Habits - There was a very interesting podcast regarding habits on NPR on Sunday. For those of you who are interested here is the link.

Thank you Suzi! NPR is great. Love Hidden Brain.
Good luck getting back into the swing of things. I just cleaned my house today after getting all the decorations returned to the attic. It feels great. But yes I'm still struggling with menu planning and running to the grocery store way to often or eating out. I too will be taking this weekend to reset and get back into a grove.4 -
@GodMomKim
I like black licorice! I have a plant in my yard for years called Mexican Marigold. It smells like licorice and the flavor is anise-like.

Lisa - congrats on the new Grandson, what a cutie!
Sharon - you look wonderful and so happy!
Kylia - welcome back! I understand your worry for your daughter. Shortly after my youngest got her licence she took a job (for me) driving up to 6300 miles per month over three provinces in some very remote areas in Winter. I don’t know where my mind was when I offered her that job.
Rebecca - I’m so incredibly happy for you. I understand how your son felt. I have had to make those uncomfortable calls where you had let time go by too long. Mine was with my Grandmother and I was worried about the lecture I would get. I think you handled it brilliantly. Sorry about your pen pal, I agree her loss.
Kim - glad you were able to help your Mom get treatment and that you were able to be there for your nephew. I would not be counted as a friend if it meant I had to like black licorice, glad that’s not how it works. I personally like all the different opinions it means you get a different point of view.
Machka - thanks I hope I can keep up with it. I don’t have any time at work to catch up but am going to try in the evenings to at least say hi. Just won’t be able to comment to everyone most likely.
Karen in NY - love your one day streak.
Allie - I pray you get that new job soon. Your doctor is a terrible employer and you deserve so much better.
SuziQ - you look lovely.
Ginny - so much going around up here too. One of our staff members was sent home today during our meeting because no one wanted to be near her.
I had a root canal yesterday and surprisingly was not in much pain afterward. I go for a filling and the post for a crown on the 21st. I have been petrified of a dentist for years so have a bit to spend to get my teeth on order. They will be done by end of February though I think.
Had 3.5 hours of meetings today, what a long afternoon.
Rodger is down 8lbs since Dec 16, it will be nice to see what his bloodwork is like in March. I’m very proud of him, his commitment is remarkable and is making me get back on track.
We have had a very mild winter so far with temperatures hovering between 0 and -10 Celsius. It is supposed to be -25 by Saturday and I hope it’s not like last year where we were in a polar vertex all February long.
My granddaughter got her ears pierced yesterday for her 4th birthday. It was the only thing she asked for. She had been told it would hurt but she said that was ok. On Sunday she told me she was a “ittle bit, nervous and very ‘cited”. When I asked my daughter how she made out she said she did well and had been given permission to use one bad word if the pain was too much. She used the F word after the first hole and nothing after the second.
Well I should get off here and give my thumbs a break. I am using my phone rather than a computer.

Tracey, what a wise mom to give her daughter permission to use a naughty word of it hurt! I’m amused that the one that she used was the “f-word”. I’d never heard it back in the protected 1950s until I was 12. I asked my boy buddy what it meant, then didn’t understand his explanation - probably because my parents had explained all that using correct scientific language. Lol.
I’m still battling the cold, although my head is almost clear now. I still cough up a bit of crap now and then.
I’m so glad to back with you all! My “peeps”! Did I tell you all that I have my next trip to Oaxaca Mexico booked for May? I’ve just fallen in love with that place and those people. I’m booked into the same hostel in a 4-bed women’s dorm. It’s off to itself in the same area as the private rooms. I also plan to get my dental needs taken care of there. Dental insurance that has decent coverage is terribly expensive here, and the copays are outrageous. I can get new partials made there and have a two week trip and still not be out of pocket more than I would be here for just the dentures - WITH insurance.
I fly to San Jose CA next Tuesday and immediately begin driving north with my DSIL’s car and belongings from his construction job there. He has another day to finish, then will fly north, leaving me to navigate the Siskiyous and head north from there. He has to be back to start another job up near his home if he doesn’t want to be shipped off to the East Coast for another!
Road trip!! Woot-woot!!
❣️ 🥰 🏎 🏝💞 😘

