@Tramboman Hahaha Love the description of your running wear today. Nice run.
@WhatMeRunning You are doing great.
For the Run The World group, and everyone else that's interested. Before getting to my house, you will pass through Tusculum TN. There isn't a lot there, expect for Tusculum College (University) which is where I went to college.
If I am not mistaken, it is the oldest college East of the Smoky Mountains.
One of the dorms I stayed in during the winter term so I didn't have to drive in the snow.
Next you will come to Greeneville. Obviously, it is a very historic little town in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. Additional pictures below.
This Presbyterian Church is known locally as the cannonball church.
Arial photo with the mountains in the background.
As you keep running, you will be within site of my house.
This is the view when you cross over the road behind my house. You have to look closely to see it up on top of the hill.
Close up so you can see it better.
If you detour a few feet, wave as you go by. I'll be sitting on my back porch, waving at you and cheering you on. It's a good thing you're here now, because in a few days my house will be hidden between a veil of leaves.
Here is the view from where you will be crossing the main road where I do some of my runs.
Enjoy your time in TN!10 -
Happy birthday @kgirlhart!!! Hope you have a great day. I'm excited for you for the 10k next weekend.
@Teresa502 beautiful hike! I have a hard time imaging the through hiking and all the gear you'd need, and endless miles. Amazing. Great job completing a 5k after that.
@quilteryoyo thanks for the running tour! Looks like we are fast approaching Tusculum as of now. It looks beautiful in your area. The cannonball church is very cool. I'd love to see the Smoky Mountains.4 -

This was the Earth Day Half Marathon and it was on a road course through lots of farm country. It was a beautiful day of what I would say is pretty perfect running weather. It was about 45 degrees and partly cloudy with sun coming out more fully every now and then. I wore a long sleeve shirt and capri running tights, and I wore a jacket at the beginning - only because I knew I had a place to ditch the jacket at about mile 5. Otherwise I probably would have skipped it and I definitely took it off well before 5 miles.
My two friends and I are doing the half marathon a month challenge and our goals are really to just get them done, so none of us were racing for any time goals. I also am still recovering from taking time off due to my back issues. My back was really good today, but my fitness and endurance still feels off. I also got really tight toward the end of the race in the glutes and hamstrings, which has been an issue related to my back I think so the last few miles were tough.
One friend has relatives who live right on the course at just over 5 miles in so we stopped there and said hello to her family who were out there to cheer and we dropped off our jackets and gloves. We spent several minutes there and I did stop my watch so my Garmin time reflects my running time but race time obviously includes that pit stop. We also stopped at the water stops along the way, which they had plenty of. It was a well run race overall.
So in the end it was a slow time for me, but it got done, I felt good for the most part, and it was a beautiful running day. I'm not sure I'm there yet physically or mentally to put together a good half marathon race closer to my PR time, but maybe I'll get there this year at some point. For right now, completion and feeling good are the goals.

I am sad to report that my 5 year old Garmin Forerunner 630 has ceased to be after an accidental drowning when I washed my hands under the faucet. Attempts to revive it by extracting the water with silica gel packets were unsuccesful as the display was declared unresponsive at an undetermined time (due to no watch display) but roughly around 11:15am. There was no way to open it or shut it off to prevent the eventual freak out which the display endured until it finally became unresponsive. Attempts to reset were met only with a haptic feedback pulse but no other visible means of functionality.
A short service was held with great wailing and gnashing of teeth quickly followed by my wife suggesting I attend an ordering ceremony to summon a new Garmin Forerunner 245.
I will be forced to run blinded and naked until the new watch arrives sometime on Tuesday.
Thanks for sharing the photo tour @quilteryoyo it made my coming here a lot more smiley.11 -
Sounds like a fun event @katharmonic Glad you were feeling good the whole way through!1

I missed half of March and 2/3 of April posts, but at least I have been running... sort of. I had a few speed wobbles at the end of March/early April when I didn't run for a few days or weeks, but I'm trying to be consistent now.
I haven't set a distance goal for April, I just want to run consistently. I'm on day 14 of a streak to run at least 1 mile per day. I don't have any idea how long I'll streak for, but so far it's giving me motivation to just keep moving.6 -
@quilteryoyo Thanks for the pictures, you live in a beautiful area
@kgirlhart Happy birthday!
@katharmonic Great job on getting the HM done
@WhatMeRunning My condolences on the dead 630. RIP. Wishing you speedy delivery on your new 2453 -

