Well Happy New Year to all!
I have struggled with weight most of my life when I hit my target in 2005, I got pregnant and used it as an excuse to eat whatever, whenever . Over the last 9 years I have gained and lost, exercised and stopped using all excuses and extreme diets; as of today I am at my heaviest ever. After having my son I have found it quite difficult to lose like I did previously as the gym is not convenient in my life, we have a home gym that I don't use nearly enough.
This year I would like to do it different, but I feel I need additional motivation from people similar to myself without have the fear of being poached for money for this program and that program it is hard as there are so many people out there looking for vulnerable people who will buy their products, and I am not interested! I know that I need a space to feel comfortable to be open and honest ensuring I have an accountability to myself and others.
This month (January) I would like to set myself up with a workout of my choice and watch and choose my food choices wisley. It seems so hard to know what is good and what is bad nowadays so my focus will be the obvious no sugar and limited refined carbs which are one of my weaknesses. Hopefully this will start my weight loss goal of 5-8 pounds by the end of the month.
I do love the idea of many accountability partners, thank you feel free to add me

Well, I thought I posted last week but I forgot to hit post🤦♀️. I'm a 35 yo mother to a beautiful 6yo daughter currently doing the stay at home mom gig and homeschooling due to covid. I am trying to get healthier and set a better example for my little girl. So far I got a stationary bike (and put her bike in the house with the training wheels people up) so we can ride together and we got the ring fit for the nintendo switch to help make getting some more movement into our day in a fun way. My Dr also started me on Contrave last week to help with this journey.

@uyister Thank you so much for that suggestion. I looked it up on YouTube
Hi again everyone! Checking in... Weight is kind of stuck, very slow BUT downward so that's good. I began weight lifting again today. I'm still struggling with my back but was told to go about exercise as usual and just not do anything that causes me pain. So, that's what I'm doing. I ate kind of yucky this past weekend but I don't regret it. I'm really trying to find balance this time around and keep myself from any extremes in either direction. I'm doing really good on water intake. All and all I'm feeling good! I also met my step goals today so.. little victories! Keep up the great work everyone.5 -
Hello everyone! Haven't posted before but been on and off mfp for years tried noom for a week but feel more comfortable here😊 and it's cheaper.

My motivation is to not be ashamed of myself when eating in front of people. To show my daughters what healthy means. To see if my last year of laziness and low energy is from depression or not. To stray away from being pre-diabetic.
I know I can't work a miracle by 40, but the confidence a little weight loss brings is truly amazing.

I know it's water weight, but I've made good food choices and am happy with myself. Unfortunately I messed up my back and am restricted to no exercise for a bit. But hopefully will be given the ok by next week! 12 pounds to go for my baby goal on 3/25!4 -
Good Tuesday morning! Or is it? One of my children just threw up oh yay!!! (Note the over powering sarcasm) I am pretty sure I have a sinus infection (which always happens when I am trying to lose weight) my right cheek bone screams I. Pain with every step I take. I am doing well keeping within my calories limits and I am not hungry. But I don't feel satisfied. I know it's because I am still detoxing. How long will that fight go on??? Sometimes I just don't want to eat at all if it has to be healthy food, lol. But I also know I have to train my body to crave the healthy stuff. I can't give in to the junk. I know if I give in just a little I will give up completely. I know some people will say don't be so hard on myself, but I know how I do, so being strict (at least for the first few weeks) is the best thing for me.
I hope you all have a great Tuesday!! Looking forward to reading about your successful days!!

Good morning,
Well, I started working out yesterday and I rolled over this morning and felt every muscle in my abdomen lol.
It is a good owie feeling tho. I workout in the afternoons on days I work and mornings my days off. That works best for my schedule.
A question what is too low for calorie goals? I am set at 1300 right now and that seems to keep me satisfied for most part.
Have a good day.6 -

Good morning
Those sound like great goals. Good luck! You can do it!3 -
@changeforeverlj your running loop it gorgeous. Right now it is 19° and overcast, snow falling lightly. Too bad I love the sun, I'm super jealous you have such beautiful weather. Enjoy it, I'll enjoy it vicariously through you.3

@Angief05 thank you! Hope so. Feeling very out of control of life at the moment...taking charge of my health will hopefully help1

Fighting the good fight. Struggling this week with TOM cravings (why is chocolate so dang necessary during that time?). I am doing my best to be kind to myself with being as mindful as possible and making the best decisions but with how sore I am I cannot beat myself up for not having the drive to exercise on top of my usual busy life. I also need to get the detox going so that I can start to avoid the sugar again. Still working on that from the Holidays but I am NOT going to be "working on it from the Holidays" for the rest of the year. Like a post on here says "It is more important what you do between New Years and Christmas than what you do between Christmas and New Years". This is the important time. I can do this and will do this. Because I WANT THIS - more than what I want in the moment.4

