(((Beth))) Wonderful outcome. You’ve dealt with complicated systems and gotten your Mom into a place where she’s getting regular therapy and help with her grieving. And close to you!
In a couple weeks I’m going to travel to Virginia to visit two women I worked with for many years. We haven’t gotten together for about 5 years and it will be good to reconnect.

Will catch up with stats later, sometime. Just back from two day gals’ road trip to walk Circles In the Sand in Florence and shop our way back to Brookings. Great group of gals, fog and chill could not dampen our spirits. Walking the labyrinth in the fog was a more meditative experience than had it been sunny. No PT, way too much sugar and more coffee than I normally have in a month, but a few good choices too, in number of steps and passing on dinner Saturday night. Glad I went, glad to be home .
Read posts through pg 19 last night on my phone but took no notes. Skimming to catch up. Tomorrow is day 1 of cleaning frenzy, dust mopping ceilings, vacuuming curtains/drapes, windowsills, first round of dusting and vacuuming carpets. Might have to skip line dancing. Ugh.
Lisa my stock answer is “Happy to be here, and you?”
Heather “semiannual bath” a real tea-snorter that.
Ginny my nurse friend has been doing some reading on Fosamax/alendronate. There have been cases of “spontaneous leg fractures” in addition to the weakening of jaw bones. Seems the pharmaceutical company that developed Fosamax in the beginning, also put DexaScan machines in some doctors’ offices to build market for their product. Some lawsuits settled https://www.drugwatch.com/fosamax/lawsuits/
Others have been dismissed by the US Supreme Court https://www.drug-injury.com/druginjurycom/2022/03/fosamax-femur-fracture-federal-court-mdl-lawsuits-dismissed-second-time-march-2022.html
I will call my MD’s office next week and explain why I’m taking myself off from this rx. They might want to do one more scan for a baseline, and I may comply. I am so with you about how strange rx dosage is same regardless of body weight, Vets don’t do it that way so why do MDs?
Rebecca so sorry for your hurting heart. Wish your youngest could find it in his heart to communicate with you at least enough to set whatever boundaries he feels he needs. So hard for you to not know.
Barbie you have daffodils in October?
Beth so glad to hear from you and that your Mom is now nearby. Praying the PT helps her enough for the enhanced assisted living facility. Love her spirit, wanting to stop en route at the DQ!
Carol thankful to hear your sister’s status. Keeping her and you in prayers.
Welcome @Michieb125, Michelle in CA!
Allie so thankful Carmine has found SOMETHING to change their attitude. I’d be afraid they be broken-hearted at the cow’s ultimate end though. Some 4-Hs have the kids do dog training, would Carmine go for that?
Katla so glad you got to share Halloween Town with your grandson.
Betsy, safe travels.
Now for a couple more steps, something light and healthy and time to snooze.
Lighter, lovelies!
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD
2022: Be still and listen.
October: Move more (make that 7400 step goal), fuel better (more protein + veggies, less sugar), live NOW (continue mindful time with Joe, pay more attention to Shadow and Tumble).

Just putting in a shoutout for Kate UK, who was due to have a gallstones operation soon and was hoping to get to Spain for a holiday, if her husband's health permitted. I hope your plans are working out and you are OK.
Quiet day today. Just a Zoom at 4.15. My friend G has moved it back from 4 because she has an online therapy session earlier in the afternoon. Still works out OK for me. I like to join DH at 5.15 or before, for an aperitif (alcohol or AF) and to watch Pointless together. It's the start of our 'together' time and our evening wind down.
I'm going to do the tax return this pm. I have all the info, I think. I don't actually pay any tax, because I don't earn nearly enough, but I keep doing it because I am still waiting for my big breakthrough! One day I will hit the best seller list.
This morning I will scribble something for my new book.