I ran 5.3 miles for my birthday! It was a great run. The weather was perfect for running. The sun was shining and it was a beautiful spring day. I thought I was going to get my run done in 53 minutes, but I came in at 54.07. So close. I could have done it, but I didn't really realize that I was going to be close to 53 minutes for 5.3 miles until I was almost home. But it was still a good birthday run. Now I am just planning a few easy runs before the race on Saturday. I am hoping to feel well rested and not tired and achy.
Thanks for the birthday wishes @scott6255, @Teresa502, @quilteryoyo, @whatmerunning, @tramboman, @katharmonic & @kirstymn!

Great pictures @quilteryoyo! Your town is beautiful. Thanks for the tour.
Way to go on running your HM @katharmonic!
Nice birthday tribute run @kgirlhart!
Sorry for your loss @WhatMeRunning. But nice that your wife let you order a new one. My 9 year old Garmin 235 is still holding up nicely, but I look forward to the day I will need to upgrade.
13.1 miles for me this afternoon. Was a very nice day for a run, so I just enjoyed being outside. Ended up being a reasonable HM at 1:58.

Thanks @Scott62550
-
@katharmonic You're welcome. I think the cannonball church is pretty cool too. This part of the country is very pretty. Sounds like you had fun running your HM! Finishing healthy is always the goal! You're doing great and will get the speed back.
I am so sorry for your loss @WhatMeRunning ! Glad you were able to attend the ordering ceremony arranged by your dear wife. Glad the pictures made you more smiley.
@kirstymn You're doing great with your streak. It does help motivate you to get out and do something.
@kgirlhart Nice birthday run. It would have been cool had you gotten it done in 53 minutes too. But still a great run!
@Scott6255 Your welcome. Glad you enjoyed the tour. Great run today. Awesome time.2 -
After I added my morning run, we're about 4 miles from my house! I just think that is so cool. I'll be waving at you.6

I actually got up early to get my run in this morning so it wouldn't be looming over my head all day. I ran on the treadmill again, for all the same reasons and so that I could listen to church while I did my cool down walk, since I got a later start than I intended. I did a modified ladder run/walk of 4/1 minutes. Went from 4.5 - 4.8 mph X 2 on each level. At that point, I was near 3 miles and ready to give up...more mental than physical. So, I gave myself a break and ran 4 min @ 4.2 and then one at 4.7 before continuing going down the ladder back to 4.5. It was a pretty rough day, mentally, because at 1:05:00 minutes wanted to slow to 4.2 mph again, but I told myself that it would only be 2 more minutes and I COULD do 4.5 for two minutes. And, I was right, of course. The 5 miles took me 1:07:33 h:mm:ss - average pace 4.4 mph. Slow, but I'll take it.
After the cool down walk, I decided to walk at a slower pace while finishing church. So, did an extra mile at 3.3 mph. The warm up and cool down mile was at 3.8 mph.
This afternoon, mom and I went to visit the puppies. They are 6 weeks old. I know dogs grow fast, but am still amazed at how much bigger they were today.
They didn't stay together very long. LOL
Ashley with the two boys.
Blue eyed girl.
Boys wrestling. I guess boys will be boys, even if they are puppies.
I'm a sucker for those eyes.
They won't be able to get under the car for very much longer.
You can tell how big they are here.
Me and one of the boys.7 -

@Tramboman – Glad you had at least three of the seasons covered.
@katharmonic – Congrats on completing your April half marathon! How convenient and fun that your friend had family along the route. Hope you can make it to the Smoky Mountains one day. I think you would enjoy hiking there.
You have my sincere condolences @WhatmeRunning. Glad you could summon up the strength to order a new Garmin!
@kirstymn – Streaks are hard but sometimes we need that goal to push us out the door.
Glad the weather was kind to you today @kgirlhart! Great birthday run!
@Scott6255 maybe @WhatMeRunning needs to show you how to properly wash up so that you can get a shiny new Garmin on its way to you.
Got out around 7:00 am this morning. It was mid-40s and very peaceful. I saw cows, horses and dogs. Only one human who waved at me as he was going in the back door of his house.