I've been really struggling to get back into a routine after the holidays. Stressed to the max with my Mom's dementia and all that surrounds that as her caregiver. Now my husband is gone home to the DR in the midst of this pandemic -- his Mom died last April and he hadn't been able to go until now, so we have no idea when he will be back given how quickly things change in the airline industry these days. They're having her funeral on the 22nd...I'm the only family member not there. Feel guilty but I won't be traveling until I have a vaccine. So now life on my own in the winter. It's just a lot. Had my very first full blown panic attack last Thursday. Truly thought I was having a heart attack. And it's funny what your head thinks of in those moments. I was thinking, are you kidding me? I finally start down this road to fitness and health & wellness and NOW I'm having a heart attack? I wasn't. It was a panic attack. He left Saturday. And I have laid pretty low since then. I even took a day and a half off work but back at it this afternoon.
Digging deep and going back to my roots for my weekly goals: Going to work on being kind to myself; listen to my body; listen to my mind. And back to the adulting lessons I gave myself back in June -- healthy adults do NOT eat like this and they DO eat well and DO exercise.
And...we'll see from there. I want to run so hopefully I can convince myself to do that in public some one of these days (it's cold and raining here today but tomorrow's forecast looks better). I miss the runner's high and I know in my gut it will just take one time to bring me back. There's just that irrational fear of people seeing me run to overcome!
Much love to all of you as you navigate this January! Your successes are certainly egging me on to join you!!12 -
I feel like I’ve accomplished something! I’ve had 2 days in a row with keeping my carbs below 100. Woo Hoo!!
It’s the little things.
Also, a friend of mine suggested a devotional called, “Crave”. It helps you to rather than putting your attention of craving for food you put your attention to God. The whole point is craving God in your life rather than food. I have really enjoyed it. I thought someone here might want to check it out.5 -
@Angief05 - you had asked what is too low for calorie goals. I would say that any calorie goal that is a struggle to maintain day in and day out is too low. Everyone has 'hungry' days when its a struggle. But if every day feels like a hungry day, than you are making it too hard. Remember, people who successfully lose a lot of weight do so by sticking with it. While reducing the size of your deficit means you will lose more slowly, in the end, it doesn't matter if it takes forever to get to your goal weight, because the changes that you need to make to get there also need to last forever.4
-
@iloveeggnog I'm sorry you're dealing with all that right now, it sounds hard. But it also sounds like you've got a plan and that's good! I wish your husband safe travels.
So, this week I planned ahead and packed myself some peanuts to snack on in the afternoons. An ounce is really plenty of them lil salty bois, and while I'm at work I have to walk all the way upstairs to refill my water, so there's my NEAT I guess. Maybe I'll get some raisins and make some DIY trail mix, I've got some semi-sweet chocolate chips that I need to do something with. Trail mix has to be at least a little more nutritious than cookies, right?
I also have a dilemma that I'm sure plenty of us can relate to. I am very badly in need of new bras - I've lied to myself for almost three years about fitting the 40DDDs I picked up at Walmart. I took my measurements and came up with 44I US/44G UK as a starting point. I ordered a handful in that size and tried them on, one of them fit well enough to keep but I returned the rest. Problem: That one bra was $70, and ideally, it's going to be too big in a matter of weeks or months. Right now it fits on the loosest hook so I have a little bit of room to work with, but UGH. I know even small bras are feats of engineering, so like, I get it, I get why my industrial-strength boulder holders cost so much. Just. UGH. I've put off buying properly-sized bras for Too Dang Long, rationalizing that ~i'M tRyiNg tO LoSe wEiGhT, tHeY wOn'T FiT iN a MoNtH~, and then it's a month later and surprise I'm still fat. Maybe if I do drop a couple hundo on new bras it'll actually happen.7 -

