Nice runs @sweetdaisy13 and @WhatMeRunning !
Good luck with your CoVID shot @sweetdaisy13 . I have now had both and the day I got them. I just had a sore arm. Mom did get a little bit of CoVID arm last night, 4 days later, but it was better today.

Thank you @quilteryoyo. Going to see how I feel afterwards, but will be sensible.2

@shanaberIt is a good thing to have monitored regularly especially by a doctor who is also an athlete.
Yes. When I was telling him about how I ran and the plans I had, he understood what I was talking about.
5.15 miles, 40F, this morning. I ran at the lakefront park. Saw the first heron of the year. Tried to take a picture but he flew off while I was trying to get my phone. It started to rain about halfway. Very few people were around and it was a pleasure to be running in the rain.
Today: 5.15 miles.
April total: 28.29 miles.7 -
@shanaber Hobbes looks like he’s having so much fun!
10k at Shelby Farms last night - my husband and I are continuing to return to the places we used to go now that we are a week from being fully vaccinated. We gave up on Shelby Farms a year ago when it just got swarmed with people during lockdown. No lockdown now but it’s still swarmed! Like, “Excuse me, excuse me, on your left, ON YOUR LEFT PLEASE!!!!” Large families of walkers side by side across the entire path. And then getting run over by speed cyclists in full race kit. Sometimes both at once. Actually most of the cyclists were pretty cool, friendly and gave plenty of warning, I think they appreciated that we got over single file when we heard them coming, UNLIKE EVERYBODY ELSE! Geez.
Anyway we have missed running there. It’s fairly hilly for Memphis and we used to enjoy doing races there because we would hit the hills and the other racers would audibly groan and we would be like, “Haha, we trained here!” and just trot straight up. Or not, there are actually a couple of short hills which are steep enough that I make better time during a race walking them and saving my energy for later. In any case, we have not been running nearly enough hills recently. Thought we were gonna lay down in the middle of the road and just give up about mile 5. But we got it done, and hopefully next week it will be easier!
We park over near the riding stables and walk over to look at the horses after running. I vaguely remember reading once upon a time that the University of Memphis has a program studying horse color genetics using the horses there. I am going to have to look it up, because I never saw so many colors in one field. There’s appaloosas, black blanket, red blanket, varnish, leopard spotted, various types of pinto, buckskin, palomino, Isabella, red road and blue roan, gray, bay, wild type bay with huge amounts of pangare, chestnut, and I feel like I’m forgetting some. Tried to take pictures but at any distance my camera makes horses look like little dots. In the same field, also a donkey and 21 deer!7 -
@quilteryoyo - oh yes, a good cleansing cry as well. Very therapeutic.
@rheddmobile how cool. I would love to see all those different colored horses. So beautiful.

I ran in the cold rain for the third time this week, which has gotten a little old. My friend and I felt proud of ourselves for running in the rain on a Friday after work. But seriously, I'm well over it now. Sunday fortunately looks better for my HM.6 -

I had a good catch up with my coach yesterday, working out a plan for the rest of the year. I will be working towards a new PB at the Auckland Half on October 31 (see you there @avidkeo) but in the interim, we're going to do a bit of work on my 10k race pace - looking to set a blistering new PB at the end of July. All my 5k and 10k PBs have been set during half marathons, so surely I can go faster, right?
I'm also entered in my first marathon, a trail run on August 8, which I'm told is now an ultra as they've changed the course and it's now 45km. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Well, I do, actually: Very apprehensive. 1260 metres of elevation too - most of it from 32-42km by the looks. Yikes! It's a girls' weekend away so not so much a race as an all day run! I guess I can always drop down to the half (which is 22.5km incidentally). I'll see how I feel in a few months time. Upshot is, quite a few trail run adventures in my future.
However, for the next few days, I'm taking the children away on holiday and won't be doing any running in an effort to shake this virus we all have - yesterday's run, while on pace, was harder than it should have been and my heart rate about 15BPM above where it usually would be at that pace.8 -
@emptydog Glad you enjoyed your run in the ran.
@rheddmobile Yeah for getting to run at Shelby Farms again, even if the crowds weren't very polite. You'll get your hill legs back soon. I would love to see all of those horses together!
@katharmonic Glad the music and cry were therapeutic. I'm glad it looks like there won't be rain for your HM. You will do great.
@AlphaHowls I hear ya. I can't believe it's the middle of April already.
@ContraryMaryMary You are going to kill your PB's on the 10K. I just feel it! Congratulations on entering your first marathon! You can do it. You are so consistent with your training. Enjoy your holiday and hope the break helps you all hear from the virus.1 -

