Strava put my HM distance at 2:00:59
And Garmin put it at 2:02:31 - I'm guessing because GPS vs course.
What would you count as your record? It's a big difference!
Duh, I’ve worked it out. The course was 300m long so yes, your half was 2:00:59. Take it. This means I can take about the same off my time. Unfortunately, even with this, it still doesn’t make it into my top 10 results.
Wow 300m!
Yeah strava shows the full time, and that my HM time was 2:00:59. And yeah garmin shows I ran a distance of 21.37k.
Makes that sub 2hr more likely haha
Well done both @Avidkeo and @ContraryMaryMary on your races!
This happened to me in one of my half marathon races, the course was 13.3 miles long so instead of taking the chip time as my official time, everyone went by their watches/Garmin as it was 0.2 miles over. Some of the faster/elite runners even made complaints to the race organisers about the course length.
@Avidkeo that means you were almost sub 2 hours which is fantastic 😀4 -
@Avidkeo Awesome racing! You are killing it!
@ContraryMaryMary Sorry you had such a bad race. That sounded miserable.
It's cool that you guys got to meet up!2 -
18.4/70 miles
4/3: 6.2 miles
4/5: 4 miles
4/6: 4.1 miles
4/9: 4.1 miles
This was one of those runs where I made up the route by talking myself into going just a little farther every few minutes. I wanted to turn around after a mile and a half. So I turned and gave myself a new endpoint. Made it there, did it again. Over and over until I ended up actually doing my run.
I've been worn out this week and not really wanting to exercise. I'm pretty sure it's stress. We are house hunting for a vacation/eventual retirement house. The early stages of finding an agent, financing, learning that the market is more competitive than you even thought are stressful for me and most of that coordination is mine to do. Once we get going, the stress will get better. But I have learned over this past year that high stress definitely makes me not want to work out. I hit a similar slump early in COVID lockdowns.
I ended up skipping my sat morning run because I also had to work a bit and I just didn't want to feel rushed on my sat morning. I hate skipping long runs, but I needed this for my mental health. I'll do it instead of speed work on Monday.7 -
I’m 13 pages behind, so I’m not even going to try to catch up on that. Work has been bad all around lately, and it is only going to get worse over the next few months with staffing. I anticipate I will be working more and on call a lot more, so the only goal I am going to set is to do some sort of run or exercise 3x/week. I did interview for another job this week, so maybe that will work out.
Anyway, no more complaining.10 -
@kgirlhart So glad to hear that your hip is doing good. Fingers crossed that you don't have any side affects from the vaccine.
@martaindale I hope you get things going soon and your stress level goes down. Good on you for doing what you need to for your mental health!
@marisap2010 Hope things work out for the new job. The current one sounds really stressful at the moment.

Woke up early to fit in a longer run before the kids got up. Was tired and not feeling it but made myself get ready. Heard the kids stirring and hoped they would stay calm over the next 70 minutes as I left (big ask for kids on the spectrum).
My legs felt like lead and at about the 1/2 mile mark my HRM started reading high (the backup to the other one). Since it felt tougher than normal I walked and took my own pulse to find the HRM was about 20 beats high at which point I started going by feel. Soon after the HRM was reading normal again. Finished the rest of the way and was feeling pretty good by the end.
Got home to find my wife completely stressed out from the kids so I took over watching them while she gets a sanity break. They're being quiet for me, at least for now. That will change though. I'm hoping there isn't going to be any discussions about my time out in the early morning. She's pretty understanding and flexible, but our kids can find the breaking point in anyone and anything.10 -
Math was never one of my strengths...It looked to me like she was finished, but a PB is a PB, whether or not Tramboman calls it early.6 -

