year. Advise me knowledgable people - do I keep doing long runs, or do I lay off for a while?
I’m in the same boat, having run a half on Saturday. I plan to take things quietly for a couple of weeks - I ran 5k on Sunday, rested yesterday, and have done 4k today (so much harder than Sunday!). My long runs will be chopped from 18k down to 12k, and my shorter runs will be slower until my muscles forgive me for making them work so hard. Lots of yoga and Pilates too to facilitate recovery.5 -

I was pretty sure I hadn't ordered any pictures but it ends up we get ALL the pictures for FREE, well part of our HM registration! They even provided a select few in 'Social Media resolution'. How cool is that!?!
Excellent! I just saw photos from my race this past weekend. Not all are tagged yet, but I can buy 1 download for $34.95 or downloads for all my photos for $99.99. That is the highest price I have seen for race photos yet!
We have two main companies that photograph events here, one charges exorbitant prices ($16 per photo but the low res proof with watermark means you can’t tell if they’re any good before you pay), while the other crowd does ‘pay what it’s worth’ and you could pay 5 cents if you wanted (their default is $10). I only ever buy from PWIW, and usually get everything and pay $25 (realistically, I only want one, but I want the best one).
From a business perspective, they’d certainly sell a lot more photos with PWIW, even though the price per photo is lower, and considering most of the expense is incurred whether they sell them or not, it’s probably a better model.2 -

Stumbled across this today and will join late if that's ok!
I completed a sprint tri a few weeks ago and have sat on my *kitten* for 2 weeks eating cake ever since. So in a bid to not let my training go to waste and kick a few pounds before a wedding in June, yesterday I decided to start 30 days of running! 30 days, 30 runs, any distance.
Has anyone done this and got any tips?
Here's my totals so far:
5/11- 3.1 miles
5/12 - 3.53 miles
Total: 6.63 miles
Skip the wedding. Marriage is overrated. 😧🤭😀
Ok for reals. We do engage in food talk here (mostly pizza and pie), and we’ll gladly support your goal. We do have a side thread that is dedicated to helping us stay ion track with our personal food goals. You are welcome to join us there too. (I’ll come back to add the link). No particular rules, just a way to find support and lean on one another.
Did you or anyone request to join the Strava group? I declined it. Trying to keep the group honestly mfp runners. If so, send another request, might post here that you requested to join so I don’t feel all grumpy about letting just anyone in.
@Eddie_Ice welcome to the group! Best of luck attaining that sub 2 hm goal, I have the same goal.
Wish me luck all, I’m off to the pool (Y and weights sans right leg). Like I mentioned, I’m feeling especially grumpy today. Dh took me to lunch, i don’t like people. Today is a bad people day. So many people. And they dress wieerd.
Haha it's not my wedding, I agree overrated! It's a friend's 😊
Ohh, trying to look hotter than the bride, I see. Hahaha! I’m kidding (injured runner with nothing to do but give real runners a hard time).

Y’all. I’m changing my diet. Well dog gone, I bet @tess453 got this started in my head. (Resend that Strava request. Or I’ll try to invite you). Anyone doing more plants? Think I’m gonna kick most/all of the animal products to the curb. I did have lots of cheese today, but now that all the baby Swiss is gone.... It’ll be hard here, we live in the fast food capital of Oklahoma. Anyone have recipes to share? I still can’t do soy and as much as I love tabouleh, it doesn’t love me. @PastorVincent I’m wondering if eliminating animal products will change my intolerance for FODMAP’s. Any thoughts?
I do not know, but I doubt it. The reason you can not tolerate FODMAP, or at least what they THINK is the reason, is a lack of the proper gut bacteria to handle them. So I do not see how going vegan/vegetarian would impact that. Most of the FODMAP stuff is in PLANTS after all.
I do not know, I am just guessing based on reading up on various web sites and really it seems like all this FODMAP is still very new so as with all new science it could change drastically in the next few years.
Oooooo! So YES! you can change your microbiota with food! Ohh I’m excited. I’ll probably never be able to do the soy, seems to be a protein thing, but the other foods I’m looking forward too!
Google poo transplants. If ya want...
Poo is at the wrong end of the intestine track for this issue.
They have been experimenting with various means of addressing this, and "poo transplants" was one way. So far they have not found anything that worked well, but like I said this is all very very new so nothing is definite yet. Medical testing and trials take a long time. Some people do report taking enzymes with the food helps reduce symptoms, but others say it id not help at all. *shrugs*0 -

