75 Ways to Walk More
https://blog.myfitnesspal.com/ways-walk-more/0 -
Greetings from chilly Florida.
I awakened yesterday thinking the weather peeps were correct with their predictions. Ok, I must admit the last time I checked the weather was last Thursday. I got up, showered, and threw on a pair of shorts. Much to my amazement when I went outside I was chilled! It was 50 degrees!!
Kylia – Welcome back and happy New Year. Hope all is well and you’re managing as best as you can.
ClarityPeace – Welcome. You’ll find you have much in common with some others of the group.
Bananas – That’s it (the list). 😊
Pip – 3210! Wow!
Heather – Love the picture of the grands at the park – lovely.
Sherryann – Welcome. You will find there are a few WW within this group. I was a member pre-Oprah and was very successful. I used all of the tools I used there but instead of points am now logging calories.
Judefit1 – Welcome to a fine group. Post when you are comfortable.
Sue – I imagined your puppy enjoying splashing around. It brought a smile to my face.
Pip – Big hug to you.
Barbie – I did not think I would have the patience to do puzzles. I am surprised to find I am enjoying them even though I did get frustrated with the last one because many of the pieces are very dark. I am also finding that much like gardening and washing my car the puzzles allow my mind to be free from thoughts running through my head. I will see if I still enjoy the process once life is a little more normal.
Katla – OH, NO! So sorry to hear about your fall. If it’s just a replacement to the lens the doctor may be able to order it and set your appointment when it’s received.
Tracking and Activity – I am still doing well on both fronts (yes, it’s only the 5th). My body is enjoying the healthier food options and it is reinforcing why I decided to get back to a healthier lifestyle back in August 2019. I am officially at my 501-day mark on MFP. As a former WW I had learned once I stop tracking, even if it was sloppy, the weight started creeping back up. In October 2020 I stopped tracking and found the same result. So, it’s back to tracking my intake before things get too out of hand. I am not sure why I keep trying the same experiment but am glad I reined myself in before I regained all of the weight I lost.
I just gazed at the clock and see it’s time for me to fly. We are still awaiting the “official” close notification from finance so are cleaning up, planning for next year, and getting ready to start churning numbers. It will be good to close out 2019 at work too!
Hugs and prayers to all.

Katla so sorry to hear about your fall. Glad to hear you will get checked out. Bummer about the glasses.0

Morning, afternoon and evening, all...
Katla - it's possible your doctor may be able to send you your prescription or send it straight to a local optician to get filled, save you a trip. Glad you're OK, hope you're right and the wrist is bruised and nothing more.
Pip - thinking about you.
On the subject of fish - it's always depended on where I lived. When I was in Coos Bay, Oregon, you could go down to the docks and get some great fresh fish. In Arkansas, not so much. Never fond of salmon, and it's one of the few they ship in here, and is always frozen and thawed. Urky. I do eat canned tuna with light mayonnaise, but try to keep it to once a week or so, as the mercury in them is a little unnerving.
Will be headed up to Walmart soon for a couple cheap desk lamps. I hadn't realized until winter moved in how much I depended on natural light to do such things as sew, quilt, or do jigsaw puzzles. Part of it is my aging eyes, too... but who wants to admit that?
Oh - on the subject of puzzles and keeping cats off of them - I picked up a number of the small fleece/felt lap blankets at Walmart yesterday, as they make great lightweight batting for quilts, and they have them marked down to $2.50 each (50x60 inches--the same yardage of material would be twice that). Anyway, I was thinking about it when I got home, as I got a puzzle for Christmas, and Egg is ever curious. So... I folded one into quarters and set it up to both hold the puzzle pieces so they won't slide and cover them to keep them away from Egg. It could also be used to hold a larger one if you laid it down as a single layer.
Just a thought. Odd day, just kind of a half bubble off plumb today. And, speaking of that, spoke to my sister yesterday very quickly. She lives there (half bubble off plumb). Luckily, I'm just visiting. Hopefully.
Later, y'all,
Love,

