    Barbara: We shopped at Trader Joes in the past, but I didn’t notice dark chocolate peanut-butter cups. We haven’t been there since shortly after I retired from teaching. It is too far away and the traffic is too unpleasant for us to choose to make that trip. :ohwell:

    M in OZ: Our health insurance covers dental check-ups, but only a portion for things like fillings, root canals or crowns. We have a copay for those things. :ohwell:

    Heather: I notice the change in day length, too. We are just above the 45th parallel. I need extra Vitamin D3 during fall and winter. We haven’t eaten out in months because restaurants have been limited to take out until recently. We ordered take out from a local Thai restaurant once and have had Subway sandwiches once. :flowerforyou:

    Lisa: Holy humidity, indeed. Our air conditioner pumps excess humidity out of the air and condenses it into water that dribbles away into the flowerbed. I feel unexpectedly grateful at this moment. I hope you’re okay and don’t end up sweltering. :star:

Re sourdough starter: Siri tells me that sourdough is made from flour, water, & microbiome. The microbiome is what will allow the flour and water to become sourdough. Getting the starter from Bob’s Redmill is a reliable key to success. I wish you luck. :star:

    No we didn’t meet at one , we met at a bar, it was during the day. He was drying off and I walked in with a friend to do laundry and went in to have a drink while the wash was going. She had a blind date with him, she introduced us. I guess it didn’t work out with them, but they were still friendly. He sat at our table and the rest is history

    I am having fun making the masks. I am on my way up to visit my parents for a few hours(quick visit) and one of their neighbors is going to bring me fabric in exchange for some masks- the ones she has are behind the ears and they are bugging her.

    If you like the Celestial Seasonings Peppermint tea, you would LOVE going to their factory-they have the peppermint room- they have to keep the doors closed except for a few minutes while the tour goes through or every single tea in the whole place will taste like peppermint. The smell is sooooo strong- I love it, I can breath so much better after being in there- many said it was too strong. If you ever get to Boulder CO. you have to check it out- free tour and free tasting- taste as much as you want and their gift shop is huge-they had a big sale going on when we were there- had to have them ship it home because I bought too much- couldn't pass it up . some were .75cents a box!! I have been twice(both times we went to CO) and I would love to go again.

    Heading up to my parents for a short visit- We will stop at a few grocery stores on the way up- like to pick up extras for them to put in their freezer plus stuff I will cook for our lunch while we are there. Son was supposed to go with us but can't get him to wake up :( Disappointed but it is his day off from work-works 40hrs but would have liked for him to go with us.
    Made raspberry jam yesterday for mom and picked fresh one just now- Raspberries are her favorite and they haven't grown any for a long time(I have taken some cuttings up they will have some next year- will do more cuttings this fall)
    Visit will be too short- never long enough.

    Afternoon ladies
    Yes in the last 6 yrs the place has been sold 3 times.. gonna find out why....
    Margaret - i know all about assessments i just sent out an almost 800.00 check this morning for the elevator,and we will need a new roof soon that will be 10,000 a piece.
    I have a list of questions to ask tomorrow..how old is the roof,water heater,furnace,have the windows ever been replaced,it is forced hot air ,no ac will ask why never been put in..yes there is a 430.00 HOA few want to know what that covers.
    Car window fixed,washer/ dryer installed ,and new garbage disposal put in.

    So sorry Barbie for the sudden death of your friend. That is hard. I'm glad you are able to feel the gift she has given you, which is priceless. <3

    The pizza was delicious! :D I ordered the vegetarian mushroom one, with truffle oil. Really good and will have again. I did a big green salad and a tomato salad, French style. AF wine. :D

    DH's sister rang and we all had a good chat. She is having trouble negotiating the post covid medical queues to sort out her poorly ankle. She bust it years ago jumping into the sea, which turned out to be a rock, :o and now she is 67 it is playing up. Sad, because she is super fit. She is cycling and swimming, but walking is hard.

    I went for my 'slow run' Lisa! Very glad I did. First long one in a while as the weather and my uti were not cooperating before. Not too busy on the seafront.

    Barbie - sorry to hear about your dance teacher's passing, I know she'll be missed. Glad to hear she was chipper pretty much til the end. :)

    Here is a gem that just popped up in one of my social media feeds: "When you lose good people, carry their torches."