Great Half @katharmonic!
Lovely pictures @quilteryoyo! I love the cannonball church. And those puppies are adorable and getting so big!2 -
Just checking in quick. I was ready to bike this morning, opened the garage door and it had started raining. So I ran a mile instead, with some up and downhills, to see how my quad is doing. It started out fine, but by the end I could tell something's still wrong. This is ridiculous. I'm gonna try to find a physio.8
-
Hey! I recognize that church, I had to build a model of it for a video game!7

@polskagirl01 I hope you can get in to see a physio soon and figure out what is going on.

I had no way to use my HRM without my watch (due to it using ANT+ for connectivity) so I had to run by feel. I used Strava to record the timing and distance. It looks like I may have gone a little faster than I should have, but I don't think I pushed it too far to worry in the long term. I only have to do this today and tomorrow so as long as I'm not careless I should be able to skate by without any HR data.6 -
Whoa I'm way behind! Gonna post my last two distances and then catch up:

In the 30s today and foggy. I'm hoping there aren't too many really chilly days left, because I'm hoping to wait and buy cold weather gear a few sizes smaller next winter. :P But for today gloves and a hoodie suited just fine.5 -
Back after my absence.
The short story of it is that the family doctor was alarmed by a heart murmur that I have had all my life. He said it was getting worse. He told me no running, nothing strenuous, no lifting over 20 lbs. He made an appointment with the cardiologist for me for the following week. I worried the entire time.
Went to the cardiologist he examined me and said I was fine. No restrictions, go running, see him in a year.
Interestingly, the cardiologist is also a runner. He finished the doctoring part and then we had a nice running chat. Nice guy.
The loss of the running days is going to mess up this month's goal. But we shall persevere.
April to date: 20.01 miles.
I have a mitral valve prolapse which the dr can barely hear but showed up in a stress test. My cardiologist was the same - run run run. I think MVP is similar to murmur. I probably need to go back and get checked but not a lot of drs are taking appts yet for non emergent stuff. I do wonder if it's why my HR on great effort is a lot higher than "max predicted" for my age. <shrug>4 -
3.5 mile run (average pace 9:25 min per mile) this morning to drop off car at the garage for a service and 2.7 mile run (average pace 8:51 min per mile) this afternoon to go and pick up my car.
Still got an achy arm from my Covid vaccine on Saturday and feeling tired, but at least my headache has gone.6 -
quilteryoyo wrote: »@polskagirl01 I hope you can get in to see a physio soon and figure out what is going on.

It was going to be a turn based Civil War strategy game which never saw the light of day because after the protests the producer didn’t want to touch the subject matter. Pity but we get paid either way since we are contractors. It was fun to build for, I built a bunch of small towns in NC mostly.3 -
@WhatMeRunning It's amazing how hard it is to run without that darned watch. I'm sure you'll be fine for a few days running by feel.
@penguinmama87 Good idea to use what you have now and treat yourself to new running stuff after you lose weight. What a great reward!
@SummerSkier It's always good to keep a check on a minor heart issue, just to make sure it doesn't get worse.
@sweetdaisy13 I was bit confused about your post at first. "Why would you run to drop your car off? Did you push it?" Then I realized you probably meant the run was back home/work after you dropped it off and then back to pick it up. Nice way to get your run in and glad your headache is gone.
@rheddmobile Too bad the game didn't make it, but I do totally understand why. There were a lot of civil war battles in and around Greeneville, TN. We found, what we believe to be a civil war cannon ball in one of our fields.

I took Tippy to the vet today because she just hasn't been herself lately. Turns out she has a hypoactive thyroid, arthritis in her back, and is having some stomach issues. The last one I suspected as she has been eating grass. Hopefully all the meds I am now giving her will make her feel better.6 -
@quilteryoyo I hope Tippy will feel better now that she's got some meds on board.
@polskagirl01 I'm sorry about your quad. Hope you can figure out the problem and get it healthy again soon.

It was really nice this afternoon so I snuck out of work early and did my zoom meeting audio only while I walked the dog. Shhh, don't tell. It's a huge meeting so no one knew the difference and it makes it much more tolerable to multitask out in the sunshine. Then I had strength training tonight, so I decided to do a short run outside the gym before that. I was going to just take a rest day from running but again, so nice out.