LisaInArkansas wrote: »I don't ask questions much, but I'm really interested in the answer to this one. For a little bit of background, I'm from the South, and I was raised that you greet folks politely whether you know them or not, especially if they greet you first. One of the things I realized the other day is that I have a (possibly annoying) habit of answering when people ask me how I am or how I'm doing with a joke. For instance, the gal at the drive-thru window asked me how I was on Thursday, and I said, "Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!" She didn't know whether to smile or not, so I followed that with, "But then, most people are..." and she handed me my bag and I motored on.
I'm honestly aware that when they say "How are you doing?" they think I will say, "Fine, how are you?" as that's the cultural expectation. I like violating cultural expectations (in a kind and/or funny way) and I do it regularly. In places of business where there's more time, I tend to say, "Well, if I was any better, I'd be twins!" and my personal favorite, "If I was any better, I'd have to sit on my hands to keep from waving at people!" Followed of course, by "How about you?"
So, the question is... How do you respond to people (whether strangers or not) who say, "How are you doing?" Or do people even greet each other that way in your culture/region/area?
Just curious.
Later,
Love,
Lisa
People around here and people where I am from greet each other and ask how things are fairly regularly. I would have laughed at your response. It reminds me of a lot of funny ones I’ve heard over the years.

Lisa-My stock answer to "How are you?" is "If I were any better I would be illegal." But you must deliver with straight face.
Rebecca-There seems to be no explaining how kids react once they leave th house. I think we can use wait and let them know they are loved and they come back in their own way and time.
Katla-so good that your DH keeps improving. It is also nice you can get a change of scenery and go to DD home yet stay a bit separate in your RV.
Barbara AHMOD-I see the endocrinologist who is monitoring my calcium levels in January. That will give me a year and a half being on Fosomax. If the next Dexa scan shows no deterioration I will talk about going off it. I am trying to be reasonable about it-but is is my body. If I didn't have the compounding factor of the thyroid suppression leaching calcium out of system I may not have tried it at all.
Beth-congratulations on getting mom moved closer. That will take stress off of both of you.
Still laying about in recuperation stage. I ordered one of those donut pillows to see if that takes pressure off the spot in my butt that is so painful. Laying down feels best but that also gets tiresome. I do miss my steps. May go outside and walk to corner and back (about 3 minutes normal). Just want to get out a bit with some movement and fresh air. Puttering around getting basics done around house. Need to ask someone to come put out trash on Tuesday evening and get cans back up to house next day. Will catch one of neighbors.
Youngest son and wife did let me know they are trying for a baby. They have cut out drinking, etc. right now. We shall see how it goes. She is 36 and this will be her first.
Going to fix a bit of breakfast and pay bills-big plans for day!
Take

Barbara, that was an old photo of my yard that I posted just to show how much fence I had to wash.
Katla, Taking it one day at a time is a good way to deal with your husband's recovery
Ginny Best wishes on your continued improvement
Today is Jake's birthday. We don't do cards or gifts or restaurant meals. He chose something he wanted and bought it for himself. He got cards from his daughter and his brother.

Good morning ladies!
Barbara - interesting info about the bone loss and Fosamax. So sorry to hear about your tooth problems. And that reminds me, I haven't heard yet if my doc got the Dexa scan scheduled. I'll bug her this week.
Ginny - glad your surgery is done and over, and crossing fingers the problem is taken care of. Having to slow down for recovery is just plain hard.
Betsy - have a great time visiting your friends in Virginia.
Elliptical - My elliptical was delivered yesterday. It took maybe 15 minutes to get it set up, great instructions. I like it! It's too heavy for me to lift and carry but super easy to slide where I want it. Like the Bob & Brad video, I put one end up on a 2 x 4 which puts it at a good angle for me for sitting exercise.
Shake the Sugar - I'm ashamed to say I have not totally shaken the sugar, and really can tell that it triggers inflammation. But I like how Dr. Matt goes into some of the "why" of eliminating sugar (still being OK with honey, maple syrup), why having a high protein breakfast (doesn't HAVE to be 30 gm, just better than donuts!) gets us set up for a good day metabolically. Why 3 fruits per day is good for us.
This week, why we should drink water - 1/3 of our body weight in ounces. For me, 55 oz. I haven't been doing that. I remember when WW pushed 8 glasses of water, then they changed their minds to state "8 glasses (64 oz I guess) of any liquid - coffee, tea, etc." Which contain caffeine and are diuretics = um, no!
Are some of you in the northern hemisphere seeing an early frost? We folks in the Pacific Northwest are having delay in the frost department, tho leaves are starting to fall - some of this might be drought stress. It's been 80 in the afternoons here and the "low" sun seems extra hot when a person spends time in it. Supposed to be cooler this week so I can resume outside jobs.
That's the quick version. Make it a fabulous day!

