WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR JANUARY 2020

@klanders30 I had a little girl in my afterschool program - an Irish dancer just as you describe - she was the same way, always bouncing and dancing everywhere she went. She's a young woman now and has won regional and world championships in her age groups several times over the years. Whenever I see news of her latest accomplishment, I remember that little girl dancing in the bathroom line.4

Skimmed through catch up. Turns out when I am trying to accomplish things, I don't have as much computer time!
Busy day at work, but productive. Contract tentatively approved. Will see how it goes. Keeping with my word "finish", I could have left work early today (since I worked from home yesterday and didn't get a lunch break today), but had all the extra papers to be sorted, etc., and I didn't want to just stuff them in a folder somewhere, telling myself I would get to it later. Stayed and got all of the stuff involved sorted, the extra stuff shredded. Now in a very organized state when I go in tomorrow. Went to gym after work and got in good workout and treadmill. It was so relaxing.
Going to bed-may watch a bit more of the National Championship but I think a solid night sleep would do me better.
Take care all,

Over did putting Christmas away yesterday. I had bad leg cramps last night. Drank more water today and paced myself. DSIL not doing well. She has anemia and no obvious cause. It is hard for her to cook and move. She lives out of state. DH might go down to help. DS needs us now too. So I would stay for him. I told DH sounds like she needs to hire some extra care to help get her a good meal and light house keeping. She will need more than a short visit from him. If he sees her he can hopefully find some help for her.

Barbara - our park rules probably wouldn’t allow it. I am not sure what happened yesterday we’ve had these cold temperatures the last two years as well. I think though that I left water running overnight in previous years and I didn’t the other night. I remember my Dad putting hay bales around the house in winter for added insulation.
Lisa - I remember rabbit ears very well and have a funny story about them. We lived in the country and could get three stations CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) CTV (Canadian television) and a PBS station from Maine. On Saturday nights if it was clear and no storms my Dad would take out little 13” black and white tv upstairs, put steel wool on the rabbit ears, hold our tongues just right and cross our eyes, we would get a station from Maine called WAGM, they had a show called Stacy’s Country Jamboree that my Dad loved. There was a woman named Jenny that sang On the wings of a dove. She is on You tube is you are so inclined to have your ears hurt.
Continue doing what you’re doing, I wouldn’t change anything either.
Rebecca - I always crave alone time but when I get it I am at a loss at to what to do. I usually crank the music and clean. I hate cleaning when anyone else is around. My house suffers the effects of this. It’s not untidy but sure could use more deep cleans than it gets.
Flea - sorry to hear about your MIL. My Dad waited until we all left him alone, I truly believe that. I think he didn’t want us to witness his last breath, even 20 minutes before he asked the nurse to leave.
I read your post, a lot to worry about for sure. My paternal Grandmother moved in with her children after having a heart attack so she gave her stuff away on her own free will. Each granddaughter was given a cup and saucer. I never got one until years later as I was “too young” now older cousins have given me theirs as they downsize. My Maternal Grandmother stuck masking tape on certain things to be dispersed. My Mom was an only child so it was just Mom, my brother and I. We didn’t have any fights and I have way too much.
I tend to agree with you, my girls have already spoken for some things and will be given it when I no longer need or want it.
My parents house has been cleaned out and emptied, since 2018 and was torn down that same year. My parents didn’t have a lot, but I have a lot they had made for me over the years that are treasured. My brother kept one board from my parents house and one from my grandparents house for me.
Our furnace has worked all day and our water has ran fine as well. So thankful for that. It was very cold at work today, turns out something happened with our boiler and the AC came on. Definitely not needed on a -31 day! I have to fix a sweater to wear tomorrow.
Have a great evening everyone.
Tracey in Edmonton where it is currently -33 with a feels like of -42.

Margaret- Same for me back of my legs aches after putting up the Christmas. God knows we exercise so makes zero sense!
The cost for your kids y grandkids even with Affordable Care Act to have a baby now since no ones patching the holes in it like should be done with any new thing rolled out. Common sense which no one has anymore it seems . We’re the last of our kinds Gals the ones who know what the word common sense means half an e tea helping of it.

My mother and I have talked a lot about this, and we have both decided that we are giving/offering things to people before we die. She's already started doing it. I told all three of my boys when they move out, if there is something of mine they want, ask me/tell me, and if it isn't giving me joy anymore, they can have it. It will just save everyone a lot of pain and perhaps bickering later.[/spoiler]

You're right ...
I think I was one of the last generations who was strongly encouraged to register at a china place when I got married and pick out a set for entertaining. I've also inherited another set of china along the way. I'm really not sure what to do with them because people just don't do dinner parties anymore. I see this stuff for sale inexpensively at markets etc. so I don't even think I could sell it.
And books ... I've been offered my grandfather's books and I think I took a few, but libraries and the internet are so accessible now.
I actually can't think of anything of my mother's I'd especially want ... maybe a bit of jewellery and a few little things to remember her by.
And I agree that it's a good idea to distribute things in advance, if possible, rather than saving them for the will or the person who cleans out the house.
It's a very good idea to get as much "in order" before anything happens.

