Today we added a hand grab bar inside our shower area, installed by our plumber. It is a nice safety measure. We have an additional bar that will be installed when it arrives. The new grab bars will help DH be safer in the shower and will make me happier, knowing life is a bit easier and safer for him.

    I am in my 50s ... it's not like I'm 80 yet!!

It kind of hit home to me recently when my father, who is 79, cycled further than I did in 2020!! GASP! I've got to get my butt on my bicycle more often!!

That's been one of the many good things about 2020 ... I'm not alone! Everyone else is shut down too! :):) Kind of hoping there will be more shut downs in 2021!

But while you all will come out of your shut downs ... we remain in ours. I've done some research and it turns out Tassie has some of the most restrictive worker's compensation laws around.

We'll be celebrating as we often do ... at home, watching a movie. My husband will likely go to bed by about 10:30 and I'll likely ring in the new year in bed with a good book. :)

Much better than being out and about!

Amen. My husband's lungs are damaged from pneumonia when he was younger. His oxygen level, on a good day, doesn't even reach 95 -- usually it is between 90 and 92. I can't let him get this. He will not have a good outcome.

    Evening ladies
All i have to say is holy cow how did women wear corsets lol
I have my life vest on and that has to be tight to the upper ribcage.so God forbid im unconscious that it could zap me if needed. And to compound that bought a 42 G bra to wear over it,which keeps the sisters together.. but the 2 together OY..
The incision where they did the surgery is sore, basically the upper right breast but taking Tylenol messes with the blood thinner.
The defibrillator has a 5 lb battery that i have to wear like a purse ,so im in my nightgown, with the battery habging on my right arm, wrapped up tighter than a tick, and trying to get comfortable..
Well i shouldnt complain ,cause its better than the alternative..

And think of the strength you are developing carrying all of that around! But good for you. I'm also glad you got some comfortable bras for the sisters.

DB and DSIL have been diagnosed with Covid. Step grandchildren went to visit their dad and came home positive but asymptomatic. Their mom is also sick now. DB has congestive heart failure so at additional risk. These kids have been in their bubble since the beginning of this. So far everyone is quarantined at home.

A friend in SD is a Chaplin at the heart hospital and got her first vaccination today. I am glad that things are beginning to move on that front.
    Sorry about that news.

On this last day of December and last day of 2020, my husband and I decided to cycle at least 50 km. Actually, he wanted to cycle 53 km to reach a total of 1200 km for the year.

I planned out a route and off we went.
We knew that we'd be into the wind at first, but it was stronger than expected - 35 km/h gusting to 50 km/h!
We also knew that we'd be climbing for the first 10 km, but there's a lot of subtle climbing on apparently flat routes.

    p55m4emgikxb.png

So it was rather challenging in places ... and easy in other places ... and generally more challenging as we went along because we're not in as good shape as we could be.

    But we made it! :)

And our annual total is just over 1200 km.

    vuv8acva97jo.png

My 79-year old father's annual total is over 2000 km and my 79-year old mother's annual total is about 700 km. Both my parents are cyclists and have been for decades. They got me into cycling. They have also enjoyed hiking over the years, and my mother and I used to cross country ski.

My mother's parents, my grandparents on her side, were also quite active. My grandfather lived into his early 90s ... he was a cowboy in Canada way back when, and then got into mountain climbing and later just ordinary hiking and walking. My grandmother lived to 97 and she hiked with my grandfather, walked a lot, and did a lot of gardening in big gardens.

I've been active my entire life because I grew up in an active family and it was just what we did. :)

Happy New Years Eve everyone <3

I will try to be more active on here, but I am spending a lot of time on the computer at the moment. I have joined an exercise group which I do for 40 - 45 mins every morning after walking the dog, I've also joined a decluttering group ( but I need to get off my computer to complete the tasks and get my house into some sort of order :) ) Logging my calories every day is a pain, but I need to do this until I get the hang of eating less!

Here's to a healthy, happy and safe New Year for us all.

    Love

"Get to do"s and "chose well"s
Chose well: zoomed with Barb, called firehall board VP + Pres.
Bonus: logged into reporting system, baked almond crescents, 30 mins Leslie Sansome.
Get to do: take BP, dogs to powerline, call R, plumber, fire call data into state system, corrected roster to Cal-Or, minutes and letter to Howard, index mutual aid files, watch STAS Day 19, submit grant pics and receipts, test Bluetooth speaker so can do BB&B or T’ai Chi from voice recordings, make experimental almond paste, declutter sideboard, practice new dances (I ain’t never gonna love nobody but Cornell Crawford (Alley cat), A Little Less Broken, One margarita, I’m so used to being broke, All Night, Nothing but You, Blame it on my beating heart, Homesick); finish mulching flowerbed; broadcast cover crop seed in veg garden areas, invest another 10 minutes in prepping living trust, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, get Shingrix vaccine, find and configure a screen time popup, figure out where to plant naked lady bulbs, and soon as it warms up above 50 and dries out below 60% humidity I’ll tape and spray paint those rusted areas of Aunt Elsie’s stove. Reconcile Joe’s EOB’s Thrivent shows only 2263.48 so far, next BGBS ask Terry about GB’s FD firetruck tax levy – contacts, media, advocate???,
Reward: inventory seeds, plan next year’s garden, wishlist replenishments, ask faucet question, if answer ok order. Tuesday: pickup library book.
    Do Good December
30: let someone know how much you appreciate them and why: board pres.