Partly sunny, upper 50s F today, with the same old nagging breeze from the south. Didn't intend to run as fast as I did, but my legs just ran away with my body and brain.
Well done, @Avidkeo and @ContraryMaryMary !!!!!
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)8 -
Following my 10 mile trail run yesterday, today I did a 11.7 mile trail/mountain run. Legs were a little achy and elevation was 2,126 feet. I have an Ultra Marathon coming up in September and whilst it is still a few months away (unless it gets postponed again for the 3rd time due to Covid) I need to make a start on my training.
April cumulative: 40/100 miles - 3,640 feet of elevation.8 -
@Avidkeo - awesome race!
@ContraryMaryMary - I hope you are feeling ok and not coming down with something. It is terrible to feel that way in the middle of the race. Was there anything you ate or didn't eat that could account for it?
I think is awesome that you two were able to meet up IRL and spend a bit of time together! I do find it interesting when sanctioned courses end up being long. I mean how exactly does that happen? And the Elites have every right to be upset especially if it was a qualifier for another big race and the 'extra' kept them from getting that entry.
@martaindale - Hope you can get the stress worked out. Running was always my stress reliever and it got so bad that whenever I got just a little stressed I wanted to get outside, even when I knew I couldn't. Buying any kind of house right now would be tough. Seems like the market everywhere is going crazy.
@marisap2010 - I hope the new job comes through for you!
I haven't updated my running mileage yet. I ran on Friday, had a great run and then all kinds of life emergencies that left me exhausted yesterday. I will come back and update after I get a run in this morning.
I came across this site for trail and Ultra running and I know several have asked about finding groups in their area. It is mostly No America focused but there is lots of great information, resources and tips if you are interested in getting started with either. You can find local trail running groups within each state or province as well as races.

Congrats again @Avidkeo on your HM PR! That is so awesome. And great that you got to meet up with @ContraryMaryMary. I thought you two had met IRL before now. @ContraryMaryMary sorry your race didn't go as well as you hoped. Feeling sick during a race is so miserable. Very impressive that you finished!
13.5 miles this morning. Took it pretty slow the first half. Went the opposite way on a segment coming out of the trail system, and forgot what the name of the street was that I normally turn down. I was lost for a moment, so I had to turn around and go back. That gave me a few extra KMs, and ended up with the longest run of the year so far. I was sure I have gone more than an HM this year, but I guess not.

8.25 miles today for my long run. It wasn't particularly long, but I am still trying to take it easy on the hip and it was my longest run this week. It was really nice out and I enjoyed the run. I was really only planning to run a 10K, but it just felt so good to run and I was enjoying the beautiful morning so much I just kept on going. After the run I went to get my second covid vaccine. I am hoping that I won't have side effects, but I am planning on tomorrow being a rest day.

I never got a bike, and to be honest that's why I started running again. Over the last several months as I went by an old, distant running point I would recall the feeling of going all the way out there and back and felt a call to do that sort of thing again. I considered a bike so I could quickly reach those points (and beyond) but I already had a bunch of running gear!
Kansas is still very hilly since I'm in the same place! Except to the east and south of me which are the regular old flat Kansas. I am sticking to the flat routes for now. One of my older hilly routes would kill me! I'm so slow and out of shape! Hopefully by mid summer I'm tackling those hills again.7 -
@WhatMeRunning I'm glad your run got better the longer you went. Sometimes I wonder about my Garmin and it's HR monitor, but, when I'm not running and check it, it's usually pretty close. It will spike sometimes, which I find weird and pretty much ignore. Hope you didn't reach your breaking point too.
Great run @Tramboman !
Nice running @sweetdaisy13 ! How many miles is your Ultra?
Nice @Scott6255 !
@kgirlhart ! Glad you had such a nice run and your hip is doing better. Fingers crossed for no side affects from the shot.
@pfeiferlindsey Yay for getting to run with your husband. It's nice when spouses can run together.

There was a cool wind blowing today and, being the wimp I am, I chose to do my run on the treadmill while watching NCIS: New Orleans. I knew I was going to do my longest run since my surgery, if I could, so went slowly. I did run/walk intervals of 4/1 minutes. The walks were at 3.8 mph and the runs were sort of a ladder - starting at 4.5 up to 4.8 and back down to 4.6 in tenth of a mile increments and 2 repeats on each step as I went. It was fairly easy and I was able to keep my HR down to an average of 151. I'm good with that. The run was right at an hour.7 -

I really missed you runnin’ buddy! Good to know the only hills are cow dung, eh? Lol! Maybe one day we can do that garmin half, er 5k for me. I’ll have to check in more to see what you’ve been up too and how the running goes. Still toying with minimal shoes? And sock paint? Or did you crossover and buy hoka’s?2