    What a neat thought. Loss doesn't necessarily mean death, it can mean them moving or no longer fulfilling a role or whatever reason. It reminds me of senior Master Gardeners who made such an impact on me when I was a student, and how neat it is others have taken over their roles as many have retired for health reasons.

    We are having perfect Washington weather today - cool and sunny, blue sky and fluffy white clouds. It doesn't get any better than this. <3

    Lanette: Our weather today is also beautiful. It is warm enough outside without being too warm, and the air-conditioner is not having to pump out cold air to keep us comfortable. We’ll see if that is still true at 5:30pm or so. :star:


    I ordered a new riding helmet several weeks ago and it still has not arrived. I will check with Amazon again today.

    Katla About 16 years ago when I was really having the worst nerve and inner ear problems, a neurologist tested me for D3. I was way low. After some high doses for years, I am now taking 2000 units twice a day of the liquid capsules and my level is holding nicely. D3 is certainly important for many of us in the Northwest. It sure made a difference for me.

    Barbie Sorry about the loss of your dance teacher. I haven't done line dancing for years but it was fun when I did. You may never stop missing that daily call. I had a friend of 36 years from an old blues band I was in and he checked on me every day. He died 5 years ago and I still miss that morning message from him.

    Debbie: My daughter and her family used to live in Colorado. We went to the Celestial Seasoning factory for the tour while we were visiting her. It was wonderful. The whole place smelled heavenly. My personal favorite teas are Peppermint Tea and SleepyTime Tea. :bigsmile:

    Faye: D3 is a wonderful mood booster. I take it in caplet form once daily, 5000IU. I’ve been told that people with summer birthdays are more likely to have winter blues. I have done much better in fall & winter since I started taking D3. :star:


    My new riding helmet was sent via the US Post office. It still has not arrived at our house. DH has taken over tracking it for me. It was shipped and is now expected to arrive between 8/27 and 9/1. I hope that is true. Luckily, his repair of the old helmet makes it useable again.

    Katla Yes, D3 does wonders for the mind and body. I have never heard about the summer birthday fall blues thing. I have a fall birthday. I was always outdoors until I got the shingles that nearly killed me and caused my inner ear problem and lots of bedtime and indoors for 3 years. I never thought about taking D3 because I was missing the sun until the one doctor tested and I was amazed how low I was. We certainly need D3, especially during the late fall and winter here in the PNW. I try to walk every day year-round, but some winter days I don't because of ice.

    Anne DE – our condo is a gated community. Never had a problem but recently someone came in and took someone’s purse out of the pool area. Like I said, where there is a will there is a way. The reason they gated it is because it’s prime for watching launches (we’re right across the river from the VAB).

    Vince just got home and brought everything in the house that’s supposed to go here. The sun came out so I went in the pool

    Lisa     – when you do the trimming, what equipment do you use? I remember when I was little (before my mother died) the house we lived in had roses around the lamplight, too!

    Katla     – when you keep your masks in the car (I do also because, like you, sometimes I just stop somewhere), where do you keep yours? Right now I have mine in my drink holder but I would like something that maybe I can hang from the headrest in the passenger seat that I can put them in. So many times I’ve gotten to the door of the store and said “oh, forgot my mask” which is why I always keep one in my pocketbook, too. I googled “why isn’t my sourdough starter rising”. Well, the recipe I was following to the letter called for 70g of water, 70g of flour, and 140g of starter. This recipe calls for 70g water, 70g flour, and 70g starter. Maybe that was my problem???? Well, I tried that at 12 and at 4 still no activity. Who knows? I searched on BRM site, and the only thing I could find about a sourdough starter was a recipe for making your own. Do they sell starter?

    Sourdough starter is in the oven on proof. I’ve decided definitely that if there isn’t any activity by 9:00 (when it would have been fed), then I’m going to hang it up and try a new recipe. This is just too much.

    Karen - sounds like the regular Medicare staff has been quarantined and they have the college kids filling in, having given them one day of training.

    I remember being put on terminal hold with them 4 years ago when I signed up. I finally resorted to sending them an email which they did answer within a week.

    You might try that if you haven't already, attaching scans of your proof of coverage Nov 2019 thru Aug 1 2020.

    Someone probably misplaced that so they resorted to "send the bill and let the customer straighten us out." :s

    I hate having stuff like that hanging over my head even though I know I'm right. Try not to let it mess up the rest of your weekend.

    Sorry to hear about Chadwick Boseman. Black Panther is on my list.