Yesterday’s silver linings: Oops, knocked the laundry room hanging rod out of its brackets. Climbed on washer and used grabber to pick up fallen rod and hangers. Hmm, seem damp??? Dragged washer forward, what’s this water doing puddled on the floor?!? Called appliance repair, walked me through check points, determined seepage seems to be coming from the wall spigots. Called plumber (delayed today after waiting hours, will come tomorrow morning first thing). What’s the silver lining? Found the leak BEFORE I did today’s 2 or 3 loads of laundry. Could have been a real mess.

Thanks, Katla, we have no Safeway here, but next time I’m in Crescent City… was your plumber masked while he was working? Hoping ours will be.
Machka “Target has decided…” “Things you don’t need to feel guilty about” was just what I needed to see. Thanks!
Terri so sorry for the shocking loss of your friend. Sharp reminder to treasure the day.
Allie great news from Connecticare! Can Alfie come to visit?
Tracey thanks for prompting Heather to give us a pic of the pink’n’purple.
p.s. Heather also  your fireplace and mantle décor.
Rita when do you see the urologist?
Karen “Julia has two passions…” made me laugh right out loud. Thanks, I needed that!
Beth any more intriguing vegetables making an appearance?
Margaret my beloved aunt Margaret always took me to Shaw’s Garden when we visited St. Louis. That and my cousin taking us to Grant’s Farm were the highlights then. Now, I’d just hug aunt Margaret and all the other dearly departeds, and hold those hugs an extra six seconds each.
Lisa happy to hear your son’s good news!
Sue in WA prayers for your DB, DSIL and their family.
Julie 1 hr on recumbent AND 20-30 min strength training? Well done!!!
Viv delighted to see you posting. Congrats on your groups.

Suffering hug withdrawals, look out Joe and Shadow, here I come…

    Morning, afternoon and evening, all...

Barbara AHMOD, glad for you that your laundry room leak was a mere trickle instead of a flood!

Machka, your apprehension about possibilities that are a decade or more down the road can become a heavy mental burden if you let them--but I've noticed you make sure you create the opportunities for the self-care that makes sense to you (cycling, time off etc.) on a regular basis. Everyone who cares for another has to remember the oxygen mask theory - take care of yourself, so you can continue to take care of the other person in your life. You are a sterling example of that. What's your age difference again?

Sue in WA, so sorry about your DB and DSIL coming up with the virus, and hope they have the lightest possible bout with it. Glad their step-grands were asymptomatic, hope their mom comes through it well...

Flea, thinking about you and your mom.

Viv UK, you can't be all things to all people, but we do love it when you drop in.

Katiebug, glad you're getting your pin out, and PT doesn't sound like much fun, but you will take it in stride because you're that kind of girl. :) My best friend, who broke a finger when it got caught in the door mechanism of a Chick-Fil-A, just got to the splint stage too, and yesterday told me "I only have to wear it in a situation where I could fall. So inside. And outside." Made me laugh, but lordie, y'all need to be careful!

Suzie in FL, there are few past accomplishments more important to me and my husband than getting rid of the debt load that we brought to our relationship a dozen years ago. Being debt-free is one of the best feelings ever, and we are very much looking forward to paying this house off as soon as we can (two to two-and-a-half years away). Well done on the work you've done so far, and I look forward to your celebration when you get there!

We're 12 years apart. He's 12 years older than me.

He may be gone in 10 years ... maybe longer if we can improve our fitness etc. which I hope we can do. But unless something completely unexpected happens, given my family history, I could be around for another 40-50 years.

My husband will be gone. My parents will be gone. I'm not close to any other family members.

I am hoping that we can move to Canada while my parents are still around. My aunt, uncle and cousins are there and I'd get to know them if I could. I mean, I know them but not well.

Meanwhile, we wait until we might be set free.

Oh, one fortunate thing is that we've been getting to know my husband's son and his wife here in Tassie! They're nice. :)

So... just a few things that are doing laps around my brain pan this morning:

My body chemistry does horrible things to most perfumes, and within a very short period of time they smell rancid and/or nauseating, so I end up scrubbing them off. Some actually give me a rash, so I'm pretty careful about what I even try. The one I loved for many years was a Calvin Klein knockoff by Parfum du Coeur, and of course they quit making it ten years ago. Oddly enough, I never liked the actual CK One version that it was supposed to mimic.

Anyway, I found something a few weeks ago at Sam's Club for a reasonable price, Juicy Couture by Juicy Couture Perfume. Tried the tester while I was there shopping (hard to get the scent through a mask, but not impossible), and once all my shopping was done, went back and picked up a bottle. Really pleased with it. Scents that I love are quite soothing for me... so you'll find me taking deep breaths with my nose at my wrist more often than I'm willing to admit. The longer it's on, the better it smells. Makes me happy.

Katiebug--like you, I'm trying to figure out my word for 2021. I like "truth" for you, and have been playing with the word "query" for me. There are so many things I'm questioning right now that it seems appropriate.

    In 2020, I used

    kintsugi.

While it felt appropriate, and still does, it also seemed to be a prediction of how the year would go. Too many breakages during this last year to feel comfortable with that notion again. It is both static and destructive.

"Query" still doesn't feel like it's quite right, but something will...

    Later y'all,
    Love,
    Lisa

I have a big problem with perfumes/colognes. I can try them and love them.....and then they give me a migraine a few hours later. Same goes for what my hub wears. It drives him nuts. He can basically wear two scents, and one we can't find anymore. I can wear two also (that I know of). One of them also is hard to find, but I stocked up  It is incredibly frustrating.

Most people here don't seem to wear perfume. It's frowned on in buses and in the office ... considered rude.

If we do wear something it'll be really faint.