Feeling anxious today. Not sure why.
Gave 2 online classes at 9 and 11 after 2 week break. Classes went well. In both classes we had time for debate since we've come close to covering most of the main stuff, which was good and lively in both cases. In 2nd class students chose subject "the future" in the sense of "no future" for discussion. Many don't believe in the future. (environment, economy, etc.) It seemed sad. I reminded them of the cyclical nature of things: Some, but not all, were aware of the "No Future" (punk) movement in the 70s or so. (See Sex Pistol's "God Save the Queen" (some punks wore "no future" pins, not believing in any possible positive future). I said when I was young we worried about overpopulation (that was a curriculum subject in 4th grade, when the world population was about 4 billion), and...the Cold War. And I also told them of the mention of the "Lost Generation" term not used in France, and evoked the cyclical nature of such concerns. I had said it's normal for young people to question their future, and maybe even more so young people studying the humanities (rather than "hard sciences" or for practical jobs) and even more so this crazy year. I told them about my grandpa's 1st wife who died during the Spanish Flu, and so my grandpa married my grandma, and, like for many world crises (like WWII) many people were born due to the way things were shaken up, and life develops that way.ne "
We were coming to end of class. Another discussion had been "places to go for a nice walk in the city", so we ended with that, to not be too dark as a way of ending.
I don't know if the subject is the reason I feel anxious. it might be. I could feel anxiety arising as they spoke about it. I stayed calm and reassuring in appearance, voice, subject, and I like the students very much- some of them are very long term students -'ve had for 3-4 years, but aaaaaaaaaaaaah!
I feel like hiding away for a day.
I was already craving starch all day yesterday.
Today I had a dense bready thing just after class, and it makes it hard to stay under calories.
I decided to give up. I started to just have chard after, but It was SOOO boring so I added a red pepper spread and some rich tofu to make it balanced. Over calories today but really ok for net for the week. I have averaged about 110 net calories under goal in previous 10 days. I'll see if I can make some of it back on bike later today or not.
It's very gray and humid out today.2 -

Afternoon all. We have managed an outdoor walk most Ayala since New Year’s. Today the sun actually felt warm on my face.
Janetr: One of my friends had shard that too. You look so happy in your later photo. Maintenance IS hard. I’m 5’2” and have been < 150 for nearly a year now.
Lisa: Aw! Calvin and Hobbes. I have several books of those cartoons. Grandkids loved them too.
Tracey: The cots and bedding look adorable. DH used to make toys for our girls and later for the grands. We still have many of them here.
Resolutions: I don’t make resolutions as such. However, I do review my aims and objectives several times a year January being one of them.
Spent yesterday taking Christmas down and packing it away in the attic. Today I’m sorting my sewing station out.
I’m up to page 6. Hoping to get fully caught up today.

Just popping in with this: Joe announced that it was 8 o’clock, the park was open and we weren’t there. That he would take the dogs to Crissey Field. And then… wait for it… he said “you’re welcome to come along.” Hallelujah! An invitation I thought would never come. First opportunity since the disaster months ago. Rejoicing and giving thanks as I brush my teeth, dress and get ready to go.

Hi again, I may be a bit of a "stalker" for a while as I get used to this format of communication, but I have to say, I am so happy I stumbled here- you all seem to be such interesting women!!! Thank you for the responses that were so welcoming, and I'm happy I found my way back!

Hi all,
I ventured out into Lockdown Britain as we needed milk. Everything much the same. I hadn’t actually been out of the house since Friday!
It was very nice to say hello to the shopkeepers. The butchers are always very friendly. Last lockdown they closed and did delivery only, but they intend to stay open this time. I bought pigs' cheeks, lamb neck fillets and beef mince. Found lots of fresh veg at the deli, and milk in a small shop. All shops had only me in there, all masked, sanitiser.
DH is happy doing a jigsaw I bought him for Christmas. The Periodic Table. 500 pieces. He's finding it very relaxing. It should help us with our quizzes on TV. It often comes up as a question. I previously bought him flags and capital cities.
One thing that often comes up is capital cities of US states. They are rarely the ones we think of. Some of them I've never heard of! Must revise those.
Katla - that is extremely annoying. So glad you weren't hurt really badly. I tripped down a kerb a few years ago. Took a few months to completely recover.
Salmon tonight. With a mix of leeks and fennel in creme fraiche. One of our favourites. We eat loads of fish, of all kinds. I try to eat meat no more than three times a week. I also like to have one vegetarian day.
Have any of you seen the latest research into the dangers of wood stoves? Might be worth Googling it. I know some of you have them.