Well it’s all connected. Limiting refined foods and adding fruits, veggies and beans can change the gut bacteria. I’d recommend a good probiotic and perhaps some kombucha or other such fermented foods, kraut, pickles, miso, etc.0 -

Pickles are out, they normally have garlic in them, IME. Garlic is a major issue with FODMAP, one of the worst offenders for fructans (the O in FODMAP) there is. Dunno about the rest of those foods you list... but I see no reason to suggest you do not try it. I would suggest you get your system in balance first by avoiding the fructans and etc, then experiment. You might find something that works for you.
This, of course, is assuming that the early research suggesting the FODMAP issues are gut bacteria related is correct but it is the best understanding we have currently and it sounds logical to my non-doctor self.1 -

It continues to be rainy and miserable here. I managed to take the dog out this morning in a bit of a break where it was only lightly raining for part of it. But then it has been raining solidly since then and the temps are sticking in the low 40s F. So I was definitely not excited to go to run group tonight. But I also did not want to skip or go to the gym and run on the treadmill, so I did. The workout was 5-6-4 minute intervals with 90 seconds rest between. Then 4 sprints/strides. With the warmup and cooldown it was 3.95 miles for me. We were all soaked to the bone and ready to get out of there.
Tomorrow looks much the same and I am officially completely over it. Whoever lives where it's warm and sunny - I'm coming over.4 -
@katharmonic 84F and mostly sunny here tomorrow. It's been wet, so I expect it'll be humid. Skeeters are horrible too. I bet it's nice in Hawaii.2

Hi everyone - so this is my first post to this board and I pretty new to this MFP, tracking calories, logging meals, research, etc. etc.
So, I’m going to sign up for 75 miles this month. Here’s my progress so far this month:
5/2: 6.5 mile
5/3: 4.3 mile
5/5: 10.0 miles
5/7: 4.3 miles
5/8: 4.3 miles
5/9: 4.3 miles
5/10: 4.3 miles
5/12: 12.3 mile
Total so far: 50.3 miles (wow, I didn’t think it was that much!)
I think I’ll bump my goal to 100! OMG - can i really do 100 miles?? IS this a 31 day month?
I have a flight to San Antonio in the morning, so I’ll have to hit the run about 5:00 AM. UGH10 -
4.7 miles tonight. Very slow as I'm still recovering from Sat. marathon. I also still have some residual issues with the blister between my big toe and 2nd toe on my right foot. I popped it Sat. night and currently have not yet re-grown the skin, so it's pretty sore when running. It also screws up my gait, so I cut short tonight from planned 9 miles and hope to heal quickly.

Did 3.05 miles today. It was a hot mess. It included a dog that I thought was limping half-way through the run, I then called my husband to pick up the dog because I didn't want her to walk too much, and then when my husband met us by the trial said dog proceeded to easily jump into my husband's car. By the time I finished the rest of the run and got home my husband said that the dog was walking around with no limp and he believes that she was faking it to get out of the run. This is not the first time the dog has done something like this, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is true. We will see how she feels tomorrow, but I've decided that regardless of how much she whimpers and whines I am not taking the dog out anymore on runs. I just realized that I sound like a crazy person.

@samthepanda Were all a little differant on what we need for recovery after an event.
10k I am right back at it the next day.
HM. That depends on Elevation Profile and wether it is Trail or Hard Surface ( concrete/pavement)
As a minimum I will get out for a 5k easy run the next day or cross train ( swim/bike etc) as a recovery activity then right back into a routine. I find that if I do nothing I tend to tighten up and then it takes longer to get back in a routine.
Training Cycle question: I find that once I get rid of the Winter Blahs it is easier to stay HM ready than it is to drop to 10k and then retrain for HM. So since you are at HM Ready I would suggest taking the last 3-4 weeks of your HM Training plan and use that as a base /guideline for your future runs- maybe less taper than they call for. Also you might want to try dropping down to a HM Training plan that is for an athlete who has less experience and using the last few weeks of it as a guide line. ie switch from intermediate to novice Hm Training cycle.
Right now I am training for a 20k that has 4 major hills (100-200m vert) in it so a little less distance than a standard HM plan but more elevation training.
Evening Run - 10.5 km and 432m of elevation on the Misery Mtn Trails.
Made some loops around some of the obscure bush trails on the backside of the ski hill. There was some walking due to the grade and obstacles from tree blow downs.
I was originally going to do what we call the NE Rim Trail from my house but a group training for Sinister 7 in the area ran into 2 differant bears ( Momma & 2 cubs Group 1 - 2 Juveniles Group 2 ). Ironically the juveniles are more of a danger as they would have been chased away by their momma in the fall before hibernation and being teenagers they tend to explore more. Momma turned and ran into the trees as soon as she realized there were humans close by - the juvi's started to follow them so they had to break out the bear spray, stand their ground and gave the lead bear a 1/2 sec spray when he was 30-40 ft away - the bears turned and ran away.
05/01 22.00 km - 22.00km -118.00km - YTD 301.90km