Rebecca - Wow how great he responded! and so sad about the penpal friend "dear johning" you - I think that the attitude if we don't agree completely, we can't be in conversation is part of the reason for the divide in America. And for most of us there are tons of things we agree on and just a few that we don't. If we had to agree on everything this forum would not exist. Heck I love black licorice and if we had to have that in common I would have few friends indeed.
Kim
Oh black licorice!! Let's be all black toothed tagether!💖😋😜😁😁
💖Rebecca5 -
Sharon: Welcome back. You have been missed! I’m sorry that your D3 and DGS4 had a conflict over your car; not a nice experience for you. I’ll bet you’re happy to be back at home. :flowerforyou:
WendyWoodard: Welcome! Stop by often to give and get support.
Luci in WNC: I chose to discontinue alcohol because it was causing fuzzy thinking and one tended to lead to another. I am happy with myself for the choice. I’m feeling better every day and I’ve already lost some of the weight that had sneaked back up on me.
Michele: My insurance pays for a gym membership for me. If I go to an additional gym, the cost is on me. :ohwell:
Machka: I hope the rainfall is robust enough to put out the fires.
SuziQ: I agree with Machka. You look great!
The bone density scan was easy. NYKaren is right, you just lay on the table, no fuss. They only scanned my hips. Parking at the hospital complex was also easy. DH gave me a suggestion that was right on target. He said to go to the main hospital driveway and have the parking attendants take care of my car. They parked it for me and brought it back to me when the bone density scan was done. YAY!!! No stress and no worries.

Hopefully he will learn that it's never too late to send a thank you note, if you know what I mean. You handled the whole thing well. I know you felt all kinds of emotions during the long wait. As far as the Dear John pen pal, she sounds like someone who would have benefited from getting to know a fun former nudist military wife mother adorer of beautiful cats & painted rocks dollar stretcher husband teaser forum friend fabulous femme. She's probably pretty boring…
Kim Well, you can't rid of me that easily. I love black licorice. My mother loved it too. I hope your mom is feeling better in a jiffy. I got a call from my friend in Nebraska one day in 2001 saying she had seen my mom at the grocery store that morning & she seemed out of breath. I was on the plane a couple of days later and she died from breast cancer metastatic to the lung a month after that. She was my best friend ever.
Barbara I can hardly wait for the joys of Medicare. I am delaying as long as possible, after my initial foray into the morass. At least now I know what Medigap & Part D plans I will probably choose when the time comes. I can put it off for another few months because my employer is generous enough to keep me covered, even though I am no longer working full-time.
Machka I love your auburn tresses but I think you'd also be gorgeous as a salt & pepper…
Amber Awwww, JR yelling for Sissy...
Ginny Did both of the itchy face episodes happen when you were warm (exercise, hot shower, etc)? Because some people develop an "allergy" to heat or cold that causes itchiness & even sometimes hives. We had a physician at our workplace who rode his motorcycle to work in the cold one day & his whole face puffed up with a giant hive! He was OK but it scared him.
Evelyn Maybe Vancouver could send some of that rain to Australia.

So excited: we get to babysit Lilliana (2 months old) for a few hours today!
Karen in Virginia
Yeah for getting ta babysit!!! So precious!💖. Wow who you described I would love ta meet! You make me sound so exciting! Love all the verbiage!💖

Machka: I hope the rainfall is robust enough to put out the fires.
Katla in Beautiful NW Oregon
The rainfall isn't really going to help the fires at this point unless it is a lot. Right now, what little they are getting is just preventing backburns and making it a bit difficult to work.
It does need to be a couple days of solid, steady rain with accumulations in the double-digits (mm).

cityjaneLondon wrote: »The SINGING FOR PLEASURE group was fantastic! I had no idea what to expect, but it was very welcoming, about 40 people, and the gay guy who runs it is brilliant. Nearly everyone is old ,made us feel young, but in very good voice. It was relaxed and easy. Nice mix of tunes.
We stayed on for the Classical section afterwards, just to see what it was like, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Old Italian opera and a Madrigal. We will have a listen on YouTube to get familiar with them as it's far more difficult.
Coming back I bought white irises from the flower shop and I have put them in my new vase. Spring has sprung!
Rebecca - would you enjoy something like that? There must be something up your way.
Love liquorice, by the way, especially Scandinavian. Yummo!
Some of you may remember I absolutely love Burns Night, where you eat haggis and drink whisky. Google it if you are not familiar. Last year we had haggis with my AF son and no whisky. Some years we have had a few guests. I love it because the menu is easy! My son is doing Veganuary, so he's out. I asked my brother and his wife, but they are away, so DH asked his cricket friend and his wife. They said yes, and will stay over. :drinker: I am especially pleased as they are people who much prefer a hotel, but last time he came over for a cup of tea I showed him round the house and the guest accommodation. It is quite separate with en suite. (Normally my bathroom) I love all the fun with the themed table, the silly ' wee Jimmy' hats, and the business with the haggis. I always put on bagpipe music. So, hooray!
Also arranged to meet my friend next week for lunch at The Salt Room, which is on the seafront and has a glassed in terrace. Always wanted to try it. It's mainly fish and seafood. Hooray again!
Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx
I need to join a madrigal group, I would be in my happy place.💖👍

