The pandemic caused me to lose a job that I absolutely hated and had gained nearly 40lbs whilst working there through pure misery.
The day after I left I decided to make changes by honestly logging every mouthful.
I made a lot of changes but being honest to myself about my calorie intake was what reduced my weight.
Today I'm 44lbs down.

After over a year of working from home in my PJs (and snacking and sitting on my butt all day!), I can no longer fit into my work pants. As I will be going back to the office in January, I had to get serious about weight loss or be forced to buy new clothes. Yes, new clothes would be nice, but that isn't the point. I started about 10 weeks ago and have lost about 8 pounds (slow and steady). I have probably about that same amount to go to be able to comfortably fit in my pants.
That was the trigger, but as others have said, I can't do it without logging what I eat. If I don't log it, I'll just eat randomly throughout the day (1 handful of nuts becomes 2 handfuls and then it is 10, etc..).5 -
Hands down for me is to accurately log everything. Which is why this is my third tour of duty. After I reach target I stop logging at some point. Then I gradually gain 5-10 and then start again. I've accepted this is the way it works for me.2

Covid-19! Working from home along with my wife I cut out all the snacking and treats at the office as well as the commute. 239 to 153!11

My trigger was when I decided to weigh myself on the scale near the end of March and found out I gained 50 Ibs during the pandemic3

In my case my wife sent me for diabetes tests and I am just over the edge for type 2. In anticipation of that I already started a free health and fitness programme near where I live called Counterweight. We are 6 weeks in and I've lost 23 pounds so far through diet and exercise. Calorie logging has been a helpful revelation for me. A fitness watch has also been useful, plus being weighed each week at my group sessions is motivational.3

I decided to overcome what I could from my family history and have a goal to live to 80. It didn't make sense to me to see doctors and ask them to help me with that goal while I'm overweight. It's what I can control vs my genetics.5

A couple things did, I was unhappy with my weight gain for a long time but what really kicked my butt to actually put the work in was not fitting in my favourite skirts. I love my clothing and my skirts are typically bought from unique little shops, there is no going back to buy a bigger size. I was distrot and decided enough was enough... I'm getting back in those clothes again!

My trigger was while shopping for clothes at a large department store, a sales lady told me to go to the Plus size section. I always had body dysmorphia but the other way around than most people. I knew I was overweight/obese but didn't quite see it so I felt shocked and embarrassed.9

High blood pressure - my BP goes up as my weight goes up. As my weight goes up, back, knee and foot pain increase and I’m now realizing it’s been within the last couple of years, I’m a stress eater. Quarantine pushes people to either exercise more and eat healthier or stress eat. Sadly I’m a stress eater.

When I stop drinking milk, soda, or if I am stressed. I was stuck for a long time then stress happened so I started intermittent fasting and cut back on milk and soda works every time. I lost 8 more pounds.2

My trigger. Was when suffering from pains in my chest. My doctor send me to a heart surgeon he told me my main artery was blocked 45%. I am 155cm 59 year old female.That was a big shock. So started back on MFP.This was September 2020 weighing 89kgs I got to my goal weight of 70kgs in 3mths. Then I kept on going. Got to 62kgs but was a little skinny so I went to 65kgs, quite happy being there. Stayed that way until Christmas 2021. I have since gained a few kilos over that time. Now having difficulty getting motivated to get back to normal.But hopefully when I get back to work and my normal routine. I am sure I Will get back there. I am still going to the gym.5

You can do it.
I did the same path- obese to too thin to adding a few to bouncing up over the holidays. It’s off now, but I’ve learnt my lesson That will not happen again.
This has been too hard and too long a slog to put any of it back on. Never doing this again!6 -
When I stopped eating at 8 PM and only started eating min 12 hours later (not earlier).
And eating meals at the right time of the day to keep from getting too hungry/full3 -
Convincing my husband to do MFP. We weigh servings and keep each other eating healthy-sized portions. The initial motivation was my high cholesterol and his high triglycerides. Fear is a powerful motivator.7

What triggered me to want to get serious is feeling lousy; knew I’d just get heavier and heavier if I didn’t do something. I knew what to do and how to do it- it was just the actual doing. I got started and it took. I don’t know why this time took, when all other attempts didn’t- if I knew the answer- I could make a fortune! It is still a battle at times but I try to use the tools I’ve learned and knowledge about my weakness to keep the weight down. It’s been about a year now.

I went to visit friends in Europe and felt like the "Fat American" friend. Started logging the day I got back. Can't wait to return in March 40 lbs lighter and at my goal weight.
Having a return trip booked gives me a deadline to work towards and definitely helps keep me on track.16 -
I had put on some weight over the years and I suppose I had been comfortable with it. Eating all this bad food became a necessity to my happiness. I was not over weight by any means but not comfortable with my body and my clothes were tight (I was 190lb). I got myself a date with a cute girl and realized NO WAY can I go as I do not feel confident and good. Bam next day it all started. Stripped out the bad food and here I am at 155lb. So in a nutshell my 1 tip is get a date with the opposite sex when you are out of shape and get motivated into what you want to be when they meet you.6

What triggered my weight loss journey was when I stepped on the scale and underestimated my weight gain. I went form 125 to 170 Ibs. I didn't want to reach 200 so I decided on that day to exercise and eat right.8

I don’t know. I guess it was just time. A few years ago I gained 30 lbs on antidepressants and lost some of it but it was not fit. I was just sort of a normal weight. After my dog died I started gaining weight again and I didn’t want to keep gaining weight so I started excircisng regularly. It was like hell at first lol. But I was seeing results so that kept me motivated . Now this summer, I’m fixing my diet so I can feel really great about myself , because even tough I got that excercise habit I was regularly overeating but making excuses, oh it’s cause I work out (I need more food) etc. since joining fitness pal and doing regular food journaling I feel so much healthier and not constantly bloated! I was even diagnosed with hashimotos disease a few years ago so I need to watch my diet4

Illness and being severely obese has hindered my recovery. I have the opportunity of going to Japan next year and I want to make sure I am fit enough to make the most of it.5

This was my reason for initially losing the first 35-40 lb. I finally got to the last 5-10 lb. by approaching age 40 and realizing I'd been trying to lose those last few pounds for several years.2