Hey guys. I'm still here but just so so anxious/stressed atm. I've gone into limiting mode - so still stress eating, trying to accept it by limiting the amount of stress eating I'm doing. And trying to at least run to balance out the stress. Figured if I can't beat it, limit it?
RE the house sale:The couple who say they are interested keep playing coy and it's frustrating. They say they are interested, then don't actually make an offer, and don't email for a week. Then out of the blue email saying yes we are still interested but again don't do anything concrete. It's just frustrating.
We aren't doing anything differently based on them, we are still signing with an agent, but that's taking a little longer than we anticipated, so should be all signed up on Sunday. Getting professional pics of the house today. Finally got the contract to read today and got the above message. Just. Annoying.
I need to run. Wheres the chocolate. Sigh.
4.5 weeks to go8 -
@Avidkeo you're going through some of the most stressful situations known to modern human. Hang in there, try to remember why you're doing all of this and how much it will make it all worth it when you finally get where you're going.
Running is therapy, chocolate is medicinal. You need and deserve both ;-)
I had already decided this week was going to be a cutback week as I intend to ramp up my mileage more than originally planned over the coming month because I signed up for a 10k I couldn't resist. So this morning was just a 3km easy shake out/recovery run. Of course, following a race on Sunday and a 12 hour day nailed to my desk yesterday my legs and hips tried to tell me they had completely forgotten how to do that running thing for the fist 5 minutes or so. I'm sure I must have looked like the tin man trying to run. But for once I really did get the grip of the slow thing! I did 2 min/30 second run/walk intervals for the first and third kilometres and ran the middle kilometre. Sloooooowly. It was extra amusing because around half way through when I realised I had nailed the slow thing and was feeling awesome and would probably be able to really hold a conversation if I had anyone to talk to. Decided to check that by singing along to my music to see whether I could sing whole verses rather than panting out the odd line, and the song that popped up on my randomly shuffling playlist had me hollering "I'm on top of the world". Yeah, I'm kinda glad I took the route that has a lot of traffic but not many fellow runners or walkers to hear that!
May goal: 55km Run so far: 31.7km9 -

Once you have the agent signed up, pass off all the stress on to them. Tell this "coy" couple to talk to the agent and go for a run.

One of these days I might catch up, possibly, lol.
Over the weekend I did 6 miles for my long run on Sunday. It was very rainy and only around 45°F so the hot shower I took immediately afterwards was amazing.
It has been a very rough start to the week. Yesterday was supposed to be a rest day but I ended up participating in a missing person search for the 18 year old son of a woman who works for my company. There were over 100 people who came out from my company, it was truly heartwarming to see. I don't know her, but I ended up in a small group of 10 who did the difficult hiking portion and my group of 5 actually met her as we were heading out to start searching and it just about broke my heart. 5 of us went south on the trail, and the other 5 went north, and they are the ones who found him (deceased). It was a really difficult day and my thoughts are with his family during this impossible time. I would like to say that I am proud of my company who allowed anyone who wanted to participate to do so, w/out losing any paid time, and who found a company to donate school buses to help transport people to the site, and provided food and water for the searchers. Especially nowadays, it was really lovely to see so many different people come together for a common cause.
So today will now be a rest day, as yesterday ended up being over 3 miles of hiking (over 1/2 off-trail) in rainy, wet conditions, w/almost 1k ft elevation gain, and was my 7th day in a row of exercise.
Please everyone, take the time to hug, or call, or text your loved ones and tell them you love them