Really had to give myself a pep talk to take the first step today. I just wasn't feeling it. I told myself, "Just get up and do it. You will feel better when you are done. I promise. And, if I'm wrong....well, then you can say I lied. If you get going and really feel the need to stop or just walk, you can. But, you have to get going."
It turned out to not be bad at all and my back was okay. I ran the treadmill because I thought it was a little chilly outside, the pollen is pretty bad, and I wanted to control the incline and speed. My workout today called for 5 min Zone 1 (4.2 mph) 5 min Zone 2 (4.5 mph) , 3 x (2 min zone 4 (5.0 mph)/2 min zone 1), 5 min zone 1. I actually did an extra 7:15 minutes in zone 1 to reach 2.50 miles. And, the big news is I RAN THE ENTIRE THING (34:15 minutes)! First time I have done that since my surgery! I'll still take walk breaks on some of the runs - especially the longer ones. But, I am going to try to run more of the shorter ones with no, or fewer walk breaks.
So, I'm glad I had that little talk with myself and I was right. I did feel better afterwards.

I realized tonight that I hadn’t checked in for almost a week. I just read through several pages and got caught up. I think there is a good chance I will miss my goal this month, but it’s close. Maybe I will make it.
We found a house! Honestly, we got lucky and found a house on some land that we loved and the people seemed to feel like we were the right people for the house so they were quick to take our offer. The stressful part is winding down and now it’s just exciting! Closing at the end of May but they are doing a lease back for a month or maybe two so we won’t get into the house until July or August. Just gives me more time to furniture shop, which I am absolutely doing every spare minute I have!9 -

I had a couple of good rest days for my achy feet. I thought I might have to take another rest day yesterday since we've been having thunderstorms, but it was good when I got up so I ran 5K in my new shoes. It was a good run.
I am going to take it pretty easy this week before my race on Saturday. So instead of my usual 8 to 10 mile Sunday long run tomorrow I am planning 5.3 miles for my birthday. And then just a couple of shorter runs during the week so I will be well rested for the race.
2021 Races:
4/24/21: Run For The Children 10K
11/6/21: Run For 57th AHC Half Marathon

Sunshine! I told a friend late last night I would meet her at 7:30 if she wanted to or I would just sleep in if she didn't want to, which I totally thought she would pick the latter.. She called my bluff on that one and said let's do it. Just a nice easy run today to stretch the legs. I stopped at the gym and sat in the sauna for a while after.
I'm kind of in denial about tomorrow's HM race. A friend is picking up my packet and I really haven't even looked into any of the logistics of it yet. I better get my act together soon.7 -

It it beautiful here today! Cool and breezy. I actually wore long sleeves for my run this morning. I probably could have gotten away with short sleeves but the wind made it feel chilly. I did an out and back so I had some sections with a serious head wind. But, I also got the serious tailwind on the way back. I feel like o never get the tailwind, so I appreciated every easy second of it!
Yesterday after running we worked in the yard getting the last of the dead stuff out of our front beds, weeding, and planting flowers and spring veggies. Yard work and gardening always make me feel so accomplished!5 -
@martaindale congrats on finding a house! That's exciting.