I called my sister in Montana, when husband was gone at the dealership. She had surgery on a lymphedema on the back of her knee, and the side of her other leg. They did internal stitches and glued the skin closed. She is doing well, and her puppy is 35+ lbs!
My husband said the dealership just changed the oil. The brakes were fine and the tires are fine! Woohoo, only $46 for the oil change and I have taken out $800! A trip to warmer weather dances in my head....😋😁

There is a 99% chance of rain this afternoon when we are due to go to our Singing for Pleasure class. I think an anorak and waterproof pants are in order.
I will play our classical songs a couple more times this morning.
It seems strange to this Brit when you talk about your houses. Our plots of land are worth money even if the house is a ruin. And if you walked away the council would come after you. I suppose an old ruin in the deep countryside would not be worth much, or in some old industrial towns, but our bricks and mortar houses are nearly always worth saving. On our small island, land is at a premium. Finding a building plot with planning permission is very difficult.

Down here in Tasmania ...
-- land way out in the middle of nowhere is cheap (under $50,000)
-- land in smaller towns is mid-range ($50,000-$175,000)
-- land in more populated areas is expensive (over $175,000)
There are towns here where businesses have closed and people do just walk away. When we moved here, some were like that and we could have picked up a house for about $8000. It would have been in pretty rough condition and there would have been no work/employment anywhere close ... but houses in those towns are now going for about $50-60,000 so maybe it would have been worth it!!

Got a bit behind again, spent most of Saturday with my mum waiting for the doctor to call, she'd had a bad cold (as we all have) but thought she might have a chest infection as she was feeling worse. She called me quite early asking me to get in touch with the doctor for a home visit. Getting a doctor to call is hard, there's no surgery on a Saturday so I had to call the 111 NHS helpline and after going through many many questions was told they needed to speak with mum. I said give me 10 mins to get ready and go over to her house. After speaking with mum, they said they would get a doctor to call her within 2 hours. The doctor called after about an hour and went through the same question asked if she could get to the surgery (I'd already explained that we had no transport and she wasn't well enough to leave the house) he then said he would put her on the list for a home visit.
A lovely doctor finally came to see her a few hours later, I did feel a bit guilty because mum was feeling a little better than she had earlier and I did wonder whether she needed a home visit, but there's always the worry of chest infections etc so thought it was better to be safe than sorry. The doc gave her a good examination and her chest was clear, her blood pressure was a little high but everything else was fine. Doc said she had a virus and she should start to feel better in a few days.
Now I'm nearly 10 pages behind. What a chatty bunch we are
Best get on, I want to get cracking on the kitchen, I want to paint where they've boxed in the meter and pipes. DS put a new white blind up last Wednesday and it looks so much better and really brightens up the kitchen. I will post pics one of these days.
Love to all hope everyone is doing okay

Because I no longer have a normal publisher there is no contact point for me. I'm not intending to blog or anything, although I guess you never know! It will basically be a cv and description of what I can offer with some photos. The most important thing for me is that they forward emails to my Inbox. If someone has read my memoir and wants to contact me I can put the website on my Author Page on Amazon.
I would like to put a few old photos on there to supplement the memoirs. People can link to there from the books. It's easier than putting photos into the books.

Be sure you've got a really good virus/scam catcher!
When I put up my new site, I left the setting on where comments are forwarded to my email. Whoops and wow! I turned that off in a hurry!
But even if the site is just about you, I'd still recommend having a "hook" ... something that makes you stand out. And examples of talks, articles and podcasts.

YVONNE I love all those songs my Grandad loved Al Jolson
HEATHER love Vera are you watching Wisting
Kate UK1 -
Kate UK - This Vera series is only about three long, I understand. Yes I am watching Wisting. The depressing thing is that, although I have been learning Norwegian for about 15 months, I can only understand a few words of their conversation because they speak so fast. But then I'm not much better with French films and I consider myself fairly fluent. The spoken language is difficult. It's like listening to two of us mumbling together and using slang. Norwegians seem to elide a lot of their words and miss off endings. I hope to be able to stumble out a few phrases when I get there and hope they speak slowly back to me.
DH's back pain is improving. He is doing his exercises and stretches and has bought a roller on the osteopath 's advice. It comes with link to the internet for use, so he has printed off lots of pages with pictures. He is sleeping better. I bought him some long lasting, 12 hr, ibuprofen yesterday that he can take after dinner. He took it last night. I think he is just feeling more optimistic about it improving. I really feel for those of you with husbands who are in constant pain.

Trying to do about 150 different things at once these days. My morning was triple booked which took some juggling but amazingly got it all done.
One of the things I got done was a CT scan of my nose and surrounding area. In early Feb I'll learn the fate of my nice little nose. On the one hand breathing better would be good ... on the other hand, I like my nose!
Over the next few days ...- I really need to work on my last assignment for my class.
- I want to do some work on my website because we might have a Wordpress meeting on Saturday, although I haven't actually seen anything about that. I'll have to check.
- I want to see if I can revive an orchid!

Carol there is nothing immature about caring so deeply for your pom, on the contrary imho.
Barbie I love your way of looking at prep day as … “a day of great treats”.
Lanette just yesterday I commented to one of my fellow students that one of the things I dislike most about aging is the fear of falling. When we practice stepping, coach makes us slow way down. Step Right up, bring Left knee up toward waist level, hold for 3 seconds, step Left down, step Right down.. Repeat on other side. The object is to remove momentum from the equation to build stabilizing strength. Good to practice at bottom stair with handrails on both sides, and arms empty of firewood
Flea Graceful of you to speak at the MIL’s funeral.