@katieJane83 that is amazing that your company supported that search effort. I'm sure it was very emotional and surreal when they found the boy (from your post not clear not sure of his status, but guessing it wasn't great).
Great that you volunteered to help with the search.1 -
Thanks @Scott6255 yeah, sorry for not being clear, I edited. He was found deceased. It was a traumatic day, but it makes me feel good to know that there is obviously a very strong structure of support around here to help the family through this difficult time.10

Hahaha! Dh had a cocker spaniel that faked a limp and whined when she wanted to be babied. We have a pup, half his half my border collie, thankfully she only whines when she wants you to throw the piggy or hot dog.
So funny. Crazy dog. What breed is she? I wanted a running dog, but mine had heart worms and we did a rogue self treatment after the vets plan “killed” one. No heart worms. I think I got lucky and they probably didn’t have them very bad. But, I can’t be sure of remaining heart damage, so I’m reluctant take them out like that. She’d have been a good running pup.0 -
Oh @KatieJane83, how horrible. My thoughts go out to all those affected by his loss.
I was able to take the dogs out this morning to start my "official" training plan for the Half. First run of 3 miles is done! It went really quite well, even with distractions (two cats, another loose dog (oy)... and the squirrel who thought it wise to go toward my house with the peanut while we were coming home).

This morning's run was so nice! The weather was just lovely. I got out just after 6:00 am and it was already starting to get light. It was 58F and no wind. It was one of those days that I felt like I could just run forever! But I have a HM on Saturday and I was only supposed to run 3 miles today, so I turned and headed back home when I got to 1.5 miles. I did end up with 3.4 miles for today, but I tried to stick to the plan. As of right now there is a 100% chance of thunderstorms on Saturday morning. I'm hoping that the weather will change or that at least it won't be too bad. Hopefully the storms won't be too bad and they will go through four or five hours earlier or later than expected. I can handle rain, but if it is stormy that will suck. But I am planning to run unless they cancel the race.
@KatieJane83 How awful that must have been! But it is nice to see that your company was so compassionate and helpful.
@Avidkeo Hang in there!

Partly cloudy; 45 degrees F; and a brisk northwest wind at about 10 to 15 mph. Decided to try to run hard today, and knocked 30 seconds off my 7k training personal best. Guess my back is really healed up.

@avidkeo - Hang in there! Once you are signed with the agent it should be so much easier, at least it is here. Seriously they do all the negotiating with potential buyers and you just have to decide whether or not to accept an offer. Also keep thinking about how nice it will be when you get all moved, where you will be living, your exciting new job and the awesome new running routes to explore!
Oh @KatieJane83 - I am so sorry for the family's loss! I can't imagine losing a child! It really is awesome that your company helped out so much! That is the kind of response that makes employees appreciate their company and want to keep working there. Honestly not too many companies would do that.
@elise4270 - I can't imagine having a border collie that you don't run with, they are all crazy! I always thought Hobbes the Vizsla had so much energy until I had the pleasure of meeting a few border collies 🤣
No run for me today - Strength training in a couple of hours though. Hoping my trainer will help me work the stiffness out of my legs. Even though I walked a lot after the race and before we headed home on Sunday, sitting in a car in traffic for 4.5 hours was probably not the best for my legs to recover. I was able to run with Hobbes a bit last night at agility, more actually than I expected but my legs are still pretty stiff again this morning.8 -

Haha can so relate to this! So I've just got in from a 2 mile run, having cut it short as my collie/spaniel cross looked like he was panting to death. To be fair it's still 20 degrees outside and he's a hairy dude.
Get home, had a quick slurp of water and he's now looking expectant 'come on woman, we going out or what?' 😐
And in case anyone is wondering, a collie spaniel cross is as bonkers as you think. Maybe worse. Think Zeberdee or Tiger.
Any who, my 30 day challenge is ticking along..
5/11- 3.10 miles
5/12 - 3.53 miles
5/13- 2 miles

Thanks @eleanorhawkins @PastorVincent and @shanaber we sign officially Sunday. Hope to get the professional pictures done in the next couple of days - need the weather to cooperate now.
Just got back from a 7k run. Was a beautiful morning, the stars were out. By the time I got to km no 6 it started horizontal rain. Was lovely to run in!5 -

Haha for sure! There are days when Marvin gets me through a run and then there are days where he's just a nuisance.3