@cityjaneLondon wow! that once seemed like the healthiest most natural ecological option; cut one's own wood and burn it for local sustainability. there is truly no perfect solution! my sister and several friends have been heating their homes only or mainly with wood burning stoves for years. Fireplaces must be worse. At a friend's last summer, he made a fire most or all evenings, in the living room I slept in. I opened the window wide as soon as I was on my own each evening. Glad I did.

Gloomy drippy day here. My labradoodle discovered her heritage today. She is 1/2 labrador retriever and 1/2 standard poodle, both water dogs. Usually she sidesteps puddles but today we were walking in the riding arena and she decided it was great fun to gallop back and forth in the puddles along the edge. She came in with wet and muddy paws and belly from all the splashing.
I am leaving Christmas up until Epiphany. I like having the lights on when it gets dark so early.
Kim - Hugs to you.
Viv - Sending healing angels.
Allie - Have patience. As I recall DH was sore for a long time after bypass surgery. Remember they have split your breastbone and wired it back together. It takes a while for that to heal fully.
Rebecca - I have some calendars for you if you still want some. Mine all have critters on them, horses, donkeys, goats, dogs and cats. Let me know.
Welcome to those who are new, keep coming back.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA
I will private message you my address!💖🙃😂😁
Thank you in advance!

Dang it on the video. It was Athena talking, but it must be because daughter in law has her settings set to friends only.

I had gone quite a bit over my net today. Did 1h on the stationary at a good pace and burned 410 calories (had HR monitor on finger much of time, so could get fairly precise calorie burn calculation I think (w/ weight-hr-time). Still about 250 over today's net but about 110 under on average past 10 days so hopefully ok...time will tell.
probably very good side effect to have gotten good WO.1 -

I avoid fire because it triggers my asthma faster than anything. But I do love the smell of fireplaces burning.
My procedure went well yesterday, though I still don't have confidence it will repair me. I guess I'll know in a couple of months. The mister is having knee issues and there is COVID, so we can't really plan much anyway right now. I may as well wait and see for a bit.
I can't do much in the way of exercise for a week or so. Just walking, so that's what I'll do. I'm not supposed to lift anything over 10 pounds for a while either, so may not be able to take my ailing bike into the shop on Thursday.
Katla - Sorry about your trip! Feel better soon and I hope you get those glasses fixed soon. I bet you can get your prescription and get them fixed anywhere without having to make the trek to the city.

Kayla sorry about your fall!
Tina glad your procedure went well. Take it easy and recover!

My dad is worried about my mom's loss of memory, and whether it is time to move to assisted care. I said they aren't really having problems, other than the grocery shopping. And I'm not sure what assisted care would do that I can't do. They are so reluctant to turn things over to me. I know this phase of the three of us won't go on forever, but I'm not ready for them to move out. I keep telling them to get a doctor's geriatric memory assessment. And learn some memory tricks from the experts. So I'm all stressed out again today.5

No internet for a couple of hours! X-finity has not been very reliable lately.
Anyway, Katla, sorry about your fall and, Rebecca, sorry the video of Athena talking didn't play.
Tina, hoping your procedure proves to work and you feel a lot better.

Katla, oh no, sorry you tripped! I hate falling, it rattles my skeleton!
Put stuff on my kitchen table, took pics and put it up on my for sale sites on Facebook (for free). In 5 minutes a lady said she'd take it all!
Minimalism is one step closer!

Aside from labelling things and posting reminder signs and calendars, I'm not sure there are many memory tricks.