What do you eat with sugar?
The 3 fruits a day will have quite a bit of sugar, but the vitamins and fibre are good.

Barbie ~ Happy Birthday to Jake!
Tracey ~ Happy belated Thanksgiving.
Michelle ~ Sorry you had to put the pool to bed. My son's neighborhood pool closed two weeks ago.
Allie ~ Carmine has a pretty face. Glad he likes the animals. Good therapy.
Lanette ~ I love my wine and guess it replaces the sugar that others crave.
Celebrated son's 47th birthday yesterday.

Dang it Lanette - I hate to poke this particular bubble, but it really is something I've heard for decades and it's a myth. Everyone needs to deal with coffee or tea and/or lack of same in their own way. However, if coffee and tea weren't recognized by my body as liquid due to their recognized diuretic action, I would be long dead. For 15 years straight, they were the only kind of liquid my newly surgerized gut could handle (the gastric bypass was Sept. 2005).
Straight water, which I actually loved drinking pre-surgery, hit my stomach like a fist to the gut. I could and did drink water in a pinch, but it was painful at best and at worst would double me over. For whatever reason, adulterated water is less painful. Someone once told me it had to do with the specific gravity of water, but I could never find research to back that up. I can tell you I've read a ton of research that says your body adjusts to your caffeine intake to the point that coffee and/or tea have only the diuretic action that any liquid has.
All that said, the only reason I am bringing it up is that there is such a thing as too much liquid intake, which they're finally beginning to realize, especially for runners like Pip and Heather's son and daughter-in-law. It's called hyponatremia. Doesn't affect most of us, in all honesty, but ignoring coffee/tea as liquids isn't actually necessary. More and more research also says that you should drink liquids when you're thirsty, and skip the pressure to imbibe a specific amount. Very respected sources are very clear about it.
ETA: The reason that my inability to drink straight water for 15 of the last 17 years instead of all of them is because one of the weirder silver linings of my recent medical issues has been that I can finally drink water again without pain. I am so stinking grateful for that! My daughter made me start sipping water when she was here nursing me through the worst of it a couple years back... I couldn't drink coffee or tea either, and she was afraid I was going to die, so nagged me into drinking water one sip at a time. Worked, too.
Down off my little soapbox...
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR6 -
I agree with Lisa. I drink mainly British tea, with milk, coffee once in the morning, with milk, and fizzy water with flavour, no sugar at lunchtime, if I'm thirsty in between I drink water from the tap. My tea consumption is five mugs a day. With my evening meal I drink AF drinks, or alcohol. I'm pretty sure I'm not dehydrated! I am trying to cut down on alcohol though. None yesterday and none this evening, ( I intend).
I did my tax return and it is posted off!!! Brilliant! What a relief.
Before that I did some poetry organising on my laptop, creating a new folder etc. Moving stuff between phone, tablet and laptop. All good. I decided in the end to take writing time in order to do the tax, as it was preying on my mind so much. Good decision.
My petrol blue long sleeved t shirt arrived and fits perfectly. I think I need an accent colour to shuzz it up a bit. Pink is my first choice. ????
Done my afternoon rowing. Now my mug of tea and a short nap before the Zoom.