Got the “cleanies” this morning, caught up all carryover 10 min investments and added a dividend of 47 minutes. Told myself that if I did just the 10 mins each I could then reward myself with some quiet paperwork time while Joe is in town. “Rewarding” myself with paperwork? How sick is that?
Evelyn Brava for cleaning when walking wasn’t possible. Sounds like you need two rain jackets…
NYKaren Bravissima for going back for the second 15 minutes!
Karen in VA I’m still laughing out loud at your licorice cartoon. Happeee baybeee!
Viv prayers and gentle ((hugs)) for your SIL and you.
Allie what nasty karma your boss is building for himself. Too bad the 2 guys that run the nursing home don’t jump at the chance to have you. Time to get that resume out to the other nursing homes in the area. You have so much to give!
Lanette haven’t bought the rainpants yet, my friend who’s about my size bought some but had to lop off 6+ inches from the legs. Need to ask her if she sewed hems or taped or glued or just left cut. Alas, I am no seamstress. So I’m dithering and the dogs are missing their pack walks.
Heather would you share the YouTube singing for pleasure link(s)?
Welcome wendywoodard98
Kylia, Wow. Just Wow.
Michele “… but they give you one of their very fashionable gowns” made me choke on my water.
Mark the calendar! Joe told me “Good idea!” for perhaps the second or third time in our 30+ year marriage. Instead of telling him to get a replacement for the burned out garage light, I asked him if he thought Bi-Mart carried fluorescent tubes…. Gotta love them communication skills
Lighter, lovelies!

Karen VA can Lilliana be any more adorable? Enjoy every cuddle with her.
Sharon I am inspired by your solo trip to Mexico and it is so smart to get the DDS work done when you are there, it is sooo crazy expensive in the US.
Work errands after school yesterday but I didn't sink into the couch afterwards, so 2-day streak! I love marking my calendar when I am building a habit, simple and effective. The other strategy I use for staying on top of chores, I keep post it notes with step by step chores; it feels pretty great to check off and toss notes away when complete. For more complex or ongoing work, I use a steno pad, one side with what I need to do, step by step and the other side with notes/contacts etc. to get to the next step. For some reason having it written down gives me peace.
Do any of you keep an idea notebook? I love it for recommendations, quotes etc.

Why Your Brain Needs Exercise
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-your-brain-needs-exercise/
Machka in Oz4 -
Machka - Yes! That's why dancing, where you have to remember moves etc is the perfect exercise. When DH complains that he can't remember the sequence I tell him, that's the point.
Our dance term begins, in a nearer venue, on the 22nd, but we won't be able to go that day as there's a clash with our French Circle. We will start the following week. Can't wait!
Tonight is French Circle and it's meant to be a French Antilles party. There is no further info, so I have no idea if there is food, music etc. We will have a light supper before we set off to cover all options. No idea what to wear.
Barbara - The Singing for Pleasure isn't the one we shall be looking for on Utube, it's the complicated early Italian opera and the Madrigal. We only stumbled into that class by accident when people stayed on for it, it wasn't advertised. I don't read music properly and it was hard, but I loved it. Good brain food! Apparently it is on Utube, so we can have a listen and get familiar with it.
The SFP class was mostly show tunes and pop music from our era. Great fun. The guy who runs it is terrific.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx5 -

Good morning!
Going to be in low 30's F today. Warmly dressing. Calling for 60 degrees F on Friday....crazy winter! I have loved it being warmer, but not good for snowblower sales and service.
Massage tonight. Then need to run a couple of errands. Tomorrow I have to drive to Columbus (about an hour) for a training class. Tomorrow night is hair coloring/cut. Crazy week.
Next week I know we will be home as Barrett Jackson starts. It is our tradition to watch. I love guessing the selling prices of the cars. I am saving to be able to take my husband to Scottsdale most likely for his 60th birthday if not before. Also want to go to Shelby America. It will be car show season soon !
Better get my day started. Have a wise choice day and something that makes you smile!

LUCI I am in Spain at the moment but going home tomorrow. Mixed feelings nice to get home but will miss Spain Never mind back in March
