Partly cloudy, low 40s F, and a breeze from the northwest today. Felt good to be back outside, but my legs weren't happy after dragging that golf cart around through the swamp yesterday.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!

@quilteryoyo β Sorry that nasty stomach bug got you. It took me almost a week for my tummy to be back to normal.
@skippygirlsmom β I know you are so happy to have Skip back for the summer. You two be careful out there on those trails!
Love that jacket @shanaber!
@ContraryMaryMary β I had a sprained ankle in December but kept running on it because it didnβt hurt while running. It would swell up rather larger afterwards but unless I bent it to the side at a certain angle, I didnβt feel any pain. I finally went to ortho about a month ago. Anyway, Iβm writing all this to say that I had this swelling going on from December 26 up until about 3 weeks ago because I didnβt let it heal so if you can, get it checked out.
@penguinmama87 - Your βglampingβ trip sounds like so much fun!
Yesterday was a cool, rainy day but it stopped in the afternoon and I was able to go hiking after work. The trails were draining well so it wasnβt muddy like I thought it might be. Met a friend for a run at 5:00 am this morning. It was cool at 43F. I put my Garmin on the charger last night and forgot to get it this morning but I used my Strava app to track my run instead. We all know it doesnβt count if we donβt track it right?

Iβm still doing 1 mile walk (with dogs and now Skip), 1 mile run and 1 mile intervals, but now Iβm more like 1.25 run, .06 walk, .4 run, .06 walk to get in the rest and getting a full 1 of running if that makes sense.
Me too @quilteryoyo I forget how much she talks ha ha. Hope your feeling better.
@Teresa502 we will definitely be careful. I think Iβm going to get on the trails on Saturday, a friend who is getting back into running asked if I would go with her. She not like me she gets scared to be out there alone.
@ContraryMaryMary Iβve learned a lot about ankles these past few months. If itβs swelling you should get it checked out, if you sprained it and cause some ligament stretching itβs best to let it heal up then to keep pissing it off (thatβs my technical term) because you can keep having problems.
@summerSkier if a doctor tells me I canβt run I find another ha ha. I actually got up during an appointment with a back doctor because he went on and on about why I shouldnβt run and how I needed surgery etc. I went to PT for 3 weeks and never had another problem. I found a great orthopedic group with almost all runners and my physical therapist is a runner so they get it.
@AlphaHowls awesome streak!!!
Our local Fleet Feet takes donations too. The other day a local girl was looking for size 8 running shoes gently used for a group sheβs working with, itβs with our downtown mission so they certainly canβt afford running shoes. I was so happy to donate a pair of Brooks Ghost I donβt like to run in, they had no lie, less than 25 miles on them.
Monthly Question?
When you fall off the wagon, how do you recover?
I fell way off the wagon with eating so Iβm back to my 1200 calories a day, got on the scale the other day and I honestly sat in the bathroom crying. Now that Skip is home for the summer that will help and Iβm working from home most the summer so I can cook easier than going out. As far as running when I fall off, I sign up for a race or challenge to get me moving.
Vacation plans this summer/season?
We had planned to go to Utah hiking, but we need to put that off. I want to make sure Iβm 100% for long hikes and runs and climbing. We might go to Ohio to see my family and to Florida for the same reason.
What is your favorite non-running related hobby?
This is a hard one for me. I enjoy reading and working outside in the yard and hiking.
Races:
November 14 β Battleship 12K

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. And, thanks for telling me how long it took to recover @Teresa502 . My tummy was rumbling and going on all night and it just doesn't feel real good again today. I was beginning the think something else was going on. You're doing great with your running and hiking.
@kgirlhart Nice planning and nice run. Uneventful is good.
You're doing great with your recovery @skippygirlsmom !

Not much to report about for today's run other than I ran it! Well, ran and walked to keep the HR effort easy overall, but that's going to require more time (and even more importantly more weight loss).
It looks like the closest Fleet Feet to me is over 3 hours away in Wichita, but I'll check some of the local shoe stores about donation programs.5 -
Thank you @quilteryoyo0

That's crazy - he would've put you through surgery! Great for him, but not for you! I'm so glad you walked away from that one and found some good doctors.
I biked today, and did my PT stretches/rolling, and gardening and then extra work with the lacrosse ball on some spots, just to try to stay on top of things. Feeling good, I think7 -

May 9 5.03 (and may do a 2 mile sprint workout later weather cooperating) cum 53.52 for the month and 807 total ytd for the run the year challenge
May 9 turned into 7.1 total
May 10 turned into 11.34 total (don't ask but I was headed to a new PB for a 10K so I just did it.. )
May 11 4.2 in the mist. REST DAY!!! Total month to date 70.95 (probably a little behind to hit 200 but that's OK)
Really happy with my speed work. To put it in perspective I could probaby count on one hand the # of splits I had with a 9 in front last year much less 8's. This year my goal is 40% of my splits under 10 and I am approaching that with about 3.9% as of today. I seem to be able to increase the tempo enough to get better pace.