Machka - Shake the Sugar talks about eliminating added sugars, not sugar in fruits and veggies. Sugar added to processed foods, candy, cakes, ice cream = my favorites. I don't eat them if they aren't in the house. I'm not sure how they get put into my shopping cart from time to time, but I wish they would stop, lol.
Lisa - I think WW finally made their peace with "drink to thirst". I generally don't get thirsty unless I've eaten something salty like pizza. And I probably get 8 cups of water in with coffee and tea alone. I just watched Dr. Matt's presentation on it this morning, and he said something interesting. Do we want to be raisins or grapes, meaning do we want to add more liquid to our diets to help our systems run smoother. I've heard folks who drink a lot of water have good complexions. Mine could use some help in the wrinkle department.
He mentioned drinking a glass of water when a person first gets up. I too can't take water very well on an "empty stomach." I suppose if I was constipated I'd look at that as a possible solution. Isn't that why God made coffee though?
I agree a person can drink too much water and deplete electrolytes and put a burden on their systems. Some folks haul big jugs of water around all day and chug a lug because they are convinced they need to meet some specific goal that might not be best for them.
My goal isn't to chug down an additional 8 glasses of water (my well water tastes great) just like there was no way I could eat 30 gm of protein for breakfast.
But I'll be curious to see if there's any benefit to me even drinking, let's say, 3 or 4 cups of just plain tap water throughout the day in addition to tea and coffee. Maybe cut coffee back a little, I tend to go overboard. I just have to remind myself to do it.
I rarely have darker yellow pee unless I've taken B vitamins, otherwise it appears I'm getting enough.
And regarding eating sugar after supper .... I have noticed when I eat something sugary before bed, like a dish of ice cream, or some cookies, I usually don't have to get up and pee a few times during the night!
If I eat something like cheese and nuts or a food without a lot of added sugar, then it's a night time marathon even though I restrict liquids a couple hours before bed! Maddening.
Head scratcher - does any have clues as to why this might be happening? Maybe that's why I steer back into sugar territory after supper after doing really well during the day.

Good morning ladies!
Hmm. I've never had a bone density scan, might be time for that. But if the only result would be to take a med that makes things worse, then perhaps not. Nothing is ever simple anymore.
I usually respond with a direct smile and "fine. How are you?" I have enough anxiety about social encounters without deviating from the script.
This weekend I am going to the Kennedy Center in DC for dinner and a show called Shear Madness. Yay! Then staying overnight with my friend who had the stroke. He seems to be really excited about me coming, otherwise I might use a hotel. I'm not sure how his wife feels I am starting to get my pre-event jitters.
Meanwhile nothing special today. I am reading a Louise Penny book to study how to make the forest setting play a bigger part in my novel. And I have a few phone calls to make, to set up appointments.
Have a great day!

One step backwards in my gut journey.😢. My solid food too soon. So a day of broth in the afternoon, maybe a protein drink. Stepped up my water, as I had slacked off this past weekend. Not happy.

Been back down to where I was when starting therapy. Not sure what is going on. Health good, allergies under control, no tooth pain , no jaw pain . Guess I’m missing my kids. I talk to them regularly but it’s just not the same as being close and seeing them.
Plus, weather here has been overcast for the last 2 weeks. Very very unusual for the New Mexico desert!
Finances playing a big part too.
I am reading and thinking of each and every one of you every day. Glad for this bit of connection, helps a lot!
Love,

So sorry, Rebecca.
Zoom went well, but it completely threw off my no alcohol vow. My difficult friend always triggers me (reminds me of my mum) and I need relief!
All good. DH and I had a good discussion about triggers , which was very enlightening. I hadn't realised I triggered him the other day and I think his DS needs to hear why he couldn't go to the funeral of his aunt. We are such complicated creatures. I love his growing awareness of what sets him off and his desire to rise above it. We both are able to make allowances for our respective wounds. Apart from his adoption and difficult childhood with a mentally ill mother and a distant father, the trauma of his beloved partner's death from cancer is still with him. So grateful that he can talk about it to me. He is very respectful of my childhood wounds and need to be in control, but he sometimes forgets about my stillbirth trauma.

Rebecca - give yourself grace, too, for the ongoing stress of your youngest son's lack of communication. Your gut is feeling that. I know what I would do if it were me (or at least what I think I would do) but my advice is not worth a plugged nickel because I didn't raise a child - I got mine at 15 and 17, which is a whole different dynamic. I would simply stop trying to communicate at all. Not to be mean, but to preserve my own sanity. Again - NOT advice, I admire and respect your strength in continuing to try to mother him. What does Lee say about all this?
Happy Thanksgiving to our beautiful Canadians, I hope you were able to have the day off...
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa3