I had my second COVID-19 shot on Tuesday. I felt fine that evening but woke up feeling like I had been run over by a bus on Wednesday morning. No fever or nausea. My body wasn’t really achy but the kind of sore you get from a really hard workout. As the day progressed, I became completely exhausted. Thankfully, I woke up Thursday morning feeling good. Needless to say, not much running for me this week. Yesterday, I hike to Mt. Cammerer in the Smoky Mountains. It was a little chilly when we started at 7:00 am and only warmed up to about 61F but by late morning the sun had come out and that was a nice treat. We saw some beautiful wildflowers in bloom. We didn’t encounter any other hikers on our way up. 4 miles of the trail was on the Appalachian Trail and on the way back from the lookout tower, we met several through hikers. It was so fun to get to chat and encourage them. Most of them were doing between 14 and 18 miles of hiking that day and had been on the trail for three weeks. For my rim-to-rim hike training, I hiked with 25 pounds of gear in my backpack. I was so glad to take it off at the end of the day! These through hikers probably have more than that and they do it day after day after day.View of the mountains from the topToday I ran the Joggin’ for a Noggin’ 5k. The race which is held in Limestone, TN benefits a brain injury rehabilitation center. I saw a friend that I had not seen for a couple of years so we ran together and chatted the entire route. Obviously, not much racing was going on for me but my legs were pretty sore from the hike and I had a great time.

@kgirlhart Happy Birthday, tomorrow. Glad you were able to run today after resting your feet. Hope the new shoes did the trick.
@katharmonic Good luck on your HM tomorrow! Looking forward to hearing how it went.
Sounds like a nice day @martaindale !
Thanks @Teresa502 ! I really need to start checking out the local races. I could have totally made it to Limestone today. Glad the side affects from your vaccine only lasted a day. Nice hiking...25 pounds in a back pack would make it so much harder. Love the pictures.

I had a lot of things I needed to get done today and I was feeling pretty exhausted, so did a mile to keep the streak alive. I did see another cute little calf laying by the driveway. It was in the owners field. When I stopped to take a picture, I scared it and it ran off before I could snap one.3 -
Hope you are feeling better soon @pfeiferlindsey
Congrats on the house @martaindandale enjoy the furniture shopping! Also congrats on finding an actual tailwind!
Sounds like a good taper @kgirlhart good luck next weekend, and happy b-day!!!
I suspect you will be 100% ready tomorrow @katharmonic because you already took care of the important stuff. The rest is just showing up and running it!
@Teresa502 sounds like a great hike and 5k!
@quilteryoyo nice work keeping the streak alive!4 -
Hey the Run the World challenge group is in Tennessee now! Better get ready @quilteryoyo they are just about to your house! And after that they will be on the way to my place in Memphis!

Today was a 5k tempo run on the railroad access road. We sure are slower than we were a month ago, not sure what happened there! Ran like crazy and did not even make it under 30 minutes, not long ago our tempo run there was more like 29. It seems like we are always slow on roads for a couple of months following the trail series, we learn a different style of running for trails, and the two are not compatible.
Pretty day for a run! We called for pizza on our way back and they said they were gonna deliver before we got home so we ran an extra half mile back to the car.10 -
@rheddmobile I meant to check yesterday, because I knew we were getting close. I took some pictures. Need to post them now, I guess.
Nice run @rheddmobile You're pace will come back soon. Hahaha about the pizza making you run an extra half mile.1 -
Just in case you get here a little bit quicker than I think, I'm posting pictures before I run today. Run the World Group. We are nearing Greeneville TN. Here are a couple of pictures I found from downtown in the internet.

Sunny, low 30s F, with a light breeze from the south. It was so frosty the grass in the shady spots looked like snow had fallen on it. Threw caution to the wind and just ran. Summer down below (shorts); fall in the middle (long sleeved tech shirt under a short sleeved tech shirt); and winter at the ends (warm socks; mitts, and a wool cap).
Happy birthday, @kgirlhart. I miss my teammate, but don't miss the grind of a numerical goal.