@shanaber I have never been to that general area of the country and am really looking forward to it. Everyone I know who has been there raves about how pretty it is.
@katharmonic No climbing but a lot of hiking!
3 -
@quilteryoyo @Avidkeo hope you guys are feeling better soon!
@shanaber We are heavily into the difficult/very difficult section of the dew point chart. Boooo! I agree with the chart that it is difficult/very difficult to run in this weather!7 -
@penguinmama87 Have fun on your trip. If I'm being honest, 36 kids of any age sounds like torture to me!1
-
Nice running everyone. @SummerSkier you're doing great with your pace!!! So are you @sweetdaisy13 !
@martaindale Thanks. Sorry your dew points are bad already.
I feel a little bit better tonight. Still don't have much energy. I managed another mile walk on the driveway at a 3.4 mph pace. That's a little faster than yesterday and it felt a little bit easier, so I'm calling that a win.
I was telling mom this afternoon that I had lost my exercise streak and had to start over. She's like, "What? You have to start all over at one?" Yes mom, that's what a streak means. Exercising every day. She said, "Well. I wouldn't. If I were you I would just write down on Sunday that I was sick so it didn't count. Now I'm on day 118." Wish it could work that way, but if I manage to exercise everyday except for when I'm that sick, I'll call it a win.9 -

Seriously lacking in energy/motivation. No human buddy to meet up with today so I took my furry buddy out for a short run. As usual, it's an adventure in stopping and starting with Stella but I at least get something done.
5 -
Still sick. Still no running. At least garmin will stop telling me I need to rest...
Hugs to those who need it, great running to everyone else.9 -
Urgh, both the baby and I caught something so resting today and staying hydrated! Hopefully she sleeps well so I can too! π«11
-
Dang, sounds like many of you are feeling sick these past few days. Hope you all start feeling better soon.
I wasn't feeling great when I woke up, and it was hard to get out the door, but as usual, once I was out there I started to feel better. Even did a little speed work, which I haven't done in forever. Finished with 6.4 miles.

Sunny, low 40s F, and a breeze from the northwest again today. Had little energy and even less strength today, so cut the run at 6 k. Legs were even less happy than yesterday.

@Avidkeo I hope you get to feeling better soon! Being sick stinks!
@penguinmama87 Oh no! You too? I hope you and baby feel better soon!
Nice run @Scott6255 !
Nice running @Teresa502 . It's rainy and cool here too. I'm ready for some sunny days.
@Tramboman Sounds like cutting the run short was a good idea. Hope you have more energy tomorrow.

This weeks stamina run was like last weeks in that the running segments were quite noticeably longer. With this run being 12 minutes longer than last weeks it felt like a really good workout (which it should). My overall pace was just a bit slower than last week but only because last week was a shorter down week effort which I was able to zip through.
It does seem like a lot of people are sick and I've been hearing a lot about stomach related issues. Something nasty must be going around. I hope all who are feeling sick get better soon!3 -

@quilteryoyo I like the way your mom thinks!
I had a lovely run today! Tried out a new route and loved it - through fields, forest, several small lakes, mining roads, and got cheered on by some fishermen π. I also saw a nesting swan - need to get a picture next time. There are more connected roads to explore, too. Total 8 km (plus 1k more later going to the school). I'm trying to get my 40k (no more though) this week.I later went to our usual forest with my son, who entertained me through the whole 4.5km hike with an imaginary war zone story he made up as we went along.
When I got home, a truck was unloading our 2 tons of coal. It comes nicely stacked in 25kg bags, one ton per pallet, BUT the pallets don't fit through the door to our furnace room. So I unstacked them, wheeled them into the room (daughter had a dolley and I had a wheelbarrow) and hubby re-stacked them in there. The last one felt so much heavier than the first one. Fortunately I think I lifted right and my back feels OK, as does everything else that was previously bothering me. π10 -
@quilteryoyo I love your mom's outlook on the streak, but just say you were sick.
@avidkeo feel better
@polskagirl01 that's quite a work out moving all that coal
Is anyone else having a problem with the app, it keeps telling me I can't connect to the server.5 -
hi everyone
pretty new to mfp (joined may 9) and all these message boards. just stumbled upon this one and like the idea very much and i'd love to join!
i sprained my ankle three weeks ago and therefore wasnt able to run/jog as much as i usually do.
did hit in on the treadmill yesterday again and set my goal to 150km for may. curious if i can still make it within the next 19days (i never tracked anything before).
good running/jogging/walking to all of you
8 -
Welcome @journeywithave! It's never too late to join. Just take it slow and easy as you are coming back from an ankle injury. You will find this group is very chatty, so just jump in when you feel the urge π4
-
Welcome @journeywithave! Definitely concur with @Scott6255 about making sure you come back to running safely from an ankle injury. We also double as a support group for injured runners!5