Even though I am trying to take it slow so I don't try to do all the things, fail, and give up, I am disappointed with my -.6 loss. I worked so hard and was hungry a lot. I definitely was disappointed when I weighed in. But my healthy habits are starting to feel routine so that is a plus.
Never be disappointed. That just sets you up to make poor choices due to the guilt and shame you put upon yourself. Always get curious of where your body is at. In my daily food journal, I record my mood, rate my depression and mood and write out any explanation as to why I made poor choices. For example, I made a homemade pizza and knew I should have only at one or two pieces at most, but I choose to eat 3. I wrote down my thought that supported that...."I put a lot of energy into making it, I deserve 3 pieces." This is the pattern that I can watch for throughout my journey. Then, re-evaluate and problem solve those maladaptive thinking patterns when I am able to do so. You've got this!5 -
@goal06082021 lol, I've barely worn a bra in the last year. I really want to order a new one or two, as well as some new comfy walking pants but I told myself I can't buy any new clothing until I hit under 200 lbs. What the heck, I never leave the property anyway. I am hoping that I hit "One-derland" by the first day of spring.
Hello to all the new people! It's great that you are taking a step toward accountability. I know for me, just logging in the food and exercise makes a big difference because it makes me really consider my choices. I'm doing really well holding to between 1200 and 1400 calories, and keeping up with my walking program, which is my main form of exercise for now. As the weather gets better, I will add in bicycling and I'm really looking forward to that!6 -
@summerhaze71 Thank you for your post! That is a great idea. I need to start thinking about my mood and my food choices. I have A LOT of maladaptive thinking patterns around food!4
-
@grammalisa oh my!! A new bra will make you feel sooo much better...and smaller underwear, splurge, it can keep you motivated. Continual new underwear is a must (my own bias). It helps you also see your progress. Also measure and run it in a bra size calculator, you might be very surprised to see your new size.
@KMC55 chocolate is okay, just log it within daily goals. I eat darker chocolate. About 6 squares is about 160 cals. That reminds me I had some junior mints I forgot to log, whoops. 130 cals for 12. I man however resisting a box of chocolates I have. Probably have a few in February.
@iloveeggnog sorry to hear of the dementia mgmt, that’s tough. Make sure you sign up or are tapped into a support group for caregivers....sleep can become really disruptive for you. My family has had to deal with this, difficult. Do t feel guilt about not going, my goodness you are carrying a lot, everyone should understand.
I need to keep reminding myself that slow and steady is my strategy. .5 to .75lbs a week will equate to 15-20 lbs by July. Which is where a I want to be. I have stayed under 207 for the last month. I started this month at 203, and .5 lb losses with regular water fluctuations takes about a month to see......patience....patience. Thinking about doing a 1 week detox/fasting (low cal) week start of feb...but not sure. I need a biggest looser ranch week, lol.

Hello 2021!!! I have never been happier for a new year.
Age: 39 Height: 5'6"
Highest: 272.2 (August 2019)
10/1: 239.4
11/1: 238.0
12/1: 236.7
01/04/21: 239.1
01/13/21: 239.1
January Goal: 229 - 10lbs a month for the first 4 months of the year.
Well, this year did not start out as I would have liked but I have also been kicked pretty hard by TOM so I can't let it defeat me. Now I can put that behind me and get a better start to the year. I will NOT let this year slip by with staying the same, I will NOT let my health and weight goals fall by the wayside again this year. I need to remember that the cravings are only temporary and I just have to resist them. It isn't something that can't be overcome. Track, exercise, and be kind to myself. Next week will be a loss!!!6 -
GrammaLisa, you are too funny, made me smile today with your post. I am finding I need to break to eat( taught 5 hours of Zoom classes yesterday. Still getting out each day for my walk but we are in another 28 day lock down here in Ottawa.
I am so grateful though as I read through the posts it sure is not an easy time. Amazing when you think about it we are all still focusing on our health goals too.
Stay safe everyone, sending positivity your way today!4 -

The pandemic prompted me to put my health as a #1 priority. I didn't do that at first, when the lockdowns started. I spent a lot of time lounging on the sofa, watch TV and snacking my way into a bigger size. Then, I thought, what the heck am I doing to myself and got on board with taking care of my health.

I'm having real problems finding comfortable bras a size down. The issue got put off a bit with December weight gain, but as I lose that I'm feeling it in my shoulders again.... the band is too loose, and I'm hanging a lot of weight off my shoulders. The 34Gs I got were pretty but only had 2 hooks, and that felt really unstable. I'm used to a broad 4-hook back band. Am ordering some new bras in an 34H to see if that ends the cup spillage that I had in those G cups. And am hoping that I lose some weight in that dimension because otherwise I will definitely be getting a reduction when I get my weight lost, and that fast and early.4

@uyister - we're almost MFP twins!
I've been on MFP on and off for 10 years, the last significant run was leading up to my wedding in 2018 when I lost 56 lbs in a year. I moved from the UK to Ireland in January 2020 and was looking forward a pretty significant reset of life, with weight loss being a major focus as I was at 220, up from my wedding weight of 179. I went the other way what with the pandemic and a really horrible few months in my new job, but I knew what I was doing when I treated myself to food and drink and avoided exercise, and knew that when I felt strong enough I would have the knowledge and the strength and the support (through channels like this ) to get back on track. That time is now!
Feeling pretty confident this time around, I've tried something new by setting myself mini goals with meaning (previous starting weights, % of body weight lost etc) which break the journey into no more than 10lbs, it's a new tactic but one I like and hope I'll stick to! Really looking forward to going on this journey with you all.12 -
